I really appreciated that the artist sent me a calendar invite for our appointment with detailed directions on where to park. His name is Tony King. I'm honestly blown away with Tony's work! I have a lot of tattoos and not only is the line work stellar but he has such a light hand. I mean, don't get me wrong, tattoos hurt but out of alllll the tattoos I've gotten, he had one of the lightest hands but was still holding my arm still. I have three tattoos already and have started to search for artists for a new one. The art on the walls is beautiful; whoever drew it must be really talented. However I would never know because the customer service in here is obscene and appalling. The jerk behind the bar barely looked up from his phone to answer my questions and when he did he was rude and condescending. Um, you're a tattoo artist in an empty tattoo parlor. It was uncomfortable to be in there and I could see why this place was empty of any customers after my interaction with the "employees " in there. Rosie, the only woman behind the counter, and the only one with any sense of business or customer service was brave and sweet and amazing and is totally worthy of new business. Just finished getting a cover up tattoo with Dylan. He's really good at what he does and makes you feel comfortable as he works with you. I love my cover up, I'll share a picture when it's healed. I am embarrassed to even write a review even though I know I shouldn't. I'm not one to complain so this one took everything in me to write. I went to this shop since my cousin, who also does tattoos, recommended it to me. Rosie had some of the best work I have seen in so long! I was so excited and giddy when she responded to my email. Let me just say before I get into it that I asked if I should come in to get a quote, this is months before my actual appointment and she said it's not necessary. Usually I come in so the artist sees the space they're working with. The piece I wanted was a pinup of a woman wearing a traditional dress in my culture. Fast forward to the day of my appointment the spot I wanted it was a really awkward spot and she refused to do it on there, fair I get it! It was totally an awkward position for what she drew up which was an amazing piece by the way. I kept trying to shoot suggestions because I really wanted to get tattooed by her and I requested the day off just to get this done. I asked if we can just do half of the woman torso up since the traditional dress is known for its sleeves it would still hold the same weight. Mind you I brought the sleeves to wear after I got this tattoo. It was going to be a really special one. To my disappointment every single suggestion I was shooting at was being shot down. I even asked if I can get the piece on my back since I have no tattoos at all back there but she responded with pinups only being on the legs or arms. I have never heard of that one before. I was so uncomfortable and still really wanted a piece that I ended up settling with something completely different from what I originally came in there for. My partner was in there with me and witnessed my entire interaction with her. He was so upset with how I was being treated and the responses I was getting. What was pretty upsetting was seeing her post work she did of half a woman torso up so it left me wondering why that suggestion I suggested got shot down. There was just no flexibility or willing to work with me I got. I was still thinking of going back after that day but the way I was treated was heartbreaking. I'm not one to complain at all but this was a pretty disappointing experience to say the least. I'm not sure if it was just a one off day for her but it made me never want to come back to this shop. I really wanted to make it my new shop I go to since the one I've been going to since 2015 no longer is up. Personally for me it's a one star but I still recommend the shop since literally all the artists' work including Rosie's is amazing. I would just recommend going in if you're doubting the space you have to work with. I just wanted to share my experience. read more

This place is alright. They do one thing, traditional style tattoos. I felt as if it was an inconvenience for me to be in an empty shop. I dealt with 3 different individuals, two over the phone and one in person in the shop, all three were unhelpful. The tattoo i got is okey. The after care advice i was given was completely wrong. Anybody in the tattoo game knows you do not leave a bandage on your fresh tattoo over night. Thanks for that infection. This place is pricey and would be perfect if it were still 1995. Thanks for the infection and the scarred skin Martlett Tattoo. As I am leaving trying to set up another appointment, the artist tells me, "if you have money you can get tattoos, that's how it works." Long overdue update. Went back and got my OWN tattoo from Bryce. A Thoreau quote in my mother's handwriting wrapped around my wrist. It took about an hour and a half and two visits to get it placed right but it was worth it. It looks perfect and he nailed every stroke of her handwriting. Wow, what a great tattoo shop. I had a tattoo that I had been unhappy with for quite a while. I had been to a couple of different places trying to figure out a solution. Most places didn't seem willing to spend the time to work with me and help me figure out exactly how to fix it. After reading the great reviews on this place I decided to give it a try. I met Bryce and immediately felt comfortable and confident that he could help me. He took the time to really look at my tattoo and listen to what I didn't like about it. I felt so good about his abilities I made an appointment for the next day. When I arrived the next day he was ready and on time. He and I worked on a couple different designs. He is very talented and artistic and the tattoo he drew up was pretty amazing. I never felt rushed or pressured and I felt like he wanted me to be happy and he wanted to get it right so I looked good. Finally, I decided on the final design and he went to work tattooing me. Everything ws clean and professional. When it was finished, I looked in the mirror and was so happy! What a relief to have my bad tattoo fixed. A few hours later at home when I took off the plastic wrap and cleaned the tattoo I was even more excited! Upon closer inspection I could see this tattoo was simply amazing. The way he blended it into my older piece and made them all look like one tattoo that was all done at one time was amazing. I have definitely found my new favorite tattoo artist in LA. Just left this spot which I was visiting an old friend of mine, Dylan. I finally had some down time to come out and get some work done! Dylan is a long time buddy of mine and it's always a rad time getting work done by him. The shop was well maintained and ridiculously clean. Back in January I was looking for a tattoo shop in my neighborhood (Los Feliz) and found The Martlet on Yelp. Checked out the shop instagram and all of their work was amazing. I emailed Bryce and ended up getting one of his paintings tattooed on my leg that day. He was flexible and let me break the tattoo up in to two sessions. The tattoo was black and blue ink, the blue healed great, but a little bit of the black healed spotty (which has happened to almost all of my black ink tattoos) and Bryce was more than happy to touch it up for me (for free). Then I went back for a second tattoo but had no idea what I wanted, so I asked for something floral and girly and Bryce drew up a little bouquet of three flowers, I ended up getting it in a kind of weird location and underestimated how painful it would be. Bryce was super patient and kept checking on me throughout the entire tattoo. The vibe of the place is great, really low key and approachable. I just got my very first tattoo done here and I love it! It was a simple design, but was executed perfectly and I couldn't be happier. I was recommended this place from a friend who has been several times. The guy that did my piece was actually a "guest" artist from Ventura, but certainly lived up to the shops reputation. He calmly worked with me and gave me exactly what I wanted, even though some of my requests were against the tattoo norm. I will surely be back here for my second if that time should come. P.S.
