I had a few recommendations to come here to get my hair done. I'm so glad that I did! Upon walking in I was greeted instantly. I was a little early for my appointment, but they took me anyway and didn't have me wait. I was offered coffee, tea or water. Very friendly! Shalyn did my color! Absolutely fantastic! She listened to me to find out exactly what I wanted! Listened to my concerns and went from there. Continued to check on me while the dye was in my hair to make sure I was okay. I can't remember who cut my hair, but she did a wonderful job as well. She also listened to me and cut my hair the way I wanted it to be. I'm so satisfied with my hair and how it turned out. I will forever recommend this place to people! This Saturday, my son Aaron was married to my beautiful daughter in law, Amanda. They had photos taken at Argyle and the weather did a number on Amanda's hair. As we drove by, the Maid of Honor saw The Hair Studio and asked the bus driver to stop. She ran in and asked the salon if they could fix the brides hair. My son escorted his new bride in and waited for her, then walked her back out to the bus. So christen with a "C" has been cutting my hair for years and always does an amazing job so when she got a new position in an upscale salon I was excited to see what else the salon had to offer. It turns out I had one of the best experiences of my life. I was served wine and treated like family from the time I walked in the door until the time that I left. Dawn is one of the receptionists, she's extremely friendly and genuine as all get out. She was polite and courteous on the phone and super sweet in person. After seeing another patron leaving the studio with her make-up looking out of this world, I inquired about getting mine done for date night with my husband. The owner Donna did my make up and all I could say was WOW. Donna has a heart of gold and was seriously one of the kindest people I've had the pleasure of meeting. Hours later I still looked amazing at an outdoor concert. To top it all off I scheduled my three year old to have her first hair cut the fallowing day and all of the women in the salon stopped what they were doing to be involved in giving my daughter a great experience too. A three year old. I've never seen anything like it. Decided I wanted a subtle balayage. Was nervous but Shalyn made me super comfortable and listened to what I wanted. She consulted with me and explained every step along the way. Came out amazing! My appointment got canceled last minute at another salon and the makeup studio was able to get me in quickly for an appointment. Well.... I regret taking the appointment. I had grown out my roots for months in hopes of bringing my hair back to its natural dark dirty blonde/light ashy mousy brown color and covering the grays surrounding my face. What I ended up with??.... Well when I first sat to get my hair cut and dried- my roots were orange! I asked if they could fix it and she applied a glaze.... Still orange. So I was taken back for another color application. 3 hours later for a single process color and a glaze and my hair is red . Not natural at all. On top of that the rushed blow out (for which I was at least not charged) left my hair flat and lifeless. Despite my unhappiness with the terrible color that I could have achieved myself with a box I was charged $120. Needless to say I will never return to this salon. From setting up appointments for my makeup trial to solidifying all plans for the day of my wedding Dawn was the most personable and professional. Donna does an OUTSTANDING job! I had my makeup trial with her in December and loved her from that moment. She traveled to meet me in Huntington for my wedding on July 14 in order to do my makeup and my bridesmaids at 6am. Don't go there!!! I had my natural brown hair color and wanted to make Ombre style with some highlights. My stylist was Daniella. She charged me for full painting. I paid 270$ for nothing. My hair is yellow instead of white and hair quality sucks... completely dead!!! Even sometimes I'm using hair oil to brush it. I feel so bad, they called me and said we gonna fix your hair color for free but they are liars!!! I went there and they charged me again for 125$. I left salon angry and I don't wanna go there anymore. read more

I love Studio New York! I have been seeing Donna for several years and I can honestly say that I always leave one happy lady!! The atmosphere is relaxed and upscale. There is always a friendly vibe going on. Upon being seated as you await your color or haircut you are always asked if you would like a beverage. The staff is super friendly! This place is a joke. Not only did I pay over 200$ for terrible hair,I had terrible service. Some foreign woman did my hair. Had no idea what she was doing. All the colors bled and I had to pay 500$ to color correct it somewhere else. I sat for hours while the mistake was trying to be corrected. Would not recommend that hair dresser. read more

