We went here for the first time last night and it was just...meh...burger and Cuban were decent. Mexican street corn was definitely just creamed corn from a van with a few other things. The fries were really good though! Service was ok...the music was blasting and didn't fit the restaurant atmosphere, but I'm thinking it was that way since they had a pool tourney going on. Wonder if there's a way to have the music just blasting back there? It didn't bother us any, but there were elderly and families with young kids dining in and the music definitely wasn't appropriate for them. The Mad Apple recently hosted our sporting competition and we couldn't have been more pleased. The staff was friendly and efficient. They took care of the small details too....while being incredibly busy. I had breakfast 2 mornings, and both were excellent. I heard from many in the group that the wings are the absolute best they have ever had.....and when I saw others get their plates of food...everything looked wonderful. There is a quesadilla item that I saw lots of people order....it looked great! Got to try the sweet potato planks which are really unique, and and pizza too...loaded with great ingredients and tasty sauce. Was very dissatisfied with this place. First time my friend and I were here. I ordered the patty melt.. didn't say on the menu it was on caraway rye. I can't eat caraway so waitress offered a different bun. Bun was cold, by the time I got it my burger was cold as well. My friends sandwich was cold as well. You would think being a first timer the food would be top notch. Waitress was good until she saw it was time for her to go home. Never had any service after that!' Attended a leadership meeting here and was very pleasantly surprised by the flavour and care that was taken in preparation of the food and drink! The servers were spot on with remembering drinks and getting refills when needed. The food, served buffet style for the meeting's purposes but cooked to-order as a normal restaurant does for personal/family purposes, had great flavor and you could tell everything was hand made. In addition to the great food and service, the billiards room was very impressive, boasting high quality pool tables for Billiard enthusiasts and recreationalists alike. Come here often as it's close to work. Food is solid and better than the average bar food. Cool pool room. Lots of tv's with sports around the restaurant. Bartenders are great and very creative with their drink creations. Looks like they are finishing up a really nice patio in the back of the bar with horseshoe pits. It will be great when it's completed. The lead bar tender Tracy is fantastic as is the new girl Nova. Definitely recommend if you want to grab some good food and a cold beer. read more

Just left there. I ordered a Ruben sandwich. And it tasted like I was eating a salt shaker. It was so salty. The bartender didn't even care.

We don't live in town. This was a random stop-in. We ordered chips and salsa to start. I had the Cuban and my husband had the turkey club. All of it was so good. The hand cut fries were fresh and salty and soo good. I had sweet potato planks as my side which were unique and also so good. I ordered different home-made dipping sauces on the side and the zesty ranch and honey mustard tied as they were both really good. The prices here can't be beat and the service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend, next time we are going to try a burger but we just weren't in the mood for one today! Also don't forget to tip high! These are weird times people. read more

