MilkShake Factory is a family-owned business that sells many flavors of delicious milkshakes and chocolates. It was founded in Pittsburgh in 1914 and is spreading its franchises across the country. This particular location is in Cranberry Township. When I entered the business and began to look at the display cases and menus, two employees very courteously greeted me. I purchased three small chocolates for $17 plus tax and tip. Here are my ratings for what I bought: Dubai-style chocolate bar - 3.5 stars - I have eaten Dubai chocolate for a while now, and this one was not as authentic and flavorful as one that I ate from New York City, but it was still good. Chocolate-dipped toffee stroopwafel - 5 stars - This stroopwafel tasted like other stroopwafels that I have eaten, and I liked its chocolate dip. Stopped in for a liquid lunch this weekend. The service was fast and efficient. They have some nice seating inside. Great selection of treats! Hard decide what to get. I settled on trying the chocolate raspberry shake which has great flavor but I don't like the chocolate chips in it because they aren't blended rather just mixed in. I personally don't like to have to "chew" a shake (personal preference!) but the flavor of the shake is amazing overall. I was a little sad mine wasn't as filled up as my son's, lol. My son tried the special edition - cake pop shake and didn't love it. In fact he didn't finish it, he didn't realize it would have chunks of cake in it not blended he thought it would be blended and cake flavored. I absolutely adore this place. The interiors are super duper fancy, it makes you feel like you are in a literal chocolate factory. The lighting is emaculate and the seating is extra comfy! The menu is somewhat confusing, but as I have frequented this place I knew what I wanted . We ordered the Jake's Shake with his #59 chocolate on top! It was the perfect chocolate hatrick and we couldn't have asked for more. We could taste everything, hot fudge, cookies and cream and brownies. We had to stop ourselves from finishing the drink in 1 sip and actually enjoy it. The shake came to us very quickly, the server was quick and made sure we had what we wanted. I love milkshakes, especially when they are think and full of chocolate - just like this one! We came here at the end of the day, the place was still packed with customers. They have enough seating for the people who are waiting to grab their orders. The whole ambience is bright and attractive. I had the pleasure of trying them around 6-7 years ago and have been craving them since and they did not disappoint but actually blew me away again!!You can Taste the freshness in the shake! Absolutely delicious! Plus I had the pleasure of meeting two new Franchise Owners bringing them to Cary & Durham NC in August. Watch out NC......you are in for a treat. Check them out in August 2024 near the Durham Bulls stadium. I am going to try and great them the weekend they open! My lactose intolerance doesn't keep me away from a good milkshake. I've been going to different Milkshake Factories since the very beginning when it was just their shop in the Southside. Sure, these will run you $8-10 per milkshake, but they consistently refresh their menu and constantly introduce seasonal options. The staff is typically young at this location but fast and friendly. Plus, I'm a sucker for the old school vibe they've designed in their shops. This review would be rounded out with a fifth star if they ever decide to bring back the dark chocolate version of their "terrapins" as the milk chocolate isn't quite as good. read more

I'm prefacing this updated review with-the shakes & sundaes taste fine & look beautiful. The interior is large & clean. But my problem is that this place in my opinion is SO over priced. A sundae was $10.02 with tax & then they want you to tip them too! That's nuts. I mean if you brought three people in there for shakes or ice cream sundaes you're paying well over $30-that's insane for ice cream. You can drive up Rt 19 to Dairy Queen & get a large Blizzard bigger than this sundae for $5.79. Or better yet you can drive farther up Rt 19 to the Meadows & get fresh made custard in a custom sundae for $7-8, and a large shake for $6.49. Money better spent. read more

