The service here was immaculate--easily the highlight of the entire experience. Attentive without being overbearing, the staff truly elevated the night. We ordered a spread: the wagyu burger, short rib stroganoff, truffle mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, elote-style corn, fries, and the hot fudge sundae royale, paired with Kir Royales. Every dish delivered. The short ribs quite literally melted in your mouth, rich and perfectly cooked. The wagyu burger was everything you'd expect--tender, juicy, and indulgent. Also the ice cream was amazing! The standout for the table, though, was the Brussels sprouts--crispy, flavorful, and gone within minutes. Reservations are notoriously hard to secure, but if you're willing to take a chance, try your luck at the bar. It's absolutely worth it.

Bavette's definitely deserves more than 5 stars. You can never go wrong with anything you order and the service is phenomenal. I think of Bavette's ALL the time, ever since I tried it, I feel like I can't find another restaurant like it. Reservations are definitely hard to book, but it is worth the trouble. We went here for my partner's birthday and everything about it was perfect. The steak, the sides, and even the dessert were lovely. The restaurant is beautifully lit with intimate seating. We definitely feel very special for this very special occasion. The server (forgot his name) was so kind, he made sure we understood the menu and gave us his personal recommendations. Would love to come here again, perhaps for another special occasion. I will always think of Bavette's P.S. The food was so good that I forgot to take photos of the other dishes we had. Bavette's had the best mashed potatoes ever

Scoring a table at Bavette's is no freaking joke but by golly WE DID IT! Well, my husband did for our 5 year anniversary. The hype is well deserved. We had a wonderful evening! The space is soooo beautiful. It was a raining when we came which was perfect for the dark and moody vibes inside. We started out with rose and oysters -- a perfect combo! We also did a half of the wedge salad. The bacon in here? Unreal. I decided to go with the Chicago cut ribeye and got it medium rare. It was actually cooked a little closer to medium but was so, so good. The crust on top was top tier. For sides we got the butter mashed potatoes and asparagus. The mashed potatoes are a MUST, where the asparagus was pretty standard. We also ordered the sourdough with was just spectacular. It was at this moment we realized we ordered way too much food, but we couldn't leave without trying a dessert. We got the chocolate cream pie which was absolutely decadent and heavenly. 10/10 worth the hype. Hopefully we can get a table here again one day!

Is it possible to give a place 6 stars?? Bavette's is officially in my top five favorite dining experiences ever.... And trust me, I don't say that lightly. Everything was amazing, but the standout dishes for us were the crab cake, creamed spinach (OMG! The blue cheese and onion were insane), thick cut bacon, and the dry-aged bone-in ribeye with roasted garlic. The service was excellent, and they don't rush you out the door. So many places make you feel like you're on a timer, but we were able to relax after our meal with no pressure. I'd highly recommend booking a reservation for the parlor downstairs. It has a speakeasy vibe with more space and less noise than the upstairs seating. Perfect for a date night.

Bavette's is a must try in Chicago. I snagged the last open seat at the bar and could not have had a better experience. It is an old school steakhouse vibe with low lights but not too dark so that you can't see. The bartenders were friendly and welcoming, and the full menu is served at the bar. The chopped chicken liver was INCREDIBLE. The texture, the flavor, the accoutrements. The ribeye steak frites were also incredible - the garlic aioli was incredible. The steak was cooked perfectly and the béarnaise was the perfect accompaniment. The drinks were delicious as well. What an incredible meal!!

Got a reservation for dinner, which apparently is both hard to get at a decent hour and is a requirement. So many people want to go here that you'll have very little luck as a walk-in. Supposedly one of the best steakhouses in Chicago, Bavette's does indeed serve a well crafted menu in a dim but well-appointed interior. The ribeye steak was perfectly cooked as was the thick cut bacon. The fudge sundae to end was also great and came with an assortment of toppings on the bottom dish, a big hit with the kids. But the real standout of Bavette's is the top level service. From the host to the servers and wait staff, all were attentive and never kept you waiting long or needing for anything. The dishes all came out very fast too, we even added a dish after initial ordering and it too came with lightning speed.

I won't say anything that hasn't already been said in reviews before. Service was phenomenal (shout out to Erik) and food was stellar. We got the sourdough (half order), lyonnaise salad, wagyu burger, bone in ribeye and lemon meringue pie. Everything was exceptional! Difficult to make reservations during popular times but if you're able to snag one I highly recommend as walking in is tough to get seating. Ambiance is an old school vibe.

Always a treat to dine here! It's expensive but in my opinion it's the only place that gives you portions that match your buck! Gorgeous presentation, incredible ambiance, beautiful service! This is the spot to go if you are celebrating someone or something special or need to impress some work colleagues! You can't leave disappointed it's impossible! I have been here countless times! Was in town for pleasure and business and decided to try this spot after hearing so many great recommendations. When I arrived the line was out the door so I recommend making a reservation or come early. Since it was so packed, I ended up sitting at the bar, which turned out to be a great experience. I ordered the waygu burger and definitely recommend adding lettuce, tomato, bacon and a egg which really takes the burger to another level. I also ordered the fries and that were cooked perfectly, and a salad, to make it seem as if I was making healthy choices lol. The total cost of the burger was around $50 but totally worth it. I would definitely try this place when I'm back in Chicago.

