We called in advance to see what the availability was and they said they do not except reservations. So we check the website often and headed there for a family celebration for a graduation in December. We arrived to learn they were closed due to a private event that was not previously posted on the website. Not cool. read more

Ambiance is great for date night or a night on the town! I don't want to ruin the essence and surprise of this place, but upon entering you'll see a hot dog stand and the rest... well you'll just have to find out. Heads up, if you're into "acting out exclusivity" this is your place. The throwback entrance is very cool, but that's where it ended for us. The greeter inside the secret entrance took our phone number for seating then scooted us to the outdoor area to get drinks. As we passed through we noticed plenty of seating inside and were shocked to see more people outside than inside. You don't have a choice in sitting outside or inside, the outdoor area is a holding tank for you while you wait until you feel special enough to enter. After paying 40$ for three drinks w/tip, we were sweating and ready to go inside. We went in amd saw enough seating inside to seat nearly everyone in the sweatshop outside. We took a seat at the bar, the greeter guy approached us and shook us down like we broke in the place. I pointed out all the empty seats and let him know we were no longer sitting outside and I could take my money elsewhere. He said "Hold on" and walk away as if he were going to call the cops or something. Yeah, no thanks. I informed the bar staff that guy was losing them money good tip money and left. Well, I went here again and I am so happy they raised prices because it keeps young college kids away. However we tried to order drinks off the old menu which were honestly pretty basic and can be made if you have a full bar.. which they do have. But we were told the whole bar changes seasonally which is a crock of horse shit. My go to bar is now the Atomic because they know what the hell they are doing and I can always order off the "old menu". Wont be back ever again. read more

I love this place. The atmosphere, drinks and food are fantastic. The staff is always friendly but the Latino bartender SUX!!!! He has a bad attitude and really needs to go. I sat there for 25 minutes waiting for a drink all the time watching him do NOTHING. It was 7:30pm and it was not busy at all. One of the girls took care of me and my friend. Can't tell you where it is or how to get in but it's definitely worth asking a local! The decor is straight out of the 1920's and I really want someone to drink champagne out of my show as I sit in the super sparkly bathtub! It's all very hush hush as you pull a chain for your order and your sever magically appears to take care of your table. They have a nice outdoor area too. I'd hoped for more. Great location. I like the entrance gimmick. You enter through a phone booth. It's supposed to be a speakeasy so you should have to give a password to a doorman. You don't or at least we didn't. Inside is nice enough. Tables and a bar. I don't get the feel of a 20s speakeasy but admittedly I am going on my perception of one. The bartender and servers are in costume. Sorta. Server was wearing contemporary shoes. I get it. Comfort but if you're going to do a theme then do it and that is my biggest problem with the Marble Room. It half asses it. It's not a terrible place to have a drink but it's really just a bar with a unique entrance. The are not trying to sell the imagery of a 1920s speakeasy. At least not with any vigor. read more

Honestly couldn't be more disappointed in the sequel. Came here soon after the opening and had a great experience. Service was prompt and drinks were excellent. Returned in Oct of 2017 to a terrible experience. Extremely rude hostess. Waitress forgot our drink order and blamed it on a "system mess up". I LOVE this place. There are no signs from the outside to hint it is there, you have to find out by the internet or word of mouth. You enter by Fancy's, walk up stairs, go to the phonebooth by the hot dog place, and call to get in. When you enter, there's a great 1920s atmosphere with waitresses in flapper dresses and bartenders in black outfits and suspenders. The decor is great; there are old fashioned chairs and you have to pull the cord on the wall to order a drink. My only complaint is that all the mixed drinks are about $12 and there's only like one that doesn't have whisky in it, which I don't like. It is 630pm on Saturday. I took a peak in the place when they let someone in. I kid you not I saw 9-10 spots open at bar. I asked hostess can we just set at the bar (two of us) she tells me no we are seating people as quickly as possible. We have now been standing here for 15 minutes no one let in. People behind us all just left. FYI to the owner if you are reading this you are losing business and this trying to be sleek by letting so many people in when it's not busy is going to get old. Wow. I had heard a couple of negative things about this place, so I was not sure what to expect. I could not have been any more happily surprised! We recently went to a "speakeasy" type of place in Nashville, and this place blew that one out of the water! From the way that you enter through the phone booth to the awesome decor to the amazing cocktails...everything here was done just right! We arrived rather late in the evening on our first visit, and were seated at the bar right away, but I expect that there will be a bit of a wait at peak times. The bartenders were very friendly as well, and definitely know how to serve up an awesome cocktail. I can't wait for us to go back soon!! read more

I would love to write a review of our experience in the bar if we could actually get in. Instead, I'm going to write a review of NOT getting in and the BS associated with trying to get in. We had a party of six and ate at the restaurant downstairs, Fancy's on Fifth. The food was amazing btw. Our server, Billy said he would put our name on the list but warned us there would be a wait. Waiting wasn't the issue. The issue I have is we were told we couldn't put our name on the list bc of prior experiences the bar has had with people not showing up in the past. We finish up dinner and we head upstairs and I go through the process of picking up phone in the booth. The girl that picked up couldn't have been more put off that she had to speak to me. She mentioned there would be a wait as there was some parties before us. No biggie, so I gave her my number and she mentioned she would call when our "table" was ready. This took place at approx 930pm. As we were waiting, big parties were coming out and big parties started going in. I came to find it you can put your name on the list but not everyone can put there name on the list. Huh?! I don't know what that even means but I guess we weren't special enough and our money wasn't green enough to spend at the bar. Maybe the credit card we were going to use was made of plastic that wasn't compatible with their credit card machines. Who knows?! Back to the lovely girl that said she would call me when the table was ready...it's 1030am and I'm still waiting for the call to let us know we could come in. I completely understand what they are trying to do, but make sure everyone knows the proper process to go though to get in. Either use a list or make it first come first serve. I might give it another shot, but after last night, other than the environment, I don't see how a drink at the Marble Ring differs from a drink at Parkside. read more

This place even gets a star based on the simple fact that it is boosting sales at its surrounding bars because you'll leave and go to another bar before you get in here. Their hostess will take your name and number with no intention of actually texting you when your table or area is ready. They're extremely unorganized and will let people who barge in like asses get a table before those who do it the right way and put their name down and wait for your ready text. If you don't care at all about waiting for hours, this is the place for you. read more

Loved everything about this place. The atmosphere is super cool (the exit is easy to find, the entrance is worth the effort), the bartender was great, and The Marble Ring is my new favorite cocktail. The service was incredibly slow - both getting the waitress to come over and getting our drinks. The place wasn't even at maximum capacity. I don't think I've ever waited so long for a drink. Went on a Friday evening for drinks with a friend. The place has a mysterious and playful vibe. You enter through a phone booth inside Hot Diggity Dogs in Avondale. You pick up the old-fashioned dial phone and state how many are in your party. The host then leads you through the locked speakeasy door. Mood lighting and vintage decor sets the tone. Think Great Gatsby and the Roaring 20s. Indeed, the Marble Ring draws its inspiration and back story from a Zelda Fitzgerald quote. The venue is good for both small and medium sized parties. My friend and I sat at the bar, but there are also clusters of 4 to 5 chairs along the wall that allow for groups. The staff was very friendly and attended to our needs promptly. I got the "Waltzes and Sad Songs" beverage off of the signature drink menu. Gingery and lemony, it was highly refreshing and did not have a strong liquor taste, which was fortunate for me, because I do not tolerate overpoweringly alcoholic drinks well. I felt comfortable because I was in cocktail attire, but some folks there were dressed more casually. I recommend you check this off your Birmingham bucket list! read more
