Nice & clean inside and the servers are friendly, but we sat for about 15 minutes before we were even acknowledged and asked what drinks we'd like. My wife ordered their caramel iced latte & water and I ordered coffee, water & grapefruit juice. She got her coffee right away and she really liked it. Our waters and my 2 drinks came after our meals were served. My wife got the cinna-cakes pancakes and added bacon & eggs over easy. The eggs & bacon were barely warm if you could even call it warm, 1 of the 2 eggs was broken and cooked more crispy vs over easy; but she was so hungry; didn't send it back. The pancakes were warmer and good. I got the limited "special" edition croissant with egg, gouda, sausage, bacon, arugula and habanero jam. It looked slopped together and was very dry with no flavor unless you added the really spicy jam. Couldn't even pick it up as a sandwich because the bread was falling apart and the egg hanging out and had to move it back into the bread. Got it with the fruit option and oddly, none of the fruit had any flavor at all. It was nice that a guy was walking around asking if anyone wanted more water as we did want more. When the bill was delivered, I was wanting for just 1 refill of coffee and had to flag her down for that & asked twice before getting it. The only reason I'm leaving a review is because I am very curious to know what happened. I've been to this restaurant several times because I love the food and atmosphere, and this has never happened to us. Throughout our whole stay, we noticed that our server came back to every table except ours. She kept checking on the table next to us, but never went to our table until the end when she brought our check. I don't go overboard with tips, but I always give 15-20%. We are from out of town, so our daughter's in-laws suggested here for brunch. Located in a mall-type parking lot it was easy to find with proper signage out front. Located near Daiso. Plenty of free outdoor parking. Walked around to the front and as expected it was busy on a Saturday around 11:00 am. But with no reservation we got a table for four by the window. Busboy came by right away bringing us water, utensils, and our server was so cool when hubby ordered a Bloody Mary explaining that they don't have a liquor license so it's not made with vodka - they use rice wine instead. He still decided to try it and it was a perfect blend not too spicy but we could understand why she explained to us because certain Bloody Mary connoisseurs might have balked. We appreciated that. I ordered the "Mama" omelette with the fruit salad and biscuit on the side (it all came with). This is a Vegetarian omelette with lots of fresh ingredients. Delicious and perfectly prepared no need salt or pepper. Fresh fruit cup included blackberries, watermelon, cantaloupe and pineapple. Biscuit was excellent too. Coffee was good and water kept refilled by attentive bus staff. It's a fun atmosphere with not too loud ambiance and workers were friendly and happy! Horrible service - extremely slow waited 29 minutes for waitress to acknowledge me. Watched as the staff stood in back hanging out -chatting. Mind u, it was not even during rush hour . It was 9:15am and relatively empty 5/6 tables ( if they were extremely busy then I would understand!). However; I was forced to get up and ask the hostess ( 2times) to please get my waitress . My family and I usually come to the Broken Yolk in San Marcos when we're craving breakfast earlier in the morning--around 9 or 10 a.m., before the brunch rush. It's kind of our "safe bet" spot, and we've been coming to this same location for a long time. That said, even though we're regulars, the experience is honestly hit or miss. Sometimes the service is great and the food is on point, and other times it's just okay. It's not a great feeling going in not knowing what kind of experience you're going to get. This last visit, however, was a good one food-wise. The chilaquiles were bomb, and the steak was actually cooked medium rare like we asked, which was a nice change because last time we had to send it back and wait for a new one. Our server was nice and the experience seemed promising at first, but we never got a check-in to see how our food was, and we were only asked about refills once--right as we were about to leave. I feel like a bit more attentiveness from the server would have made a big difference. If this location could be more consistent with both service and food quality, I'd easily give it five stars. For now, I'm sticking with three stars because while we usually have a decent experience, consistency is still lacking. read more

