5 stars because this is still a great place to buy top quality meats and the service staff is mostly friendly . Just don't let them cook it for you. Brisket sandwich might have been ok but it was served cold and so little meat it was closer to a slider than a sandwich. Mac and cheese was mediocre at best and also came out room temperature. Potato wedges had enough seasoning for 50 orders, completely absurd and unnecessary. Also the seasoning had loads of sugar in it which was strange. Fried chicken sandwich was probably the best item we had it did come nice and hot but way too oily and also overly sweet. The mayonnaise goop didn't add any value to the sandwich either. El Pollo Rey around the corner is the best restaurant in Seaside and you'll spend less than half the money and actually leave full. read more

I was very disappointed in my first and only visit to The Meatery. I bought a $31 tenderloin and planned to eat it that evening (about 2 hours after buying it). When I unwrapped it, it had large black sections and spelled rotten. I have since written 2 emails with no reply & called multiple times with no answer & no way to leave a message. Not good. I can only hope this was some sort of anomaly with the meat but the inability to answer an email or have VM is really lacking for customer service. read more

What a treat to eat this delicious meat. Visiting my daughter at CSUMB and took her to get lunch at the meatery all I can say is pictures and reviews did not do this place justice. Parking lot was a little tight to get in but the dirt lot next to the building was more than accommodating. Inside the combination butcher shop restaurant was on full display with a deli counter and fridge full of pre-cut meats, meatballs etc. My daughter got the burger and typical college student it was devoured instantly. My wife got the brisket sandwich that was amazing. I was unable to decide between the cali cheesesteak and meatball sandwich, the man behind the counter recommended the meatball sandwich, so I got both to try. The meatball sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. Handmade meatballs perfectly balanced with the right amount of cheese and sauce and then lightly toasted. I cannot express how good this was, it was so good I ate the entire thing and will have to save the cheesesteak to review later. I also got a carrot cake that was probably the best I've ever had. Carrot cakes can tend to be dry but this one was moist and delicious, I let my wife and daughter try a bite and the ate the entire thing so before I drove away I had to go get another piece for myself The man at the counter was so nice and helpful he gave me the carrot cake for free and wished my daughter the best in her upcoming waterpolo season Overall a great experience and wonderful find in Monterey. I'm a huge fan of Todd Fisher, the famous chef who competed in Hell's kitchen. He's one of the top chefs in Monterey area so when I saw his commercial on Instagram about a brisket sandwich, I had to have it. The brisket is cooked for 18 hours and it was soft and delicious, very well seasoned perfectly balanced. While there we also noticed a beef ribs that is slow cooked. It was served with some homemade pickles and a side of barbecue sauce which also appeared to be homemade. The food was excellent, but the service was a bit slow and the cashier who was delivering the food to our tablewould only bring one fork and knife so I had to go ask for another overall experiences. Today I got the meatball sub. It's been quite a while since I've gotten one. Seemed like the bread was a little different, or maybe the cut? And would have liked more marinara. However, it was delicious! The recipe has such a great combination of flavors with the tender meatballs, mozzarella, sauce, and aioli. I also bought a couple of breakfast sausages and some chips. I've had the paprika chips before and they are thin and crisp. Really good! So I got those and I'm trying the Iberico ham ones and the truffle ones too. Their sandwich menu is larger and tempting. I can't remember ever eating a better burger in my life. I told the owner to help me as I am unable to eat anything with black pepper or chili. He was thoughtful and recommended the burger and I am so glad that he did. I had to go Wash my hands and face after eating that juicy burger. Two napkins weren't enough. My daughter said she would've liked to have had a little less salt on her burger. OK next time tell them to make it light on the salt. My wife said I wish it had been cooked a little bit more. Have long awaited a "real" Reuben sandwich, and couldn't wait to try The Meatery, as theirs had been lauded by several people. But what a major disappointment it was. The meat was not only very fatty, but it was extremely tough and difficult to bite through and chew. There was only a shred or two or sauerkraut (which we had to look for). The sauce that should be on a Reuben, was neither Russian or Thousand Island, and had no taste, served only to make the bread extremely soggy. The bread was lackluster; it had no discernable rye flavor, and tasted less than fresh. There was a very thin slice of cheese that wasn't even melted, and added nothing to the mess. As we were in