Came as part of my friend group's Gilmore Girls trip. Really beautiful space, nicely decorated, and I could definitely see a wedding or other special occasions being hosted here. There were plenty of parking spaces but it can be a bit stressful/tight at times due to the flow of traffic and the hill. Food was good, service was alright - our server wasn't rude but wasn't super friendly and just seemed a little disengaged. We are going all out with stars for two reasons. The staff are amazing. Friendly and on point to make you feel welcomed. The Burger. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to have a meal here. Executive chef April Bloomfield cracked the ball out of the park with this burger. It was the most delicious burger I have ever had in my life. She took juicy too 2.0 with this one. Auberge - get your act together. Stellar physical updates of the property bar none. Dining menu not so much. Those of us who have been coming for years have grown to love certain dishes, including the Bibb Salad, which you kept minus the blue cheese for $22, and the cavatelli, which apparently can't even be made upon special request. Seriously? You can't whip up pasta and tomato sauce? You are an Auberge resort. I kinda think this is doable. No more wonderful bread basket - really? Even the server said he missed it and they were "working on it". I was gonna stay this week for my birthday - about $1,000/night. Thank goodness I did not with this less than desirable food menu. Guys, I know you can do better. I used to frequent Auberge de Soleil in Napa when it first opened and let me tell you, they'd have whipped me up some pasta with red sauce in a heartbeat. Dining staff is very inexperienced. Lovely but inexperienced. Had I not been coming here since boarding school, I'd probably look elsewhere to go given the exquisite dining in the Litchfield Hills. Dining at the Mayflower was one of the last bastions of true, graceful fine dining. Sadly, that ship has sailed. It's not even all hip California vegan style either. Wow!! What a beautiful place!! We decided to visit the Mayflower after dinner one night for some drinks. We walked in and it was just stunning. It's a gorgeous inn- so beautifully decorated and luxurious. We walked into the bar area and were able to get a few seats. We ordered some fabulous drinks and actually decided to walk around the inn a bit. We sat in a small room off of the entrance and we were enjoying the fire and our drinks. A server came to assist us a few times which was lovely. We ordered a delicious dessert to share and it was just a perfect evening. Would definitely return to enjoy the restaurant or the bar again- perhaps when the weather permits sitting outdoors. This place is truly gorgeous. read more

A friend took me for birthday brunch. It was beautifully decorated. Celerie Kemble outdid herself (I work in the design industry ) When I made the reservation they asked if we had any food allergies. They brought my friend and I prosecco on the house to celebrate and customized my dessert. Excellent coffee. Bacon and potatoes are amazing. I had the fried chicken and slaw. It was good. We had the mudslide as a dessert which I liked a lot. They sat us at a special table because the two top was in bright glare. We ordered a green juice to go afterwards and sat by the fire in the sitting room to enjoy it. I really liked the feel of the place and the Tap Room seems like it would be great also. read more

Destination trip for the 40th birthday of yours truly. Visiting in the fall this is the perfect New England experience. The property is absolutely breathtaking and gorgeous. The decor is calm and serene but modern and youthful. Our room did not want us to leave with an incredibly comfortable bed, relaxing patio and fireplace. We spent an afternoon within the spa on property and enjoyed the experience thoroughly with my wife saying "it was the best massage of her life". The one drawback is that the menu at the restaurant was lacking and when you stay for multiple nights it becomes harder to find interesting dishes. They can definitely do better here. That being said it was not enough to taint our experience. Last but not least we loved the staff in all areas of the hotel. Amazing people. read more

