Movers were 45 minutes late to our loading dock time. The movers were on their phones calling and texting throughout the move, taking breaks to sit on the floor, and complain about each other in front of us during our 2 hour move. They were unable to finish the job in the quoted time and then charged us for the difference. Once we arrived at our final destination we discovered that one of our TVs was cracked and several of our $1700 chairs were packed without the provided moved blankets and were scratched. So I rarely do this, but it cost me $150 out of my security deposit and it was handled very poorly. Something so simple to fix is now turned to a bad review. I hired this company through U-haul and was hopeful because they had good reviews. I was on vacation in Hawaii when the move was completed and my cousin sent me this (see picture). WTF. A huge hole in the living room wall with scratches. "Professional movers" that couldn't move a couch down a stairwell. That me and my "unprofessional" friend did ourselves when we first moved in. I didn't lose my cool, because what good is that? I spoke to Antonio, and he made it seem like the situation would be resolved and that the company would "reimburse" me for the damages. He told me the owner would contact me, but he never did. He also said the owner needed my new address so he could send me a check. Two months later not a check in site. It's been a year and I still haven't heard anything. So instead of taking a small loss to amend the situation you will now take a bigger loss when people see this review and not hire your company. We couldn't be more impressed or happy with the Moving Guides. We had a very stressful military move and needed some major help unloading our two trucks. The three young men did a very nice job and I would hire them again in a heart beat. The company itself seems very professional. Awesome and affordable price.... Other companies tried to quote me about $500 higher for "transportation fees". This company was Very customer friendly. We had a snafu with our move and called the day of (!!!!) to see if they could come a little later that day and it was no issue at all. Thank goodness. They were a bright light at the end of a very stressful move. These guys were entirely professional and courteous. We had a big rainstorm and they didn't utter one complaint or one indication of annoyance! They were soaked to the bone and still had no problem moving our stuff. We were sooo grateful. They even were concerned about our carpet getting muddy from their shoes. They were grateful even for the Gatorade I provided. Very humble and gracious. 100% A+ job. I hired moving guides recently to help me move from my condo in Vienna. Every time I called, tony was quick to answer the phone. I quickly asked for 3 guys to help me with my move given their availability and price quote. On the day of the move, tony let me know they were running 10 mins late. They showed up and helped me move with no further issues. They were professional and pack all my belongings into the truck as efficiently as possible. I haven't finished unpacking yet, however I did not find that anything broke in transit. I would definitely hire the moving guides again. read more

