Then Dan came to our house and spent a significant amount of time with us explaining our options, showing us samples of cabinets, and answering all of our questions. We opted for several additional options on top of our initial estimate, but we never felt pressured to add or upgrade anything. We initially had hoped to do refacing to improve the overall aesthetic of our kitchen, but we were so excited to discover some of the additional options that were offered that solved functional problems that had always bothered us! When we reached out to Better Than New, we didn't even realize how much they could do besides just refacing. We replaced all of our old, hard-to-open drawers with beautiful, easy to open, soft-close drawers. We added a pull-out drawer for trash and recycling bins. We replaced sagging shelves in our cabinets. And we replaced the shelves in our deep pantry with drawers, making the space SO much more usable and accessible for our tall family. So not only is the kitchen beautiful, but it's so much more functional. There were zero hidden fees. The work was absolutely immaculate. The team was incredibly professional. Thrift stores are meant to serve community members who are struggling and help meet basic needs. Adding the word "vintage" to the name doesn't seem like it should justify doubling prices. It feels concerning that an organization that claims to support children may now be putting additional strain on families who are already having a hard time, especially when the merchandise is donated. The shift reminds me of the pricing philosophy at Goodwill Industries International, which is one reason I stopped shopping there. I used to be a weekly customer. Now I only stop in occasionally if I happen to be nearby. Overall, this has been very disappointing.
