This is a cute little market that has cold sandwich options for gluten-free and regular. We got a gluten-free their house made honey oat bread with turkey, lettuce, and goat cheese. They do toast the bread, but the meat was cold. It was very good even my hubby liked it, who is not GF. The bread was VERY good. Wish we lived in the area as I could see buying a loaf of it weekly. And the sandwich even came with the perfect size baby chocolate chip gluten-free cookie as a dessert. I cannot wait to come back to the area to go here again. The only downside is it isn't fast, the kids behind the counter were busier talking then helping people but as long as you are patient it is worth it. read more

Stopped here for a break from cycling and it seemed like a popular spot for that! There were bike racks, picnic tables, and porter potties. There were a lot of different packaged snacks and baked goods inside. At the counter, there was an ice cream bar, sandwich bar, and coffee bar. I waited 20 minutes for my order and saw people who ordered after me get their sandwiches. I finally asked when it would be ready and worker told me the order was lost. My sandwich came out shortly after but it was still a long wait as I saw at least 8 people who ordered after get their orders. Roast beef sandwich - the roast beef sandwich was decent. What a cute and tasty spot. It was very popular on a Thursday morning with coffee drinkers (we were 2 of those), chatting over a warm drink inside on a cold day. Seating is limited to a few smaller tables and a big table to share inside, but on more temperate days, they offer tables outside and a nice grass area for picnicking with one of their delicious sandwiches and even a beer from the coolers inside. A selection of unusual (not found in most stores) gifts, local food stuffs, and food items are sold. They also have meat (beef mostly, I think) is displayed for sale. And don't forget their yummy pies! All in all it puts Hygiene back on the map for me. read more

The customer service is terrible. Do teens today just not know how to interact with people? As soon as I paid, the girl behind the counter just turned the computer around, and without saying anything or offering my receipt she just slowly walked away. I stood there for a moment like "...?" And finally said "Ok, thanks, have a nice day" to her back as she was already in the other side of the kitchen, and all the girls working there just stared and snickered. These kids are so rude! But even without considering that their pies are gluten free, they are at the top tier of the best pies I've ever had, period! Fully give my grandma Martha's legendary pies a worthy peer. After we were finishing off the apple-mixed berry pie we had for Thanksgiving, my gal and I talked about the virtue of making a drive from Fort Collins to Hygiene just to get another! We didn't that day, but hallelujah, business had me in Boulder today and I drove home via Hygiene. Clearly there were a lot of patrons enjoying soaking up the rustic atmosphere; it definitely speaks of small town, unhurried pace America, and it's a spirit lifting change of pace from sterile, cookie cutter businesses. Homey. I made a study of the Mountain Fountain on their social media accounts after our Thanksgiving pie, and see nothing but positive things going on there. They value and cherish their employees. They source their meats from within a mile or two of the shop. And the two employees I interacted with today were terrific--engaging, knowledgeable, great attitudes and kind. Thank you! And thanks a bunch for all of your gluten free offerings. I see that other Yelp reviewers tout the homemade bread as delicious. I'll pick that up next time. I used to drive through Hygiene for a more scenic route between Fort Collins and Boulder, but had gotten away from that in recent years. I stopped here after a morning spent on Lake McIntyre. This is a very quaint but busy stop to get a cold drink and lunch. I ordered the club sandwich on wheat with the free cookie and a black cherry fountain drink. The sandwich was huge, stacked with generous portions of turkey, ham and bacon. The sandwich was great as was the free chocolate chip cookie. I love when I find a place with fountain served black cherry soda. The prices were ok and the people working there were very pleasant. This is a cute little establishment, and the pies are heavenly!! I like all the local options in the store, and they have done a great job at making the place feel homey and timeless. Staff and friendly and helpfull. My only complaint is the soda fountain was down when I was there which was a little disappointing, but I just chose one of the local bottle sodas they offered and felt like a kid again drinking out of a glass bottle. When you're the only game in town, it would be pretty easy to keep things small and simple. I was pretty surprised by what I found at the Mountain Fountain. Dry goods, baked goods, a big fridge section, coffee, ice creams, and a deli counter, among other things. They know at least a part of their target crowd and have set up a large number of bike racks out front. There were a decent number of people there around lunchtime but I wouldn't say it was at all crowded. It sounds like they do a pretty good business because the people at the counter said it was a slower Saturday. Just finishing up a long bike ride, I went with a roast beef sandwich on wheat with all the usual fixin's. They throw in an optional chocolate chip cookie for good measure. I gladly accepted. Pretty standard cookie but it's still a chocolate chip cookie. The sandwich was good too. Somewhat similar to what you might make for yourself at home and that's because you can select whatever you want to be on the sandwiches. Pick your cheese, bread, meat, etc. and they'll get to work. All in all, three stars for the food and another for the atmosphere and selection. There isn't a lot in the immediate vicinity so you could certainly do a lot worse. read more

Currently under new ownership this used to be called the purple door market but now has a name change & no more purple door. Inside & the menu is the same though. This local country stop at 75th & Hygiene Rd is a combo deli & small goods grocery. Very limited produce but they do sell a large variety of cold/hot drinks & dairy products. For deli sandwiches they offer vegetarian and meat options with breads both GF & regular. They also have half and full sizes. Fresh soups in 3 sizes are also offered, typically 3 meat options and 1 vegetarian. In their cold case they have assembled burritos & they offer premade quiche then microwave heat up for you. The time of the day really impacts the availability of their offerings. Its a limited supply impacted by the busyness of the bikers and tourists passing thru. I wish they had stronger bakery items and fresh bread (a partnership with Button Rock would be amazing) but its ok for basic sandwiches. read more

I had low expectations given some of the prior reviews, but I love this place! The staff was very friendly to me, even when I asked lots of questions about their sandwich/deli offerings before deciding what to buy. I'm not sure why my experience was so different from the prior reviewer's, but I felt very welcomed here. If you're gluten free, this is a hidden gem. They have tons of gluten free options, most of them look like they're made in house (including yummy looking pies and pie crusts). If you need a last minute birthday card or a gift, they have some cute, local made products. Yes, it's small, so don't go in expecting a regular grocery store with tons of stocked items. I think they get a lot of business from cyclists, because they have a big variety of cold drinks - everything from flavored waters to kombucha to soft drinks - but they also have solid lunch options, like burritos, soups, and made to order deli sandwiches. I like that they sell meat from local farms. They even have a hay truck outside where you can buy hay from a local farm. Quintessential "shop local" stuff. The low points: the baked goods were different each time I've been in (so I couldn't get the muffin I'd seen but not tried on my first visit), and they don't brew decaf coffee (I'm sure the demand for it is low, but just an FYI). TLDR: It's a charming, small, neighborhood store. Definitely worth a stop if you're near Hygiene. read more

As a (mostly) vegetarian, really appreciate that they have lots of salad/veggie alternatives in addition to the local meats on offer. If you've got any kinds of allergies or food issues you should definitely check it out, as they have a big gluten free range of products. OMG, WTF? $7.00 for a Gallon of Milk? $17.00 for 1.5lbs of FROZEN Bacon? Where do you get these prices from? Ya ya ya the Bacon comes from local pigs..whatever. You get your Farmers Brand Milk (that's not Organic) from Longmont -5 miles away from your store. I happen to know you buy those Gallons for about $2.80 each, so what's with the 80% mark-up? I will make a conscious decision never to shop at this over-priced store again! Oh, and don't try to blame the minimum wage hike -you're not paying your employees $15/hr...yet.