This is absolutely breathtaking. Everywhere you look. As my son said, there's no way we're going to do it justice with our pictures or videos. He was right! The end is beautifully decorated and the restaurant area has been recently updated, Cory church server. We had brunch on Saturday and had a lovely seat overlooking the Shakespeare garden. I had the frittata with ricotta cheese. It was delicious! Perfectly cooked in an ample portion. I also had the half grapefruit with mint and sugar. It probably back to my childhood! My son had The bourbon French toast and I had a bite and it was absolutely so rich and delicious the bananas on top with a perfect complement! We shared a side of turkey bacon which was perfectly cooked. Our server was Meghan he was very friendly and had great suggestions. First, as to my culinary experience at the Mayflower Inn's Garden Room. Not particularly good with none of the offerings on the tasting menu particularly creative, tasty or memorable (let alone sublime), especially given the up to $300 per person charge (with wine pairing). Instead, for much better food at a much better value, try the tasting menus at either Arethusa al Tavolo in Bantam or Materia Retaurant in Litchfield.. Then there's management's concern for their customers at this "Auberge Resorts Collection." Fuhgedaboutit, there isn't any. When they double-charged me for my ($1000, 3 person) meal and I complained about that double-charge, it took two complaints, and two billing cycles, for them to finally correct their supposedly innocent error. And though I was promised, on my first complaint, that if the error was their fault, they would provide an additional credi to my account, they didn't. And when I sought to hold them to that promise, they ignored me. So, beware, if you've got an issue with the service at this "Auberge Resorts Collection", don't expect for them to even respond let alone treat you with any kind of respect. Instead, frankly, for them, it's clearly all about the benjamins. read more

Beautiful New England Inn!!! While enjoying our day exploring in (Stars Hollow) with our daughter we stopped in for an Excellent lunch on the patio. Service was top notch and our meal was also. Place is a complete waste of money - Auberge should be ashamed. You're better off flying to Europe, staying a week in the city or flushing 2k down the toilet as opposed to staying here for a night. My husband and I recently stayed for one night. We were greeted by a bellman who shamed us for asking for alcohol before 10am, met a person working at the spa who called me pregnant multiple times (I am not pregnant and was actively drinking the aforementioned alcohol). Kayaked in a dirty man made body of water that was no bigger than a pool and then waited for 3.5 hours for dinner (yes, we had a reservation). All while being bombarded by wedding guests who took over the "private" fire pits and walking trails. Our "upgraded" room features decor similar to that of my dead grandmas house and overlooked the parking lot. Our bathroom had zero privacy and was 100% in view of everyone walking through the lot. When we vocalized our concerns, the "head of guest experience" apologized while looking me up and down to see if I in fact was pregnant. They comped us $200 (Pennies on an overpriced room) and had the audacity to ignore an email I sent about the issues we experienced. Save your money and go ANYWHERE else! read more

What a wonderful, elegant and beautiful place. First class service, ambiance and standards all the way. My wife and I visited on a beautiful late August afternoon for a quiet birthday drink and light fare on the terrace. It could not have been nicer. In fact, the entire 2 hours we spent were truly spectacular in every respect. We each had a couple of vodka martinis and shared a couple of entrees, garden salad and chilled tomato soup along with olive bread and Parmesan bagel crisps. Wonderful escape very close to home. We feel welcomed and taken care of even though clearly not the most well off guests! The grounds are beautiful. The staff is attentive & very helpful. Decor all around is great... classic and modern at the same time. The accommodations are very well maintained & clean. Impeccable service all around... dining, bar, room, spa... excellent!! My husband had the crispy 1/2 chicken and I the salmon. Both perfectly cooked. The sides and apps were all delish. Salads dressed just right. Cappuccino strong and fluffy! Chocolate cake & ice cream rich and creamy. All of the dishes were amazing... a few more standouts were: chicken caesar salad, breakfast sausage, french toast, tomato soup, bolognese... just totally delicious. The spa was one of the best I've been to. Massages were amazing, the waiting/lounge room was a wonderful sanctuary, steam room delightful, ‍ sauna perfectly hot, yoga class an excellent treat, pool just right. The whole place is amazing. It breaks my heart to post a bad review of this elegant, beautiful place in the Litchfield Hills of CT. This has always been our go-to place for fine dining in a truly special setting (for 30+ years). The setting and the service remain top quality but, sadly the menu no longer represents fine dining for us. We never quarrel with prices if the choices and quality reflect those prices. There are very few entree choices on the menu and one is a hamburger and the other a fried fish sandwich. We thought we had mistakenly been give the lunch menu, but no, this is the dinner menu. I'm sorry but the elegance of former times is gone in this location. We'll be back but only if the menu and/or chef changes. To be clear: my review is for the restaurant only. We stopped in for lunch at my old favorite Mayflower Hotel that I used to frequent when I lived in Washington Depot. We ate in the cute little bar area and it all seemed familiar. Until the food came!! A lobster roll that is so easy to make delicious was bland - unseasoned bits of old lobster in a hot dog roll. A little mayo, mustard, lemon - all missing. My friend had the Beyond Burger - a plant based burger that I have cooked and eaten many times in other places. The bun was the overpowering presence and the burger was boring. ( This is the Mayflower!). No finesse here. The plates were piled high with fries or potato chips. The beets in the salad were rubbery. And all this for $92 Yes, it was Monday and maybe the secondary staff was on, but these things aren't hard to make tasty. read more

