The place was very nice and really rustic. We had 5 different types of oysters and shrimp cocktail, both super fresh and fantastic. We had penne fra diablo with shrimp and the lobster risotto, both great. We had the blueberry pie for dessert and it was ok. The waitress was very nice but what caused the four stars was the fact that she forced us into ordering our dinners. When I explained we wanted to get through the raw bar appetizers, she said oh don't worry I won't put it into the kitchen until I come pick up your empty tray. Well needless to say, we didn't get the shrimp with our oysters and then received our dinners at the same time we get our shrimp cocktail. Tonight sat at the bar..new bartender... had to ask other bartender about a stoli and soda (?).. ..ordered fried calamari..served with Sriracha ..my husband liked it, i didn't so i asked for tomato sauce ..it was ice cold...ughh fine. I've never seen a harder working hostess. She not only handled the seating, but I saw her making drinks at the bar and serving food. I wanted to love this restaurant, the food was wonderful, and the service was fair. I had the strangest experience there. My sister and I order ed a glass of chardonnay. My glass had the normal amount of wine, my sister had half the amount. We thought they had run out of wine pouring my sister's glass and before they could open another bottle the waiter served it. They offered to crack the claws and whatnot for me, so if you're concerned with the mess they're willing to help you cut down on that. Knocked off a star for the lobster mac. Very bland. In my opinion the food is extremely average, but I should also note that I'm a harsh critic. In regards to service, the waitress was pleasant and trying really hard but needed more training. We both ordered salmon dishes and they ran out of salmon. The menu is basic and uninspired and the flavor, execution, plating etc. is comparable to a chain restaurant like Applebee's. In addition, when we arrived, we were standing outside for at least 5 minutes and the staff were there but completely ignored us. It was quite rude and awkward. I was warned not to come here because of the awful service. Wish we took that advice. Our waitress was rude from the start, and we had numerous awkward interactions throughout the meal. Our table was placed next to an emergency exit door that had no "do not open" or "not an exit" sign posted on the door. We heard knocking from the other side and opened the door to which our waitress reprimanded us as if we had done something terrible. It was just a door to outside?? Additionally, we were seated at 6 pm, our drink orders were placed within 10 minutes of us being seated, but we did not receive them until 6:40. We were never asked again if we would like another drink, the server was fine looking at 7 empty glasses on the table for the remainder of the meal. We complained to a manager which was regretted due to her complete lack of accountability and gaslighting. She offered us free dessert after telling us that we actually received our drinks 10 minutes after ordering them (essentially calling us liars). She also offered to change our server, which never happened. We had to continue the evening dealing with a server who very clearly hated her job and hated us. Had this new restaurant recommended by a local. The outdoors space is charming, though a bit buggy at night. We had a nice waitress. I was puzzled because there were bread plates but no bread was served. Had a nice glass of vinho verde. I'm happy to see this refreshing inexpensive wine on their wine list. I was blown away by the mixed green salad. It's big enough to share. The mussels marinara were excellent. The lobster cobb, salmon and fish and chips were all really good. The onion rings were off the charts. The only disappointment was the strangely watery Caesar salad. A nice change of pace from my usually obsessive Maine shellfish diet. When we arrived we were disappointed to find out there isn't air conditioning. It was a damp humid evening and the entrance and bar were hot and sweaty. The hostess said the main dining room was cool, but it wasn't. We opted to sit outdoors. The hostess accommodated us and found a table quickly even though we were nearly an hour early. Food was very good. We all had something different - Jambalaya, lobster, baked lobster, fish and chips and a hamburger. There's a lot of choices on the menu, something for everyone. Our waiter, Ricardo, was excellent and had a good sense of humor. The weather started to mist and he hoisted up an umbrella over us without being asked. Very appreciated. The kitchen was quick and everything came to the table hot. There are a number of dishes on the menu with the same names as items at Mabel's Lobster Claw in Kennebunkport: Charred Brussels Sprouts, Crispy Calamari, Mabel's Lobster Savannah, Seafood Newburg, Lobster Milanese (at Mabel's it used to be called Lobster Milanese before the original owners sold it. Now it's called The Milanese). So either the menu at The Maine Catch is an homage to the original Mabel's or there is some connection between the restaurants. read more