a hurry and took our sandwich "to go," we did not bring these issues up at the time. All that for $22.00 PLUS TAX and a 10-minute wait while no one else was in the establishment!!! We asked some questions re diff items and the man's facial language and RUDE answers were a BIG turn off. Maybe he thought we weren't going to end up buying anything, idk, but I had to walk away and let my husband deal w/ him. We ended up spending 200 bucks, but seriously that is NO way to treat your customers. Thought maybe the guy was having a bad day, but after reading through the reviews I see the same complaints. I wish there was a better way to determine whether they will be serving sandwiches on any particular day. Otherwise you are stuck with Subway next door. We visited on Saturday at 5 pm after watching " Check Please". We stepped up to the counter at 5:05 pm. I felt like I was stepping into a Seinfeld series, "no soup for you"! Except this was "no meat for you! " The guy behind the counter was adamant- none of the sandwiches were available- all sold out except brisket! Bummer! It's just slightly after 5, close at 6. Oh! So we got 2 of the brisket sandwiches . It was 3/4 fat and 1/4 brisket.... Yuk! A squirt of bbq sauce, One pickle and a few onion slices.... Tiny bun. Nothing like I saw on the show. And did I say it was 80% fat? Yeah brisket tends to be fatty, but my sandwich was one thick slice overwhelmingly fat! Gross! I had to get a plastic knife to cut it all off! The Mac and cheese, I'm sure it was good but it wasn't even hot! The broccoli salad was good. Bottom line $62 and I gave $8 tip but just as a courtesy as the counter guy just threw our sandwiches together - no love included! And I asked for a receipt and I never got it. Next customer! Oh ... I bought their chicken dog food- the poodles love it. Great for dogs, not people! Otherwise, the Meatery was a big disappointment . Where do I get started... ummmm delicious first and foremost. Upon entering this establishment you will be greeted with awesome decor and a wonderful ambiance. The menu is listed on rolls of butcher paper and the store front part of the store has everything you need for charcuterie boards, seasonings for the meat that you purchase, and a whole bunch of little things to look at while you wait. I absolutely love the decor of this restaurant down to the light fixtures and artwork. Definitely tied everything together in a tasteful, elegant beautiful way I said to my hubby as we were sitting there "I really love how elegant this butcher is" LOL Now to the food- boy o boy lemme tell you- DELICIOUS! We try a lot when checking out a new restaurant to see what we like so when we return we already know- And we Will return. The fried chicken biscuit had me drooling, the hot honey with the fried green tomatoes omg perfect! The biscuit itself was moist and tasty-I wish I could have the recipe . I'm hungry again just typing this out. My honeys cali cheesesteak was well thought out and flavorful, the pepperchini was a wonderful addition to the dish. The brisket (Saturday special) was good, even us not being the biggest fan of it we REALLY enjoyed it. The pickled onions were perfect for the texture break up. The sides were on par with the sandwiches, potato wedges and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was crazy delicious, we wished it was a little bit hotter when they brought it out but the flavor profile was great. Like two thumbs all the way up Potato wedges are the bomb, crazy good seasoning with crispy skin -need I say more?? Surprised I had not heard of this shop and so glad a local recommended it! Drove right past, not seeing sign. Tucked in. Could be walking into top tier Carmel shop (a compliment) and so glad they chose to locate in Seaside. When you're this good people will come to YOU!! My meatery burger was excellent and I commented liking that we weren't asked "how we wanted it cooked" as they confidently cooked it to perfection (med rare). I'd rather finish a burger than take any home and for that it was a perfect size and smartly not served with anything else. I wouldn't have been able to eat fries also. Loved that sauce, little pickle surprise and smoothly delicious potato bun. Companion had the brisket sandwich and I eyed it as a thing of beauty, with its beautiful color and perfect crisp edges. It was a lot of meat and he took half home and is smacking his lips on it as I type. We did add a piece of the Chocolate Guinness Cake. Also yummy and quite rich with the abundant frosting. I might be more of a rich dark chocolate fan but it was a wonderful treat anyway. Browsed the well laid out shelves of epicurean delights, including mice picnic adding, the terrific custom dog eats, bones, and rubs. Already looking forward to next visit. Absolutely the worst brisket sandwich!!!at least 60% of it was fat, sold thick pieces of fat, not trimmed attached to a meat that was smaller than the fat. Meaning maybe 40% meat or less of it was meat if that. It is obvious they don't take pride in what they do and don't care about what they are serving to their customers. Ambiance was also too noisy with a music that didn't stimulate appetite. Make sure to check your sandwich before biting into it.