So sad. We used to visit here often over the last 10 years. Went to brunch on 10/2/22... so so different and not in a good way. They took the dining area down about 10 notches... everything was less than mediocre. Ok, I hope the Mayflower team will take this review constructively. It's meant to help improve the overall experience. My girlfriend and I had dinner at Mayflower on 5.23.18. Firstly, I commend the visual experience and physical appearance of the building and grounds. The place is beautiful. 5-stars. The staff is very welcoming, and also to be commended for their earnestness and intention to please. Where the experience dies is with the food. It's absolutely utterly forgettable. This menu would would be ok at $50/head, but this is a $100/head priced menu. Some details... Cocktails are $18. Ok, we're here for a special evening, so I get it, but if you're going to charge $18 for a cocktail, you better deliver a superlative dining experience. (The cocktail was perfectly fine, nothing special.) Onto the food. Firstly there was a single special offered, which I found unusual for a high-end dining experience. One would expect at least two special appetizers and entrees. I started the meal with the tomato soup, priced at $16. One expects a rich, full tomato soup, reflecting ripe, mature ingredients. I've never tasted tomato soup as tangy and tart as this one. It tasted as if it had been seasoned with lemon. It's billed as coming with "sourdough and aged chedder." This consists of one round crouton with cheese melted on it. It looked lonely, frankly, and it was, a small island at the side of the bowl. My date's corn soup (the special) was also on the tart side, not what you would expect from a soup made from ripe corn. Now granted when our waiter Peter checked in, I should have said something, I didn't, my bad. I just wasn't feeling it, and it was early in the meal, I thought I'd just roll with it. Next we shared the avocado toast, a rectangular piece of toast with a side of greens. The avocado was pureed to a thick paste, and piped onto the toast, with not a chuck of consistency remaining. Ok, that's a stylistic choice by the chef, but it wasn't to my taste, I found the mouthfeel pasty. It came with a slice of jalapeno which helped break it up. The greens were completely unseasoned, lacking character or impact. An afterthought. My date asked for bread twice before it came. Again that happens, I get it, but the dining room wasn't especially crowded, and at a restaurant positioned as high-end, you don't expect to need to ask twice. The bread server arrived, a nice young guy, who proceeded to explain the three types of bread. That would have been great, except this was our second serving of bread. The earlier bread server had already explained what each of the breads were. I don't know in my 50 years, that I've had the breads explained to me twice. It felt amateurish. For my entree, I had the cavatelli carbonara with broccoli raab. I like my pasta al dente, but this was hard, overly toothsome. I realize that every bowl of pasta is different, but I'd think when you serve a dish day-in and day-out, you get it perfect after awhile. If they intended the pasta to be so hard, it's a strange stylistic choice. My date got the roasted chicken, which I tasted. It was perfectly fine. Forgettable. We skipped dessert. The check came and was on or about $155, and had a place to add tip, prior to giving the credit card. I added a $30 tip and set up the leather holder on the table to pay. Again, this is a point where in a fine-dining experience, the waitstaff grabs the holder within 60 seconds. In this case it was a good 5 minutes. It's just surprising for this environment. When it came back, the base total had increased to about $175, and it was the same form, with place to leave tip. I presume they'd forgotten the cocktail and added it after I gave my card. I'm not sure. It was confusing, and I wasn't feeling it to ask. I just wanted to wrap up. We had a lovely time walking the beautiful grounds. I think Mayflower is coasting on reputation and the grounds. I don't know why anyone would make a special trip there for the food. It is entirely uninspired and forgettable, especially in the context of the cost. I hope the Mayflower team, especially the chef, will take this review as constructive and an opportunity to reinvent. I don't see how this menu will entice new diners to visit twice. read more

