"Mediterranean Sampler" Warm pita bread and 4 dips.(Creamy white Tzatziki, Nutty chickpea Hummus, Red pepper & Feta cheese, Spinach & Feta)

Four of us stopped in last night, when it was in the single digits in January, and had a great time & enjoyed every bite. No complaints here. Lancaster "old-timers" may remember this building as "Kane's Restaurant" once upon a time, and other than a sign change out front to "The Mediterranean" I'm guessing there really haven't been any updates since the 1970's. So don't be surprised by the vintage interior, either. We started out with the Pita Bread & 4-Dip appetizer, ("Mediterranean Sampler") which consisted of fresh, warm pita triangles and a choice of creamy Tzatziki, hearty Hummus, a Spinach & Feta cheese and a slightly spicier Red Pepper & Feta cheese dip. All of the dips were quite good, and we alternated between all of them. I'm fond of Greek food already, so I ordered the traditional Lamb Gyro, with everything but onions, and a side of Greek Fries (with lemon juice squeezed over them and Feta cheese sprinkled on top). The Gyro was stuffed full, with generous portions of warm meat, cheese and veggies. Very tasty! I like to eat my Greek Fries quickly, because they tend to cool down quickly and never quite taste the same when they are cold, so I only ate half of them. But they were really good. One of the others in my group had the waitress copy my order, and she seemed pleased with her meal as well. Another member wanted a basic hamburger, and got the All American Burger and seemed very happy with it. It was a nice, large cheeseburger on a brioche bun, came with a side of chips, and was only $7.75. Not bad! (In fact, she tends to be very frugal by nature, and commented that she couldn't believe how reasonable all the prices were). The fourth member of our group wasn't interested in eating Greek Food when we sat down, and she'd planned on getting a burger also. But she surprised all of us by ordering the "Shrimp & Scallop Mediterranean" with a side salad and basic fries. She got a full plate of seafood, assorted veggies and rice, and she loved it! It was more than she could eat, so the other three of us accepted her offer to have a taste and it was delicious! We were all too stuffed to try the desserts, which was a shame, because the cannoli looked fantastic. Maybe next time. If a "hole in the wall" vibe doesn't scare you when you pull up to this building, give this place a try. I think you'll be pleased that you did.

Mediterranean on 33 is the best place in Lancaster to get Greek food. Ok, it's the only place. They don't have competition thankfully. It's okay but nothing mind blowing. They have a bar so you can get a drink while your food comes out. I had the falafel sandwich. It's about $10 and comes with fries. The falafel were pretty tasty. It was kind of burnt. The inside however was okay. It would have been nice if there had been more. They only put in a few pieces. Fries were good. Of course how could you screw those up. It was a lot like Greek fast food. Some of it was good and other parts could have been better. This could be visited again if going into Lancaster but I wouldn't make a trip for this.

I got a platter because i wanted to try the Greek salad and hummus and it seemed like a good deal. I was disappointed to find the salad to be some lettuce on my plate with feta and a tomato wedge. The chicken had a chicken fajita Mexican vibe more so than Mediterranean in my opinion. The hummus was delicious though and the salad dressing was also really good. The weirdest thing to me about the platter is the French fries. It doesn't fit. I would have much rather skipped the fries and had a bigger salad. Atmosphere wise the dining room is surprisingly decent considering the outside of the building. However there was loud oldies music playing which also didn't fit. The music made it feel like a dated 50's diner and the staff kept skipping songs which made for skipping around. I think this place definitely has potential but it needs some work.

Drive by this place all the time so decided to stop in after work and pick up dinner. This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very nice inside. Decent size bar and seating area. We got the gyro pita platter with seasoned fries, a side of falafel, and baklava. The food was very good, not much else I can say about it. Now, the reason for only 4 stars. This is mostly a sit down restaurant, so not sure how many take out orders they get. There weren't more than 4 tables occupied when we got there, with 3 more groups arriving afterwards. It took them over 30 minutes to get us our order, which IMHO, is a bit too long to wait for a takeout order. The other part of the 4 star rating is the gyro was a bit chincy when it came to the meat. I've had gyros for cheaper with more meat. Overall, we'll go back to dine in but probably not do take out. Ownership does seem friendly and the staff as well. I believe they are the only Greek place in Lancaster.

