This place is so special. Amazing selection of meats. Cured, deli, fresh cuts etc. in house made sausages are fantastic. Amazing house made brisket and pastrami. There sandwiches are amazing. The goomba is the best Italian sub I've had outside of NYC. Their Reuben is one of a kind. They have a cut of Spanish pork here that will change your life: the iberico abanico. Sear it on cast iron to 145f. Put some Italian salsa verd or chimichurri on it. A meal you can't get at even the nicest restaurant. We feel so lucky that this place is here. read more

Don't really get the hype....bread was alright, meat was ok, flavor kind of bland. We got the calamari steak po'boy and the cali-cheesteak. Tri tip was okay but not super tender or anything to write home about. Service was a little slow from ordering to getting the sandwiches. Hot case of fried chicken, ribs, brisket that we overlooked. we were on our way to seaside and I saw this butcher shop that was open and I used to work in Davis on their campus to help our own butcher and so it was nice to see that there are places still like this This is our first time eating here on our way to the seaside to go to a special event. We stopped here and ordered two sandwiches fries and the mac and cheese. I ordered the California cheesesteak and the French dip Solid sandwiches wish The cheesesteak was bigger but definitely good balance with meat and bread. The friendship was nice easy not too messy. We saw this place on IG and we wanted to try it . Wow was the food and service beyond amazing! They stop serving hot food at 5 pm FYI . Me and my husband got burgers, some brisket and mac and cheese . The burgers were beyond amazing. Fell in love first bite lol the mac and cheese had a hint of spice and wow it was good . Excellent NY Strip steak! Well Worth the $ and much better than wasting your money with a sub-par expensive steak at a restaurant. It's become my go-to place for a great steak. Their Beef ribs are amazing but they run out before the end of the day. Only open Wed-Sat and so plan accordingly! Their products move fast and so they are always fresh. Enjoy! Wow! Truly impressed by the offerings both for eat-in and take out. The highest quality meat and exotic offerings at the butcher counter. Took a dear friend for lunch today and was impressed by the báhn mi sandwich with pork belly and paté. My friend lived her Reuben as well. There is a casual searing area that is immaculate and the take out sides an d salads looked truly elevated. I paid cash and was a little confused by my receipt, as it itemized everything and it came to a little over )42. My intention was to give the change from my $50 as our lunch was quite worth it and althougb there is no table service these are hand crafted sandwiches. Change given was $3- I looked pointedly at receipt and the three ones, thinking maybe there was a $5 service charge ? I was going to inquire about it, but did not want to embarrass anyone and I may have embarrassed my friend by pocketing the change. I usually tip 15# at order at the counter restaurants but the unexplained $5 "service fee" threw me off.Lunch was truly worth the $50, but the unexplained discrepancy in the bill threw me off. I think my dining companion was mortified however, because she is a frequent patron and went back to order wine and some bison patties, for which I assume she generously tipped to make up for my lack of doing so. I would defiantly return and seeing no mention of a sandwich making fee or service charge, I think the gentleman thought one of the $1s he handed me was a $5 and it was an honest mistake. In retrospect I wish I had left the change because he probably felt that I stiffed him, but $3 did not seem an adequate tip and I had not more cash on me. Next time I might speak up but I did not, so as not to embarrass my friend. Next time I pay with a credit card. I did take the star off because although food, service and ambiance were above reproach, and I should have said something about the bill,it was a little awkward. I had a hankering for a Reuben sandwich the other day so I went to Yelp to check. Come to find out that there's a kosher Deli in seaside!?!? Who would have believed it? So I went over there and was pleasantly surprised to find it across the street from Bank of America. Easy to find and lots of parking. I went in and had a nice chat with an employee and ordered my Rueben and brought it home for lunch. It took a little bit of time and it was kind of expensive, but the taste made it all worth it. I don't think it's an everyday kind of place but if you have a sandwich itch you need scratched, THIS IS THE PLACE. I will be coming back to try some other things I saw on the menu! The Meatery is a remarkable place because of its owner