We walked in on a Fall day during Sunday brunch. We did not have a reservation but were seated immediately. Service was excellent. It's a nice brunch menu- I started off with a Bloody Mary-we shared a fruit plate . My husband had the Farmer's Omelette and I had the egg white frittata. My frittata was a little on the bland side but among the miniature onetime use condiments was a bottle of Tabasco! That helped! If weather permits, a walk outside is a must. The grounds are beautiful!!!! I can see why so many escape the city to come to this quiet New England piece of heaven! We live about an hour away and it's a nice scenic drive. read more

The mayflower spa is the best highlight. I love entering the dramatic entryway with high ceilings and minimalist desk and kind receptionist. The fragrance of the place was very nice. I even purchased their signature diffuser for my home. One thing that is a little off is the design of their rooms. Although clean, I found the decor a bit overwhelming and outdated. I'm a big fan as we've been coming here for years while visiting friends in the area. The menu is not large by any means but the food is rather good. The outside dining room is the way to go (summer only, clearly) as I find the inside dining room to have very little character. No music, too quiet and a bit reminiscent of the Titanic (after sinking, more like a ghost ship). Their burger was outstanding and they just lost a star for taking their BEYOND SURREAL mac-n-cheese off the menu. Big mistake. Huge. What a great find! Old world charm situated in the middle of Litchfield County at a five-star resort nonetheless. Muse at the Mayflower Inn lives up to its name. My party arrived on time, and was seated promptly in the Pub as requested. The Pub is a casual atmosphere with a wide array of offerings. The staff cheerfully welcomed us and the service was nothing short of excellent. I had the organic sirloin burger that was cooked to perfection, accompanies with rosemary and sea salt French fries that just were so good. My girlfriend had the lobster pizza that was delicious. Others has the salmon, and the filet mignon sliders... Both dishes were excellent. For desert, we had the panna cotta, and warm chocolate cake... Both disappeared within minutes after arriving to the table. Their was a piano player that set the mood, and the night couldn't have gone any better. Bravo! Bravo! So discouraging that I'm writing this review for a place that has been the location of many special dinners and celebrations for our family. Christmas Eve was the biggest disappointment. The staff was totally overwhelmed from the valet to the busboys. One valet parking cars on a holiday?? One waiter for 6 tables with 6-10 guests each? Thirty minutes to get a cocktail? We sat two hours before we got our dinner. We were not alone in our dissatisfaction as we had conversations with other guests complaining about the experience I'm giving 2 stars for the staff who really are not at fault but they were doing the best they could with obviously poor management & no facilitator to direct what should have been a festive evening!! read more

