It was an interesting spot. There isnt much of a parking lot and from the outside of the slightly older building I didn't know what to expect. Walking in through a small lobby I was greeted by a lady who said I could sit either in the dining room or in the bar. I elected to make my way into the bar... There a woman handed me a menu and I had a seat on a stool. The prices were reasonable but I did feel the ribeye steak for 25 bucks was a bit of a gamble. Instead I went with a bacon burger and a beverage. As I waited the bartender and I proceeded to commence in some small talk... I explained it was my first time at the establishment and in exchange she suggested I walk around the dining room to check out the unique decor. Unique it was! Old liquor bottles line the walls from top to bottom and what space is not occupied by old liquor bottles you will find taxidermied animals... "All are real except for the jackalope and the deer with ram horns" she explained. Now, Im no vegetarian or vegan hippie but some of these animals were too young to be on display in my opinion. There was baby deer of all sizes lined up from smallest to largest. There are bear cubs that didnt live long... And maybe Im weird but I didnt appreciate seeing juvenile animals stuffed. There were a couple odd balls like a two headed calf... But overall I found the young animals that were stuffed to be depressing. The burger I ordered was another mild disappointment. The meat was gamey or old... Didnt taste proper at all... I ate the bacon and cheese off the burger while leaving the patty there. For up in the woods its a decent spot... The bartender was friendly and welcoming... The slot machines paid for my meal. However the place is a bit of an oddball with the decor. If you are in the area check out Manleys about 15 to 20 miles away. If the food was better Id give 4 stats but its a solid 3 from me after my experience. Stuffed little animals don't do it for me. Scratch-made food at reasonable prices. My husband and I like to visit this restaurant each time we pass through on Hwy 97 on our way to Kennewick WA. The service is friendly and fast. What we love most are the beautiful wildlife tastefully displayed throughout the dining area. Worth a visit for sure. read more

I admit, we were drawn in by the eclectic feel of this place as described by fellow yelpers and were not disappointed! This is a family owned business which is currently up for sale, by the way. Having two children, it was pleasant to have the kids distracted by looking at all the taxidermied (is that a word?) animals in the dining room until we got our food. We were informed that two of the animals were not real. We managed to figure out one of them, but were stumped by the other. But it sure kept the kids busy! They serve some local beers, although not fully educated on the beers-our waitress thought 10 barrel was a type of beer, not a brewery. The food was pretty standard. My husband enjoyed his French dip. My deep-fried shrimp were as expected. You might consider staying away from the pizza sticks. Overall, this is a great place to stop on by, especially if you're in the middle of a long road trip as we were. We will definitely return. read more

This place is definitely worth the stop! As stated in most of the reviews, the decor is interesting and eclectic, but the food is also really good. We had the homemade fried chicken. It's made to order so it takes a little while (which they warn you about) but is well worth the wait. Basic diner food, well executed. What you see is what you get. The inside is incredibly unique with the taxidermy decorations. Some displayed are so rare they are illegal to hunt now. Food was way overpriced. We got the special and didn't realize it was going to be $16 each. It was supposed to be meatloaf on an open faced sandwich but it was a thin piece of meat that looked more like a hamburger than meat loaf on top of some white bread. A quarter of the meatloaf was cold. Gravy was not that good. Mashed potatoes weren't very good. The best thing about the meal was the soup. I liked the decorations in the place. Would not come back and its kind of upsetting spending so much on food that wasn't good. I saw this place had 4 stars so we expected it was going to be pretty good. read more

Mohawk Restaurant - American Kitsch Diner This is a biscuits and gravy / meatloaf roadside diner. The food is stock and remarkable in the same way a white line tracks straight down the middle of a road for miles without wavering. If you are a picky eater and want basic food, this place has your ticket. At the same time if you want to enjoy hardcore Americana and true rural diner food, then this is also your place. For all the people from Asia that tour through Crater Lake, they would probably happily take the extra time to eat here if they knew about it as if you are looking for an American experience, this is it. Though food is only a small part of what is going on. The REAL claim to fame and treat (or horror for some people...) of this place is the micro-zoo of taxidermy that populates the dining room. Bears, lots and lots of deer, a timber wolf pelt, badger, and just about anything that can be hunted and killed within 100 miles has been mounted for your dining entertainment. And among all the animals is also a kitschy bottle collection of commemorative ceramic and glass bottles. If you ever wanted to have pancakes in the shadow of a pair of mounted bear cubs, then this is your place. read more