I was in Lancaster with my friend going antiquing and we ran across this place to eat a very late lunch. We had two appetizers, the hummus and the olive and feta. They were both really good but nothing too special. The feta was fresh and big chunks. I had a spicy gyro for my meal. It is a huge gyro and comes with tasty chips. The service is ok, again nothing special. I would go back however because there are not many restaurants around.

Very yummy place! Came into town for a family wedding was family recommended this place. After a 6.5 hr drive from DC we were starving and ready for some good food. I got the chicken shawarma and it was incredible. I cleaned my plate! I am salivating just thinking about that dish! We were with a very large group as we met up with other family members there, but the waitress was very helpful, cheerful and attentive to our needs. I would give 5 stars but one large piece of chicken turned out to be entirely fat. It was the same size all the other pieces of chicken (quite large) but was so terrible being pure fat it actually made me gag! Yikes! It was particularly unpleasant. But I would still certainly be back, despite that one unfortunate bite the flavors were incredible!

Excellent place! Highly recommend! The food is fresh and homemade. The chicken parmigiana and Albanian linguini are my favorites! Of course the gyros are very good too! The restaurant is really nice and has a great atmosphere. The bar has its own appetizer and drink specials menu if you just want a snack and a drink. There are about a dozen televisions so its a great place to watch the game! They have a banquet room with another bar and tvs that you can use for large parties. The entire family works there and checks on their guests to make sure everything is perfect! We are lucky to have a restaurant like this in Lancaster! Baklava to die for! read more

We eat here often and everything is always delicious. Today is my birthday so I wanted to take my family. Not only did it take forever for us to get out food.... I saw our waitress drinking beer and when the food came out my husband said his pasta didn't taste right (which he gets the same dish every time) so she came over, took a fork from our table and tried his pasta dish and then tried to argue with him that it was fine. I am very embarrassed and appalled by this. We will never come back... as good customers that always eat here and my family I know spent above 100 bucks tonight and we get treated this way. We will travel a little farther for Mediterranean food. read more

Gyro meat had awesome flavor and cut into big chunks, everything else gross. Couldn't bite into the pita hard and burnt. Lettuce yellow and browning, tomatoes rotten. Hummus wrong color. Brought out too quickly like it was prepped and wait to be served. Pita for the hummus was cold and some pieces soggy. Could eat a huge plate of just the gyro meat. Also when picked up gyro plate was filled with liquid draining from gyro. Kinda gross. Table tops were sticky to touch. read more

This place is simply amazing. The chicken athena and garlic bread with Greek salad. Fried eggplant and mushrooms. This is the only place I'll go and eat, the owners are wonderful people, they treat you like family when you walk in the door. Staff is amazing. read more

Terrible food, sticky tables and they steal pictures of other chefs creations and pass it off as their own. Which is extremely shady tin eye pretty much any of their images and you will find it has been stolen and isn't usually something even on their menu. read more

Really almost 5 stars? It was ok but that is all. The meals lacked in the authentic seasoning and was not the freshest. My chicken kabob was overlooked and dry. Service was excellent but as stated the food was just ok read more

My family and I have been eating at Mediterranean in its two different locations for years. We had never had a bad experience before last Thursday night. My father in law and I were there for dinner---------the place was not full, maybe three other tables at that time. I won't say the service and food were awful, but a couple of the food entrees (the falafel and french fries were left way too long in the deep fryer-both were hard and the fries were already turning cold) were barely edible. My food came out and then 10 minutes later, my father in law's food came out. Why both dishes were not brought out together I do not know. His gyro WAS good even though the fried were not good ones ----albeit coming out much later than my food When I asked to see the manager, she came out but was not financially apologetic for the mediocre food (she offered us a desert but neither of us wanted one). She ended up comping only one dollar off of the bill which was 33 bucks to begin with. Both items in question should have been made over and then the price comped for the mistake. Had the place had been busy I would have had a bit more understanding, but it was not. Someone either in the kitchen let the food linger or the waitperson forgot about us. Either way, it was their "bad" and I feel they didn't do enough the remedy the situation. Again, this was the first time I'd ever experienced a hiccup in service there. Anyone can have a bad night---but with the restaurant not being crowded the food and the ticket should have been made more right. read more

