I brought my teenage daughters with me to this restaurant last night and was pleasantly surprised by the contemporary and clean interior. There were large TV monitors where sports were being shown and my daughter enjoyed watching the tennis match while she ate. We started with the Greek Salad which the kitchen kindly split for us. The salad was tasty with fresh and hearty ingredients. We really enjoyed that starter along with the Charcuterie plate. I especially enjoyed the duck pate and they give you ample pieces of bread to compliment the cheeses and meats unlike most places that leave you asking for more. For entree, we ordered the Sticky Ribs, the Green Pea Risotto, the Salmon, and the Bruschetta with Burrata Cheese. We loved all the dishes and each of us had a different favorite. The Salmon skin was perfectly prepared and crisped. For dessert, we ordered two cheesecakes. Even though I didn't intend on having any, I couldn't resist once they arrived. Of all the cheesecakes I've ever had, this is by far the best. Not only was the texture of the cheesecake perfectly soft and melted right in my mouth, it was not overly sweet. The chef also paired it with a smear of chocolate and whipped taro cream. The Taro cream was a surprise. It was not just visually pleasing but it was THE MOST AMAZING COMBINATION with the cheesecake! Why didn't anyone else think of this? Genius! Needless to say, we had no complaints on the food. The service staff including the waiter, the manager and the bartender were all very friendly and our drinks were refilled before we even realized we needed one! What a wonderful dinner. This place is super chill and quiet and I love it. It's got a nice decor and the ambiance is great for a relaxing evening. We started off with the fromage and charcuterie and it was great. We did two cheeses and a smoked ham. It came with honey and homemade chow chow. The cocktail menu isn't huge but it's different and it's done well. The smoke n' spice was my favorite of the three. Although the host greeted me when I walked in and as I walked out, I had to ask my server 2 times for the check. I'm shocked that this place has over 4 stars. The very first experience here was less than 3 and it just went down from there. The host was cold as we entered. It's pretty noisy and has a bar-like feel, which is fine, but was unexpected. Our server came quickly and then rushed off. When she came back, I asked about getting the chicken for my Caesar salad blackened, which she said they couldn't do because it's pulled chicken. I responded saying that it was weird. She looked at me funny and said "it's actually delicious". Spoiler alert, it wasn't . The chicken was so dry, the Caesar dressing was water and nothing good. Bland and overpriced! You know, for weekday lunch in the Loop, the service here was pretty darn quick. Not to mention attentive, as we were checked on numerous times, and my water glass never reached empty. I always appreciate when my meatless options at a restaurant are more than various versions of lettuce in a bowl. My heart wanted the vegan sandwich but I saw raw onion in the description and only on days when I'm 100% sure I won't be sitting close to anyone right after would I take such a gamble. Instead, I went with the falafel sandwich, also really good and served with just the right amount of fries. We had the honey whipped ricotta as an appetizer...I'm not normally an appetizer girl but would absolutely make the exception for this yumminess next time I'm there. Oh, and I think I ordered the In Between Flights cocktail, which was solid....solid in a "you probably shouldn't be going back to work and talking to people after this" sort of way. My guy and I had been looking for an impressive meal for a while, and we finally got one here! So many places lately have been so disappointing, but this one definitely impressed us with their food! My guy and I generally go for sports bars, relaxed kind of places with a mix of burgers, sandwiches, salads, etc. We were being treated to this meal and wanted something a little bit more upscale but not totally over the top or expensive. This was a perfect balance of all that. Most of the dishes were in the high teens and $20 range, and they had a good range of salad, sandwich and entree too. We came here on a Saturday around 530. It was almost totally empty inside, but 75% full on the outdoor patio area. We had made a reservation through yelp to be safe. We were given water right away and were on our merry way. We decided to go for a cocktail for starters ($12-13). I had the "in between flights" which was a blend of bourbon, honey and grapefruit. It was really well balanced and refreshing. My guy had the "calder", which is their version of a manhattan? or old fashioned... I always get those confused... anywho, it was a large and lovely drink too. For entrees, I went for the watermelon farro salad and added steak ($10). The portion on this wasn't massive, but definitely satisfying! It's NOT a lettuce salad topped with farro. It was strictly farro, watermelon, basil, feta and steak with a dressing. The flavors were really unique and kept my tongue on alert! It was really different but excellent! The steak was so tender and good on it too! My guy had The Director entree- roasted chicken, grilled zucchini and polenta. Holy cow was his good too! I sampled some chicken and the polenta and both were totally knocked out of the park. He was able to finish it all but was full by the end of it. The Marq has become our go to spot for lunch meetings, work events and a place to catch a few minutes of a sporting event. The contemporary setting, the outdoor sitting area in the summer and the proximity to the loop's financial district are