We have been using Mad Hatter chimney service for a number of years. We annually have them service our chimney. They always do an excellent job. On-time, thorough and we know our gas logs/chimney is operating safely and efficiently. This year we had them clean our dryer duct. We had before and after pictures. I noticed an anomaly with the after picture of the pipe that goes from the inside duct line to the wall as an exhaust. I contacted Mad Hatter about my concerns. They understood and offered to have a team at my home to take care of my concern. Pepe (a 25 year employee at Mad Hatter) and his colleague came out to my home. They looked at the issue of my concern, addressed it with a replacement part and did a great job. Since the after picture showed the anomaly, they apologized for the inconvenience and provided the appropriate level of repair. This level of responsiveness and addressing my concern in the manner it was performed, shows a level of customer service satisfaction in service. We will continue to use Mad Hatter on an annual basis and our one daughter that is local also uses their service annually. You don't often see the level of service provided and my wife and I appreciate and want to recognize it. We highly recommend them for chimney and dryer duct services. The men that serviced my ventless gas fireplace today were top shelf! They were punctual, clean, knowledgeable, educators, patient and friendly! They went the extra mile to ensure my wall switch worked to turn on my fireplace! That was a plus for me! They did a thorough job cleaning and replacing my logs so the fireplace burns properly. They cost a bit more than other estimates and services I received, but when they were finished i felt more educated about my fireplace, and less afraid of using it. We called for a technician to come and clean our chimney. They sent a salesman who claimed to also be a technician. He said our chimney could never be cleaned and would burn the house down if we lit the fireplace then tried to sell us a very expensive chimney liner. After not using my fireplace for about 20 years, I finally got around to having my fireplace inspected and thoroughly cleaning out the fireplace, the flue and a general inspection of the fireplace for safety reasons. They came out on time and within an hour, cleaned out the entire fireplace and flue and gave me some ideas about options I would have for replacing the mantle with something a little more custom. We contacted Mad Hatter to look at our gas fireplace that was not functioning. We had another fireplace company look at it prior to Mad Hatter and were not happy with their assessment of replacing the unit. Mad Hatter was on time, completed a comprehensive assessment and able to get the unit fuctioning again. Matt was knowledgable, through in explaining the issues and the clean-up after the unit was again functioning all at a cost that was very reasonable. I SO badly wanted to like Mad Hatter and do feel that, ultimately, they did DO the work so I am giving two stars (I would have given 1 star there for a few weeks). We went to their showroom over summer 2021 to pick out some upgrades to our double-sided fireplace. The earliest they could come install was mid-October and fine - we would not be using it before then anyway. Mid-October rolls around and they pushed back the install date a week; fine. The late-October date arrives and a super-nice crew came out to install the fire glass and new doors. The fire glass was fine but the manufacturer had sent the wrong pieces for the doors to be properly installed. Mad Hatter corporate said they would jump on it and eventually did, though there was a significant amount of us checking in to see what the latest was. The pieces finally came in around Thanksgiving and we rushed home from NC to meet the install team the day after Thanksgiving for installation of the glass doors. One set went in but the second set could not be installed because the manufacturer AGAIN sent the wrong piece for the second set of glass doors. At this point, even the service team said we were being exceptionally understanding given how ridiculous this had become. We understand that the manufacturer seems to be the source of the problem but not once did the Mad Hatter people take responsibility for THEIR manufacturer, nor did they try to make it right with any sort of, "We are so sorry for this and here is a complimentary whatever given how poorly this has gone." They did, however, repeatedly blame their manufacturer and, unprompted, indicated we could take our business elsewhere (we never discussed that; we simply wanted them to take ANY responsibility for the repeated delays instead of blaming the manufacturer they chose). We finally got the second door installed the other day (January 2022) and it does look great. The teams they sent out were great but the corporate team at Mad Hatter have a lot to learn about how to take responsibility for repeated screw-ups on their end. read more

