After walking up a few steps to reach the restaurant's main entrance, we entered and were pleasantly surprised by how clean and well-organized the restaurant was, both inside and out. We were greeted by a restaurant employee who immediately seated us and led us to an empty table. After placing our breakfast order, we waited no more than ten minutes before our food was delivered to our table. I ordered an oven-baked Mediterranean and cheese omelet, which was AMAZING!! Our daughter really wanted some pancakes last weekend, so we relented and found Richard Walker's Pancake House which was close to our hotel. We were nervous about a wait, but it wasn't very busy when we arrived. It feels like you could be in any generic cafeteria as far as vibes go, but our waitress was very nice and there was a good energy in the air. Our waitress made a mistake and put in the wrong omelet for us, so ended up with the Santa Fe, which was...OK. I guess they bake it, so it tasted a bit dry and it definitely needed more seasoning. The hash browns had the same problem. Our daughter got the chocolate chip pancakes and she loved them, but we found them to be pretty average. Their showcase dish--the baked apple pancake--was definitely spectacular when it came out on the plate, but the actual eating experience was only so-so. The crispier parts on the outside were really good if you ate them with some maple syrup, but the rest was a bit mushy and the whole thing was shockingly sweet. We had a very pleasant morning here, the staff is nice, and apparently the business is family owned, so we wish them well. Location is very central to the rest of La Jolla to walk around, shop, see some sea lions. My friend loves the German fluffy pancake and the apple pancake. So good! We also ordered baked Mediterranean Omelette with side of pancakes. Solid. No complaints. Service was friendly and attentive. Since it is in middle of Flower Hills Mall, not much in terms of views and parking can be difficult. But plan to go early to avoid the crowds. BUT BOY was I impressed with Richard Walker's Pancake House!! I had randomly met someone over a decade ago that said that this place was THE BEST breakfast/brunch spot but I never went until now. WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING OUT ON?! Went on a Sunday morning around 11am and were immediately seated on the patio for a party of 2 and my pup. I love that they're dog friendly and have outdoor seating. We ordered the Corn Beef Hash with 2 eggs, Thick Cut Bacon with 2 eggs, and with both of these orders you can choose how to cook your eggs, we opted for Sunnyside Up. It also comes with choice of toast or hash browns and we both opted for hash browns too. We also ordered 2 sides of sausages, a cup of coffee, and what they're known for which is the baked Apple Pancake. My boyfriend who ordered the Corned Beef Hash rated the food 8.5/10, but I'm giving a solid 5 stars because everything was delicious! The sausages were probably one of the tastiest I've ever had, the bacon wasn't hard and crispy but also was not limp. There was a good texture to it. I LOVED that the hash browns were perfectly crispy (and I'm a little sad I forgot to take a picture of it for y'all). The coffee was flowing the entire meal, I think my boyfriend had at least 5 refills. And the Baked Apple Pancake actually wasn't too sweet and tasted like a flatter crepe like apple pie! I've often seen people coming out of the place and have been curious and we had a chance to try it out with another couple. It was fantastic! We ordered the apple pancakes for the table as an appetizer and it was awesome ... a little like an apple pie, but subdued -- which, in my opinion, is a plus as sometimes they're just overwhelmingly sweet. This was just right. I had the huevos rancheros and it was very good -- maybe not amazing like the apple pancakes, but very good. My wife had the Denver omelette and it was good too. Our friends also had an omelette and also the corned beef hash on the side -- they said the corned beef was great -- and they're from NY, so they have it often. I opted for the "Danish Harvest", a baked pancake topped with fresh broccoli, tomato, mushrooms, onions and Swiss cheese( it comes with Havarit from Denmark however ever I prefer Swiss).,,turned out to be an excellent substitution...if I may say so...LOL. Wifey was craving "old fashioned " pancakes and two eggs over easy, which very very light and delicious. She gave their coffee a 7 out of 10 and said it could have been a little stronger. They do have full and half booths. First time at this location and the service was awesome. We were a party of 7 and we got seated right away on a Sunday morning. The waitress was also very nice and got all our orders correct. The food was good. Came out hot and fresh. Best part is that we didn't have to wait too long for our food to arrive. This restaurant is located in the FlowerHill Promenade. It has plenty of parking but is in a popular location so you may have to walk just a bit to the restaurant. The staff is super friendly and they make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your meal, and check up on you often! They do serve breakfast and lunch all day and they are only open until 2:30pm! We ordered coffee, the famous baked apple pancake and the sausage and egg breakfast with hash browns. The coffee was so good! We are huge coffee fans and the flavors in each cup were so good! The apple pancake, first of all is HUGE! The expectation we had was spot on. It was warm and tasty. It did come with a side of butter and syrup but we didn't use it because it was perfect the way it was! You could definitely get this to share, which is