We hired the Moving Guides to move two large couches for us up and over our second floor balcony. The two guys called to confirm, arrived on time, were very friendly and helpful, and did an excellent job -- in the RAIN. I'd definitely hire these guys again. The only thing I'd suggest to improve would be the communication between the booking agent and Moving Guides. We gave detailed instructions to the booking agent and then when Moving Guides called us to confirm the job, they asked to confirm what it was we needed, and then said "Oh, I don't know if we can do that." I appreciate the honesty (and it turned out they could do it and did do it and did a great job, and all is well), but if they really hadn't been able to do it, they shouldn't have accepted the job from the booking agent. I highly recommend this service. Moving is god awful and stressful. Everyone is nervous before it happens. The two gentlemen from the Moving Guides, Tim and Vaughn, immediately put those anxieties to rest. We moved three bed rooms in four hours with no hiccups. Due to life circumstances, I unexpectedly needed to move, fast. I hired The Moving Guides, whom I found via hireahelper.com. We worked out all the plans on the phone in advance, right down to reserving the freight elevator in my apartment, and the person I spoke to was very helpful and knowledgeable. Except...the morning I was scheduled to move, The Moving Guides did not show up. I waited for half an hour or so, and then called the proprietor, "Tony." He was still asleep when I called, and he had no idea that his movers were even working that day. He said he would call them and get back to me. He didn't get back to me. Half an hour later I called him again. He said the movers were having "car trouble" and would call me. I asked if I could have their number instead so I could call them. He declined to provide it. An hour later, nobody had called. I tried calling Tony a third time, but he just quit taking my calls. It's bad enough that the Moving Guides didn't show. But let's suppose the movers actually had some emergency, or their car really broke down. Even worse is that they did not bother calling to let me know they weren't planning on showing up, so that I could hire someone else. There was no communication at all between the movers and their supervisor. Nobody from the company ever contacted me afterward to apologize or explain. This company was cheap--and my experience with them reflected that. Instead of making moving smooth, the Moving Guides made what was already a difficult and stressful time in my life that much more difficult. I spent a whole day sitting in my packed apartment, ready to go, wondering when they'd show up and trying to call them. In the end I had to hire somebody else and reschedule. I'm just glad I left a few days between my move and the end of my lease. These guys were AMAZING! The man I talked to to set up the move, Carter, was really friendly and professional. The price was great, especially considering how expensive a lot of other companies were. My husband and I were moving from our townhouse in Fairfax to another townhouse in Springfield, and we rented the moving van ourselves with some moving blankets. We originally hired the two-man crew for two hours, and were told upon hiring them that if we went over that two hour contract time, we would just need to pay them the same hourly rate for the additional time- no extra charges or penalties or anything, which is a darn good thing because we went an extra two hours over. I was never so happy in my life to pay that extra hundred bucks for their time and effort. The crew was scheduled to show up at 10:00 a.m., and at EXACTLY 10:00, my phone rang and the man on the other end said "we're the moving crew, and we're outside your house." And there they were- two of the fastest, most efficient, and most courteous gentlemen I have ever had the pleasure of working with. One of them even knew what kind of dogs we had! (I don't trust people who don't like dogs.) They were completely no-nonsense, and packed everything very effectively into the moving van. Nothing came out broken, nothing was damaged, and they were really nice about communicating what they needed to pack first, last, and how they were planning to go about loading everything. The guys followed us to the new house and unloaded everything really fast, and again, were very receptive to our instructions on where everything needed to go. At the end of the move, I spoke to Carter one more time to finalize the charges. He knew we had gone two hours past the original contract time, and his first question was to make sure that it wasn't because the crew had been delaying us or anything. I told him absolutely not- it was my husband and me who had miscalculated, but it was really nice that he was cognizant of the value of our time. Full disclaimer: ended up going with another company which provided the moving truck. Uber procrastinator here trying to schedule a last minute move (only two days notice). Moving from studio to studio only a couple blocks away, and every mover I called started with a flat rate of $200-$300 and then there were "packaging" "labour" etc random fees--even though the move itself is capable of being done in under an hour. The Moving Guides quoted me 65/hr with a 2 hour minimum. They were courteous and didn't give me a hard time when I asked them if I could price shop (they don't have a moving truck and I had to call U-haul to see what the price and hassle would be compared to using a mover with a truck). When I called back to let them know I went with another mover, they again were incredibly courteous. Good price and great phone manners. read more

I recently moved out of Northern Virginia and needed some muscle to get the big objects out of my apartment into a Relocube. An acquaintance of mine gave me the contact info for The Moving Guides because he was very please with the service, but didn't go into much detail about them. I did not have a lot of money in my moving budget for movers and at the rate they charge I assumed all I was getting was muscle. I was happy to find out that the Moving Guides are so much more than muscle. First of all, setting up the date and time for my move was very easy. Second, a day before my move one of the guys (I forgot his name) called to confirm the appointment. It was on my list of things to do, but moving can be hectic, and I forgot to call to confirm. I was pleased to get the call from them to confirm. They are very professional! Then, on the day of the move they called about 15 minutes before our agreed upon start time to say they were about 15 minutes away. Again, another professional courtesy. Sure enough, they arrived on time and began work immediately. I was expecting to have to give lots of direction and maybe even move some of the boxes myself in order to get it done in the two hours scheduled. The guys assured me that I would not have to lift a finger while they were there and I happily didn't. Those were the two least stressful hours of moving week! I would also like to add that I was concerned that all of my belongings may not fit in the one Relocube I ordered, but these guys were Tetris Wizards and got everything securely packed in under 2 hours. It was amazing to watch them work through the window. They really took care of my belongings as they were moving them. And they were FAST! But don't confuse fast with sloppy. They handled everything with care. I guess the real test will be to see if anything got damaged during transit. If I don't add a follow up review, everything arrived safe and sound on the other side of the country. If there were any issues, I will add to this review. In conclusion, the Moving Guides are true moving professionals. Not just muscle! Worth every penny! read more

I could not regret more our decision to use the Moving Guides when we needed help loading our moving truck. They displayed complete disrespect for our possessions by, among other things, stacking boxes labeled breakable/china UNDER boxes labeled text books; not using the provided furniture wrapping material; and using wardrobe boxes at the bottom of the load (needless to say, these boxes collapsed underneath the weight placed on top of them)! Even the movers we hired to help unload our truck in California commented on how poorly the truck was packed :-( As soon as I figure out how to post pictures, I through a few up here to illustrate the thousands of dollars the Moving Guides cost us. We are in the process of trying to resolve this situation with the company; however, the owner will not call back and the manager is acting as a go between. If you're aim is to trash all of our furniture and other worldly possessions, it would be cheaper to take a sledge hammer to them. read more