big pluses along with the solid food and drinks on the menu. I have been to the Marq over 20 time and hopefully the high standards would keep me a regular. The Mac and cheese, the Marq Burger and steak salad are great options. I recently tried the intern and it is now become one of my favorite items on their menu. I recently had a group of executives visit Chicago for an off-site meeting and searched for a restaurant that would accommodate 21 people without having a F&B minimum which is the situation at most restaurants with a group that size. It was conveniently located downtown which allowed my team the option to walk there vs. having to Uber, etc. I worked with Sean who was the most helpful and accommodating person to help meet our needs. Located in the Marquette Building...The fry that caught my eye... LOVE the french fries here and they go very well with a beer from their decent selection on a cold winter's night. I walk past here often and I was never one to catch a bite at the Marquette Diner so this place (being open 'til much later than the former business) was a sight for sore eyes and cold cheeks. I'm solid on a three-star rating...not sure about the four - I was stretching to give it to them for both the location and the service. My young server was personable and went out of his way to make sure I was happy. I always appreciate that. The food we had was good. My friend did take-out on the burger. I had the three-cheese grilled cheese which likewise, hit the spot though I don't care for it on foccacia. (The bread was slightly soggy.) Cool thing was that I'd taken half the sandwich home and nuked it the next day and surprisingly, it was much firmer and better. The ambience is light-toned-modern. It's nice and that's such a lame word as is the word "lame." But that's the take-away. It felt somehow "cafeteria-ish" to me. Maybe if there were votives or a small flower on the table. It didn't help that it was fairly empty on a freezing night; maybe what it was lacking was just a few more patrons as it's a decent sized space. The bar/tv area was the nucleus and the couple of groups of people who were dining were seated over there, but I felt like a window seat. It'll be great for watching passers-by when the temp isn't 20 degrees. All in all, I agree - great place for a drink, to warm-up and to have a bite and conveniently located across the street from Federal Plaza so I can finally remember to mail the birthday card I toted around all day. I stopped by to grab something to eat since I had been running around the city all day. You walk in through revolving doors and are instantly welcomed by the host. The atmosphere is welcoming. You don't realize how big the space is because the bar is kind of hidden by a wall in the middle of the restaurant. The service was really fast, too. I'm not all too sure about their menu, but they had a special menu for the St. Patrick's Day Parade that was on Michigan Ave (The Marq is just a few minutes walk from Michigan). I ordered The Marq Burger. The burger was really good. But the bun was a little stale. The fries were definitely good as well. I'd recommend eating the burger with the fork and knife because it can get really messy. It was very juicy, and I ordered mine medium rare. At first the front staff were discouraging as we did not make reservations at 6pm on a Thursday night, and said they were looking at a two hour wait, but then, the man at the welcome desk personally found us a spot at the bar as people were walking out. The vibe went from "too good for you" (the vibe I got from the ladies) to "you're welcome here" (the nice man who tried so hard to get us a spot... he went out of his way). I sat at the bar intending to order a beer and dinner. The bartender has a bit of an attitude so I only ordered a beer. The price on the menu for the beer I ordered, Belgian wheat, allagash white is priced at $7 on the menu, the bartender took my $10 and only brought back $2. Kept $1 for himself. Maybe that's normal practice in Chicago but I think it's more like theft. The crooked bartender's name is Andrew. I received a message from the owner of the Marq. He explained that the bartender did not steal my $1, he said that my change would have been $0.26 after tax but they have a policy to round all change up to the nearest dollar. Still seems like thievery but they must have different laws in Chicago. It is also policy not to give a receipt if someone orders only 1 drink at the bar, which means people unfamiliar with their policies would never know where their change went or about the tax. The owner did inform me that going forward they will be providing receipts and round up to the nearest quarter ($0.25). However, not giving the full amount of change due still seems a lot like theft to me, but I'm not a lawyer. I wonder how that put that in their books, misc. revenue? Or do the bartenders pocket the little change. read more

