I have eaten here plenty in the past with nothing but great experiences. Last night was beyond bad. I ordered a prime rib with a side of the potato and clam chowder. The clam chowder was so salty it was not good at all. It got sent back. The waiter offered a salad to his credit. When the prime rib got there (ordered med rare) the outsides were well done and the insides were raw masked by a short sear in a frying pan. This I sent back only to replaced by the exact same thing. Only seared a tiny bit more. This is where I learned that Hubba bubba has a roast beef flavor. It was an absolute chew piece of meat. They saved money on seasonings by not using any. Maybe they used up all of the salt in the soup? I brought 98% of the steak home for dog treats. I could have complained again but with two fails the third attempt wasn't going to get better. Service was good but hard to be great with a bad kitchen. Two other tables next to us had food sent back to the kitchen as well. Sad to see this place hit rock bottom. read more

We had been traveling all day. Stopped in to have dinner at the Mill there was 4 of us. They sat us down gave us drinks and bread. And the manager said she would be right back. But she never did she would go to the table next to us. Finally after 45 minutes we decided to go. It was then that she saw us leaving and we asked for the bill she said 25.00. And handed it off to another lady. No sorry nothing just very rude. I asked the lady checking us out who the manager was and she pointed to the other lady and said she was. There was another couple that got there before us that also walked out. Very disappointed with first impressions of the Mill and will never go back or recommend the place. 20+ yrs of business from us.... never returning. Reservation at 7pm for 4 adults. Didn't receive our coffees until 755 & was served curdled creamer. Needed new coffees because we didn't know it was bad until taking a drink-surprise! Waitress didn't believe us because the cream "looked" normal but when she smelled what was unused she said "ohh, yeppp.... that's definitely bad!"". Had to wait another 20 min to get coffees & she continued to serve every other table but ours, despite our 7pm reservation &despite waiting over an hour for basic beveridges. Finally received the water that we asked for 1hr & 20min later (from diff server that we stopped). Apps were fine but salad had tiny rotted plum tomatoes that "looked" normal at 1st glance, but 2 of us ate a couple before realizing they were bad like the creamer. Aporoached 1 hr and 30 min AFTER ordering our food that they ran out of baked potato & asked to select something else, which we did. Dinner served at 850....3 of 4 entres inedible...pilaf looked like microwaved rice that had sat on the counter a few hours after dinner. Veggies were savagely overcooked and minimal in volume. , 3 of the 4 meals had meat that was drastically overcooked and honestly tasted reheated....we each felt the meat had a microwave texture and taste. In total honesty, each meal was about $40.00 or more, & the price was not an issue, but the quality and experience was less appealing than old gas station food. . Still no bread given to us during appetizer, salad or main. Server completely neglecting us throughout meal yet other tables were being cared for by other wait staff, and turned over without problem. When asked if food was okay we conveyed that we were NOT ok with what was delivered but fearful of how long it would take to fix it. The waitresses's attitude was so aggressive & confrontational that we told her we would try to make it work....but after a few bites, it was just horrible despite being hungry. All were different entrees. I got up from the table to discretely seek management & was told by blonde hostess in hot pink shirt that our waitress in black & white stripes was the manager on duty. Mid 40s maybe? I asked to speak to her in private about the overall experience & asked her to comp atleast one of the uneaten meals. She agreed & turned her back to me without hesitation & walked directly to our table at breakneck speed. She shocked me when she aggressively interrupted the conversation of my seated guests by putting her hand on the table to command their attention & asked with a loud accusatory voice "so is everyone's food bad??". It was unprofessional, tactless & flat out nasty. My guests did not respond & looked up at her in shocked, to which the mngr waved her hand in the air, turned her back again & stated loudy "fine! You owe nothing! You can just leave" as she turned her back on us & started to walk away in a hurry. I said " Wait a minute! We are not looking for freebies here! We will happily pay for the food we consumed that was edible (2 coffees, 1 lemonade, salad, 2 appetizers, 1 entree, but the rest of this has been simply horrible." She turned her back (again) & walked away stating loudly that we owed nothing. ((Not in an apologetic and genuine way but as a means of trying to completely embarrass myself & my guests or an attempt to make us feel like freeloaders)). News flash ma'am, we can afford much better but refuse to eat rotted, curdled, petrified food, & do not tip hostile waitress managers. Who taught you to treat people this way?? A few seconds later she returned & asked if we needed to go boxes, to which everyone simply said 'no thank you'. Food was left on the table nearly how it was served. Been going to The Mill 20+ yrs. Old school steak house. For me the food was exactly what I wanted an expected from and old times steakhouse. The wine was so so but the service and good made up for it. We came to The Mill for a friends birthday dinner and overall we were left with a bad impression of this place. The service was nice but slow. I had the Perfect Margarita and it was far from perfect for the $14. The waitress recommended the trout but from the first bite it was extremely fishy and gross. The vegetable of the evening was brussel sprouts drowned in some sauce. I barely ate my $32 meal. We were going all out so one of our group ordered the king crab legs without asking the market price. When we got the bill we noticed she was charged $80. Seriously, how in the world can a plate of crab legs be $80?!? Another member of our group ordered the fettuccine and didn't enjoy it. It was Olive Garden quality but $30. The prime rib sandwich and the prime rib entree were good. It took about twenty minutes for our server to bring checks and by that time we were all antsy to leave. We ended up going to the front to pay where we witnessed what appeared to be a manager or owner complaining loudly about how the staff "loves to chitchat" when they are busy. The place was nearly empty. He then proceeded to throw the stack of menus he was carrying onto a table aggressively. Overall just very unprofessional and awkward. We won't be back. Overall, this is a pretty cool place that has a pretty solid ambiance. It all started out pretty well, the salads were generous and we'll proportioned. We had ordered both calamari and a shrimp cocktail as appetizers. The calamari was seriously tired and the shrimp cocktail was 6 pieces short of something that came from Albertsons. Dinner was better for the most part with the medallions, Ribeye, and Prime Rib. The highlight of the evening was my friend cutting his finger at the table on a random shard of glass. If we were expecting sympathy or understanding for a random hazard at the table, that was short lived. The waitress did bring a band aid and dropped it off, but dismissed the whole encounter as if it was an alien landing on our table like a random UFO sighting, as if it was understandable because it was something beyond her control. read more

