My best friend and I dropped-in on New Year's Eve for a pair of matching tattoos. I moved to the area (transplant of the Bay Area) and haven't found a resident tattoo artist in the area. My friend did a Google search and found this place -- and it didn't disappoint. Rob graciously greeted us and got us settled, and June was our tattoo artist. After completing some necessary paperwork, I was pleased to find that June had drew up some pieces for us to consider based off the info we provided over the phone. Her art was WAY better than what I pulled up on Google image...that's for sure! She snapped photos of where we wanted the art, imposed the art digitally on the photos -- a huge improvement for me since I last got a tattoo over 15 years ago! I appreciate her style, thorough consultation, and gentle touch with the needle. The studio is incredibly clean, has beautiful artwork throughout, and is simply a vibe. There is parking in the back of the shop. You can pay in cash or by Zelle or Venmo (another major convenience). I walk by Fig Leaf all the time and have always wanted to receive a tattoo from one of their incredibly talented artists. This last week we said goodbye to my pup and wanted a tattoo to commemorate her. Within the hour of calling for info, we were able to walk in and work with June. Even for such simple designs, she took her time with us and made sure we were happy with the final outcome. I love mine so much! My Bestie and I finally pulled the rip cord and got our matching tattoos!!! He lives down in the LA area and I was visiting for NYE, not knowing where to go I jumped on the Google and searched. Found this place and loved that it said it was female friendly as well as queer friendly. They also said walk ins welcomed. So I jumped in the phone and called, they asked what we were looking for then said they could take us both at 1:00. We pulled up to the cutest little place with parking in the back. Walked in and the vibe was chill and inviting. Being lead to the consultation area and doing the paper work everything just seemed right. When the arrest came out she already had some sketches done. In less than 2 hours we both had our new ink and were so happy with it. The shop was super clean, the staff was helpful and considerate, the artist was AMAZING! I've wanted a tattoo for years but it wasn't until I came across June's work on an LA Times article did I find an artist whose work and style I felt was in line with what I imagined or wanted on my body. It took several months before I could book an appointment as she's clearly highly sought after and her books get booked well in advance. When I did get a booking confirmed, I was slightly concerned about the fact that I wouldn't see her final sketch until the day of. I've never had a tattoo before and I was really worried I wouldn't like what she presented. I expressed my concerns in our email communications and they assured me I would have the chance to give feedback and modify as needed. When my appointment came around, I was impressed at how welcoming and beautiful the studio was. I even commented that if tattoo shops looked this nice maybe I would have gotten a tattoo earlier in my 20s. And as for my worries about not liking the final sketch, turns out, I didn't really need to worry. June took the time to talk through multiple options and variations in terms of location, size, layout and final look of the tattoo. The actual tattooing took only a little over an hour but we actually spent a full hour finalizing the design and placement. They provide excellent instructions and follow-up regarding aftercare and I had no issues at all. When I reached out to them because I felt a section of the tattoo did not heal as well as the rest and I felt it needed some color touch up they scheduled me to come in without hesitation. As a result I got to see the new and larger studio in the current location. It's now been 10 months and it never fails, every time I go out and my tattoo is visible someone compliments me on my tattoo. They are often impressed at how delicate it looks and at the unique watercolor style. Quite a few have even asked for June's info. I'm personally beyond thrilled at how it came out and my close friends have all remarked at how well it reflects me and my style/personality even without knowing what each part of the tattoo symbolizes. In case it's not obvious, I simply cannot recommend June enough! If I ever want another tattoo again, it's going to have to be from her! read more

