Stopped by for a couple of tacos and was absolutely disgusted by the handling of food. Older gentleman behind the counter was cutting raw meat when he saw me approach the counter. He proceeded to grab a tortilla and asked me if I wanted a burrito with the same glove covered hands he was just handling raw meat with. I shook my head in disgust. He then approached me and placed his hands palm down on the food prep surface where everyone's food is made. I asked him if he was going to put on clean gloves! He then proceeded to take his gloves off visibly upset. I could see sweat come out the latex gloves and on to the food prep counter. There was a bit more, but I feel you should get the point of this review. I turned around and walked away. To add I have contacted the health department, so hopefully they send a secret shopper to catch some of this atrocious service. read more

Great local market. I always find what I need and a few things I don't and buy anyways. The ground beef is excellent and cheap! The whole meat counter is mouth watering. Best Burritos I've had in a while! We got carnitas and carne asada burritos and man, they were huge! They were filled up with protein not just beans and rice like 90% of taquerias do. I'm one of those long time customers that holds mixed feelings due to the inconsistency in their fresh produce, meats, and deli counter. At their best, it's amazing and I'd readily recommend it to anyone in the area. On the other hand, I sometimes wished I wasn't such a regular that played Russian roulette - meaning, when I should bail, I should bail instead of leaving with more food and produce. So what makes me come back so often? The food is generally good at the deli counter. The portions are great for the price and the flavors are often spot on. The staff are very friendly to me - despite seeing them sometimes be otherwise with other patrons (which while rare, still happens for whatever bloody reason I'm clueless to). Depending on the time of the day, the normally large burritos and plates could range from already large to let's-feed-a-village, or the plates being loaded as usual to completely overflowing requiring consumption attempts for days. Now the other side to all of that is the general quality of the food, produce, and meats. Yes, it's cheap for a reason and most people without sensitivities (or iron stomachs) don't care. I've found wilted cilantro buried in water or rotten tomatoes and veg at the produce section, or have gone home with close to 50% fat ratio asada in my burritos, really soggy carnitas, or even "old" onions and lettuce in my plates. While this may happen around one in five to six visits, it's something that shouldn't happen. Why should it ever happen? You've got a good thing going on already. So just maintain that please? That said, I'd still come here often as I already have for years. But like all things said and done, if you see something unusual and think you should bail, do so. Don't be like me trusting my iron stomach and still leave with something when it's one of "those" days I should gtfo and get something elsewhere. After all, I don't pay the same consequences others do when it's a "bad" day. So I tend to keep going back for the rest of the time when they are actually great. read more

Never again! I have not gone to this place for months because they are never friendly if you're Mexican American. I've seen them be super friendly to other people just not me. I smile and say hello but nothing. Today was no different. Food is ok. Sometimes you just want Mexican food and you will deal with poor customer service because it's close and convenient. Never again. I bought carnitas. Look how much FAT was in my piece! My piece weighed .86 pounds. How much did the fat weigh? The guy before me had the fat trimmed off his carnitas. Not me. The burritos are delicious and they are very generous with their servings. One burrito could literally last you all day. I've infrequently bought produce here and have never had problems with "bad" produce, but your mileage may vary. I recommend the following to try: carne asada/Chile Verde/carnitas burrito, carnitas by the pound, chicharrones, and their tamales. read more

One of the best things about Marina California is the variety of ethnic food markets. El Rancho Meat Market offers standard Mexican food supplies with a rosticeria that features a burrito bar. I heard about the burrito bar looking at reviews on Yelp. I'm always in search of a bargain burrito and a true standout product was found here. I opted for a chile relleno burrito. The $7.99 giant burrito was built on a very large flour tortilla warmed on a flat top grill. Like Chipotle you choose your ingredients as your concoction rolls down the line. Great refried beans and Mexican rice served as my base. The giant relleno is chopped up and loaded onto the growing load. Relleno sauce added on was superior. Cheese, pico de gallo and red onion rounded out the fillings. I added a carnitas burrito for my son. $16. out the door. The two burritos had to weigh over 4 pounds combined. My son couldn't finish his. My other half will serve as dinner. The rice was perfectly cooked. The relleno was huge and the tortilla was delicious. read more

When my family was staying at the Ramada Inn nearby we decided to check El Rancho Meat Market out for their Mexican food and to our surprise this place may be a hidden gem in Marina but the food is alright but not up to par. For instance Dad liked his burrito and my mom liked her food but for me the main problem was the rice and when I have eaten rice at a Mexican restaurant I always like flavor to it but when I tried El Rancho Market's rice it seemed okay at first but was too overloaded with paprika and it was so terrible I couldn't even finish it. I have never seen Mexican rice with so much paprika in it as much as I did at this place. El Rancho Market is a good store but they need improvement in their Mexican food and with a lot of improvement they could be huge in Marina for Mexican food restaurants read more

Staying in town for work the past few weeks and have given the place a few shots because it's right down the road but I should have given up after the first attempt with to go food. The most bland burritos and tacos I've ever had, Taco Bell does better and I hate Taco Bell with a passion. None of the ingredients have flavor and their "hot salsa" is about as spicy as ketchup. Rice was old and hard on my last try. The burritos are fairly big but for $8 you shouldn't expect much flavor or quality wise. As a whole pretty disappointed in the Mexican food in Marina compared to Salinas where I've been working even though it's only 8ish miles between the two cities. Besides the hot-food-to-go area the grocery selection is good if you like Hispanic food and the butcher selection is great for anything beef you want and they do have a few other meat products. Some people that come to this market do not have manners. It's sad that I used to come here frequently and spend quite a bit but the lack of customer care/integrity is why I stopped going. Employees are cold and disengaging. Customers sometimes are walking in front of people already in line and trying to start fights at the market. This market is great. It is in a convenient location, and the perfect go-to place for when you can't get to a supermarket like Santa Fe or Northgate Gonzales. They carry all sorts of Mexican food products, from snacks to drinks to canned food items. Along with food products, they also have a wide array of household items and things like lotion, medicine, and shampoo. The produce has been fresh everytime I go. I usually go for onions, chiles serranos, lettuce, etc. The fruit looks good too, although I usually get my fruit at the Asian market down the road. I have ate here around 3 times now. Each time I got a burrito. They are HUGE, and just under $6. Usually I eat only 1/3 and save for later or I share if I am with a friend. They have seating, extra napkins and hot sauces for you to eat comfortably if you are not taking your food to-go. The food has never made me sick. The market is well lit, and quite clean. So much so that in many of my visits, I have seen the employees mopping or tidying up. The employees are friendly and will greet you as you come in and as you leave. The service is A+. I did the veggie burrito to keep it on the light side, my buddy had the Asada. Absolutely fantastic!! It was so big, I could not finish and only ate half. That was my dinner too. Place is very clean, which is a big deal to me personally, and the price was $5.29 ea. I figure, heathier than fries n burger right? Anyway, plenty of parking and great service.