We like coming to Broken Yolk. We frequent either this location or the Carmel Mountain one. We never had a problem with parking. Going on the waitlist is very helpful for us we arrive right in time to get seated and not have to wait. The most waiting we've done is for the waitress/waiters - whom are super busy during the weekends. We usually go for the Meat Lover Skillet or the Meat Lovers Omelet. Their portion sizes have always been so hearty and filling for my husband. And quite filling for me while I'm pregnant. The omelettes are huge and filling. Terrific food! Outstanding service! The Steel Cut Oatmeal had good texture, with plenty of blueberries, strawberries, and slivered almonds. I don't know why, but it was lukewarm, not hot -- and it came out first. Odd. The Avocado Toast was simple, but very well done with lots and lots of avocado. This place always has a line but I don't know why. We got in quickly due to the princess with us. I guess they like her and she comes often with her dad. Was seated in a corner booth which was my first time in that booth. Our waiterress, I think Taylor was nice and attentive. I ordered a messy latte, and biscuits with sausage gravy, with a fruit cup consisting of only strawberries. My bf ordered chilaquiles verde and a short stack with an iced coffee. The princess had vegan scrambled eggs with a bowl of fruit. Her dad ordered - I don't remember. Her grandpa ordered chilaquiles rojo. The food took a while to come out so thank goodness for phones. I was surprised that they only give 1 crayon for the kids. I think it should be a minimum of 3. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, but me. My biscuits were hard and I begrudgingly ate almost the whole one. The sausages were weird and I just cohosh do it anymore. The best thing from my order was my messy latte where starbucks would call it a "Caramel drizzle" and my bowl of strawberries. Very happy that I can get one type of fruit. The pancakes were very good. I wish they had included butter with the pancakes. The restaurant was clean and up to date looking. I was seated right away and immediately asked what I wanted to drink. It was also brought immediately. My issues may be minor. First the presentation of the food was non existent. Basically it was a plate of pancakes and a plate of eggs and sausage. I wasn't offered a refill of my drink until I was done eating. Lastly, it seems very pricy. The food was good, but $23 for what I ordered seemed too much. Because of the quality of the food I'd go back, but would think about it first. read more

This is a nice brunch spot that is super packed on Sundays but the convenience of having Yelp is you can join the waitlist. Lots of seating inside. I got an iced coffee which only have one shot of espresso but I added another. It was pretty good. There is also a great variety to choose from their menu. It's been a while since I've been to Broken Yolk. I stopped going a long time ago when they didn't honor coupons on weekends. Everything was pretty good and the restaurant was clean. Everyone was friendly and my coffee was consistently refilled (very important at a breakfast place). I asked which was better, the home fries or the has browns. The home fries were recommended. They were NOT good. If you look at my photos, they are more like scalloped potatoes with absolutely ZERO flavor or spice. I rarely/never add salt to my potatoes, but I had to in this case. No flavor. Even my daughter said they were flavorless. Besides the "home fries," the rest of our experience was good. We did like the kids French Toast meal because we were able to basically construct the meal as we wanted it with no additional charges. read more

This morning, my sister and I visited Broken Yoke. Although the restaurant was not busy, we stood at the front entrance for well over five minutes without any acknowledgment. During this time, several staff members--including the hostess--were gathered around the bar, making direct eye contact with us while continuing personal conversations about after-work plans and tipping at tables. At no point during this extended wait were we greeted, acknowledged, or informed that someone would assist us shortly. We were only helped when our server, Jaehn, approached us to ask if we had been assisted. He immediately recognized the issue, looked over to identify the delay, and stepped in. Jaehn was professional, attentive, and sincerely apologetic, providing excellent service throughout our visit. While the food was excellent, the lack of acknowledgment and professionalism at the front of the restaurant was unacceptable and significantly detracted from the overall experience. Regardless of food quality, basic hospitality standards must be met. Front-of-house acknowledgment and professionalism need to be corrected, as first impressions set the tone for the entire visit. This experience reflects a need for review, staff accountability, and corrective action to ensure guests are greeted promptly and treated with the level of professionalism expected from your brand. Food was good for what it is. I order the skillet with "home fries" but it is definitely potatoes au gratin. If you are expecting little delicious brown square or rectangles of potat, that is NOT what you get. It's sliced potatoes that are basically baked. As far as gratin, not bad but not what I wanted. Hello regarding the San Marcos location. I am a long time customer. There is a man in his approx 50-55 yr old age range. About 5'4, medium skin tone, who is mentally unstable and in broken yolk all the time. He harasses customers inside and in the parking lot, he harasses servers... he goes into the kitchen as if he is an employee.. . He does not work there. Many people have complained. Yet nothing happens. Please help make this location a safer and welcoming place. It's not ok. Please at the very least stop him from going into the kitchen. His hands are absolutely filthy and this is not safe. Mangers do nothing even if you bring it to them. They say "ok I'll watch" and nothing happens... Servers aren't allowed to complain about him to the manager (as i was told today by a server when i asked him About the man as he was previously banned but about 6 months ago has somehow been allowed back in and there all the time. Just harassing ).... He's screamed at my family and i in the parking lot 3x now ... charged after us. We didn't even say a word to him. Came out of nowhere. Then inside he will stare at you and take your photo or film You if you look back or react. It's so uncomfortable and i don't want to stop going here. We love the food. But this is a serious health an safety concern. Last effort to ask for management to address before we have to contact FHD and CDPH. do better broken yolk.