I had been following June's tattoo instagram account for over a year, and had been wanting to get my first big tattoo in her signature colorful, botanical style, but was a bit nervous. I finally went ahead and booked a virtual consultation (being in San Diego). From the very beginning of the process, submitting the request to book, through the consultation itself, and coming in to get the tattoo, I had the most amazing experience. I felt comfortable that I was in the hands of the best team at this shop. Rob was super responsive with scheduling and questions. June created a beautiful design based on my references and feedback and added little touches that made it even better. When I showed up to my appointment, I was a little anxious, but it was such a cozy, beautiful studio and I felt welcomed and at ease by Rob and June. June took such great care to cover up the scars I wanted covered and make it look beautiful and flow well with the natural curves of my leg, and made sure I was comfortable throughout. After she finished her work, she brought out the professional camera to get the best pictures possible and promptly sent them to me the same night. You can tell she takes pride in her work (as she should!) I will absolutely be back for more tattoos in the future, and maybe add more to my leg sleeve. Erica designed and tattooed my newest and largest tattoo yet, and I love it! It was important to me to find a woman of color tattoo artist whose style I liked, so when Rob sent me a few options for artists after seeing my reference photos, I was excited to find Erica. I wanted a sunflower, poppies tattoo, and Erica's botanical/floral work is beautiful. She was very receptive to my feedback about little adjustments and added details. I really appreciated her considerations about the longevity and future of the tattoo (things I didn't know to think about), so we went with a larger size. She was also very patient as I decided (I was nervous, since this was my biggest tattoo), and they ensured I was comfortable before we started the session. I got my first professional tattoo in 1971, so I have been doing this for a while. This was my first visit to FigLeaf. Based on the type of tattoo I was looking for, they suggested I might want to work with Ian. We had an initial consultation where we discussed what I wanted vs. what would work. I wanted a piece that covered my entire upper right arm. Unfortunately my arm was not big enough for what I was envisioning. Ian made some changes to the design to accommodate my arm. I liked his suggestion so I booked a session. When I get work done, I usually pay by the piece being done. They quote a price and then we agree. This is the first time I had someone who charges by the hour. I have to admit I was a bit worried. What is to stop him from going really slow and running up the bill? NOPE. I sat for 4.5 hours. In that time he tattooed an image that went from my shoulder to my elbow. He finished the outline and started on the color. I go back next month to finish the color and any touch ups. Ian has a very light touch and draws one of the thinnest lines I've ever seen. That's my personal mark for a talented artist. The thinner the lines, the better the tattoo artist is. Just my opinion. I really recommend Fig Leaf Tattoo and of course Ian. They have several different types and styles of tattoos and they are located in a cool old Victorian house in Highland Park. I visited Fig Leaf this weekend for a flash tattoo/craft fair event they were having. First off, the space is BEAUTIFUL. It had a calming and warm vibe which I feel like sometimes isn't the case for tattoo shops. Rob and his wife were absolutely lovely. I've been waiting to get tattooed for a few years, and finally was set on what I wanted to get this year - only issue is I didn't know which tattoo shop to go to. I randomly came across Claire's instagram (@sleepy_ringo_) a few weeks ago, saw her work and knew I wanted to get my first tattoos done by her. The process to make an appointment was so quick and easy, very efficient, and they responded almost immediately to my questions/concerns! The second I met Claire, I knew that I made the right decision picking her. She was so incredibly sweet and patient with my ideas and changes to my tattoos. As this was my first time getting tattoos, I let her know I was incredibly nervous -- but my experience was better than I could have imagined. Claire made sure I was comfortable, we chatted about all things and I really felt like I was just sitting with a friend (that was scratching me) hahaha. I really loved that she made sure the placement was perfect, especially for the tattoo that I couldn't see very well on the back of my arm. She really took her time with my tattoos, which I appreciated immensely, and talked me through each step in the process. The pain level was a mild 3-4, 5 being the longer lines, but it lasted less than a few seconds. I am so happy to say that my experience was so comfortable, even while waiting in the seating area, everyone would ask if I needed any water or tea - making sure I was fine. I think the highlight of my experience was being able to squeal and be so happy about the end results of the tattoos WITH Claire! She was so happy for me and, throughout the process, kept telling me how cute the tattoos were. I can't speak highly enough about Claire -- I'm so glad I got to work with her. Onto the shop itself, it's very modern and brightly decorated with different colors all around. Super welcoming environment and a decent amount of seating area.