I came here on a Friday night after work and had a wonderful experience. The host was welcoming and even though it was packed my friend and I were seated quickly. Our server was super friendly and had a lot of knowledge on the beer and wine lists. I had the burger, which was so delicious and cooked perfectly. The brioche bun pulled everything together. My friend had the mac and cheese with pork belly, which I'll definitely get next time. During dinner the manager stopped by our table to check on us, which was very friendly and appreciated. The music was fun and the atmosphere was great-nice/casual and upbeat. It's a great place to hang out in for a while at the bar. I stopped by the Marq due to its proximity from my hotel, and it was raining, so I was too lazy to venture out farther. I started with a sazerac which is always a risky order at an unknown bar. Thankfully it was perfect- light on the absinthe with lemon peel. They have several interesting selections for drinks on their fall menu, including one a butterscotch pumpkin rum combination and a twist on an old fashioned with maple syrup, walnut bitters, and chocolate ganache dipped bacon. I was still recovering from a late lunch, so I ate several starters. The whipped ricotta with honey and balsamic glaze was unbelievable. I also picked at a house salad. It was unexpected with frisée, Peruvian potatoes, and green beans. I enjoyed the combination. The atmosphere is relaxed with a subtle industrial theme. Located across the Federal Plaza (walking distance from the Willis Tower), the Marq was pretty busy with office people on a cold Friday afternoon. Nevertheless, the service was friendly and fast. I was dying to get the recommended Salmon BLT, but unfortunately they were out of it (it was around 1 pm). So I ordered The Intern (sirloin on wheat bread with roasted peppers and mushrooms, caramelized onions, and chimichurri with fries) and pea soup instead. The Intern was very tasty and filling, but the fries were too salty for my taste. The pea soup was meh, it was good to warm me up on a cold day but not good enough for me to reorder. Since I was on vacation, I also ordered a drink - From Rio to Goa - boy was it strong! It wasn't bad, just a lot stronger than I anticipated. My server, Migee, was super awesome and adjusted my total even though I returned the drink. The Marq has a modern comfortable look to it and I absolutely loved the credit card holders (pictured). Was in Chicago for business and decided to get dinner at The Marq because it was highly rated on Yelp and close to my hotel. This was seriously one of the best meals I've had in a long time, and it was low carb! I had the Fried Brussel Sprouts appetizer which was delicious, followed by the Scallops entree, which came with short rib as well. I've never even heard of celery root purée, but it was delicious! Went here on my last day of the trimester at DePaul as a gift to myself. Once you walk up they do have seating outside but I chose to sit inside cause it was hot outside. I said at a table and was greeted by a wonderful, sweet woman named Shannon. I ordered lagunitas and the Executive to start off. The manager came over and talked to me about different kinds of IPAs beer they carry and he recommended one for me so I figured I would give it a try. Muncipal IPA. (Very similar to Lagunitas but a less bitter) The Executive sirloin steak was cooked to a perfect medium and had this very distinct chimichurri sauce. Wonderful. I tried different soups after this the Chef's Soup and the Green Pea Soup. The Chef's Soup I can't remember the name was boiled in pork and bones and had all different kinds of vegetables. The Marq's responsive and generous service continues to make a loyal and retuning customer. This is besides being a great location for large group happy hours. Last week, a mixup with my large group reservation came up hours before the happy hour. I quickly got a hold of their managers who responded quickly and found a large space to hold my party. Beyond that, the managers greeted me when I arrived and apologized for the mixup by providing a generous spread of free appetizers. The Marq is one of those rare places that truly cares about and goes out of their way for their customers. And of course, their great food and drink goes recognized as well! read more

Highly rated restaurant, and ribs or a. Urged sounded good, so I decided to check it out. Ordered the Marq burger plus bacon, egg, and carmelized onion. Couldn't order medium rare as they use thin patties. Also ordered the papas diabla. Presentation was great on both - the house pickles were tasty, but took them off the burger to eat on the side. The bacon was cooked perfectly, the egg looked perfect (sunny side up, very messy to eat). Overall though, I was disappointed in the $20 burger - in part because I generally thick burgers cooked medium rare to thin patties (should have considered that when ordering). But also, it was pretty salty with nothing but the aioli or whatever they put on by default. I try to eat burgers as-is first to see how they are that way before adding condiments - I asked for some ketchup to eat it with to balance the saltiness with some sweetness. The papas looked great, though I found the greens they added for garnish didn't go well with the rest. With "diabla" in the name and some chipotle in the sauce, I was hoping for a little heat, but there was none to my taste - perhaps offset by the cheese and cream in the sauce. This was ok. I was expecting these to be $8 or so, but they gave me a side portion by default for a couple dollars. That portion was more than enough for me with the burger. I wouldn't order either of these items if I come back, and I may to try the ribs, which definitely sounded good too... My personal preferences don't seem to line up with the general reviews in this case - but give the burger a try if you think my description above sounds good! read more

I have been to The Marq four times and I love it! My go-to's to order usually start with the Ahi Tuna Poke, or the Bruschetta (both fantastic and fresh). They always have good craft beers, I prefer Off Color's Saison called the Apex. Depending upon my appetite, I'll order one of two things, the Burger, Or the Poached Pear salad. This burger is easily the best burger on the block, and even the loop in general, so juicy! The decor is real modern, I'm a huge fan of the wood everywhere and front lobby chill spot (my guest was late). I'd definitely recommend for lunch/happy hour or dinner! read more