My fireplace had NEVER been serviced by the previous owner (s). After the logs collapsed, and I could no longer see the pilot light, I didn't know what to think, since I didn't smell gas. That prompted me to call Mad Hatter. I'm so glad I did! The technician cleaned the logs and the fireplace, got the pilot re-lit, put the logs back together, cleaned the glass door. I am 150% satisfied with the work done by The Mad Hatter to restore my fireplace & chimney to working condition. The initial estimate and restoration work were done by Juan Carlos and his team (Juan Carlos Jr, Oscar and Tino). The estimate accurately reflected the time and effort needed to fix the numerous problems due to almost 50 years of use, neglect and sub-standard original construction that did not meet the fire code. From day one, the crew was extremely careful not to create a mess in my house by wearing plastic booties, laying carpet runners & blankets, covering all the furniture with plastic and erecting a temporary plastic enclosure around the fireplace to contain the dust & debris. An exhaust fan ducted out a window minimized any dust getting into the house. They removed all the damaged fire bricks in the fire box, the rusted-out damper, and the deteriorated terra cotta flue. Then, they replaced the fire brick in the firebox, parged the smoke box, and installed a new stainless-steel flue. On the exterior, they removed & replaced all the missing/deteriorated brick & mortar on the chimney chase, raised the height of the chimney chase to meet the fire code 10-2 requirement, fixed the old flashing, installed a top damper and custom-built hip cap. The entire chimney chase was sprayed with a sealant. What warrants the extra 50% was all the extra things done over and above the contracted work to ensure I was completely satisfied like providing daily status updates with photos, installing a new gas log starter and fire grate, adding hardy plank between the studs in the attic adjacent to the chimney chase to replace gypsum siding deteriorated by water leaking around the old chimney flashing, adding metal caps to the shoulders of the chimney chase to repel water, thoroughly raking and sweeping the yard of brick debris, adding new mulch to the flower bed at the base of the chimney, and even screwing a piece of metal over a hole that a squirrel had chewed into my attic at the corner of the eave that I could not reach with my extension ladder. Thank you for a superb job done by an extremely professional and courteous crew. We could smell a chemical odor when our fireplace was running. Matthew arrived an hour early to troubleshoot our issue. He tested air quality in two separate ways and found the source of the odor which was out gassing from paint the external fireplace exhaust recirculating back into our system. Turns out our glass on the gas fireplace was not seated correctly allowing the recirculated air into our house. Matthew cleaned the glass and re-seated it properly. Then tested air quality again to make sure that we were safe. The level of professionalism, and the quality of work this company provides is incredible. I purchased a RealFyre Charred Oak log set and installation from The Mad Hatter. I was a little bit uneasy before the installers came, as we had a pushy competitor try to upsell us about 1 1/2 years ago. The sales person was very personable and reassuring. The installers did a fantastic job with the inspection and installation of the log set. They sealed a couple of areas that were not well sealed, at no extra cost. I couldn't be happier with the look and performance of this log set. I had thoughts of installing myself to save some money. However, the install that The Mad Hatter folks did was well worth the cost. So glad I chose to purchase the log set from The Mad Hatter. read more

We have used Mad Hatter for both service and all our outdoor BBQ needs. The staff is super knowledge and easy to work with. This weekend we were out of our favorite season (Sure Shot Sidd's- go ahead and get some). Was cooking for Mothers Day realized I was out so I headed up and they were out of our seasoning. The staff went and found an extra they had as a sampler, gave it to us (saving Mother's Day dinner). We have had them service our home for our fire places as well. Super punctual and great service. Earlier this year we decided to get our fireplace inspected since we had been landlords for a set of chimney swifts for a long time. I had then out for an inspection since we had not used our gas fireplace in many years. We thought we were going to get a good report with a recommendation for a good cleaning. We were shockd to hear that the builders of our 1979 home had lined the chimney's inside with regular cement instead of firebrick (a common practice back then). Could cause a fire. The real shocker was the result when the tech turned on the gas starter - the entire floor of the fireplace burst into flames. The written report advised us that the fireplace was unsafe & use as it was could cause our house to burn down. They recommended an insert, rebuilding the top 1/2 of the chimney which had bricks falling from it & a new chimney cap to keep our long-time tenants (chimney swifts) from returning since any injury to them is prohibited (swifts now on th endangered list). Mad Hatter split the payments for their "surgical repairs", scheduled us for last month & called us 2 weeks before to remind us. They were prompt, professional cleaned up the outside & inside after they finished. As a side note, they jammed our storm door when trying to get the insert inside & replaced the door at their expense. These folks have been in business for years - I used them over 40 yrs ago when I resided in Buckhead (received a good report then). They offer discounts. We also had out dryer vent vacuumed out. Very thorough job (they even took the dryer out of the wall) & we feel we are now ready for cold weather. At the end, the chimney rebuild & new black iron cap added an upgrade to the outside of our home. Not cheap, but preferable to losing everything to a fire. Easy to give them 5 stars. Communication is nil with these people. Wanted to get an updated quote, charge is $380 to do that bc they have to do a full clean and inspect. Ok, paid for that. They couldn't do a roof inspection due to rain, someone would call to set up a new time. Two weeks later nothing, so I call them. They were going to send someone out with no consult as to day, they give me a day once, that gets changed due to weather again (not before sending someone else's inspection results), they give me another date then show on a different day. They finally sent pics that I *think* are mine, but no one discusses findings or explains anything and they STILL have another customer's info listed (so no idea). $400 waste (cause after this they're not touching my house). read more

Mad Hatter rebuilt our fireplace 5 yrs. ago and put in a wood burning stove. We have only had the fireplace cleaned one other time. We have burned some pine, so I was concerned about the fireplace before we start using it this winter. The two guys were prompt, wore booties over their on shoes, cleaned up behind themselves and wore masks the whole time they were working in the house.