Lots of good combinations of ice cream, sundaes and fillings. We had milkshakes, and they were delicious. There are also chocolate pretzels, cookies, brittles, barks...you name it. Novelties such as chocolate hockey pucks and baseball stitched cookies are great, including chocolate covered bacon! Great to get and take. This is a must-stop when you're in the area. You can eat in the dining area or carry out. Now, being the holidays there were gift boxes of chocolates for sale. I'm happy to have a location so close to me to get a cup of hot cocoa which I believe is the best in town on this usual April 1st snow day. I picked up some easter candy for family, too, for famil and was thrilled they were not completely out yet. I lucked out and didn't have to wait to order. Within minutes a crowd stepped inside to get some milkshakes. I've been to a couple different locations before but tonight was my first time at the Cranberry location. There were quite a few people ahead of us but I was impressed by how efficiently they got people's orders and moved them through the line. It's a little bit of a maze to follow the socially distances line to the pickup counter, but I was glad to see that they are taking Covid precautions seriously and making sure it's a safe experience for all. Tonight I got the limited-edition mint cookies and cream and while it certainly isn't the most exotic of the offerings, it was still very good and had a good consistency to the shake. This is probably the 6th location of the Milkshake factory I've been to and their quality remains the same-Delicious! Using Rivendale ice cream as their base they off traditional, non-dairy, and specialized milkshakes as well as Sundaes. The only two ice cream flavors they have are vanilla and chocolate. Any other flavor listed is made to taste that way. No matter which location you visit the menu remains the same. Occasionally they will add a seasonal flavor but for the most part the menu is standard. My favorite shake is the bananas foster. Made with vanilla ice cream it is mixed with caramel and real bananas and topped with a piece of chocolate covered caramel on top of the whipped cream as a finishing touch. All shakes come topped with a piece of their signature chocolate. It's so good and usually my go to shake if I can't decide. They do have one honoring a Pittsburgh penguin called "Jake's shake" and a good array of flavors to choose from. Speaking of chocolates they have a lot to choose from and you can get specialty boxes for Valentine's day or chocolate bark if so inclined. Everything here is currently take out due to Co-Vid guidelines. They have a one way directional indicator as to the path you need to follow and you exit out the side of the building. Cash as well as cards are accepted. They have gift certificates as well. The Milkshake factory has other locations in the city, East end, North Hills, airport area, and their flagship location in the Southside. Am hoping someday they will open one in the South Hills area. Fantastic milk shakes. Went in for the first time yesterday. The shakes were incredible and rich. I had The bananas Foster shake. I liked it a lot. Very rich and pretty heavy. My son had the chocolatier shake. He loved it but was only able to finish about 1/2 of it because it was sooo rich. I think the brownies in it did him in. My daughter got some chocolates while we were there. Their chocolates are every bit as good as their shakes. If you like chocolate and shakes this place is for you. If you are on a diet. One of our favorite places! We were so excited when the Cranberry location opened. We love all the seating options, and they have a nice little outdoor section (for when the weather is nice!). The shakes are a bit expensive, but they are so rich, my husband and I usually split one. Our faves are chocolate peanut butter and chocolate banana, but the best one is the hot chocolate only available in the winter! Yes, they have a few gourmet, and the "plain" flavors. But over all, I think they could add a few options. The only other drawback is the cost. I like to support "local", and appreciate "quality" ingredients. However, nearly $50 for 4 milkshakes and a cup of hot chocolate, plus "tip" Seems more of a "novelty", instead of a regular place to visit. read more

First arrived at 9:40pm and the employee locked the doors. Five people wanted to get in to get a shake and they would not allow to come in. They were extremely upset. Next we come here twice a week on average. Today was the Jake shake special and the girl Casey would not give me the special on two almond milk Jake shakes. My kids have lactose problems and that why I get them made with almond milk. The girl Casey did not want to give me the special price. Every other time we come in we get the special price. This girl was a smart mouth talking back to me and was beyond rude. She told me if I don't like it go somewhere else. Incredible rude to a paying customer with a family of 6. To bad your video camera can not hear the audio of this disrespectful girl. I guess Casey don't have to worry about pay your staff and rent every month. Very disappointing experience. First of all, the milkshakes were great! But there were a couple very annoying things at the store that could be fixed easily to get a five star rating. Before I could pay I was asked how much I would like to tip. 20%? 0%? Or other. (What exactly would I be tipping for? Does anyone tip at McDonald's or Burger King or Dairy Queen?) But regardless of how you feel about tipping don't ask me before I even pay, that's annoying. Also, there's a code lock on the bathroom door as if we're in an inner-city restaurant that homeless people would try to get into use the bathroom. We're in cranberry for goodness sake where it's mostly going to be moms with their kids who don't have time to ask for a code for the bathroom. Again really annoying. If the store could make a few adjustments this would be a five star, again the milkshakes are awesome maybe they could have a couple size options that aren't so huge. My family visited tonight at 9pm and ordered 3 shakes. There were 3 other customers sitting in the section that was marked closed so we sat on the other side. Once I sat down, an employee came over and asked me to move because "these booths were closed." So we went to the other side where more booths were and she told us they were closed as well. We had no idea where we could sit. So we just left feeling very unwelcome. We will never go back. We get much better service and value at King Cones in Butler. i don't think it would take an employee that long to wipe down our table after we left. Very rude person!!!! read more

Yummy Milkshakes! If you can wait (the lines are usually long) you will be rewarded with a delicious Milkshake! The Milkshake Factory has three tiers if Milkshakes to select from. 1. Normal no frills shakes like a plain vanilla, strawberry, chocolate etc. I believe these are around $6 2. In between from the normal to premium, like chocolate banana or strawberry banana. I believe these were about $7 3. The premium blended shakes, like bananas foster. Which are topped with whipped cream and a fancy chocolate. I believe these start at $8 They also sell a few ice cream options as well as fancy chocolates that are pretty expensive. I cannot forget to mention that they use Riverdale Ice Creams for the shakes, not only is it a local ice cream company, it's absolutely delicious! The highest turnover of employees seen to date with almost 0 retention. This is the result of improper training, focusing on trends not experience and the lack of ability to find and recruit the right fit. The shakes are very good, best one I've had is the chocolate strawberry. The only problem I have is they are not very big. For $7, I wouldn't expect my 80 lb daughter to ask for another one after finishing her shake in 5 minutes. A $7 shake should be a couple more ounces. Think about what a $7 plus tip shake would get you at Burgatory, or any other restaurant in the area? I'm not sure if it's a 12 or 16 ounce cup, but it should be 20 for the price.
