Classy table layout
Brian V.

I recently stayed in the Mimosa room at The Mark Addy for a weekend while visiting the area. What initially drew me here was the beautiful mountain scenery and history behind the mansion (it belonged to Thomas Jefferson's Physician!) Upon arriving I was greeted by the owner Leslie who showed me to my room. The decor and layout did not disappoint! It was as if I was going back in time! Once in the room Leslie pointed out a coupon book for all the local businesses which I was already planning on visiting so that was a huge plus. Once I got settled in I spent a few minutes reading through a guest log in the room with written experiences from guests before me. I of course added to it on my final night. In my room was a clawfoot bathtub along with a pair of bathrobes and bottle of wine (upon request). The bed was very comfortable and the room was cleaned and organized in between nights. Breakfast was better than one could get at a renown country club and the quality was such that would make even the most hardcore Whole Foods shopper drool with envy. As an advocate for farm to table practices I was very pleased, especially considering how close they are to various farms. A recent reintroduction of their restaurant held in the "fountain room" of the mansion was a delightful coincidence since I didn't know about it when I booked the room initially. The young eccentric chef Andrew prepared a three course meal for us that tops any other restaurant in the area (sorry Blue Mountain Brewery). The intimate setting of the dining room with window views overlooking the sun setting over the Blue Ridge Mountains as my beloved and I shared a world class meal is apparently open to anyone even if they aren't staying, so beyond my recommendation on staying at The Mark Addy I IMPLORE you to make a reservation for a night of fine dining at The Fountain Room within the mansion. I won't waste words describing the overall scenery and atmosphere at The Mark Addy because they wouldn't even scrape the surface. Take my word for it - you HAVE to experience it yourself. It's no surprise that they have a high demand for smaller, more intimate weddings held here every year....can't wait to go back!

My wife and I stayed at the Mark Addy for a romantic weekend getaway after a long overseas deployment. Leslie and Rafi were amazing hosts, and they made us feel right at home. Our room was very comfortable, and had amazing views of the sunset and mountains. The King bed in the Kensington suite was amazingly comfortable. The location of the Inn is perfect. It is only a couple of miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, and central to many wineries, breweries, markets, and the city of Charlottesville. We loved it because you could relax at the Inn all day and enjoy the solitude and views, or drive 30 minutes into town and enjoy great restaurants, bars, clubs, and live music. We will definitely be back soon. One note, if you need a place where the inn keepers wait on you hand and foot, the Mark Addy isn't for you. Leslie and Rafi treat you as one of their own, and will certainly help and take care of any issues you have, but they mostly just leave you to yourself to enjoy the Inn and countryside.

We had a wonderful stay at the Mark Addy Inn in the Schloss room over an August weekend. Booking was fast and easy with their online reservation tools. The house and the grounds are lovely, set off just enough from the road to have privacy while being close enough for easy access to all that Nelson County has to offer. The Schloss room is pet-friendly but still clean, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. The host couple are wonderful and balance each other out perfectly -- Rafael with his dry sense of humor, and Leslie with her kind and compassionate care for her guests. They are very up front about the house rules and how things work, so there were no surprises when we arrived. They welcomed not only us but our cat in to their Inn with open arms. We spent both evenings enjoying their company over some wine and great conversation, but then in the mornings they were still up and ready with coffee and beautiful breakfasts for us to enjoy. They were even more than happy to accommodate my vegetarian diet with nothing more than a quick note at registration. In short, we had a spectacular stay and were only sad to be leaving. We are looking forward to planning another trip to visit the Mark Addy in the coming year so that we can enjoy their company and all that the area has to offer.

Yum! Breakfast was amazing.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at The Mark Addy and loved every minute of it. Bringing one of our dogs was a great experience (thankfully she was well behaved and happily stayed in our room) we stayed in the sundance room. A great choice, it had it own outside door to a patio and pool room. Extremely comfortable & quiet. The food outstanding, the decor perfect for a b&b. Warm & cozy. We opted for a driver to visit the wineries. Money well spent. Tim our driver was friendly and knowledgable about the area. Thankful for the hospitality of Leslie and Raphael. We will be back!

My boyfriend and I needed to escape DC and get some R&R. The mountain views, breweries and wineries in Nellysford was the perfect remedy! Not to mention the delicious gourmet breakfast, cozy residence, cheerful staff and guests and lovely porch view where we could drink complimentary mulled cider. We really enjoyed our stay and the area. Didn't want to come back!

Wifi at the cabin was helpful in locating things to do in the area since there's no cell service. We kept the electronics to a minimum and enjoyed the beauty the area has to offer. The highlights of our stay were the hike to the top of Crabtree Falls, the beach fun at Sherando Lake and the visit to Wild Wolf Brewery for dinner and corn hole. Can't wait to book our next stay at what the kids have dubbed "our cabin in Virginia!" Lol!

