Mixed reviews from the family about this restaurant leads me to change my rating from a 5 to a 3. I…read morereally loved my watermelon gazpacho but my husband and son both said their burger was tasteless. The restaurant was able to accommodate our family of 14 and serve us with ease and speed which was a plus! Easy parking in a lot down the block which is free on evenings and weekends. Our server was lovely and helpful. I'll try somewhere else next time.

It was all edible, but there were problems with every single thing we ordered. We started with the marinated mushroom & sausage flatbread: one of the better items and fairly tasty with a tomato sauce base, could have used a tart element like a balsamic drizzle to wake it up a bit. My husband got the Korean bbq burger, which at $27 was honestly a bit insane and doubly so when it wasn't good. There's not a single thing that was wrong, the whole conception is an epic fail. A beef burger should not have an intense taste of soy. Sorry, harsh but true. The exorbitant price is insult to injury. The ham and cheese croquettes should never have been offered with the cinnamon sugar dusting. Another bizarre pairing that makes no sense in your mouth and adds nothing. The dijonnaise was good if a bit mild... amp up the savory flavor and put more ham in the mix with a touch more salt please. Finally, the Public Salad was a good base but needs a bit of a vinegar component to make it sing. I'd recommend red wine vinegar, just a small splash in the dressing. Overall enjoyed it and the chicken was adequately moist. Thank you for having us.

We were really looking forward to dining here and had saved this restaurant as the culmination of…read moreour trip to the Berkshires. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We arrived for our reservation and were offered a very small two-top. Because we were dining with our dog, we politely asked if it would be possible to wait for a larger table where she would not be in the way of other guests or staff. We were not demanding a different table -- we were told it would take approximately 30 minutes for another table in a different section to become available, and we happily said we were willing to wait. We sat quietly outside with our dog while waiting. The owner then approached us and told us that waiting for another table would interfere with future seating. We were surprised by this, as we had simply accepted the wait time that was provided to us and had not caused any disruption. The interaction escalated when the owner used profanity toward my husband and threw the water bowl that had been provided for our dog in our direction. We were shocked by the hostility and left without eating. We completely understand that restaurants have to manage reservations and seating, and we would have accepted being told that our request could not be accommodated. What was unacceptable was the way we were spoken to and treated by the owner. We came here excited to spend our money at this restaurant as part of our trip, but we are grateful that Great Barrington has many other excellent establishments where we were welcomed and happy to spend our money instead. Unfortunately, this experience was the opposite of the hospitality we expected.

This place used to be great and it was always our first stop in GB but…read more it has fallen off a cliff. I told the owner Mark how awful the service was and he was completely indifferent. Couldn't bring himself to apologize. Here's what you endure: 1. Waitress brings a carafe of water but no glasses. You have to ask twice. Later when soup is dropped off you have to wait for the server to return so you can ask for a spoon. 2. Lots of specials are no longer available. Then why are they still on the board? Your waitress lists what they're out of so you decide to have the sandwich. "We're out of that too." OKAAAY 3. You want a salad without nuts and you indicated that when you made the reservation and the menu says clearly "Please notify your server if you have any allergies." Your waitress says it's not possible to make accommodations. You have to ask three times before she puts in the order. 4. You've been enjoying cocktails--which are great--but it's been an hour and food still hasn't arrived (it's 8:45 and restaurant is mostly empty). Your busser shows up to see if we're done and need any more plates taken away. No, you politely say, you need your entrees. 5. You wonder aloud for the third time if your server has left for the night. 6. You're not offered dessert or anything else. You can't wait to leave a place you used to love. You won't go back.

We did get there slightly before 5pm which allowed us a quieter atmosphere for the first part of our meal. We ordered the mushroom and fennel sausage flat bread for an appetizer. It was amazingly flavorful and had super fresh mozzarella. We also both had a cup of the cold pea soup. It was thick and creamy and had a beautiful presentation. For our main meal, my husband ordered the salmon. He said that everything was cooked perfectly and it was quite flavorful. I had the public burger and truffle fries. The burger was juicy and huge! The fries were nicely seasoned. The service was great, as well. Our waitress was attentive and the manager came by and spoke with us, as well. Don't miss this place if you're looking for a delicious meal!

We had meatballs, fries, bread, and pasta arrabiata con pancetta. The meatballs @13.95 are a bargain for three large meatballs. Regrettably, they were cold and oversalted. The pasta arrabiata was soupy and underwhelming. Just too many things going on. The sauce was too loose and the flavors did not blend well. Almost no pancetta. The highlights of the meal were very good bread and butter and the fries, which are reliably very good (if you get them while hot). But to pay $55.00 pre tip and all one can say is that the bread and fries were good is a tad problematic.
