Wow. Didn't expect a lot since it was 1 of 2 places in town and the other was more highly recommended (but pricier). I was just impressed all around. Fresh shrimp. Fresh grouper. Tonight we enjoyed a great meal here. We ordered a pan fried grouper and grilled sea scallops. Both were prepared just right & we were served hearty portions of each. We shared an appetizer of clams on the half shell that were fresh an sweet. I'm fussy about my cocktails and my Tangeray martini was well chilled. The service was very efficient and cordial. Have been here three times. This time brought my grown children. We sat at the tables in bar area since there was no wait to sit in that area. We had a server that was our bartender the past times we had visited. I ordered a martini and soda water on the side. Our server seemed perturbed the entire she waited on us. We sat and ordered an appetizer. My son asked if one of the oyster selections was farm raised since it was the only one on the menu that didn't specify She was very flip and said that if it didn't say it on the special list she guessed it wasn't farm raised. She immediately wanted a dinner order. We weren't ready to order which really upset her. We ordered after an appetizer and our son asked for more water which she forgot to bring. After being rushed for our order and finishing our bill came. We noticed a charge for a drink for $2.50 on the bill. When asked what that was for she replied the bar soda water. Not a San Pellegrino but a bar tap soda water. I replied that I had been there four days ago and she gave us the same water at no charge. She replied that that was the way that it goes. I was shocked. I will be sure to spread the word about this "hot and new" restaurant. What a complete disappointment after a few nice visits. I have never been charged for soda water unless ordering a bottled brand. What a joke! read more

I expect a lot and this was not close. Vegetables were previously frozen. Grouper had no flavor and was over cooked and very dry. Very nice people and tried hard. The food just did not make the grade. I would have not served my dinner or my wife's to guests. As I said I have high standards. The plus was the Salad was good and the bisque and chowder were ok but very heavy. The crab bisque you could not find the crab, but the flavor was nice. read more

Really so confused why this place got such high ranks. It's fine if you're in the area but really not that great. Outside seating area was very basic without any view or atmosphere. We decided to try Magic Oysters Happy Hour (3-6 PM). We arrived shortly before 4 and snagged the last two seats at the bar. Bruno was a great bartender. Efficient, friendly and very jovial. he greeted us warmly. The HH deal $3 well drinks, $2.50 domestic and house wine and special drinks (rumrunner $1 off.) The food deals even better Calamari, Magic Fish cakes, Seared Tuna ( $2 to 3 $ cheaper than the dinner appetizers) and best, Buck a Shuck oysters, Chef's choice. We ordered 2 dozen oysters and they were fabulous. Smallish, tasty and served with cocktail sauce, horseradish and a vinaigrette, yummy. Later, we had a small dinner in the restaurant area. He had the grouper dinner, and I had the grouper ruben. The fish was The place was slammed, but the service was excellent. We were close by in a vacation condo and we're making plans to visit again before we leave. read more

Had a nice evening overall. The service was attentive and drinks were great. Had the calamari for an appetizer. The portion was very modest and the tentacles were a bit seared. The crab bisque was tasty as was the grouper. I believe you need to give a new restaurant a few chances to win you over which we will. Ate there Thursday with friends from the UK. The location has a reputation of restaurants with terrible food. 4 or 5 in the past 10 years. This one will not be far behind. Service was very good. Food on the other hand was poor. Oysters were great but the food was awful. I wish I could give this a more favorable rating. With Shuckers, Millers Ale House, Pawnbroker, Ranado's, Gigi's and even Alberto's on the island, by pass this place. The jewel of the island is Fiorintinos. Best scallops I have ever had, and I order them regularly when I go out up and down the East coast. The place is a bit noisy but when you get away from the bar things quiet down. Service pleasant and efficient as all of the staff made you feel welcome. Look forward to returning. read more

As tourists, it is definitely a great place to dine in the area. We had the oysters, horseradish crusted grouper, coconut shrimp and oyster po boy - all very good. However, we were first placed at an outdoor seating (when asked we said yes with no hesitation) and, as tourists from Massachusetts, we had never experienced no-see-ums before this night. We were never warned, never told about them when seated. Then, after waiting 30 minutes for the table and getting eaten alive we asked to sit inside and were informed it would be another 30 minutes. So, we obliged and were then presented with a bar table and seats with no backs. There was an open booth available but the hostess seemed to not want to give it to us, perhaps believing we would ultimately cave and just endure the no-see-ums (which my mom is consequently allergic to). Finally, after asking the hostess again, she sat us at the open booth. For very good food, the service was disheartening. read more
