My partner and I decided to mark our wedding with simple tattoos on our ring fingers: AMOR split between us, "AM" on one hand and "OR" on the other. We went to St. Marks Tattoo, showed them the exact font we wanted, and were assured it wouldn't be a problem. They used the same transfer paper for both of us, but assigned two different artists. Mine came out close to the stencil (still not great), but my husband's was nothing like it--thick, uneven, and not matching mine at all. He tried to brush it off, but a few days later the lettering was visibly blown out. When we called the shop, we were met with dismissive customer service. The manager himself admitted the tattoo looked "f***** up," then blamed it on the difficulty of tattooing fingers. No refund, no solution, just excuses. For reference: if you Google "tattoo blowout finger," you'll see it happens when ink is pushed too deep or at the wrong angle, causing it to spread under the skin. It's usually a sign of inexperience or heavy-handed technique. So, consider this a warning. If they can't manage clean, simple lettering on a finger, I wouldn't trust them with anything more complicated. This was supposed to symbolize our marriage. Instead, we got a permanent reminder of their incompetence. read more

Joshua, a.k.a J-man did a matching tattoo project for my son & I. Our concept was very original on to itself, but that was no problem for Joshua. He absolutely killed the artwork, in the exact "style" my son requested. Both tattoos turned out as a mirror image of each other, and were the perfect size/colors to wrap around our calves. The vibe in their shop was so cool, the music was old school, & the process was quick and "to the point". The other guys there were gentleman as well. I had an appointment but when I showed up he wasn't there. I scheduled the appt via email and made a deposit as requested, but I didn't label the PayPal exactly how he wanted so somehow the appointment didn't exist. I made a new appointment and when I asked if the same deposit would carry over, I heard him talking to the front desk person on the phone and he said "yeah, that's fine, I'll just charge him more for the tattoo". I should have never come back but I'm an idiot and I did. On my second appointment, I pointed to a piece of his flash on the wall and he just refused to do it. I finally picked one he would do and when it came to placement, we agreed on a spot, but when he put the stencil on it was crooked and 2"-3" off. He did this two more times, each one wildly different and off. He was getting visibly annoyed and I finally just agreed to the weird spot he chose; I didn't want to upset the person who would be putting something on me permanently. I could tell he was pissed and when he was tattooing me he dug into my skin so bad that now have raised scars from the lines. All said and done, he charged me $600 total for a palm sized tattoo. I had been tattooed by him before and it was a weird experience, but I got what I wanted and the price was reasonable. At that appointment he said his tooth hurt so it helped to rub cocaine on his gums. Lastly, he will tell you to put saran wrap on the tattoo which is totally fine the first night as it weeps. Thing is, he tells you to put saran wrap on it again after you wash it and to just keep washing and putting saran wrap on it with no ointment. This is the absolute best way to get a bacterial infection. Not letting a "wound" (and it will be a wound when he's done with you) breath creates a breeding ground for bacteria. The tegaderm healing method is the same process but it breathes and won't give you an infection. I'm getting the tattoo removed just because of the terrible experience I had. I want it to just be wiped from my memory. He is over-hyped, over-priced, and extremely temperamental. There are a lot of other tattooers that can do dark traditional work that don't come with the drama. I really hope no one else goes to him and experiences this. I'm sure there are hundreds of other people who had a similar experience but haven't done something petty like me and posted a Yelp review. Just trying to help anyone who reads this. read more

I recently got a tattoo with Joshua Marks. I had to wait 2 weeks for the first available appointment and give a $100 deposit. When I got there there was no record of my appointment and I had to wait for an hour. He worked really fast and was done with my hand in less than hour, it was $500 plus tip. There were a couple spots that needed to be touched up after the healing, when I went back he refused to do it at first because he didn't want to do it, when I Insisted he begrudgingly did it and was not very nice about it. I've never done two in a row like that which was rough, but Sebastian was great and I could tell he really cared about the work he does. WARNING!!!! DO NOT GET TATTOOED AT ST MARKS TATTOO SHOP!!!!!!! Unless you like getting f**ked over and lied to DO NOT get a tattoo from St Marks Tattoo!! I went to get a tattoo at St Marks tattoo and had a HORRIBLE experience! I found out that the artist who tattooed me was on drugs and he completely messed up my tattoo!!! I spoke with the owner of the shop, Joshua Marks, who admitted that he had been warned about the artist's drug use. He told me that the tattoo was beyond repair and that I need to get it removed. He said he felt personally responsible for the entire situation and promised to pay for half of the tattoo removal costs and told me to get some quotes and come back to him so he could give me the money. After getting a few quotes I tried to get back in contact with him and he completely blew off my message. Finally after a week of ignoring me I was able to get him on the phone and he told me that he changed his mind and is not going to pay for any of the removal costs. He then went on to bully me over the phone raising his voice and calling me a child.. Not only did Joshua allow an artist on drugs to tattoo, he allowed the artist to tattoo in his shop without a body art practitioner certificate. Upon contacting the public health department I was made aware that Joshua himself does not even hold a current body art practitioner certificate and the shop does not have a public health permit!!!!! This shop owner is UNTRUSTWORTHY and a LIAR! BE WARNED!!! read more
