Nice to have an old school market still around. It's convenient for picking up stuff and has quite a good selection. I am a little disappointed with the butcher section. I was overcharged during my last visit. I got a three pieces of ribs that were from the deli section pre-cooked and I asked how much they would cost and the gentleman who helped me said 8.99 a pound. When he rung it up, he quickly took it off the scale, but I noticed it said .39 pounds and later after getting rung up and leaving, I noticed that I was charged five dollars!! Five dollars was written on the package. No indication of the weight was written on the package. He was also very selective of picking up the pieces he gave me...and I noticed that the pieces I got had large bone in them and very little meat. Definitely got less than a quarter pound of meat altogether once I removed it from the bone. So I have decided not to return because I don't trust that they're ringing up the meat correctly. read more

This is about service. On Sunday: 4/12/26, 9:30 am. Went into get breakfast burrito and coffee. Asked the woman checker if they had any, and she said, "Oh, I don't know. There may be something left." Shocked, I said, "Ok. Well. Do you have a restroom," and she said, "You don't want to buy anything. No." The rudeness was staggering from this store. If you don't want to work, don't! I've been a Grove Market customer since dear Ray Aiello left the Top Hat to work there. That's more than a few years! Yesterday I ordered a luxurious prime rib roast via Josh in the meat department. Today I picked it up and Josh had applied butchers string around the ribs, trimmed it, and wrapped it up nicely. I asked him for cooking tips and he wrote directions on the wrapper and we had a discussion. I am so grateful and pleased. Tonight, we have dinner guests and we shall feast! Pricey but handy grocery store in town. We got some key items right when we got into the area - just in the nick of time before it closed. They have a section for wine and separate area for beer. The produce was pretty good quality. We even found some urgent baby items in one of the aisles. You'll find some necessary pantry as well as some splurge items. read more

Lovely small market with everything you might need when you're staying for the night or a day at the beach. Everything from produce to frozen entrees and packaged goods. Love their locally made baked goods and artisan breads. I also love their organic fruits! One time I came here, I found THE BEST plums that tasted like candy!! I walked in this store oblivious to the set up I have no idea why I thought the hot food bar was in the back. I kindly asked the tall bigger worker for directions, he was rude and says you just passed it. I would really have preferred he showed me where it was and a suggestion of what is the best seller. I won't give my business to a place that has employees with poor attitude's. read more

I stopped in to this market because I was at Pavel's Bakery, and I thought, " it will save me trip to TJ's". I'm really glad I stopped in. I did a quick browse, then went to get bags from my car, and a cart. They carry a variety of brands, and I was able to get everything I needed. The Grove is at the neighborhood market and may as well the the "Cheers" of Pacific Grove. It is very convenient with a good selection and a friendly staff. They have a nice little meat deli as you walk in with some pre-made snacks and salads and then an old school butcher. It is small so the selections are simple and to the point. For a small store they have a great beer selection!! It is a little expensive but worth it to get that hometown feel with the friendly service you would expect and exactly what you need from a local market. read more

For some reason, I always like going into local grocery stores when traveling. I feel it gives you a window into what it would be like to live in that city, versus a corporate hotel lobby or chain restaurant. On the hunt for baby food pouches and fresh fruit, we popped into Grove Market and it had that vibe I was looking for. It's a little tight in some areas here, but overall it's your nice, quintessential grocery store. The produce was really good and that's always a nice measuring stick for overall quality. We loaded up on blueberries and strawberries. Baby food selection was pretty sparse, but hey you can't win 'em all. Great little market serving Pacific Grove. They have tons of premise food so you can pop in and take a hot meal home, and/or do your regular grocery shop. If I'm on Lighthouse and realise I need something for home I'll pop in here, always quick and easy. There's a lot of organic produce and lots of health food brands. I like that they have a small import section with British teas and some canned/jarred goods that are difficult to find. Staff are friendly and there's plenty of parking. read more

With the shelter in place order Grove Market is only doing curbside service to delivery. My husband and I went there today to get some Salmon. After waiting 10 minutes, the young man in the market called me and said that in the future I had to order $25.00 dollars worth of food but they would make an exception for me. There was NO ONE Else there. While I was waiting for my salmon a young lady in the meat department opened the door and spoke to a couple walking by for several minutes. She could have gotten the salmon to me in less time. We left without the salmon. This service was unfortunately pretty typical of this store. read more

I couldn't find Cornstarch at the local big stores. You know, if there's no Cornstarch there's no lemon meringue pie or gravy and this is a Thanksgiving emergency. There it was, if fact two different brands of Cornstarch at less than $3.50. I could have corned the market and sold the stuff for twice the price at the BIG stores. Appreciate the butchers here the most! They cut rib eye to sukiyaki style thin thin beef for me. Hard to find in this part of town. They also prepared prime rib, bone off and reattached during the holidays. Very fresh and flavorful meat. They also sell local delights-- like Marianne's ice cream and frozen gourmet pizza (Margherita, truffle mushroom) from a pizza maker in town! Go to Pickings Antiques across the street and the art gallery, music store, art store, bakery. There's lots to do around. Walk around! read more

