I love it here because it's in walking distance from where I live, and the staff is very friendly. You order at the counter and they will bring it to you when you are seated. Stopped by this unassuming place on the Baylor campus and was blown away. My hubs had the prime rib sandwich and ate every single bite. He said it was so good! I had a sandwich with grilled chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, and herbed cream cheese spread. OH MY! Delicious!! The flavors were perfectly married for a delectable sandwich. We also shared an order of perfectly seasoned waffle fries. Everything was great, even the iced tea. The staff was super friendly and helpful. So glad we stopped at this little cafe. read more

Well this place was disappointing. All of their food is overpriced for the quality and portions of their food. The salads are basically type of leafy greens unless you order a kale salad then they'll throw in some kale, but only the topping change a little bit. The stuffed avocados are something I could easily make in my own kitchen and have before. Refills for coffee will cost ya and they were almost cocky about how good it was because it was french press. It was really just alright. Panera or Newk's will be a more satisfying experience. read more

This place is becoming a Baylor staple. I've eaten here 4 or 5 times, and it's always been good. The following are very good to great: steak quesadilla, Jesse's egg sandwich, Turkey avocado chipotle, the shrimp bisque, and several of the salads. Prices are good, and I REALLY like coming here. This is the kind of mom and pop place people search everywhere for. The owner is always friendly, the food is incredible. They make their own bread, which has a sweet note to it. People love their stuffed chicken avocado and their salads - they have tons of healthy options. Sandwiches are incredible - favorites are the avocado chicken, pesto chicken, and turkey chipotle. The quesadillas are good too. The vibe is charmingly quaint. As a student, I eat here probably twice a week at least and I will miss it so much when I graduate. read more

Great find while passing through town. Visually, I wasn't excited about their house made buns but what a surprise! Really good. The turkey avocado spicy melt (can't recall the name) had great flavor. Not just for shopping as it's category indicates, The Mix is open for lunch and can be reserved for dinner. I had dinner here with a large group (20+) and the food was excellent. Our menu offered a choice between fish and chicken. I had the fish which was well cooked, flaky and tender. Served with tasty wild rice and crisp green beans. All nicely presented and preceded by a salad of mixed greens tossed with pecans, cranberries, and feta cheese with a vinaigrette dressing. We had 5 choices for dessert - all were awesome. I chose "The Beast" a dense, rich flour-less chocolate cake that was superb. All of us enjoyed the meal. The service was good despite our tight quarters. I want to go back and try their lunch menu. Following Yelp suggestions we ordered the chicken pesto sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. Both we excellent, very fresh and the tastes were amazing! The order of sweet potato fries was enough to share between two people when each order an entree. I would go back again just for the bread the sandwich was on, it had an actual flavor that really added to the sandwich. The avocado added an extra creaminess to the sandwich that was really nice. Though the inside was small, it has a cute cafe feel and since it is open to the kitchen you can watch your food being made and know that it is truly made to order. The staff are very nice as well and happy to give suggestions about orders. I am a first-year student at Baylor and love the location, close enough to campus that I could walk there. Because of the small size, be conscious of when you go or plan enough time if you go during a rush hour. I can imagine that it would get busy. I will definitely be going back! read more

The wait was a little questionable. A group of friends and I ordered back to back, but our food came out very staggered. It took probably about 25 minutes for all of our food to come out. I didn't entirely enjoy the pesto quesadilla, I couldn't really taste the pesto. My friends all loved their meals though! Also, the tomato basil soup is not vegetarian which is a little odd so if you're a vegetarian steer clear from the tomato basil soup! The ambiance is nice but the front of the restaurant gets a little smoky as the kitchen is open. read more

We tried this restaurant for breakfast while passing through Waco and were disappointed. We both ordered an omlet one with fruit as a side and one with hash browns. The hash browns were soggy and tastless and the fruit far past its prime. Cute little place food is pretty good depending on what you get. We got a salad and a sandwich with sweet potato fries. The salad and fries were great the sandwich however had some burnt bread and all the cream cheese was in one spot. Also not a great if you have allergies. I told them of my VERY common allergies and I got "well you shoulda eaten at home" followed by a shrug and "we can't make promises there's a lot in the back." I also overheard them complaining about a customer amongst themselves at the front counter when no one was there. They probably didn't think people could hear them. I go to The Mix at least once a week. I always have great service and great food. I love the grilled chicken avocado sandwich with pesto. Everything is so fresh and delicious. The restaurant is clean and you can see the kitchen is as well. They also offer to go options which is great to get between classes. Sweet potato fries are great, but I'm still confused why they try to give me ranch with them every time. I've never had a bad meal here and would recommend it to anyone in Waco. read more

I'm a Baylor alum frequently in town a few times a year for appointments or events, and I finally made it around to Mix Cafe for the first time last week! I was impressed with the menu, and the meal I had was excellent for the price (and I had enough for leftovers for dinner, always a plus for a broke grad student sitting on Baylor loans and more haha).