I booked with The Moving Guides through UHaul's internal mover reservation site, MovingHelp.com. Tony and Tim helped me load my truck both at my storage unit and then followed me to my apartment to load up even more. They worked efficiently and carefully and were able to load up the 15 foot truck with a bunch of furniture and boxes of different sizes. The truck was packed full, and everything was safely secured. It all arrived to my new place intact. I would highly recommend them, and will contact them to help with my moves in the future. As I write this Dorian the owner has hung up the phone on me after trying to discuss damage to a $4k mattress. He refuses to speak back and texts back and forth avoiding any answers. Unfortunately I'm in a position I have to file a police report. Business such as this will now have to deal with me going to their local city to file a complaint, local police for damage property and potentially have to add my time effort and wages lost instead of just having a phone conversation. I hired The Moving Guides way in advance of my move, because I knew I would need all the help I could get. After I've made my reservation, I even called to confirm that the movers have all the necessary information, such as date, time and my address. The person on the phone assured me that everything is in order and that the movers will meet me at X date at Y time. On the day of my move, nobody showed up. I called The Moving Guides several times, but no one ever picked up. After leaving several voicemails, a supervisor (Carter) finally called me back, and said that their movers were having communication troubles (you can say that again!) and that he would get in touch with me as soon as possible. An hour later, still no movers and by then, I was fuming and demanding a refund. Thankfully, my friends were able to pitch in at the last minute to help me move. The two movers I hired showed up at my new apartment TEN MINUTES before their hired shift was up. They even had the audacity to rudely ask me whether I still need them. Of course, I sent them packing and said I'm expecting a full refund. Fast forward two months, and I still have not yet received the refund they promised to send. Despite many phone calls, emails, and reassurances from the company, no check ever came in the mail. Not only are they unreliable and have terrible customer service, some of their comments make me wonder if they're even a legitimate company at all. When I first got in touch with the supervisor, Antonio, regarding the refund, he asked if I was free to meet up with him later in the day so he could pay me back the total amount in cash. As a paying customer who did not receive ANY part of the service I requested, I thought it was very rude of him to ask me to leave work just to meet him for my refund (and to pay me in cash?!). A week later, I called Carter to ask about the status of my refund, and he mentioned that he sent me a check and that if the amount is still no removed out of his bank account by the end of the week, he will send a new check. From this conversation, I gathered the sense that the finances were coming out of his personal bank account, as opposed to a company account. At this point, I'm so frustrated with The Moving Guides that I'd rather forget about this whole experience. This is the worst service company I've ever had to work with and I strongly discourage people from using these movers. read more

I'm very sad that my followup post cancels out my first post. I called on these guys for my second move and was horribly disappointed. . . My moving day was a complete DISASTER! Two movers were supposed to show up first thing in the morning . . . only ONE did- and he was great and moved as much as he could for being just ONE guy. The second guy who was having "car trouble" never showed up. After hours of waiting and trying to reach the owner I finally gave up and had to handle my move by myself. This is after I rented a uhaul and was hours and hours behind schedule. I ended up having to get some last minute movers to help me finish which ended up costing twice as much and a bunch of my things ended up broken. I'm very sad my second moving experience with these guys was so awful compared to my first experience . .. I just don't know what happened they are clearly not reliable as their customer service is not consistent. The owner eventually called and apologized hours later, I think he was trying to find someone to step in but it was hours too late. Such a disappointment :/ read more

We needed some movers to help with loading the the u-haul. This company has 2 locations on Yelp, and unfortunately, I thought I was dealing with the other location. Communication was a key (problematic) issue. When verifying via email, the company lacked clarity and details to give us confidence that they would be there. By this time, it was too late for us to hire another company (all were booked). I called the night before, and spoke with Marcus, because U-haul delayed the time for us to pick up our truck. Marcus ensured me they would be there and would call 30 min prior to arrival. They did call at 10 am, to ask how close the metro station was to us, and said they had car trouble. One of our friends said to have them call when they arrived, and he would pick them up. An hour later, still no call, I tried to call them back and received the man's daughter-in-law. No one answered the company phone. 30 min after that, the movers finally called and we were pretty much done, so I told them not to come. They were more than an hour late and didn't have the furniture dolly that was part of our reservation. Our move was performed by friends and family. After reading a previous review, I see the "car trouble" excuse is a recurring theme. The loading took significantly longer because of this.