My wife and I were hoping for pizza, but the place we'd selected was closed. Another pizza place across the highway from The Mill was a bit crowded, so we decided on The Mill. Given the number of people we'd seen in town earlier in the day, we were a bit surprised to be able to walk in and get a table. Long story short - service was great from start to finish, wine selection was decent, and our proteins were pretty good (my wife had the prime rib and I had the trout). Unfortunately, our side dish was terrible - overcooked baked green beans drowned in butter with a glob of cold cheese on top. Our appetizer was pretty questionable as well - shrimp skewers - the shrimp was cooked nicely, but they were drenched in a very thick and strong teriyaki. A light garlic and butter drizzle would have been much better. The salad was average. The bottle of wine we purchased was reasonably priced; however, the meal was definitely overpriced. Disappointing! Our Old Fashioneds were so watered down that the drink was almost clear in color. Sent it back and the waitress made them again. Marginally better but still watered down with club soda(?) - who does that!!! Our prime rib (ordered medium rare) came out dry, tasteless, and cooked to medium-well. Agree with Mike's review on 1/2/23! Amazing place, superb service, superb food and great atmosphere. We arrived at 10:30 pm (they close at 11) on a Tuesday night. We were the only ones there apart from one other couple who only had drinks. They could have easily been said they're closed, could have not treated us well, been annoyed---but we got very friendly and attentive service and the food came out in taste and appearance just as if it was 11 am and they had just opened and were fresh in. We were very hesitant due to some of the negative reviews but at the recommendation of a trusted friend we bravely put one foot in front of the other and stepped into the establishment. We were seated in the dinning room after given the choice of bar area or dinning room. The music being played was in stark contrast to the country decor as LL Cool J busted his lyrical rhymes. It was nearly enough to change our minds. Then our waitress kindly informed us that the dinning room didn't actual open for another 15 minutes. We elected to stay and promptly at 5:30 the station of choice was flipped to a suitable era. Ahhhh that feels much better! The food was excellent, even though a bit on the pricey side, it is what you would expect from a steakhouse in McCall. The service was friendly and prompt. We were the only ones in the joint for nearly our entire stay, but that is understandable on the shoulder season. I imagine a Friday night mid summer this place may have a wait. No worries the attached bar is a great place to enjoy a spirit while you pass the time waiting for a table. Disregard all of the negative reviews... this joint is making a solid effort to win your loyalty. Expect to drop some coin... but hey, it's McCall and things aren't cheap. The decor of the restaurant is authentically Mill equipment from yesteryears. We were promptly greeted, seated and drink orders taken. Our waitress was pleasant and willing to make recommendations. We ordered 2 rib eye steak dinners and 2 prime rib dinners. The food was barely average at best. I am sad. I've been coming to The Mill for over 30 years, this last meal was absolutely one of the worst I've had anywhere, at anytime. It was supposed to be a New Years celebration but instead turned into a waste of money with zero value received. The 6 of us were seated immediately and water brought to our table. We ordered a few appetizers and drinks and settled into the conversations of good friends who hadn't seen each other in a long time. Our drinks from the bar were slow in arriving and later we'd discover that our server was also the single bartender for the entire restaurant. Needless to say she was a tad bit preoccupied. Our starters were poppers and clams. The poppers were overcooked and dry, and the clams lacked flavor and depth. $18 for the clams was money wasted. Most of us had ordered a steak or the medallions, which came out of the kitchen decent enough, but that was it. The vegetables were over cooked and cold. One of my dining companions ordered the trout which turned out to be the mistake of the evening. It came out cold, dry, and as rubbery as a dog toy. When he asked for a replacement, the replacement trout also came out cold and dry, with the added bonus of missing his original sides. It's like they just didn't care. read more