You're literally encased in this ultra luxe upholstered canopy , with the most perfect tailoring . The restaurant is delicious , service totally personal and top notch . Kudos to the GM Israel who is running an efficiently smooth operation . Their events coordinator Jordanna Dzierga quickly became one of my favorite people on the planet with her incredibly warm personality , loveliest demeanour , professionalism and soft spoken ways . Loved her . The grounds here are out of a fairy tale . The view of the gardens from our room took my breath away . The bathroom is perfection . The gift shop which was newly opened is beyond stunning and a portait of class and sophistication . The spa is by far the most stunning piece of work I've ever seen in my life . Pics do it zero justice . You gotta expérience this in person . Totally coming back next chance I get . Thank you to all who made our stay most memorable and most comfortable . Words can't express the love I have for the Mayflower Inn. This place is absolutely amazing, charming, beautiful etc. I walked in and fell in love with the decor we sat in the library with the fire place lit and it was so relaxing. We later made our way over to the bar for some amazing drinks and a little spiked hot coco. Then onto dinner. As soon as, six o'clock hit the smells coming from the kitchen, absolutely mouth watering. Words can't express the delectable food we had from the suckling pork, octopus or the black pearl salmon. The service there, amazing the staff there exceptional. There is a young man who works there named Andrew it was beyond a pleasure to meet him he was just amazing and the a women who greeted us at the front desk, I think she is the concierge, she was an absolute doll. We went there on a Tuesday night before the snow storm and I am now planning my wedding there. All birthdays will be spent here, I will definitely drive up just for dinners. I originally went there bc I am a Gilmore girls fan silly I know but I have now been converted to a fan of the Grace Mayflower Inn!! So we did our wedding here on July 28, 2018. I have to tell you it was magical. Andrew was there again which made it very special we met him the night we went there for dinner and he was amazing then and this time again. Alli Fodor was our planner and I absolutely love her and she made the experience so amazing. She is a kind and beautiful person who made me feel like I was number one even if she was helping others at the same time. So my wife and I stopped in to check it out, had heard good things but they failed tonight! Either understaffed or a bunch of trainees, not sure but after 30 minutes and only having one beverage we had to leave! Gorgeous place. Just came here on Sunday to have brunch in the dining room. It's bright and sunny and lined with windows on the back wall that look out over the garden. Very old-fashioned and elegant in ambiance. The food was tasty as well - had the chopped kale and the roast chicken. I would have liked more cheddar grits with the chicken but my waistband thanks you; the brussel sprouts were just as good. Overall, extremely pricey but a lovely experience. The Mayflower is a five star experience. It's pricey, but worth it and we look forward to returning for our anniversary, or any other time we can find an excuse to go up there. On this trip, we returned for a three night stay as a part of our miniature honeymoon. We knew that we would be too tired to do any major travel after the event immediately, and we wanted a place to unwind after the excitement of the weekend so we decided quickly to book the Mayflower. It was a great decision. Accommodations: We had a suite of rooms with 1.5 bathrooms, and a fireplace. The suite was gorgeous and we recuperated by reading some of the really great books that were on the suite's bookshelves. Service: The Mayflower has excellent service. No request was too small or too big. Case in point: I left my bags in the room and they called and offered to have someone DRIVE THEM UP TO VERMONT where we were for the next leg of our trip. In the end I chose to have them overnight the bags instead, which was greatly appreciated. Spa: I always love a good, steam, hot tub, and pool circuit, and the Mayflower's facility is great for all of that. This year we also availed ourselves of the message services, twice which were excellent. They really really excellent. Food: The restaurants at the Mayflower really do have very good food. The menu has great options, and everything was prepared expertly. Wine:The Mayflower boasts a strong wine selection, and they seem to be well preserved as the older wines we ordered tasted as though they had been stored at an appropriate temperature. read more