What a great experience, everyone there is so nice and attentive. I get my color done by Shalyn, she is so talented. She really listens to what I want and always works with me until I am completely happy. She is really the best colorist I've used, she is definitely worth my trip because I don't live locally. I first went to her so she can fix the horrible job that another hair stylist did on my hair somewhere else. My hair was orange and Shalyn brought it back to life with the beautiful cool blonde I always wanted. She spend hours on my hair getting it right and healthy never feeling rushed. The Hair Studio/Make Up Studio is awesome. On a total whim, without hearing anything about them at all, I used this salon for my/my bridesmaids wedding day hair and makeup. The studio made each one of us feel comfortable, welcome and beautiful! They did a great job and I was still getting compliments at midnight, what more could I want? I guess I should hold my judgment until the day after when I have to style it myself, but I'm pretty sure I got the best hair cut of my life this afternoon. My stylist was intuitive to my needs, asked questions along the way, and was knowledgable about my hair type and how a certain cut would effect it in the long run. I came out with a perfectly face-framing bob that will hopefully help me transition into a longer hair style. Added bonus: I was in and out in 35 minutes, including waiting, hair washing, and styling. I didn't even feel rushed at all. They were just pleasant and efficient. Cant believe some of the reviews on here! So this review is very much overdue.... First off Donna and Jacqueline are awesome! They always are accommodating and always get me in for an appointment right away. The place is clean, everyone is friendly and its nice to have a hot cup of coffee as soon as I roll out of bed rushing to my (day long) hair appointment. I have a long mane, so just as any salon it takes a few hours for perfection. :) They always have up to date magazines ( ladies you know it sucks when you are ready last years People!) Jaime always cuts my hair shes awesome! Jaime also does my hair for every occasion I go to.... Baby showers, weddings.. even my own engagement party and bridal shower. Johnnie does my color and she is phenomenal! I cant say enough great things about this salon! My sisters, my mother and my aunt all go here including a couple of friends I've referred. I found a hair colorist on Instagram after a lot of searching for a more local stylist. I have a long term stylist that is in NYC, I had just had surgery and couldn't make the trip and needed some gray coverage and a few highlights. I met with Shalyn after having a consult via text that involved pictures of my hair and ideas of color I wanted. I stated a lived in color look, embracing my natural roots. She stated it would be easy, I had nice hair and didn't need much. The actual color appointment process was complicated. There was highlights and then, without discussion, permanent color applied to my roots. I was nervous as I felt if hitting my scalp - what is this?- and asked if the color would match my natural and she said yes! I sat with the color for a while. I felt forgotten about. Shal was busy and complaining she needed more help from her assistant, running around trying to tend to all her clients. Leaving me to "process". At the rinse station I saw in the reflection of my phone my roots were ORANGE. I stood up and walked to a mirror (you are not seated in front of a mirror during any point of the color or wash) and was horrified. Orange. Shal immediately slathered on a brown root shadow to cover the orange. The environment was frantic. She had clients and was busy and had contentious moments with her assistant the entire time. She was frazzled and it made me more worried! The root shadow totally covered the highlights she added, she attempted to blow my hair out after without even brushing it. I almost cried. It was just such an awful color. So far from our discussion and what my hair looked like. She then added more highlights to the front bc it was so dark. They were messy, sloppy. She said "well I had to throw them in fast" - like that's acceptable. Ultimately I had to just stop. I said enough with all of this, my hair was ruined. She stated many times she "f--ked up", "didn't know you had virgin hair" "this is why text consults are bad. I should have asked you" a lot of hair jargon to sound in control, "color deposit" "lifting", all VERY apologetic. My hair was still awful. And the part that gets me is that I was charged. In ANY CAPACITY. $160 after the discounts applied for, literally, and admittedly, f-ing up my hair. I had to spend 3x that amount for color correction the following week bc my sister was getting married. The women were nice and concerned with my discontent - especially Shalyn. But overall, I'd advise not to go here. I rarely write reviews but read them a lot, and I'd like to help someone else out. My hair hasn't recovered. It's fragile and sloppy. The salon was unprofessional and chaotic, arguing on the floor, rushing, pouting assistants - all as my hair was turning orange. Charging the client after all that is just bad practice. read more