This was a tough one. We've dined twice and both times it just felt weird. The food was nothing I'd call special. The waitress kept pushing us out, the cocktails were awful and I wonder if this is a front for something else. My husband and I went there the first time, then mom wanted to try it. The place is average. The gyros have that typical gyro taste, are cold, and have liquid ranch/garlic/sauce with it. I love Mediterranean food so I cannot resist trying out new restaurants in the same theme, but the gyros here are too wet. It might be what made it cold. I was really looking forward to some warm gyros filled with meat and veggies with a thicker garlic sauce than the watered down thing they had. The dip sampler compensated for the less than stellar gyro though. The bread they offer is the puffy type that is just sticky enough to avoid being called dry. I wish they served some babaganoush and tabouli too, however. Look online when their specials are and what they're offering that day. The place is a good place to stop by if you're in the area and are looking for the freshness that Mediterranean normally offers. Order the dips and don't get your hopes up with the gyros. I'm sure if they tweak the recipe slightly, it would make the wrap enjoyable. read more

The only thing I am upset about is not trying this place earlier!! We just picked up some gyros and fries, but they were amazing! I got the spinach chicken gyro and it was to die for! We'll definitely be ordering from there more often, or even going in to eat. When we picked up our order, the inside was also super nice! I also love that they are linked to Grub Hub! read more

I love this place. Service is always friendly and on point not to mention, the food is fantastic. The calamari is amazing, the kopanisti is sublime. I have never had a bad experience in dining here more than two dozen times. Friendly, clean establishment with great food, what could be better? Update, restaurant has new owners. Recipes have changed and not for the better. Service is inconsistent, food is just ok. The place certainly lacks personality. read more

I use to order from here once a week. Took a break when I heard there were new owners. Decided to give it another try tonight, big mistake. Ordered 2 gyros both were completely soggy with liquid NOT sauce coming out everywhere. Worst gyro I have ever eaten. Meat had no flavor, probably because everything was so water logged. When I called to complain they tried to blame it on the sauce and when I said I got the sauce on the side and it was still water logged they said I should have gotten the pita on the side. Poor service recovery, left my name and # for the owner will have to see if they call me back. Won't be back after my experience. read more

Stopped in to have some dinner last night and it was a great choice! The spicy gyro was fantastic (and they were running a special on their gyro pricing which was a surprise). I travel the state for my job and I am a vegetarian I always search out either Mexican or Greek because it seems to be the best fit for me. Everyone there seemed very nice they were very helpful and answered all my questions. I ordered the falafel it was extremely over cooked almost burnt no flavor very dry the vegetables look like they been sitting around for a while not very fresh. Pita was flavorless. Not a lot of flavor with anything that's why am only giving it two stars if you are a vegetarian and you are looking for Falafel skip this place. read more

Nice atmosphere. Italian margarita is delicious. Hade the grape leaves and the Mikinos Calamari for appetizers. FANTASTIC!!! Very flavorful and tasty on the palate. Dinner salad is huge and fresh as heck! Crispy and yummy. For main course had the Greek chicken and linguini. OMG!!! So good! Don't drive by this place. Also found out they have a huge party room. I would eat here every day if I wouldn't go broke. This family-owned place is one of a kind. He atmosphere and layout is very comfortable and casual. The family is always so nice and friendly. I always get a chicken sandwich and it tastes so fresh I think they just killed it in the back. The size is huge and its seasoned just right. One word: Calamari! Best Calamari EVER!!! And the serving portions are HUGE! Their desserts are also really yummy! Don't ignore their special of the day! Whatever it is, there's a reason they are special. My husband always gets whatever their special is because it ends up really good. The atmosphere is nice, but we come back for the CALAMARI! read more

Ordered to go and got falafel and gyro. Falafel are orange in color and taste unlike any falafel I have had. I called the restaurant and they said that is the right color since they use brown favs beans. I threw them away fava beans are green. Gyro was okay. Hand cut fries were soggy. I would not recommend. read more

The BEST MEDITERRANEAN FOOD I have had in a looooooooong time! The family that owns and serves the restaurant as well as other staff are always very nice and make you feel like family when you're there....Something I have never tried before in my life when I was there was the SPICY SPANAKOPITA (spinach, feta, phyllo) DELICIOUS! FRESH SALAD! DOLMATHES! (stuffed grape leaves) A lot of wonderful dishes to choose from each time you go....Take it from a Greek who knows food! EH! What Greek doesn't? Been here several times for gyros. First 2 times I got the classic gyro. My only complaint is the sauce is very thin but still a good flavor. I also tried the Philly Chicken Gyro and I didn't like that so much. The chicken wasn't seasoned and was a little on the chewy side. Overall it was very bland. The appetizers were very hit and miss with me. The dolmades and fried smelt were good but I didn't care for the falafel. It was very dry. The service wasn't particularly friendly this last visit but they appeared understaffed as there was only one lady seating and waiting tables. Hopefully it will be a better atmosphere the next time my family stops by. Overall it's a decent little place. read more

