I never even got the chance to eat here because we were ignored at every turn. No one picked up the phone to place a takeout order. When we went in person, there was no one at the host stand us to greet us at all. Staff members kept glancing over at us and saying nothing at all, while we stood awkwardly by the door for nearly 15 minutes. Multiple other people were seemingly told the wait would be very long for a table, but there were plenty of open tables in clear view. We tried to call to make a reservation for dinner earlier in the afternoon, left a message, and never received a call back. We showed up early, around 5pm, and were seated right away, while the place was still fairly empty. However, once it filled up, we were pretty uncomfortable, COVID-wise. There were about 7 tables in the dining room and their idea of social distancing was to leave one of them empty. There was barely enough room for servers to navigate to all of the tables. When people started arriving and all the tables were full, they were allowed to wait right inside the doorway in the bar area, where others were sitting to eat. We considered asking for our order to go, but decided to just stick it out and eat quickly. Our drinks sat on the bar within our view for a bit too long while our waitress took takeout orders over the phone, but once we got them finally, my cocktail was delicious. Our food was also great. My dining companion had the classic burger, which was cooked perfectly, and the fries were also amazing (i stole a few). I had a special which was chicken stew & biscuits and it was the perfect fall comfort food. The service here was super friendly, if a bit disorganized. We were seated right near the phone/hostess stand and it seemed like a whole discussion was necessary every time they had to seat someone. Our server and several other employees (manager? other servers?) came to check on us and ask how our food/drinks were, but at least one of them was not wearing his mask properly (NOSE OUT) so we would have preferred if he didn't. I ordered takeout here to celebrate my birthday last night (6/12). I ordered at 7:29pm with my food being promised at 7:59pm. As I was on my way to get my order, I received an email saying that the order had never been confirmed by the restaurant, although, I had been charged for it at 7:29. We called to ask and they told us that the order was in their system but they had forgotten to confirm it so it was going to be another 30-40 minutes. This was upsetting as we had placed our order at 7:29 and didn't receive it until 8:40. When I arrived to pick it up, I very kindly explained my situation and asked the manager if I could have either a full refund or at least a refund on half of my order. She said that she felt that was not fair but that she would give me a 20% refund and said she would "only take 20% of the responsibility" for her mistake, implying I was at fault for the other 80% of her mistake and continued to blame me for it. I showed her the email I received confirming the order was placed at 7:29pm and promised at 7:59pm and she refused to accept that and kept telling me it wasn't her fault. She couldn't figure out how to issue a refund so she walked away and left me waiting for another 20 minutes just to tell me she was unable to issue a partial refund (although she could have issued a full refund but again refused). She had me write down my information for her boss to call me the next morning (it is now noon of the next day and I still haven't received a call) and walked away for another 5 minutes. By the time I left with my food it was 9:10pm and the food was cold. I have been working in the restaurant business for 7 years, I understand that it was a Saturday night, but taking over an hour to make a meal that was supposed to be ready in 30 minutes and then blaming the customer and refusing to take responsibility is absurd. The way I was treated by the manager of this restaurant was totally uncalled for, she was rude, abrasive, and just plain mean. I left this place in tears on my birthday because of how poorly I was treated. I will never be back and I hope others have a better experience than I did, although, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. How this woman became the manager of a restaurant with zero customer service skills is beyond me. read more

She comes back and say the chef is working on it now and it takes longer here because they make from scratch. Ok. Let it pass. Another 15min and nothing. This time grab an owner and make the complaint. He goes to kitchen and comes back saying our order didn't go through. Apologizes and bring over tots while waiting. My biggest issue is that our waitress lied to our face and now it's been over hour and 20min for 2 sandwiches. Seriously? And that same waitress (glasses, blond hair in ponytail) did the same thing to next table. I really wanted to like this place because this used to be one or my favorite place around here. I made a reservation for seven people for my son's 14th birthday and was looking forward to coming here based on the reviews and how friendly the person who took the reservation seemed. When we arrived, the host asked if we reserved two tables - one for four people, one for three. I said no, we reserved one table for seven people and he seated us at the two tables, promising that we could move to the table for seven when it cleared. Another party was then seated at the table for seven and when we followed up about it, the host said that we didn't have a reservation and the table for seven wasn't happening. The conversation seemed surreal and his tone was unnecessarily abrasive and rude. I love sport bar type restaurants, finding one that I love has been more difficult especially during the pandemic, finding staff is nearly Impossible, The Maple leaf some how has managed to find top notch staff from management, waitstaff, bartenders to kitchen staff all of them providing excellent service. Our first visit it was extremely busy, what impressed me most was their manager. he was running around helping his waitstaff during an extremely busy time, it was something I have never seen, how he hustled to ensure the customers had a good experience. I couldn't help but watch him, I was amazed by his work ethic. He was helping clear tables, bringing out food, giving the bartender a hand and making sure to go around talking to customers to ensure they were satisfied and waited on and served in a timely manner. I assumed he was the owner giving the 150% he was putting in. So I asked the bartender if he was the owner so informed me he was the manager, I was completely impressed. The bartender was one of the best I've come across. She had a full restaurant full bar and you did not wait long at all for a drink. We were also playing Keno she was right there we did not miss a game. Our food was much better then any pub food in our area. I had to ask what their names were, the managers name is Tom I think The Maple Leaf hit the jackpot when they hired him. The bartender who was also our server name was Jess another grand slam hire. we have been going for about two years now on a regular basis I have yet to have a single complaint. I have heard silly complaints from some customers while having dinner. it took everything for me to zip my lip. I just wanted to remind them they were in a pub not fine dining. So if you're looking for a great pub I think this is an option you will not be dissatisfied with, if you're looking for fine dining then go to a fine dining restaurant. I forgot to mention the prices it is affordable way do you have a good experience. I have never written a review like this, I just felt it was so well deserved. MLT was pretty much the only restaurant open during our Wednesday overnight stop in Wilmington. The small dinning room was a little loud as we were seated in between two noisy groups. Not the restaurants fault. We were hungry and tired and honestly didn't have real high expectations. Before taking our order, The server politely informed us that the kitchen was a little backed up and we could be looking at 20-30 minute wait for our entrees. So we ordered an appetizer and some drinks. We ordered the chicken piccata and the filet. Both were well worth the wait.
