From the moment we stepped onto the porch, we were transported to Grandma's home and kitchen--it was truly magical. The Magnolia House on Park is a hidden gem nestled by the river at the end of the street. The covered screened-in porch is set for multi-season use, with ceiling fans and multiple fireplaces. We were promptly greeted and chose a corner table (which was custom-built from 100-year old barn wood). The menu changes daily along with a selection of entree salads. We decided to dine "family style" and chose chicken and dumplings and meatloaf. Our sides included a house salad (I had the house-made orange zest dressing; my companion chose Thousand Island), green beans, mashed potatoes, and corn. These were served with rolls that literally melted in your mouth. Before the main course was served, we enjoyed some of the best fried green tomatoes we've ever eaten. The portions are generous, and they gladly boxed up our leftovers--and I look forward to having those tomorrow. Though we were thoroughly satisfied, we were unable to pass on dessert--all homemade. I had the lemon berry mascarpone cake, which was served with a side of fresh whipped cream. My friend had the pumpkin pie--which was the perfect taste of fall. We both had Magnolia Iced tea --garnished with lemon, orange, and a sprig of organic mint. Bottomless refills are available, and our attentive server kept our glasses filled. We had the distinct pleasure of meeting the proprietor/cook, her daughter (our server) and her mother. Magnolia House on Park is a labor of love--something that shines through in every bite. Before we left, we enjoyed some retail therapy in the boutique, which features items from local artisans and books from local authors. We can't wait for our next visit! read more

Have tried many times to to fine here, but considering the hours they are open I may never get that chance. On a Sunday, at dinner time, 5:04pm and they had just closed. Their hours on Sunday are 12:00 to 5:00pm. Is that crazy or what. Check before you go, hours may change and a moments notice, nothing is for sure here. Ended up going for Chinese, always open, always great food. Nice when there's no surprises and restaurants are open. read more

It was my mom's birthday and I wanted to take her somewhere different. I had seen a couple reviews on social media about a new place in Danville, so we decided to try it out. We arrived around 5:00 for dinner. The restaurant is in a beautiful older American style house (maybe early 1900's) that has been turned into a very nice dining environment. They have a couple dining rooms, but we were seated in the first one you come to after you enter, so I can't comment on the other one. I wish I could say the service was great, but it was mediocre. I do believe the server may have been brand new, but she was very unsure of herself and unorganized. When we entered, she looked at us with confusion and said she guessed we would have to wait until she got some tables cleaned to seat us, which we understood. But another worker came out and heard her say that. She said to wipe off the table in the first dining room and seat us there. She did and we were seated in just a few moments. We had checked the menu online ahead of time because my brother has a few dietary restrictions and we wanted to make sure they had things he could eat, which they did. The menus they brought us were two pages just printed on copy paper. The salad menu was exactly what was shown online. The entree menu had a couple items that matched online, but the rest was different. The online menu showed spaghetti with marinara or meat sauce. My brother planned on getting the spaghetti with marinara. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option on the menu they handed us. He decided on the house salad instead. The prices for the salads were about what I would expect, but the prices for the entrees were on the high side, in my opinion. I totally understand that food prices are outrageous everywhere, but that is more than I would pay on any routine basis. I wish I had taken a picture of the menus, but I didn't. I do remember the pot roast was $22. Fountain drinks were $3.50. All of us decided on salads. My brother ordered the house salad with no cheese. My mom & I both ordered the strawberry pecan salad, while my husband ordered the Caesar salad. My brother & I added chicken to our salads, which was an extra $4 each. I'm unsure how long we waited on our food, but for all of us to have ordered only salads, it seemed like longer than we should have. They brought my brothers and my salad out first. Since both of ours had chicken added, I would have thought ours would be last. The server did realize pretty quickly that my brothers had cheese in it when it wasn't supposed to, so she took it back. They brought my mom's salad a couple minutes later. She & I both started eating. A good 5-10 minutes later, they brought back out my brother's, sans the cheese, and my husband's. My salad came with a strawberry pomegranate vinaigrette. I normally love vinaigrettes but this one didn't seem to have a lot of flavor. The grilled chicken also had a soft texture, almost like it was fatty. I wasn't crazy about the texture or taste of it. My husband's Caesar dressing was very thick. He said it was almost like a dip instead of a dressing. While none of the food was bad, I can't say it was amazing either. The server asked if we wanted dessert. I asked what type she had since it hadn't been on the menu. She had to go ask, but told us lemon berry cake and some type of cheesecake. I wanted to try the lemon berry cake. She brought it promptly but you could tell it was taken straight from the refrigerator. The cake being that cold made it less flavorful. I took a couple bites but decided to bring the rest home and try it after it warmed up (which was better by the way). The server brought us our ticket, which was hand written and had no prices. Another girl came in with a square reader and asked if we were using a card, which we were. I had it email me the receipt, which is when I found out the slice of cake was $9.50. This place is pretty new and may improve with time. I think the server just needs some experience under her belt. The other worker that took our payment must have been training her because she looked in on us herself a few times. read more

This place is so nice! You sit out on an enclosed deck, and makes you feel like you're in Pigeon Forge. The owner is very nice, and she has come out and spoken to me both times that I've eaten there when she found out that I eat Gluten Free. She explained to me everything that they have to offer that's GF, modifications they make, and cross contamination precautions they take. This is a huge deal if you have a food allergy, and not many places take this much care. The first time I went, I had GF waffles with whipped cream and berries, and I wish I had taken a pic. My chicken salad wrap and soup were both amazing, admins I can't wait to go back. read more

Saw the Sunday menu online and decided to drive from Charleston to take my mother for a treat. Posted as open 12-5 Sunday, but not open when we arrived at 12:45. No sign of life, so we left in search of a restaurant that honors their posted hours. read more

My friends and I wanted some different to try for dinner one evening and decided to schedule reservations. Our table was outside on the charming patio. It's decorated part shabby chic, part antique shop. It's an eclectic mix of styles that fit perfectly with the aesthetic of the place. I ordered mozzarella cheese appetizer, a turkey club, and most of my friends ordered the chicken salad on croissant. The food was fresh and tasted delicious! Bread was fresh, bacon was fried perfectly, and the turkey and ham were ok. I'm partial to good quality (Boars Head, Dietz and Watson and Private Selection) so the lunch meat was just ok. But it made for an overall good sandwich. The mozzarella appetizer was probably my favorite. They were fried crispy in panko with a delicious marinara. My friends said the chicken salad was great. Items were served with chips, my only complaint would be that french fries would be available. The house is beautiful, wait staff were friendly and the overall experience was wonderful!