As good as they say tbh - very yummy ribeye steak frites, heavenly truffle mac, delightful sourdough with perfect lil butter. The fried chicken is missable imo but the steak is definitely worth it. Immaculate vibes, very attentive service, good drinkies. Would return.

Bavette's was amazing! Walked in on a Tuesday and only waited about an hour for a table. The ambiance is dark and intimate, with vintage décor and low lighting that set the mood without feeling stuffy. Service was very attentive and the staff were very knowledgeable about the menu. The steak was amazing, cooked with a perfect sear and rich, buttery flavor. Everything was delicious! Overall, it's a full experience that feels elevated yet comfortable--well deserving of the hype. Reservations were tough but I was glad to be able to do a walk in!

Bavette's earned its spot as one of the best steaks in the city for a reason. Every cut on the menu is solid and every bite is savory it lives up to the reputation. Got to celebrate a friend's birthday here and the space delivered on all fronts. Dim lit speakeasy, bar, restaurant vibes all in one and they can accommodate whether you have a reservation or not(be willing to wait). Service was great and the old fashioned was on point. Would absolutely return for that steak again. -Mr.

The restaurant had a comfortable, intimate atmosphere with soft, low lighting. The service was seamless, explained the menu well, help made decisions and suggestions. Everything ordered was given its proper time to enjoy. Started off with the small portion of the sourdough bread. Fresh and hot! Next was the mixed greens and apple salad. Simple, fresh lite dressing and crispy. This was also shared. Next was the short rib stroganoff, the short rib was very tender, perfectly cooked. Great flavor. Finished the dinner with 6 oz filet mignon. Medium, cooked perfectly , tender meat. Highly recommend. Along with the brussel sprouts and the sweet potatoes. Both had great flavors and are easy shareable. The thick cut bacon was mouthwatering . The desserts were good. The chocolate pie and the crème brûlée. If you were to skip on dessert you wouldn't be missing out. The cocktails were delicious. I recommend the bees knees and the Lillet Rosé.

Ask the Community - Bavette's Bar & Boeuf

What dollar amount would you suggest for a gift certificate for two people (non drinkers)?

    $200

    I booked a table for 5, if I have 6 guests will they seat me? I don't see how a table for 5 can't seat 6 people.

Because that would require they take a chair from a table that's fully booked and create a fire hazard in the limited walkway. No.

My friend and I have a reservation at 9:15, I'll be able to make it on time but they are running late. Will they still seat me and allow me to wait?

No. They won't seat you until your whole party is present. They will have you wait in the waiting area until the rest of your party arrives!

Other than the way it's cut and the size, is there a difference between the chicago cut 16oz ribeye vs. the 10oz ribeye frites?

Nah not really. Definitely get the Chicago cut. Or even better, the 22oz dry aged one. That one is insane and aged for 46 days

Besides the corkage fee are there any other fees added to your bill such as credit card use?

No there hasn't since the last time I dined in which was a couple of months ago

It's small or large. Small is shared for 2 as a side/app. Large cab be shared by 3-4 as a side. Small can be sized for an entree, especially with their sourdough bread. If you are going carb/gluten free, small may not be enough for an entree

Can they spilt the check between 3 people?

Did you try calling after 4:30pm? They're not open for lunch so make sure you call during their hours.

    Are there outdoor heaters?

Yes, I saw plenty of outdoor heaters!

Can you still BYOB during COVID?

Per Bavette's reservation site, "During this time of reduced occupancy for our restaurant, there is a $50 corkage fee per 750 ml bottle of wine."

Would you recommend this place for a couple to celebrate a birthday?

    absolutely.....please go.you,ll love it.

Yes they are its upscale casual

We tried several appetizers; the Hamachi Cone, Caviar Cone, Asian Taco, Neptune's Pillows, Shrimp Cocktail and Iberico Jamon. We also shared a bottle of Cava. Everything was fine but to be frank the Shrimp Cocktail was the best thing we ate, simple and perfectly fresh. The service was pushy, when a server wants to take you order less than 3 minutes after sitting down, it feels like you're on a conveyor belt. We felt the prices were way out of line, with tip I spent almost $500 for a bottle of cava and appetizers for two people, for that, the food should have been more memorable. We spent the same amount for two off us to have the 12 course tasting menu at Atsumeru a couple of weeks ago and Bar Mar's food isn't in the same league. I asked the hostess if there was a menu for my husband. She looked up the reservation, said "no and it's probably too late to make one". (Although we were half an hour early having drinks at the bar.) Then she stated that they had a generic birthday menu that they could give him with no attempts to try and provide what was requested ahead of time. We were sat at an extremely small table and he was provided a regular menu which was given to him per the directive of said hostess. The manager came to the table to greet us as I'm assuming the sever was behind. I spoke to him about the menu and he asked if I made the request along with the reservation and I told him that I did. He said that he needed to verify. After doing so he came back and agreed that I had and said happy birthday to my husband and offered us a half a glass of "bubbly" which we reluctantly accepted. Then everyone went on as if nothing happened. We didn't receive an apology. There was no offer to satisfy us in any other way. (A decent table upgrade would have been nice,) Then I see the same glass of champagne wing offered to another couple celebrating a birthday while sitting in a large booth. There was a large table next to us with a couple celebrating an anniversary. Then a younger couple came in and was told to choose a table wherever they would like. The food was great.
