Finally got the chance to check this place out today. Its not low calorie. Its not healthy, but it is tasty. Its a basic place where melted ooey gooey cheese is the stand out. The cheese fries are awesome, the Melt burger was just as expected, and the Mac Daddy Mac and cheese sandwich was carbtastic. Actually the mac n cheese inside was the best part and when i come back, i will probably just get a side of that. Its a crazy parking lot, but worth the battle for a cheesy lunch. Its just a tad loud inside, but thats ok. Its not somewhere I'd demand quiet. I will be back. That grilled cheese and tomato soup craving will hit when its not 95 degrees in the middle of October, and now i know where to get it for lunch. read more

Stopped by San Diego for business and took my family to the melt based on the high ratings and my baby and wife chanting for a cheeseburger. On the search there were many choices and fate led me here. The service was amazing, the staff were helpful and the take out restaurant was very clean. The sodas are all made with sugar cane, very worth it. My daughter and I had cheeseburgers, both burgers were cooked medium well, juicy, and very tender. My first time at the Melt in La Jolla was a great one. The staff were really nice and courteous especially Madison. Greeted us very cheerfully and made our stop there a pleasant one since it was a long, tiring, and very hungry drive down from L.A. This place came up on my nearby and the photo of the mac n cheese in a sandwich was enough to entice us. Little place in a busy shopping center. It seemed clean inside. Late afternoon on a Sunday and it wasnt too busy. Got the mac daddy sandwich combo, with fries and a drink. Had a cup of the black cherry soda which was solid. The orange creme soda was not my cup of tea. The fries were standard, although they were dusted with some green stuff, maybe dill? They were good. The sandwich was good, but did not live up to the hype. The mac n cheese was lacking flavor, even some salt wouldve helped it tremendously. The bacon inside was cooked well although it was distributed unevenly. Also, the sandwich was cut "in half" diagonally but the "halves" were so uneven. Mine and my wife's fries were cold and you don't get any sauce except ketchup? If you want sauce, they're $0.50 each... found this out after I got my food. The bacon cheese ranch fries are not worth the money. They don't even give you a whole potato... It was the worst ranch I've tasted. Probably came out of a bulk jug. Bacon was bacon bits sprinkled on top. Mac n cheese was hot but lacked flavor. It was hot only because it looked like they made it big batches and packaged it under a hot lamp. Heard about this place from a friend that loves eating things with cheese. Tried it out and it was delicious. There are a few things with my experience that didn't give it the full 5 stars though. Some cons include their Yelp check in reward, it makes you make an account with the app that doesn't even give you the reward right away. I found the process a complicated as I had to order with the app when I was already at the restaurant. This made me get my food later than my friends who just ordered normally. Also in terms of the food, everything was drenched in oil. While it was delicious and many delicious foods need oil, it seemed excessive. Workers in the kitchen also were not wearing masks which should be a standard in the food industry by now. Some pros to this place is that there is plenty of parking here and despite the volume of people they have coming in, they bring out the orders fast and provide a text when it's ready which I found extremely handy. I got the garlic Parmesan fries which were very yummy and flavorful. Overall, the service here is great and the workers are fast. The food is delicious and made fresh to order. Ok- lets just say it, their macaroni and cheese a la carte is just average. Not that creepy or cheesy. I would not order again. Had a grilled cheese, my moms is better. Flip side, the sandwich with macaroni and cheese and bacon was very good. Loved the fries. The soda is vegan FYI. I didn't like their chocolate shake, too icy and I didn't like the chocolate chip chunks in it. The pickle is spicy, but good. The other melts were good. The Snickerdoodle shake is by far, out of all the countless and various shakes I've had over the years, THE BEST shake I've ever had. But the second time I came I was little more disappointed, our cashier was still super friendly but the meal was just okay. I got the Mac daddy the first time I came here and it was okay. I felt like I was just eating plain pasta smashed between two slices of bread. The Mac and cheese was not cheesy nor flavorful and the bacon doesn't add much flavor to the sandwich either! The second time I came here I got the classic grilled cheese and was underwhelmed. The sandwich was super greasy and the cheese wasn't all that. I was expecting a little more. Paying $6 for a grilled cheese you can make better definitely puts a damper on your meal. While in San Diego for a work trip, I was was lured to The Melt with the promise of gluten-free bread and amazing grilled cheese. The decor reminded me of a Chipotle, with wooden chairs and tables and sparse decoration. For a counter service restaurant, the menu is a little too big. I didn't feel like I had a chance to really read all my options, and the board was high enough that it was awkward to even try. I settled on a patty melt and plain fries; once I sat down I realized I could have had sweet potato fries, which I would've preferred. The sandwich itself was a little greasy, but overall pretty good. The fries were clearly fresh cut. Unfortunately although I specifically asked about gluten free bread when I came in, and ordered it for my sandwich, that's not what I received. I love this place. The staff are always really nice and and the food is always good. I went here at least once a week during most of my time at UCSD and I was always eating good when I did. The place is nice during the day, although they tend to attract a certain crowd late at night, but I've never felt unsafe and the staff always have an eye out for you. Cannot recommend enough if you like AMAZING burgers and fries (bbq burger and the bacon ranch fries are 10/10). Their milkshakes are the best you can get, especially the strawberry one which has a ton of actual strawberry chunks. They are also gluten free friendly and almost every meal has a gluten free option. Although it has cross contamination, I've never had issues eating here (I have celiacs). #MeltburgerLove read more

Food recommendations: The Melt burger is really good and flavorful. I don't really like the squishy bun but can get past it with the overall juicy patty. The spicy mission chicken sandwich is very tasty but I'm so bummed that somehow all the ingredients together slipped out of the sandwich for every bite. And that's my pet peeve... this sandwich has jalapeños, avocado, melted cheese and pickled onions. I'd love it more if it wasn't a complete mess to eat. Sweet potato fries were nice and crispy! They do have some sort of a slight sweet cinnamon seasoning on them though. Food to PASS: I was not impressed by the Florentine bacon Mac and cheese. It lacked all flavor and was so bland.