Todd Fisher, and his really great staff. While it is not open every day of the week, a trip there on days when it is open is always a treat. Tuesdays through Saturdays. When I've gone to get items for a special dinner with friends at our home, Todd is always there to make suggestions including, for example, how best to make duck breasts on the barbeque. Our guests still rave about how delicious that dinner tasted. Recently, I purchased steaks which Todd recommended and, after carefully writing the "recipe" on the wrapper for how many minutes to cook and the proper placement on the grill, I followed his instructions and again got rave reviews from our guests. I got a Cali Cheesesteak and the Mac and Cheese, was not impressed... Especially for a $30 lunch! The mac and cheese was bland, and just tasted like textureless cheese chowder... There was no pasta texture, no stand out spice, or pepper, or anything... It was just soft cheesy stuff. The cheese steak was ok, it had tritip and seemed like american cheese. But it was really skimpy on tritip, and I thought it was supposed to have pepper-jack, but it didn't. If you want to find a gorgeous selection of meat, and I mean all kinds of cuts, this is your place. From steaks to duck confit and even Porchetta, they have it all. My husband grew up in Monterey County and saw a friend of his post pictures of the food from The Meatery and has wanted to try it ever since. We stopped by here at around 5pm on a Friday evening. We were surprised that they were nor busier, but it is probably a blessing in surprise because if they were busy, we may not have tried their delicious brisket. We didn't buy much at the time because we were staying at a hotel and didn't have anywhere to keep the food so we picked up a brisket sandwich. In all honesty, we should have gotten two because it was that good. The meat was so juicy and tender. I am the type of person who appreciates the fat on my steak because it holds all the flavor, so I loved seeing it in our sandwich. The next day on our way home, we made it a point to stop by and pick up more brisket by the pound. This cut was not as fatty, but had so much flavor. They even provided us with some pickles, pickled onions and amazing Coca Cola bbq sauce. We also picked up a pound of cooked Porchetta. The Monterey peninsula is very blessed to have The Meatery available. Why you ask? Well if you want the very best choice of meats available it puts everything else to shame. Don't read that at dissing Brnos's or Whole Foods, it's just that the quality and variety of special meats aren't available unless you go to The Meatery. Todd and Ada own the Butcher Shop--he's the XChef of 7th and Dolores. When he wasn't able to make a deal work to purchase 7th and D his timing worked to buy the Meatery. The store is in Seaside and the kitchen, butcher space is very large. The retail front of the store is nice, adequate space with a nice display counter. He has multiple kinds of steaks for example, rib eyes, filets, New York's, short ribs,..but you want 30 day dry age Prime? Todd has it. Oh, 30 day wet aged, prime? Sure, no problem. Want short ribs boned so it's one piece of meat? Easy Peasey. I could go on but you get the message. I especially like that you can request the cuts the way you want it. So if you decide 2" thick is your want, just ask. He has all the equipment required to deliver what you want. They make their own sausages, varied chicken offerings with marinades, and offer cooked brisket, many sandwiches during lunch. Service is A1. The hubby always wanted to try this place. It was very clean. There is a sign as of 7/2021 that if you're NOT vaccinated no need for face mask. We wanted sandwiches. We got the daily special one brisket sandwich for $18.95. We asked about the sides because as you can see on the menu it's right underneath "& sides seasonly inspired". The guy behind the counter said the sides was extra. Then asked if we wanted 2 sandwiches. I said one so we could bite it and decide. The service was quick. We got our sandwich it was pretty big. It had a good amount of brisket and it looked very juicy. Had cabbage and a bit of Mayo. I bite into it and it's definitely been smoked, meat was tender but it was not well seasoned. I could not finish my side I gave it to my hubby after 3 bites. I think if they are selling the meat in a sandwich it should be seasoned more, to bring out the flavor. For $20++with the tax and tip for one sandwich I have to pass or maybe throw in a bag of chips for that price. If you want fresh cut meat this is the place but not for an over price bland brisket sandwich without sides. Maybe their other sandwiches are good or I bought it an off day. They have cute stuff on sell that would compliment the meat.