Either way, I would return.... The wife and I went to The Mad Apple Burger & Billiards Co. last night after sharing a salad and some drinks at SAP. Variety is the spice of life and we wanted to spice it up with something new. We heard a lot of good things about the food and wanted to play some pool, too. Slightly past the door, we were greeted and given a nice little spiel about the place by someone who was probably the owner (I spied him later in a closed-off "under construction" area -- more on this later). The guy emphasized the freshness of the food and their proud partnership with Jacobs Meat Market. Now, full disclosure here: The wife and I are vegan. But I think locally sourcing your meat is something worth bragging about. We promptly ordered some drinks and were already digging the vibe. Immediately, I liked the new paint job. The last time I was in the building, it was the Old Bavarian and I also recall, with some fondness, The Green Mill's pizza. The Mad Apple folks put a fresh look on it, with some comforting grey-blue hues and hints of eye-popping red to remind you this place is about an insane fruit. The menu was fun, too, with plays on the crazy theme. As I said earlier, I'm a pesky vegan. In an earlier e-mail, I was told they'd have a "vegan" burger so I was pretty excited about this place (and I love pool). Last night, however, we saw that the menu listed their veggie burger (Meatless Mayhem!) as simply "vegetarian." There's a difference, but I didn't ask about it last night, so it's my fault if there was egg or cheese in it. I just crossed my fingers, rolled the dice and ordered it. Although, I could've customized a salad into a wrap instead, and they did have a nice sounding portabella sandwich that could've been vegan without the cheese. We're always saying that more restaurants should have a veggie wrap option, as it is an easy way to appeal to another consumer. So the options are nice! The burger was quite good, though! The wife was a little less impressed. My first impression was the sweetness. Sweet potato flavor was prominent and the crushed spud made the patty slightly gooey on the inside. There was a nice beany flavor, too and a sort of seared crust around it all. All in all, it created a pretty unique flavor and I would get it again (just have to double check the veganosity of it all). As far as sides, my wife got the sweet potato fries and I got their regular fries, which were made with baby reds. They both were perhaps a little greasy but not drippy. They tasted good, but it was their size and cuts that made them stand out and added to the experience (see previous picture). The sweet potato fries were cut into slices, not fries. And the baby red fries were...well...babies. They lacked in seasoning, but a little pepper on top solved that. What set this place apart, though, was the pool hall. Adding a couple games of pool to the evening regimen definitely changes up the typical night out. They've got coin operated machines ($1.25 per game) and hourly tables that we didn't inquire about. When we went into the pool area, it was fairly filled up for a Thursday night. There was plenty of room for each group and the chatter was full of inviting camaraderie. We took a table in the back and made ourselves at home. The wall behind us, however, was temporary, and they were working on renovations behind it. I peeked through a hole the size of an electrical outlet and was surprised to see that there was still a lot of room for expansion. That's the part that worries me. At full operating capacity, I can see this place filling up on weekends. I just hope they aren't making it too sprawling and putting too much money into something that may come off as too empty on weeknights. I hope my fears are unwarranted, though, because the experience was a fun one. They had good beers on tap, too (I had the Polka King Porter and Rocky's Revenge). I would recommend people check it out and give it a chance. read more

We hit this place up Sunday night after Jazz Fest. Stepping in and the bar / dinning area was quite open and spacious. Atmosphere was real chill and music not too loud. I asked the waitress for the best selling burger. On her recommendation I ordered the Nut Job. It was quite the collection of ingredients including peanut butter, sweet thai sauce, fried onion strings, and pepper jack on a pretzel bun. I ordered the garlic parmesan chips. There are choices of meat from bison, elk, and venison as alternatives to beef. I went with the bison. I really enjoyed the combination on the bison burger. It was cooked medium as requested. The chips were well seasoned and a little lighter. Overall, a very pleasing combo for around $16. The server was on point and kept our drinks filled. Our group stuck around for the billiard area. Sunday night it was $8/hr. I thought the tables were fine. A nice laid back crowd with multiple families playing billiards. I will definitely consider this in future stops in the Appleton area. It is billed as made from scratch and local supply. Oh yeah, the billiard tables were well spaced. Plenty of space to shoot. Two larger tables available. Foosball and darts. Giving this place one star is being too generous. My friends and I came to play pool and grab dinner. The server took a long time to take our order. I ordered mozzarella sticks and soup. My friend ordered a turkey wrap and soup. The server came back and said we don't have mozzarella sticks so I said I would take cheese curds instead. He came back a while later and said they don't have tortillas for my friends wrap and no cheese curds. We both agreed to just take the soup. We wait for over 25 minutes for soup. I flagged the server down and said to cancel my soup and to just bring one soup. He never came back to us with my friends soup. We just asked for the bill for our beer and sprite. My Yelp history contains mostly positive reviews because bad feedback should respectfully to go back to the business directly. When they won't listen and instead provide an argumentative litany of excuses then any new potential customers deserve a warning! My favorite part of the conversation with the owner was "If it wasn't so expensive to get good help, then she would have been fired long ago." The service was as bad as I have ever seen and I can't comment on the food because nobody took our order. The two bartenders were fantastic but the wait staff was terrible. This review may be a little pre-mature, but I really wanted to share about this cool new spot in Appleton. A friend assembled a group of us to check it out. I've heard this location has been several different things and I hope Mad Apple is here to stay. We came on a Tuesday evening and there was one bartender and one server...most people were around the bar. Our server was unfortunately a little slow and must be new to working restaurant, which was totally okay as my group was pretty easy going and not in a rush. The frustrating part is we had to ask our server for things. We asked for a beer menu and she took one from another table, and there was six of us. When she gave us the menu she said she was going to check on another table and come back. The was repeated a couple of times when asking to order food, and to get our bill. I didn't get any food, as I sticking to my liquid diet and doing a couple of 16oz pint curls. Looking at the menu was pretty tempting. You can get beef, elk, bison, and venison for your burger meat. Our server did tell us they get their meat fresh every day from Jacobs Meat Market, and they get a lot of other items (veggies and bread) as fresh as possible from other local businesses....two thumbs up to that! One other neat aspect was their pool hall, six tables along with seating on the side of the wall. There was some sort of tournament going on when we were there. If you're a pool shark, check it out. Delicious food with a great atmosphere! They have pool tables, football, darts, ping pong, cribbage, poker, etc. big screen tv's everywhere, but definitely a family friendly atmosphere. The service was fantastic! I had a burger with Mac and cheese on it, with a side of brussel sprouts, and the sprouts rocked my world. So. Good. Tried the Mad Apple yesterday for lunch and the Badger game. I had read some reviews in here saying food was good but service was rough. I can assure you both were excellent. The food is all very fresh and locally sourced. They offer a great burger selection that allows you to choose beef, venison or elk. They also have excellent appetizer choices. We had bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers for an app. I had the Rajun Cajun Burger and my wife had the mad Apple burger. We both had roasted Brussel sprouts for sides. Everything was excellent. We are eating low carb and they had plenty of selections for that way of eating. Also, the service was fast, super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Pricing was normal for Valley bar/restaurant places. It is a bit of a destination on West College but we will be going back. It is the newest restaurant in the hotel. read more

