Have been here many times before and had a great experience... but today was awful. We sat outside on the front patio.. and they told us we would have to order our food and drinks inside, which was fine since we figured they were short staffed. They brought our pizza and appetizers out in to go containers. One of us went inside and asked for silverware and plates. They told us we couldn't have plates or silverware since the order for disposables had not come in for them. Oh, and we were only allowed to order 1 pizza since we were on the patio. We walked out the back way and they also had people eating outside in the back yard area. They all had plastic silverware and plates and were not eating off of their pizza box ! It has been too long since we have visited the Mitten! We came in at 4pm on a Wednesday evening for dinner - we were able to get a table right away. The tap list is much larger than i remember - lots of variety on it! The coconut porter was AMAZING. Hands down my favorite! Pizza was absolutely fantastic - few burnt spots but those dont bother me! Their ranch is delicious, too - if you are a ranch fiend like me! Pretzel app was small but super yummy - out toddler devoured it. Baseball on TV - noise isn't super loud - service was fast and friendly. What really impressed me was the bill - for 4 beers, a pizza, and a pretzel app - it was only $30.75! The outdoor dining area was beautiful and I appreciated the changes made to keep people safe during COVID-19. We utilized their online menu via a QR code at the table and plastic utensils given to us. There was hand sanitizer at every table and everyone was spaced safely apart. The food was fantastic, the Pizza Flight fed my family of 3 and we had left-overs to take home. They were charging $1 for water, but it was bottled. read more

This is a great local place in the Grand Rapids area. A mask is required to enter, go to the restroom, and get seated at your table. They have both indoor and outdoor seating with tables spread out. From start to finish, service was great. My friend and I were immediately seated and drink order taken. We bother ordered the on tap sangria along with the pizza flight. If you are hungry and looking to try their variety of pizzas, I highly recommend the flight. The Margherita and hog heaven I believe it was called were my two faves. Next up, I ordered the bean ball blonde. I was surprised by the coffee taste but overall a tasty brew. This place should definitely be on your places to go to if in the area. To-go order. There's a window outside where you are supposed to pick up a to-go order. Sign on window said if during lunch hours, go inside to see bartender. It was 3:40 pm, after lunch hours so I waited at the window for a bit but when I realized no one was attending the window, I got the hint and walked inside to see the bartender. Waited for at least 10 min at the bar while bartender cashed out a table of four and while he was watching soccer on the television behind him. I stood at the bar without being even acknowledged the entire time. Finally, he realizes I'm standing there and says hello. I told him I was here for a to-go order. He went to the back and got my order and I went on my way. I placed an order for a salad, a pizza and roasted peanuts. I didn't get roasted peanuts. The salad was fine but way smaller than I expected for the price. The pizza was a mess. The pieces didn't fit properly in the box so they just threw a couple of them on top of the others. I chose a pizza where you pick four different types which make up one pizza. I chose the special of the week, Margherita, chicken pesto and pepperoni. Honestly, having never eaten here before, I felt like they saved 1/4 of each pizza from yesterday's leftovers to make up this pizza. The pepperoni and Margherita were greasy all the way through the crust as if it had been sitting for a long time. The other two just didn't taste fresh. And the special this week is a Mac and cheese base with broccoli and crispy fried onions on top. I thought it sounded interesting....but nooooo, don't even try it! Absolutely inedible. This was my first visit and likely my last. I would like to be reimbursed for at least the peanuts I didn't receive. I won't hold my breath though. Lesson learned. Update: Called the Mitten and spoke with Braiden. He said he's not a manager and can't take money off my bill (I didn't ask for anything to be removed except for the item I didn't receive) and that the reason for the poor quality is because he knows who made it and that person is new. So there you go....I got my $3 back from not receiving an item but no apology at all for the poor quality other than an explanation of why it was poor quality. Great customer service! read more

I can't believe it took me this long to make it to the Mitten! I really wish they were closer to the center of downtown so I could walk. Even on a Sunday night, there was about a 30min wait. The dining area is pretty small so the tables fill up quickly. They have some seats available to wait as well as barrels to stand around while enjoying a drink until the table is ready. We tried to impossible burger as well as a pizza flight. As a plant based burger, the impossible burger was actually pretty impressive. The Pizza flight is something I was excited to try. It was hard to choose 6 different specialty pizzas because they all sound unique and amazing. We ended up going with the westerdog, Thai Cobb, pesto chicken, hog heaven, Margherita, and the Mac daddy. Our favorite of the 6 was probably the Thai Cobb or westerdog. Don't get me wrong, they were all interesting and tasty. As a baseball fan, this place was awesome to walk around and read some of the Tigers memorabilia. They have old 1984 newspapers framed and signed jerseys. Overall, this might be one of my favorite breweries in Grand Rapids! read more