My mother has been going here for years. She has been seeing Matt since he started years ago. I had come in for trims here and there, but I lived in NYC. Since I moved back out here, this is the only place I'll go. I was dying my natural blonde hair with boxed black dye for 10 years. I knew going back blonde would take a while if I wanted it to stay healthy. Matt got it back in record time! I couldn't believe it! I felt nickled-and-dimed when I went in for highlights earlier this season. $120 for a full head of painted on highlights is fine on it's own, but I was then charged $50 for a "root touch up" to cover just a few unruly grays, $20 for toner after the highlights, and an additional $35 for a blowout. All of this while three different people were working on my hair (so three tips...) At the very minimum, why couldn't my hair have been blown out for free considering everything else I was charged for? At the end, the highlights were sub-par at best. When I spoke to the colorist and told her I wasn't pleased with the results, she couldn't articulate a good response as to why they came out that way. Instead she said "you can come back and we'll paint more on." Yeah... no thanks. I've had better work done at less expensive salons. I prefer Cactus across the street and will be returning there. read more

Jacqueline at the front desk is always so sweet and helpful! Donna & Matthew do my makeup for any events and always give me exactly what I had in mind (not too much I don't wear a lot of makeup). Reese or Ashley are my go to's for my hair needs, cut, blowout, updo they're both sweet, funny and amazing at what they do! Johnnie is my colorist, she's talented beyond words! She's so sweet and always gives me the best suggestions! Not sure why this place has only 3 stars. Called today to make an appointment today and they were able to squeeze me in no problem. Beautiful, clean, trendy salon. Front desk staff was super friendly and accommodating. They have coffee, water, tea and wine! What's to hate about a salon that offers that? I was treated like a celebrity, I had Donna and Tori blow drying my long mane before being cut and styled. Donna was amazing and friendly. One of my bridesmaids uses the Makeup Studio for all of her special events, so I went for a hair trial with Reese and a makeup trial with Donna. I had done a trial at another salon, and couldn't put my finger on why I wasn't thrilled with it. I gave only loose instruction to Reese, and she came up with an amazing hairstyle that fit exactly what I was looking for. The same happened with Donna. I brought a few photos from pinterest to show I wanted a more dramatic makeup look, and she really delivered. I only booked them in March for our June wedding, but they were very accommodating, and didn't seem to mind that I booked closer to the date. The day of our wedding Reese came with a second hairstylist, and Matthew came to start us off with Donna coming halfway through to take over. Everyone arrived right on time, and my four bridesmaids, Mom, Mother-in-law, and myself were all done ahead of time, and we were all so, so happy with our hair and makeup. They are a bit pricier than other salons I'd looked at, but I felt that it was worth the cost, since the end result was so stunning. I booked and signed a contract for Matthew to do my makeup for my wedding a year in advance. I left 100 dollar deposit. 3 days before my wedding I texted him to make sure on times and his response was I'm sorry but I doubled booked and I'm in California. My jaw dropped. He wasn't planning on telling me bc he didn't want to stress me out. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE BUSINESS. The person who referred me could not believe it and she also will never use him again. This was my third visit to the salon After 2 visits with good results, I was confident in the salons capabilities. Unfortunately, I had a different experience this time. My stylist gave me a great cut, she listened to what I had to say and I was very pleased with the outcome. On the other hand, my colorist seemed distracted and rushed. My "natural" looking highlights came out striped and overly blonde, when we discussed a honey-blonde expectation. I don't think I'll ever return for a Saturday visit. Management seemed unaware of my disappointment, and the overall gossip around the salon was almost unbearable. read more