I'm typing this in real time since this experience has started out so poorly. Wait staff and bar tenders don't seem to care at all about customer experience or wait times. The bartender, waitress and host we have interacted with have all been very uninterested in providing good service. I sit here and look at a fairly large menu, all of the items have cheesy cliche names requiring you to read the entire description on every dish to determine what they actually are. Finally got our drinks and had to basically hold the waitress hostage to take our order. Once we got our order in we got our food fairly quickly. While most at the table seemed to enjoy their bread items and burgers, most seemed pretty mediocre and unimpressive. We got a large bottle of Tabasco per our request but am order of Brussel sprouts was ruined as it did not have a top on it (picture included). I went there for lunch! Never again. This is the second time I went there. The first time was awful, and the second time was worse. The first time at least I got my food. The bun the first time for my burger was an old crumbly dry hamburger bun..the rest was a mess. The second time I waited and waited 50 for my burger. I ask the bartender where's my food. Note I only have so much time for my lunch break. She said I'll go check. She comes back and says 4 more minutes. Okay I said reluctantly. She goes back 5 minutes later to check and comes back and said, well would you like a coupon for a free meal, it's going to be a bit longer? I said no I need to eat I'm a diabetic. She really say much. I waited another 15 minutes no food. I told her I have to leave. She says do you want me to deliver it? I'm upset...just left. 2 times I've been there. Where do we start... I do believe we've found the worst place to eat in Appleton. If you like cold food, really poor service by an unapologetic staff, and waiting forever for just about everything this is the place for you. Aside from the fact my burger fell apart and I couldn't eat it, it was cold and chewy. Neither of my children finished theirs for much the same reason. I actually had to go to the bar on multiple occasions to get my daughter water. I will add they were not busy at all, and probably know why. We will absolutely not be back. read more

We really enjoyed our visit to the Mad Apple. Nikki was our bartender and she very friendly. You don't usually have bartenders introduce themselves and ask your name. I found that to be very unique and pleasant. I tried the quesadilla burger and my friend tried the nut burger. Both were delicious! I'm giving this a 1 star, which is extremely harsh but it is because this used to be a 5 star and my only choice to burgers when eating out. The last 2 times I went their my burger wasn't good plain and simple. As an example in my last experience I had the slop burger. That burger where they didn't let it sit for the juices to recenter or toast the bun so the juices didn't ruin everything. Instead I had a burger that I had to eat with a fork because I couldn't hold the bun that disintegrated and the flavor wasn't there. This was their second chance for redemption and they failed. I spoke with co-workers and their recent experiences were as bad as mine. My wife enjoyed the mushroom sandwich in the past, but again the last 2 visits weren't good. Most recently it seemed liked they opened a jar of canned mushrooms and put it on a bun. I used to recommend this place to everyone and now I recommend that everyone stays away.