what we did! There are many locations around San Diego but this is my favorite one. Located on Via de la Valle in the Flower Hill Promenade just off the highway near Milton's. I've been coming to this shopping center since I was a kid and feel that Richard Walker's is a great addition to it. We did not have to wait at all for our Saturday brunch, even though it was quite crowded when we arrived. They have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating and many different seating options from booth to table. They have a very large menu that is focused on pancakes, but honestly everything we saw being delivered around us looked great as well. Our server was very polite and all of our items came out quickly. Being attached to Flower Hill there was plenty of parking, but depending on when you go it may be quite busy, but you will definitely find a space. For my meal I chose the California Benedict, which is basically a traditional Benedict with avocado on it and honestly I loved it. The hashbrowns on the side were great and the coffee I had during the meal was strong and tasty. I also feel the portion sizes are very large and the pricing is fair so it's easy to suggest this place to anyone. My parents live very close by so I definitely plan to be back many times in the future. read more

Wowzah!! So at 6 am we had to take dad in for cataract surgery. The receptionist recommended this location which is completely tucked away in an outdoor mall. I suppose if you're in the know, you know! I assume it's usually packed to the gills as there's a Stanchion for a waiting line outside. So I'm really glad we went early enough for peace and quiet. Our waitress Susie was AHmazin'!! This early and she was incredibly chipper and kind. Brat that I am I asked if they had a mocha which they didn't but she quickly recommended a coffee and hot chocolate mix that really fit the bill! Not only that but she made sure I kept it warm with continual topped. She even brought over a little extra whipped cream in case I ran out. That's great service. Mom's baked pecan pancake came out and wowed us!! Usually a slooooow eater, she raced through half of that sucker like it was on fire! (As I write this she is 3/4 through and debating saving some for dad. Usually she has at least half left). Yes, a happy camper. I had the cheese and spinach omelet. Real eggs, real ingredients! That seems to be a rarity these days! My only wish would have been more cheese over the whole omelet vs some of it. It's accompanied by a cold mushroom sauce that was interesting. We were in San Diego but heading up to OC so we decided to stop at the Del Mar location because it seemed that parking would be easy and it was on the way. My omelette was really greasy which I thought was odd but my daughter said hers was good. My only complaint is that when you order a breakfast you get... pancakes OR toast OR hash browns- never not gotten potatoes and at least once piece of toast. Customer service was good, my daughter was cleaning up the floor where my grandson made a mess and she was told "don't do that! We got it, it's for us to do". TallGirl, LongYellowDog and I went for breakfast recently. We walked up and chose to sit outside, as it was a gorgeous day. We sat at a booth and it was perfect. They also have two tops. It was our intent to come for breakfast and we were not disappointed! TallGirl found her soul-menu item of the day, the churros pancake special. She loved it. I knew what I wanted before I arrived. I had my heart set on a Dutch pancake. But after discussion, I went with the Dutch Apple pancake. Which was very good. I appreciated that the waitstaff got us "share plates". I guess they knew we were gonna get a bite of each other plates :) Some restaurants, serve out of control huge portions. This is not that place. As a person who tries to minimize my food-print and order what I know I can eat and not contribute to food waste, I appreciate the reasonable portion sizes here. TallGirl got her traditional Diet Coke. Which passed. I got a lovely cup of coffee. This staff has a strong coffee game. My cup was never empty, unless I w aged it to be. The level is customer service here is tip-top!! Someone was always checking on us, making sure we had coffee, soda, cream (and without being obnoxious). We were not certain of how patio dinning would be with service dogs would be with the dog friendly patio. I am pleased to report that they have strong dog rules, which I totally appreciate. And a strong dog menu! Traveling with a service dog, I feel I get a good sense of cleanliness of restaurants, as he sees the underside of a lot of tables. So, I see the undersides of a lot of tables. This restaurant was clean. Which I appreciate so much. Near the conclusion of our meal, TallGirl said, we had found our new "go to" for breakfast. This has knocked out the previous first choice. After a hectic morning in San Diego headed back up to north county I was so hungry. I remembered there was Milton's by Whole Foods and got off freeway immediately. I only learned, once in the lot, there was RW Pancake House! I had been to this shopping center before but never knew! It's upstairs and behind other stores so it's easy to miss, sadly, but I could not have been happier! A hot, delicious breakfast of sausage, perfect over-medium eggs and hash browns that are seriously the best I've ever tasted! I never order restaurant coffee- it's never as good as I would want or drink at home - but this was a hectic day and I went for it. Theirs is very good coffee and it is served so smartly in a smaller cup so there's no chance of it getting cold before the refill arrives...And continues throughout your meal.