Insanely tasty. A god send for the hungry traveler. The staff is sweet as pie and they actually have fresh baked pie. They have an extensive collection of vintage bottles and taxidermy. Their beer selection is awesome and their food is just plain drool worthy. Double yu-um!!! read more

This place is not only a great restaurant with fabulous food, but it is also a museum! Some of the knick knacks are from the 40s and for us seniors, brings back a lot memories. We could spend an hour just looking at the things on the shelves! The service is fast. If you're traveling through, you have to stop at The Mohawk. Our last visit was just before Thanksgiving 2016 and The Mohawk was for sale with a list price of only $150,000. The knick knacks alone must be worth twice that. If I were younger, I would seriously consider buying it! read more

A unique and cozy restaurant and pub in the mountains. The food was decent. I had the BLT and salad, while my husband had a burger. The dining room is filled with memorabilia collection from all over the states, along with taxidermied animals of all kinds. Very interesting to say the least. On the table is a page about its history. We would definitely stop in again. read more

I've been coming to this restaurant since I was a small child while passing through the area. I will go out of my way to stop in and eat the wonderful food. Happy to find this gem restaurant on our way from Crater Lake. The club was delicious and huge. Perfectly toasted bread and crisp bacon then stacked high. We got a slice of amazing homemade peanut butter pie to go. The service was very friendly and quick. I would be a regular if I lived closer to Mohawks. This is a great reason to stop in Gilchrist. I have driven through many times but never stopped. There is so much history in that building. Make sure you read the story on the back of the menu, it tells you all about the bottle collection, the taxidermy and the building itself. We had lunch there and the food was really good diner style food. Good portions, good prices. Didn't try the pie but I've heard it is worth it. Will stop in again on my next trip through Gilchrist. read more

This place is for sure different than what I'm used to. The little town it is in is hardly even a speck on the map- mostly a place for people to stay while they go hunting or enjoying the outdoor activities such as hiking or in winter snow activities. I got stuck here snowed in and decided to eat at Mohawk, since it is one of two restaurants in the entire town of crescent that were close enough to walk to from the motel. The decor is ...welll... you could say quirky. I really didn't enjoy looking at baby deer (21 of them) some of which were not even born. It isn't a museum, this is a place people try and eat at and that just didn't please my stomach. All the other stuffed (taxidermed) animals were pretty cool to see except maybe the bear cubs , again just isn't cool to kill animals that are not adults. That's not really hunting - it's not even legal to do that anymore it would be considered poaching. The food was good but expensive for what you get and considering the location and overhead of the place just doesn't justify the price. It's basically expensive because they can charge that because unless you want to drive 25 miles there isn't anything else to eat. Same thing with the motel (90 per night)... I pay that in major cities . Basically the entire town is a rip-off and they know it- lets be honest it isn't like I would be in crescent Oregon If I hadn't got stuck in a snow storm and there isn't any other option but to pay what they ask. Could have charged me 40 bucks for a burger and I would have had to pay it because the only other option is to starve. However the food was good, service decent, and besides the baby animals the decor is pretty cool. Would I go back? Very friendly staff. Good food. Had a bowl of homemade vegetable soup which was quite tasty and a BLT on sourdough toast which was pretty good. Would have been even better if the tomato on it hadn't been a hothouse tomato. The decanter collection and lots of taxidermy decor are kinda strange but it's a good vibe in the restaurant and the restrooms were very clean. Great hot food served til 9pm. Staff are local and honest. Main resturant has Museum like setting which is great for children. Bar is open and sports are always on. I enjoy the daily specials but you can never go wrong with a mohawk burger and rings read more

The waitress with tattoos all over her chest should have been my first clue that this place is a dive. It took her 20 minutes to bring us a beer. When I complained she was a total B. I left. The family came here after a day out on Crater Lake. The atmosphere was different for us, but it's a good conversation starter. I got the bowl of chill, though to me it tasted more like refried beans. I got garlic toast on the side though it wasn't very garlicky. I also got a small garden salad with honey mustard which was my favorite part of the meal, very fresh. The rest of the family was happy with their meals. My sister got the taco salad, my mom got the bacon mushroom burger ( though she was a little disappointed that the mushrooms seemed canned), she got a side salad with the house made balsamic which she really enjoyed, my dad got Ortega burger with fries.