I visited Mitten Brewing Company on a cold, rainy Thursday evening around 9:30 pm. There was a decent crowd on hand. I secured a spot at the end of the bar and looked over the beer menu. I opted to do a tasting flight and selected the following Ales: Mitten Pale Ale (5.3% ABV) Relief Session IPA (4.5% ABV) Country Strong IPA (7.0% ABV) Dock's No-No DIPA (9.0% ABV) '84 Imperial Red IPA (8.4% ABV) The beer is served on a wooden beer tray that is the "Mitten" or the shape of Michigan. All of the Ales were tasty and well executed - with the exception of the Country Strong IPA. I am an IPA fan - and this one came across as flat and weak. I asked the bartender about it - she tasted it and agreed. I think they changed out the keg - and she gave me another one to try - it seemed like it was better, but by then my palate was a bit "wrecked." Will have to return and try that one first next time I am in town. I enjoyed all of the other Ales - I'd order a Pint of any of them and enjoy them! Beware of one of the bartenders - I ordered a glass of water as well - and she attempted to douse me with it - but due to my quick reflexes, I managed to evade her attack. Just kidding, she knocked over the glass - and all the water missed me for the most part - but I did take advantage of the opportunity to tease her about it the rest of the night! Okay now this place is cool... We were looking for something family friendly that serves beer because well, I love beer and we came across this place. I don't normally go to pizza places, I go to American food or sea food places but I am glad we decided to come here. The place is nicely decorated, clean, a little cramped but laid out well, and has an awesome fun vibe to it. Kid friendly which was a bonus for us. Now here the cool part. We ordered a beer flight to try a few diff beers but who knew...wait for it...a pizza flight to go with it!!! Yes that's right. Very cool idea. It's a pizza with 4 diff kinds so you can try them all much like a beer flight and they were all really good. The wait was short, the service was good, and the food was even better. i loved everything about my experience! came in on a saturday night and enjoyed a pizza and mango beer by myself! the atmosphere was light and happy. my pizza was absolutely delicious and the beer recommended by my waitress was so good. there's street parking that could easily fill up on a busy day but i was able to find a spot quickly. all pizzas come in one size and they all sound so tasty! you can get a flight of beer and pizza which is a great option! will definitely be back. read more

Started with the dough-nuts. Franks red hot and blue cheese crumbles. Good qty and delicious. Main Course - margherita with jalapeños. Top 10 pizza of anywhere I have had pizza. We didn't want to dive right into pizza, so we ordered the wings. Baked, not deep fried. Very tender, but not rubbery. Well seasoned and HUGE. We had a few minutes wait when we got their but it was shorter than we were told when we arrived. Use the join wait list on the yelp app, it helps. Service was very quick & efficient. It's mostly pizza & we each had one, both of us took almost half home, they're big enough for 2 unless you're both big eaters. The pizzas were good, thin crust but the sauce is a little bland. However there's a shaker on the table with Italian seasoning in it that helped add the flavor I like. The place is in an area of town that has seen better days but it didn't feel unsafe. Amazing food! The pretzel and pizzas were outstanding. I stayed away from the beer as I know in the past it hasn't been the greatest, but the food is out of this world. I've been to Mitten twice now - first for just drinks, and this time, just for pizza. Both times, we've had great service while sitting at the bar! I love how many beers they have on tap, and I appreciate that they also have a cider, wine, and a draft root beer. It's also really cool that they have a beer that when purchased, a $1 goes to a charity. However, I wish they had a more exciting non-alcoholic option other than sugary root beer or diet fountain soda. An idea for them to experiment with in the future is a great tasting NA beer for those abstaining. Reserving the fifth star for this! Aside from drinks, they have a great menu! Tonight we were craving pizza, and remembered Mitten had a pizza flight - so cool! We ordered 6 different pizzas that came on a huge wooden board. Definitely enough to share among four, but the two of us crushed it! Before I break down each sample, I'll say that the crust is delicious. Thin and crispy, which is how I like it! We ordered: 1. Margherita pizza - this is usually my go to pizza when out, but it was my least favorite on the board. It was just missing something. Maybe topping it with a balsamic drizzle would fix the flavors! I'd opt for the Mediterranean instead next time. 2. Field of Greens - this was delicious! Even my boyfriend, who is childlike when it comes to eating veggies, said he really enjoyed all of the flavors! 3. Da Meat Hook - this was good, but too much greasy meat for me to eat more than a small slice. 4. The Heater - this is supposed to be a spicy pizza. It was really good, but I wouldn't say spicy. It has a sweet sauce that balances the heat of the jalapeños very well 5. Curse of the Goat - the waitress said this is her favorite and most popular. The crust was kind of burned on this one for us, so I wasn't a huge fan. Plus, the edges were mostly bread instead of toppings. 6. Chicken and waffles - I've never had the actual meal, but it was dang good on pizza! Not sure I could eat a whole pizza of it, but I really enjoyed the few pieces I sampled today! This was my favorite due to its uniqueness and flavor! We're excited to go back soon and try the Mediterranean and the Pesto Chicken pizzas! read more

A really fun brewery to stop at after an adventure downtown. Remy handled our party of 15 (3 families) like a pro with grace and ease. This past Friday, my brother and I drove in to Grand Rapids from Chicago to visit our sister, who now lives here in Michigan. Once we sat down, we were psyched to pick out our pizzas for our pizza flight experience. My sister let us know that one flight order would easily be enough for the three of us, and we trusted her (she was absolutely right, and we ended up taking home leftovers). Our pizza flavor choices were as follows: Margherita, Westerdog, Mac Daddy, Da Meat Hook, Chicken and Waffles, and the Deluxe. I absolutely loved the Margherita, Meat Hook, and Deluxe flavors, but the uniqueness of the Chicken and Waffles and Mac Daddy TRULY stood out! I was so excited when I learned that we had leftovers later that night, and *still* I cannot stop thinking about that chicken and waffles pizza, several days later. Syrup on pizza strangely cannot go wrong... at least that's what I learned here. Mitten Brewing just does syrup on pizza RIGHT. I also ordered a flight of beers to go along with my pizza, which were all amazing. My favorites were the sours!