Came here today as a tourist, to get picnic supplies and because I heard they have a good selection of locally-made products. That was all fine...there was a fine selection of fresh baked goods, and I picked up sea.salt caramels as souvenirs. Got some food from the hot foods, husband said that was good. The problem came when I checked out. I pressed the "cash back" button when I paid. The "nice" checkout lady then breezily opined on how good the store's b-fast burritos are, and observed that it looked like we were going to have a picnic. Then she blurted "oh, got another customer; receipt's in the bag, have a good day!" And shoo'ed me off. What didn't I get?? RIGHT...MY CASH!! And.a few minutes later, when we had driven away and I remembered, we looked thru the grocery sack, and NO RECEIPT either. Pretty slick, huh? If this gal does this even a few times a day to distracted shoppers, she has pretry fine supplement to her wages. And we didn't go back..because its her word against mine. What a cute little market in Pacific Grove. We were driving around like crazy looking for a place to buy milk before finally finding this place (thank you Internet!). It's a super small grocery store that brought to mind, as I walked in the front door, your local, small, ethnic stores in SoCal. 4 aisles, 3 checkout lines and a deli for prepared foods. But instead of carrying ethnic foods in the aisles, they carry what you would normally see in a Whole Foods market: organic, and if possible, locally sourced. Example: they have a whole display rack of Lulu's Chocolatier selections, of Monterey. Marianne's Ice Cream, of Santa Cruz. And Monterey Baking Co., of Monterey. The workers are young and cheerful, like Trader Joe's. If you want to get something to eat without the fuss of going to a restaurant, go to their deli section: they have cold and hot foods to go. read more

Some interesting local items probably hard to find elsewhere, like some packaged Greek foods made in the area. Get the tamales from the butcher case. Good and cheap! An excellent market, and a throwback to better times. This family-owned and operated market is an institution in PG/Monterey. It is my go-to market because of its convenient location, competitive pricing, and quality goods. The meat counter (and now the hot-food counter) is well known, and for good reason. The pricing is competitive (cheapest ribeye steaks in the area, for example) and the selection is great. The staff are awesome and will help fill your needs and offer cooking tips. Used to be the only place I could buy pork ribblets for Chinese-style stew. Beyond that, though, check out the produce section. The produce staff are great and will make recommendations about melons and the like. Local, organic products are available at competitive prices. They have the best asparagus (local) you'll ever eat, when it's in season. In the summer, local apricots, pluots, and berries are available. Given the size of the market, they are remarkably well stocked in all areas from canned goods to wines, and household essentials. A singular market. read more

This is a family owned local market that's been around for several generations. There is plenty of parking in the surface lot, and more in the city lot more or less across the street. Not the places to leave your car all day while you go to the beach but more then enough for a few hours of shopping. This is a largish store with an interesting mix of high to low end items. Not as much diversity as the stereotypical american 400,000 thousand item grocery, but you won't really be lacking anything either. Lots of gourmet items mixed in with budget brands. The budget brands are carefully placed so as to not be very noticeable, but if you shudder at the thought of paying 11 dollars a can for tuna, somewhere on that shelf will be the dollar can-you just may have to pay a bit of attention in order to find it. Not that there is anything wrong with the 11 dollar (it's by the caviar ) can-at least as far as I know. The produce is one of the smallest I've seen, but make up for that by being carefully stocked with affordable organics. There are some unique things here. The original owners were avid early sponsors of the pebble beach golf tournament. The back of the store is kind of shrine to 1960's, 1970's and 1980's golf. If you are interested in the history of the sport go check it out. They've a decent wine selection-again some okay bottles for three bucks or, some decent stuff in the hundred dollar range, and some excellent choices in the 20-40 dollar range. It's fairly certain that no matter what your taste in wine is, they'll have something for you. Better then expected collection of European brands -if you've a visitor from the UK that you want to get rid go pick up some marmite from here, then leave it out on the counter. Be warned though that if they accidentally open it you may have to burn your house down afterward. I'm not saying I hate marmite (I actually do), but I am saying that like balut or lutefisk it's very much an acquired taste. The major claim to fame here is the expansive meat counter. The menu rotates daily and weekly, and even though it's heavy on meat items, there are also some tasty tasty vegetarian stuff as well. We were able to stock up on chile relleno for something like 1.49 a pound which is an incredible bargain especially considering that it was at least as good as any offered by the area restaurants. Some of the dishes are arguably better then what you can get nearby. As a result that hot counter is really really popular. if you are looking at the menu and there is something popular on a three day weekend that you really want-come early. They can run out of certain items late in the day if not sooner. Honestly that superb hot bar is great by itself-all the other stuff just adds on to the awesomeness. read more