Stayed in town for a ski trip, the choice to go to the mill did not disappoint. We went for Valentine's Day and the staff was very attentive and friendly. A waitress and waiter approached us immediately when we sat down asking if we needed anything. I ordered the broiled shrimp with a Cesar salad and loaded baked potato. I would highly recommend the Cesar salad and my shrimp was excellent! There was a couple behind us who were disappointed with how their food turned out. But I believe it was a misjudgment on the order choice by the customer. A steak was ordered and they were disappointed with the taste and how undercooked it was. It seemed they did not typically order steak. The atmosphere was very neat as well. Lots of decor and interesting things to look at. Reminded me of a supper club out in Wisconsin. Overall great experience, I would highly recommend giving this place a chance if you are in town! read more

On our way home from cutting firewood out of cascade and we were starving and wanted to treat ourselves after the hard work in this heat we decided to eat here. When we walked in in our dirt jeans and boots with work T-shirts on the staff was definitely judging us for not being dressed nicer to go into their 'fancy restaurant' they seated us after making us wait 15 minutes when the place was nearly empty. My husband order the French dip and the sandwich was good but the au jus was almost tasteless. I was going to order the Alaskan king crab legs which on the menu it said it was $44 and the waiter told me sorry but those have gone up in price to $80 so I had to change my order. I was that guy; I showed up 20 minutes before they officially closed, and on a Sunday night to boot. I was out of options aside from a gas station meal or The Mill, and gas station was definitely last resort. I felt so bad about showing up without a reservation that close to closing time, and I definitely noticed that they were tempted to turn me away. HOWEVER, they chose to seat me, and cannot express how thankful I was, and greatful for how well they treated me, by ensuring I still had the full experience. My waitress made me feel so comfortable, and even threw another log on their big fire for me, even though I was the last one there and the existing fire was real close to burning out on its own. Their was a man playing live piano as well who seemed ready to pack it up when I walked in, but he stayed too when he noticed I was staying for food and continued to play the most amazing acoustics. I wish I could give him a shoutout as well. I was blown away by the entire experience I had, and the way I was treated as a customer. I ordered their Fettuccine Alfredo, and added in their giant garlic butter shrimp. IT WAS AMAZING!!! The moscow mule I ordered was on point as well, and definitely well made. Lastly, the atmosphere in there is a 10/10 even though I was the only person there. You can tell the people who work there love their jobs, the decor/theme is really warm/comfy while entertaining at the same time with really decorations and fun things to look at. I wish I could give them 20 stars. I've well traveled the United States and the World, and love going to good restaurants. Having a great ding experience is one of my favorite things in life, and something I enjoy doing as a hobby of sort. Of all the restaurants I've been to; This was my best dining experience I've ever had, even though I was a last minute walk in customer. I will come back again, in fact I am eager to. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT. Definitely make a reservation and don't stop in last minute like I did though. I'm sure they would appreciate that. read more

Came in for some drinks. The bartender didn't even acknowledge us for over 5 minutes, even though it was very slow. I watched her make my drink and she put maybe half a shot in. She was clearly inebriated, was slurring her words, and came back twice asking what drinks we had ordered.
