Being a huge fan of milkshakes, I knew I had to visit this place. Even though it's a chain (I tend to avoid chains when I travel), it is only in the Pittsburgh area so it was new to me. Also, I heard great things about it from locals. The interior was spacious, shiny, and clean with a few seats and tables by the windows. For my milkshake, I picked the S'mores one, which is a toasted marshmallow shake with hot fudge and graham crackers, topped with whipped cream and a piece of signature chocolate. The presentation was lovely, boasting a pale brown base, with marshmallow fluff and hot fudge sauce showing in the middle. It tasted absolutely delectable! The milkshake was perfectly thick, delightfully rich, wonderfully creamy, and I loved the sweet, bold flavor of the marshmallow base. There were strong notes of velvety smooth chocolate, and bits of delicate graham cracker flavor throughout. The whipped cream added to the yumminess, as did the super cute milk chocolate piece. There were a decent variety of shakes, though I would have liked to see a coffee based one. I'm happy I got to try this place out. We have been to a few different locations of The Milkshake Factory now. This one can be tricky to find parking sometimes due to location but usually isn't too bad. When we stopped in it was fairly busy. The tables were all occupied and there was a line for shakes. I will say they tend to keep the line moving pretty quickly as they have a few employees knocking out shakes and another ringing everyone up. There are lots of chocolate bark and candy options tempting you as you wait in line. Some look very good. I did not get anything on this visit though. I had stopped in for a Jake shake. It's a great deal (1/2 off the day after Guentzel scores) and it is delicious. Rich and fudge. You can tell it's made with quality ingredients. I just took the shake to go as it was loud and very bright so not my place to hang inside. read more

But the classic chocolate milkshake was just what I needed the classic is five dollars and they're gourmet milkshakes or seven dollars. There's only one size available so that makes ordering very easy. Milkshakes are made to order and typically take 2 to 3 minutes give or take depending on how busy they are luckily when I've been there I've not had to wait long at all. Overall, it was just okay. Prices are a little higher than average, sundaes are around $10 and milkshakes are $8-9. I do think this place is pretty overhyped. My favorite is the brownie sundae which has all the important elements - creamy vanilla ice cream, warm chocolate fudge, chewy brownie pieces, and just enough airy whipped cream. They've now expanded to at least three locations and this is their latest one. And might I add the closest to me thus far. I've come here twice and I've enjoyed each time. When you enter, you place your order via touchscreens. There are plenty of possibilities, flavors and even dairy-free options. During my first trip I tried the Salted Caramel Brownie Sundae and the Dairy-Free Coffee Shake during my second trip. Both were delicious and memorable. The physical store itself is absolutely beautiful and unique in decor. Next to stores like Homage, Warby Parker and Honey Grow, I still struggle with this area. Great news for my tastebuds - bad news for my wallet and waistline. This Milkshake Factory is exactly what I expected based on my visits to other locations. The space is bright and clean. There's chocolate for sale in addition to their milkshakes. And the milkshakes come in a variety of flavors and styles. There are "gourmet" shakes (think S'mores and Chocolate Dipped Strawberry and so forth), classics (i.e. vanilla), and even dairy-free and vegan options. If you want to take your ice cream game up a level, you can also go for their sundaes. As if that wasn't enough, you can find specials here on a regular basis. They have an amazing shake during hockey season, for example; and since the weather is getting cold, they're about to roll out the richest and most delicious hot chocolate I've ever had. I know I'll be back for that! I know some people are put off by their prices, but for the quality of shake they produce, I'm happy to pay up a little extra occasionally.