Jambalaya is just spicy enough to eat slow with fine tastes of mussel, shrimp, chicken and haddock. An adequate portion that could have been a tad larger. The penne fra diavlo was quite nippy with intense flavors. The fish and chips were above average and could have used one more chip. Get the carrot cake for desert! Good food. Good service. Horrible manager. They charged us $16 for sides of anchovies on two Cesar salads because it was "a protein". Not sure in what world anchovies are a "protein" and in what setting they cost $8 per salad. They throw that on pizza like it's nothing - $2 max. Also we were told "anchovies are never on Cesar salads"...really? Well I've never been to a restaurant that adds $8 of hidden charges per salad and claims anchovies never come on Cesar's. Manager in the red pantsuit called me a bully for arguing over a non-disclosed fee. It was semi-hilarious, semi-pathetic, and overall just terrible. Clearly have decided that tourists, despite being the lifeline of towns like this, should be treated like shit unapologetically even after spending $260 on dinner for three. read more

Absolutely terrible. If I could give a zero, I would. My wife wanted to dine here because it was close to our hotel and she thought walking by, that it had good ambiance. We didn't have reservations but we were willing to wait so we have our name and went to the bar. We were told it'd be about 35 minutes. The cocktail at the bar was good and we could have had dinner there but my wife wanted to experience the dining room. After finishing our cocktails it was about 40 minutes. I went to check with the hostess. She seemed to be miffed and told me it would be another ten. We went up in ten. People had just walked in and as we stood there, she told that she would seat them immediately. My wife said something to the hostess and she said that she would seat us first. But, only because my wife said something. We ordered the Caesar salad to share and scallops and fried chicken. The salad was fine but we waited again for our entrees and a table that sat well after we sat was served their food. I finally flagged down another server and asked for our server. That server seems pissed. When our server arrived, we asked where our food was and why the other table's food was already given to them. He said that because we had a salad. No apologies. Food came out and it was inedible. Both were soggy and very evident were sitting under the heat lamps. My wife thought ordering the blueberry pie would redeem the meal. Mistake - it was micro waved so hot but the crust turned mushy in a few minutes. Horrible, horrible, horrible Do yourself a favor, eat anywhere else. read more

My partner and I have been regulars here since their soft opening just over a year ago. (See previous 5-Star Reviews). The food has always been good; the service not as much, but in the current climate that all dining establishments are experiencing--lack of staffing--we have been patient. The barmaid works her tail off; the poor thing having to keep up with customers ordering food and drinks, AND having to make drinks for the restaurant. One evening, after a particularly long wait to place a drink order, my partner spoke to the hostess/manager and told her she should be jumping in where she was needed to help out struggling staff, i.e. the barmaid. Not sure she liked that much. I also don't think she forgot it either. Last night, we arrived without reservations (never had them before) with the intent of sitting in the bar area (which we always do). We were expecting another couple to join us. There was no space at the bar, or at the hi-tops in the bar (which are first come first serve), so our name was put on a list for an outdoor table with a wait of 30-35 minutes. About twenty minutes into our wait, a 4-top in the bar was vacated, so we asked the hostess/manager to remove our name from the outdoor table because we wanted to sit at the hi-top. She refused to do so, stating it would throw off the kitchen. What?? She also told us our table would be ready momentarily. We waited another 25 minutes. The 4-top sat vacant for the remainder of that 25 minute wait. Even if it were to affect the server, our server was the same one assigned to the high top. Let me also mention that in that entire 45 minute wait, we were never served at the bar because the bartender was overwhelmed. Sometimes, you just have to forget about how good the food is when a regular is treated like this. I will not return to this establishment. read more

Came here for the first time to celebrate my dad's birthday, and can't wait to come back! Awesome and attentive service, great atmosphere, and deliciously fresh food made from scratch. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the restaurant itself has a wonderful rustic, open atmosphere. We had a hard time deciding on food as everything sounded delicious but we ended up settling on the steamers, clam chowder, MC house salad, and the lobster savannah. Steamers were the biggest I've ever had. The clam chowder was a surprisingly large portion and loaded with clams. I love that their menu has a whole section dedicated to different ways of serving lobster. Upon our server's recommendation, we ordered the lobster savannah. This was deliciously large and stuffed with scallops and mushrooms. It takes a lot of work getting the meat (and messy!) but so worth it. For dessert, we couldn't resist ordering two slices of the blueberry pie and raspberry pie. SO GOOD - without a doubt, the best blueberry pie I've had so far. You could see the small Maine blueberries in the filling, and it was not exceedingly sweet and artificial like many pies can be. The pie crust was flakey and substantial in all the right ways. The raspberry pie was also a great balance between tartness and sweetness but the blueberry was a real standout. Definitely worth stopping by - we will be back! read more