I have celiac disease. I wanted the hummus with veggies instead of pita bread. She said it would be 4.95 MORE to substitute it. Every wine that we asked for they didn't have. We ended up ordering one glass of one they did have. We didn't stay for dinner. Not to mention horrible service and management. Won't go back. read more

Wow this place is amazing! Very well priced and awesome food! You have to try the spicy chicken argos or the shrimp and scallop Mediterranean. Huge portion sizes and tastes amazing! Honestly wasn't anything special. I've eaten better Mediterranean food. The salad was bland. The only thing I liked here was the calamari that was fried on point. Other than that, it was just ok. I don't think I will be coming back. read more

Fantastic Mediterranean lunch in a mildly elusive spot. Went in for lunch alone expecting a small counter service express, and instead found a homely full-size sit-down restaurant. I tried the spicy lamb gyro with fresh-cut fries and was surprised by both the speed it reached me and its quality. Oh, and the $5 gyros on Monday thing was great, too. Killer food and attentive service (my server was extra pleasant and present due to my coming in alone) make this one a hidden gem. read more

this place is horrible! its just processed meat surprise. not true gyro meat at all. the food is poor the veggies few the waitress with the white hair...totally worthless . she couldnt get 3 simple orders right! 1 appetizer 3 gyros 3 greek fries 3 drinks ! and we were the only people in the place!! the service and the food i have tried i have been forgiving....6 times different days different menu items daily specials... the waitress owner and the long white hair woman... service sucks the greek menu items are garbage and they are way to expensive for the junk they put on the menu and bring out to your table if they can remember to do that! the owners are liars. they claim that they serve fresh food...ha! beware the daily specials...they are like the other place across town that has been closed down because they served rotten food...well the daily specials are all the leftovers they have "left over" from the past 7 to 14 days from whatever food they served the previous week or 2. pasta only lasts ..... blank days... pasta sauce... hamburger meat if kept a certain way... but its the way restaurants clean out the fridge. beware always daily specials. and the reason the owner replies is because they can say anything they want with their fingers. but why not apologise to the customer for the lousy service they absolutely no about when we are in the restaurant? you knew we had issues and you never came to talk to us...because you cant back up what you say. i caught you telling lies. and i tell the truth. lancaster im telling you the persons who run this place have no respect for you at all. please do not waste your hard earned money in this place. if they are not willing to tell the truth instead of coming up with lies and excuses.... they have had many many poor reviews before mine...i have tried them over 6 times... they could care less about your satisfaction with the service or the food stuffs they get prepackaged and processed spam like meats. if the mediterranean had changed any at all i wouldnt be telling you to steer clear of this terrible place. go to the frozen food isle at your favorite store fix it at home pop in a movie and you will be better off.... no matter how tired you might be. read more

My family has been a long time loyal customer to Mediterranean on 33 for years but after our experience today we will never be back. I have never experienced a more rude & unprofessional management staff in my life!! They should truly be ashamed of the way they treated us today!!!! We went in to grab a quick lunch as we often do there. We were the only people in the place when we first went in. The waitress (very nice but clearly new) took our drink order, brought us our drinks, and never returned to take our food order because she went to wait on other tables. 15 minuets later I had to flag down another waitress to ask if we could order because we were on a time crunch as most people are at lunch (we had just over an hour to eat). When our food finally came the meat in our gyros was ice cold, like straight out to of the fridge, not cooked cold. We sent them back and waited for new ones. Because it took so long we had to tell them to only replace one because 2 of us had to leave right then in order to make an apt time (we had been there for well over an hour at this point). When we received the bill they charged us for the meal we never got. When we of course asked them to remove the meal we did not get the manager actually started a huge argument with us and accused us of lying stating that we did get both replacement meals. We did NOT get 2 replacement gyros we only received one and the other family member left without eating lunch because of this places screw up!!! We were very polite about the all of the screw ups today and yet were treated horrible by the management staff. I blame the management for all the issues there today because the waitress had clearly not been properly trained and no one from management was helping her. Not one time did we receive an apology from the management. We will not be returning to Mediterranean again nor will we be recommending this place to anyone ever again!!! read more

This restaurant was a pleasant surprise with a menu that is a different enough to let you enjoy something new with regular selections to keep everybody else in our family happy.