Logwood - Renter Beware!!!…read more Video/pictures are carefully presented to not depict what you will be truly getting. If you are looking for a private cabin in the woods with easy access to a creek right outside the back door, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. - The cabin is located on a well-traveled road, not off the beaten path via the gravel drive depicted. - There are two additional homes right next door - a big rating of 0 for privacy. - The inside is extremely small (which was ok), but the photos do not accurately depict what is there. The full size washer/dryer (in the kitchen) is overkill in this little space , no cute table & chairs; instead an ugly bar thing. The furnishings are more than a little worn; look like they came from a bad second-hand store. - Bath is ok; no shower. - Upstairs is a one room loft. The video depicts 2 full size beds, the written description states 3. Which is it? Three beds and dressers, which makes for very little space to even move around. I can't imagine 6 adults sleeping up there. - If you are disabled or elderly, you will not be able to enjoy the creek in the back as one must navigate a steep vertical slope down/up. And, I mean steep! - While the cabin is set up to sleep a hand full of people, the size is truly for no more than 2 - even three would be pushing it. - As we didn't stay, I can't really comment on the kitchen (it "appeared" adequate) or the condition/comfort of the beds. We wanted to get away from it all, not be sharing our time with the neighbors next door and not be able to enjoy the creek and surrounding woods. Suffice it to say, people do not pack up with 2 large dogs, fill up with gas (which is not cheap these days), and travel for several hours only to turn around and leave. While we were offered to try another cabin, we declined in that we really didn't want to deal with folks who had been so deceptive from the get go and continued to place the blame on us since we didn't investigate the property on Google Maps. Really!!! We were offered a 50% refund, of which we only received a portion. We should have been refunded 100% for the pet fee charge and the arm load of fire wood we purchased, plus an error in their math when initially charging us. As far as I'm concerned, we should have been refunded for every penny.

There are a couple of hiking trails on the property itself plus there is good fishing in the lake (I caught a couple of nice bluegill thanks to Lisa's tip on the best fishing spot) and you can use kayaks, a paddle boat and a row boat as well. Each cabin also has a firepit, grill and picnic table. The property location is perfect as well and you're only a couple of miles from a Dollar General, grocery store, and most importantly wineries and breweries while still being in a really quiet place. There are couple of minor issues to keep in mind but don't let them stop you from staying here. The lighting in the cabin's living was a little dim so it could be a little hard to read at night if you don't move right next to a lamp. The beds were comfortable but the mattresses were just a little hard but that's just personal preference. Things were pretty quiet outside when we were there but I could see the lake getting a little busy if all four cabins were full and everyone wanted to use the lake at the same time. Also keep in mind that pets are allowed in most of the cabins and I believe people are supposed to keep their dogs on leashes but didn't always do so. Duane and Lisa are awesome people and provide the southern hospitality that you'd expect. A storm was coming the day we were supposed to check in and they emailed us to let us know we could check in earlier than usual that day or even the night before to make sure we stayed safe. I'd come back here for sure and highly recommend checking this place out.

The cottages (there are 4 to choose from) are well appointed with everything you need and lack exactly what you don't need in a place like this (phone, tv, or internet). The cottages are in Dyke, VA about 20 minutes from Skyline Drive so it's very easy access for hiking. It's about 45 minutes to Charlottesville where you can shop for groceries, go to dinner, or just hang out if you need to reconnect with the city. The cabins have jacuzzi's, full kitchens, grills, backyards with fire pits, indoor fireplaces and board games. They also have a salt water pool in the main house that you can use (and I recommend after a hike!). Personal touches make this place what it is: they've thought of everything. We also loved the fresh cookies that were dropped off at our house and Chuck and Stew always write us personal notes to welcome us to the house. Looking for privacy? The cabins are secluded and you enter them via a keypad on the door so you don't have to check in or out...just come and go as you wish. I highly recommend this place! And will be back in the fall.

I would not recommend Prospect Hill Inn as a wedding venue…read more My daughter chose this venue because we were repeatedly told that if we communicated our wishes ahead of time, everything would be handled and we could simply relax and enjoy the wedding day. Unfortunately, our experience was the exact opposite. Upon arrival, we had to carry all of our belongings and wedding items down paths to the cabins ourselves. Although golf carts were available on the property, no assistance was offered. Prior to the wedding, we provided decorations and special charms that were to be attached to my daughter's bouquet in memory of grandparents who had passed away. We were assured that everything would be taken care of. On the morning of the wedding, we were asked when the bouquet was needed and stated 4:00 p.m. for pictures. By 4:15 p.m., we had received no communication. Multiple texts to the owner went unanswered. When I finally reached her by phone, she was not even on the property and said she would not be back for another 30 minutes. The wedding was scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. I ended up locating the bouquet myself. The memorial charms had not been attached, and no one knew where they were. At 5:00 p.m., the owner still had not arrived, and no staff member seemed to know what was happening or what needed to be done. Our family was left coordinating the wedding ourselves. The ceremony was delayed until 5:30 p.m., which affected photography since the photographer was only contracted for a limited amount of time. To make matters worse, when it was time for the couple's first dance, the owner told my daughter that she knew nothing about it, despite it being included in the contract and paid for as part of the package. We were then rushed through photos because dinner was scheduled for 7:00 p.m., even though many of the delays stemmed from the lack of coordination earlier in the day. The owner also interrupted the couple's send-off over a pen issue that could have been handled later. The problems continued throughout our stay. The air conditioning in our cabin failed on the final night, leaving us in uncomfortable temperatures above 80 degrees. When we politely shared our concerns before leaving, hoping for an explanation or apology, none was offered. Instead, responsibility was shifted back onto us. We were also owed a credit on our account. Initially, we were told it could not be refunded because the original card used for booking had been closed. After considerable discussion, a cash refund was finally offered. However, when my daughter picked it up, it was $21 short. We were told this was for breakfast-in-bed delivery for the newlyweds, despite previously being told that this was included in the wedding package. Perhaps most disappointing of all, when the newlyweds checked out, the owner would not speak with them. This was a weekend that should have been focused on celebrating my daughter's wedding. Instead, we spent much of it dealing with issues that we had specifically been assured would be handled by the venue. We left feeling disappointed, stressed, and unsupported.
