Stopped here for a break from cycling and it seemed like a popular spot for that! There were bike racks, picnic tables, and porter potties. There were a lot of different packaged snacks and baked goods inside. At the counter, there was an ice cream bar, sandwich bar, and coffee bar. I waited 20 minutes for my order and saw people who ordered after me get their sandwiches. I finally asked when it would be ready and worker told me the order was lost. My sandwich came out shortly after but it was still a long wait as I saw at least 8 people who ordered after get their orders. Roast beef sandwich - the roast beef sandwich was decent. The house made cookie was pretty good!

Amazing Blueberry Pie from The Mountain Fountain!

The pies...The Pies...THE PIES!!! Wow wow wow! Disclosure: I follow a gluten free diet. But even without considering that their pies are gluten free, they are at the top tier of the best pies I've ever had, period! Fully give my grandma Martha's legendary pies a worthy peer. After we were finishing off the apple-mixed berry pie we had for Thanksgiving, my gal and I talked about the virtue of making a drive from Fort Collins to Hygiene just to get another! We didn't that day, but hallelujah, business had me in Boulder today and I drove home via Hygiene. Clearly there were a lot of patrons enjoying soaking up the rustic atmosphere; it definitely speaks of small town, unhurried pace America, and it's a spirit lifting change of pace from sterile, cookie cutter businesses. Homey. I made a study of the Mountain Fountain on their social media accounts after our Thanksgiving pie, and see nothing but positive things going on there. They value and cherish their employees. They source their meats from within a mile or two of the shop. And the two employees I interacted with today were terrific--engaging, knowledgeable, great attitudes and kind. Thank you! And thanks a bunch for all of your gluten free offerings. I see that other Yelp reviewers tout the homemade bread as delicious. I'll pick that up next time. I used to drive through Hygiene for a more scenic route between Fort Collins and Boulder, but had gotten away from that in recent years. Well, it's going to be my standard route again, just to stop in at the outstanding Mountain Fountain. Thanks for bringing it!

What a wonderful cafe /country store /market. Scrumptious pies, including savory ones. Very tasty sandwiches - you can choose your own bread and toppings!. The tomato Pie and quiche were both delicious. Will become a regular lunch spot for me.

Just some of the pretty wide selection of things

When you're the only game in town, it would be pretty easy to keep things small and simple. I was pretty surprised by what I found at the Mountain Fountain. Dry goods, baked goods, a big fridge section, coffee, ice creams, and a deli counter, among other things. They know at least a part of their target crowd and have set up a large number of bike racks out front. There were a decent number of people there around lunchtime but I wouldn't say it was at all crowded. It sounds like they do a pretty good business because the people at the counter said it was a slower Saturday. Just finishing up a long bike ride, I went with a roast beef sandwich on wheat with all the usual fixin's. They throw in an optional chocolate chip cookie for good measure. I gladly accepted. Pretty standard cookie but it's still a chocolate chip cookie. The sandwich was good too. Somewhat similar to what you might make for yourself at home and that's because you can select whatever you want to be on the sandwiches. Pick your cheese, bread, meat, etc. and they'll get to work. All in all, three stars for the food and another for the atmosphere and selection. There isn't a lot in the immediate vicinity so you could certainly do a lot worse.

in house made egg salad. Woah.

Great place for finding some oddball snacks plus they make a good sandwich. They have a card to get what you want and are always consistent.

Better bread, better cold cuts, even the pickle on the side is better, Fuhgeddaboudit! Yo Vinny, let's you and me head over to Snarf's and try the "Italian". "Yeah, right... I bet the standard toppings come with mustard, geeze! Fuhgeddaboudit! Yeah, Fuhgeddaboudit!".... And SCENE!!! Not sure what that all means, but I actually am from New York, am a legitimate sammie snob, spent time in Sandwich, MA, and LOVE Snarf's Italian Sub. And while I may be judging it on the handicapped Colorado sandwich rating scale which gives it an additional half star per side, it's still a damn good sandwich! I always go with the "Novice", it's perfectly short, and densely packed with lots of thinly sliced Italian meats, provolone, lettuce, tomato & onion. Their grinder-style oven ALWAYS gets the sandwich nice & hot. Yes, the bread can sometimes get a bit dry & crispy, but it often is a nice textural contrast to the juicy sandwich filling. Finally, two things that put it over the top: #1. a perfect mélange of oil & vinegar AND mayo. Yep, gotta have 'em all to make the magic just right! And #2. Their amazing proprietary blend of Hot giardiniera peppers. The best mix I've possibly ever had-- including NYC! One SIDE NOTE (and I'm being totally serious): Yes, if you order ALL THE TOPPINGS, you'll get mustard. So please, do me a favor, and DON'T get mustard on your Italian hero, Fuhgeddaboudit! Other favorite sandwiches that I have enjoyed at Snarfs locations in Boulder over the last 25+ years: the Meatball (extra parmesan), the Prime Rib & Provolone (mayo only), and the Turkey & Swiss (extra Swiss, of course). Are these fancy frou-frou sandwiches? Definitely not... but they're my favorite old school subs in Colorado, and I'll keep coming back again & again!

Being a 6 week resident of Longmont, I'm so glad I found this deli yesterday! It sure beats driving down to Denver. All the bagels and bialys are from H & H in New York. All the smoked fish is from Acme Smokehouse in Brooklyn. The knishes and pickles, also from NY. Considering all this is shipped from NY, the prices are very reasonable! Besides all the NY deli items are regular sandwiches, wraps, soups, etc. for other folks. The inside is small; maybe 4 tables and a couple outside. The one girl working behind the counter was a doll. You really feel like you're in a NY deli when you walk in. The refrigerated case is filled with all my favorites...veal parm, knishes, smoked salmon, whitefish, potato salad, etc. They even had the black and white giant cookies, big chewy brownies, and chocolate eclairs. Eggcreams and halavah are also on the menu. A big jar of duck sauce and kosher dills also for sale in the store! I had an onion bagel with whitefish and it was out of this world. My husband had bagels and lox and it was also wonderful. Right now the store is located at 9th and Coffman right next to Your Butcher Frank, but the girl said they will be moving to 15th and Main by Sept 1st as their lease is up. Oh boy, that's even closer to our house!!! I'll be hanging out here every Sunday morning for sure. And maybe afternoons too! http://www.bleusun.com/index.html