It took 30 minutes after being seated to even receive menus... One of two glasses of wine came 30 min after that. I had to ask 3 separate waiters to finally bring the other glass. The salad and app came after another 30 min and the entrees came wrong , raw and tasteless. I asked for another glass of wine and was told they ran out!!! I'm not quite sure how my husband & I ended up here for our 1st anniversary dinner, seeing as how it's an hour drive away, but I'm sure glad we did. At first glance, I thought this place would be pretentious, filled with old-money old couples with faces frozen from a lifetime of scowling & Botox. I was thinking, What did we get ourselves into? The wait staff was pleasant. The room was pleasant - a bit outdated, yes, but the business (hotel, spa, restaurant) is meant to look like an 18th-century building. And maybe it is, I haven't done enough research. I felt comfortable immediately. It reminded me of a country club. Our waiter, John, was a love, very knowledgeable & friendly, handing us our wine lists & menus. The first thing I noticed is that the menus are short. Granted, this is a small restaurant, but I have never seen a menu with only two pages & four entrees (and one special) on it. That being said, it makes me feel confident about anything I order, because if a chef only offers four items, he or she must possess the ability to make those four items DAMN WELL. And did he (or she) ever! My husband & I started with two glasses of wine, a CT chardonnay for me, French viognier for him. John brought out the bottles, poured us a taste, then poured the glass after we deemed it acceptable. Our first course was the chopped garden salad, which tasted divine. My husband is not a salad fan, and he reported that it was the best salad he had ever tasted, with its chopped greens, whole grapes, chopped yellow beets, chopped cucumbers & thinly-sliced red-pepper strips. For dinner, my husband ordered the special, a wild king salmon dish that was the last of the season. I love salmon, and this was the best salmon I have ever tasted in a restaurant. It was THAT good. As for myself, I ordered the tagliatelle, which came in a brown sauce with mushrooms - so good I skipped a breath. We passed on the dessert menu, which is very short (three items) but has a cheese plate. I love cheese plates & was very pleasantly surprised to see that you could pick a number of cheeses which were listed & explained on the menu. I have never seen that before, normally you're just given a "cheese plate" option, with no idea of what cheeses you're getting. Even though we passed on dessert, John brought us two "cookies" (really small squares of tri-colored almond torte with chocolate ganache topping) with "Happy Anniversary" written on the platter. Just a doll. The meal came to under $130, which may be a little on the pricey side, but I don't mind paying the money when the food is outstanding & the service exceptional. A delicious classic continental menu with attentive, knowledgeable service and professional staff. While the sumptuous Inn is, in and of itself, enticing, it is the Spa that seals the deal. There is a very good reason it was named the #1 Spa in the country by Good Morning America with Travel + Leisure - it is simply amazing! The Spa offers a wide variety of classes in its four studios including bar, pilates, yoga and strength training on its sleek modern Italian Technogym equipment. The star of the spa, however, is their list of extensive treatments. All services are customized and performed in spacious soundproof treatment rooms. The Mayflower Inn is a relaxing get away from the city. Located on a lovely piece of property in Washington, CT. The Inn is very quaint and gives the appearance of having been here for centuries. However it was recently rebuilt in1994 which gives it up to date amenities. The large soaker tubs, nice showers, flat screen TVs are just a small part of the Inn's seemingly endless steps to provide for their guests. The staff is well trained and goes the extra mile to see to it their guests are taken care of. The restaurant provides excellent service and an above average meal. The brunch is top shelf. Eating in both the bar and the restaurant is pleasant withgoodservice. The bar also makes a good drink. The spa is excellent. I received a fantastic massage and spent a pleasant afternoon relaxing and taking in the scenery around the pond. I would come back here anytime. read more

We went to the restaurant a few months ago for our first wedding anniversary and we were sadly dissappointed. Zero atmosphere. We arrived for a 6:30 reservation - there was no music?! Live or otherwise?! The waitstaff was completely inexperienced group of high school kids - well meaning but NOTHING to offer...they couldn't answer a single question about any of the wine. The decor is seriously dated with floral carpeting and wallpaper. A manager was busying about the silent rooms with a scowl on his face that only added to the negative vibe. The specials options were simply common - porketta, bracciole?! The dishes that we chose were traditional menu staples with little inventive-ness on the flavor spectrum. We did not bother to stay for a dessert course - headed over to Oliva in New Preston and salvaged the evening. What a waste of $250! read more

I came here for a week long corporate event with my company. I got to enjoy a lovely room with an amazing bed and amazing scenery all around. This place was so quiet and serene. I did actually get the opportunity to try out the spa which was an amazing experience. The hotel is very accomodating but you have to remember that this place is literally in the middle of no where. Don't expect lots of restaurants near by or high speed internet OR......... cell phone signal. The restaurant here is incredible. When I sat down at the bar area, next to me was the CTO of a HUGE company and he told me he came here every weekend from Long Island to have their burger and fries. So... I had the burger and fries and it is the best burger that I've ever had. I've been dying to go back, but I need a dam good excuse to travel the two hours. read more

My partner and I stayed two nights in a delux room at the resort in August. The grounds were impeccable and the attention to detail in the accommodation was perfect. I had very high hopes for this restaurant, but it was unfortunately very poor. Starting off we had an odd waiter switch and it took 20 minutes to get our drinks. Then they didn't take our order for another 10 minutes. After 45 minutes of starvation we finally received our appetizers. I was not impressed though because the cesar salad was warm and overdressed. After another HOUR of waiting we finally received our entrees, which was also bad because they gave my poor old mother a singular piece of dank looking fish and they insisted that it was the one she ordered which it was not.
