Loved this burger joint and was so happy we chose to eat here for lunch. The space was so cute and vibey with the decor. The area was clean and bright. The staff were all so nice and friendly. And service was QUICK. I got a Double Original MeltBurger with lettuce and tomato, and subbed cheddar cheese with provolone--it was DIVINE!! I loved that they cook their patties a bit pink in the middle, which allows it to be more tender and moist. Every bite was just heavenly burger goodness in my mouth. Think In n Out burger but elevated. We also got some Cheddar Bacon Ranch Fries; they were good and tasty, but with how loaded and decadent my burger already was, I think I would've preferred either the plain fries or sweet potato fries with my meal. THE MELT @ DEL MAR HIGHLANDS Parking is easy here, which is a big plus. There's the multi level parking structure behind Urban Plates plus surface parking throughout the center, and I've never really struggled to find a spot even when it's busy. You can get in from El Camino Real by the Chevron or from Townsgate Drive near Cinépolis. The Melt itself is a fast casual place, so you order at the counter and they bring the food out. The inside is clean and modern with a lot of natural light, and there's outdoor seating too since the whole center is open air. Not a place you'd sit for two hours, but it's comfortable and wasn't too loud when I went. I got the regular cheeseburger and it came on a toasted potato bun with this spicy cheese sauce that was so good. The patty is Angus and wagyu, chopped and grilled, so it's actually juicy and not one of those thin dry fast food patties. It was $12, which felt very fair for the quality, especially for this area. Most of their burgers run around $12-17. The location is great if you're already out here. Cinépolis is right there, the Sky Deck is upstairs, and The Melt is open until midnight every night, so it's clutch after a late movie. I'd definitely recommend stopping in if you're at Del Mar Highlands. read more

I'm usually here for Sidecar Donuts, the fancy Ralph's, or Handel's ice cream. My favorite thing on their menu is the Mac Daddy grilled cheese, with bacon and Mac n Cheese in the grilled cheese! I get it on spicy garlic bread, which gives it an extra little kick. It reminds me of the old torpasta sandwiches that you used to be able to get in the Midway area, pasta and sauce inside a hollowed out torpedo roll. I could just feel the four that I was expecting to give this place slip away. Probably the most obnoxious part of the experience was just how chaotic it was, not that a restaurant can really account for 30 screaming preteens bumping into you but that on top of the layout of the restaurant being confusing over having to wait in line a second time to get the drink I ordered from the kiosk to the restaurant being super chilly, it was largely just an unpleasantly overstimulating experience. The fountain machine drinks were super foamy and you couldn't really get a good pour. I will say it's a big piece of chicken but the flavor and texture was so mid. The depressing coat you see on top of it is apparently the cheese, I guess. The fries were lukewarm and floppy. Incredibly unsanitary. Who are they letting 'cook' your food?? Came in Sunday, 7/27 around 11:40pm. Three people working; two ladies cleaning and one guy in the kitchen. The ladies were polite and had a nice attitude. The guy (sagging, little arm tattoos) KEPT GOING ON HIS PHONE WHILE TOUCHING THE MEAT/FOOD. Not just once; repeatedly, without changing his gloves. Touched the bun and meat, went on his phone, put the phone back in his back pocket, grabbed the bacon and cheese, grabbed the phone again out of his pocket, pulled his pants up while on his phone with food cooking, and then repeat. Right back to touching the food. I know this is a big DoorDash/Uber Eats spot. But if this is how they cook in front of people, please imagine how things are run when customers aren't looking. I've never seen anyone do this while cooking your $15-20 burger. It says quite a lot about management that they're letting someone go on their phone while handling your food. Of course they'll reply to this and say it's unacceptable and they're sorry that was our experience. Maybe that they'll 'talk' to the guy. Just words, no action. Go somewhere else. Someone barely qualified to clean the bathrooms is going on their phone and pulling their underwear up while they cook your burger. read more

Directly behind the cashiers is the main kitchen, the cashier seem to be busy, so out comes a cook from the kitchen he removes his gloves and immediately picks his ear, than he rings me up and I pay for my order. I found this place to be excellent! It's in Carmel valley, so a cleaner, more quiet, family, and definitely teenage vibe feel. Its not like the one at the gaslamp quarters. One thing I liked about the location is that I can bring it outside and eat right at the fire pit with my dogs. I just didn't like the teenage feel. I swear, my husband and I were the oldest folks there. Onto the burger... I adored the burger, but it could have had more melt! More cheese. I got the double bc i thought the single would not be enough, but ohhhh nooo, it's definitely more than enough! The burger was juicy and so filling! The best part was the bun. It was so soft and really complimented the thick patty. Id only suggest some salt and maybe a sauce in the burger. It'd be the perfect burger for me! The pickle was a bit bitter. I got the Cobb salad and it was great! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I took 2 bites of half my burger i shared with my husband and got very full, but I was able to finish my entire salad! I also got the grilled cheese sandwich. It was pretty good and cheesy, but the bread felt like sourdough, maybe it was. The cashier was nice and orders seem fast. My family and I had a very disappointing experience at The Melt. I ordered a burger with no cheese, but when it came out, it had cheese on it. Mistakes happen, so I politely returned it and asked for it to be remade without cheese. Unfortunately, the employee at the register (a young woman with black hair and blue highlights) was extremely rude and disrespectful throughout the interaction. When I told her that her attitude was unacceptable, she responded sarcastically instead of trying to resolve the situation professionally. What made the experience even worse was when she brought my corrected burger back to our table, looked me directly in the eye, and sarcastically said, "I hope you enjoy your order." At that point, I had no choice but to ask to speak with the manager. We had our kids with us and were simply trying to enjoy a family dinner, but the way we were treated completely ruined the experience. It was so uncomfortable that we couldn't even finish our meal. I've never experienced customer service like this before. Everyone can make mistakes, but there's no excuse for treating customers with disrespect and sarcasm. I hope management addresses this employee's behavior so other families don't have the same unpleasant experience. read more
