The Mucky Duck has hosted my birthday nearly every single year of my 31 years on earth and I wouldn't have it any other way. Though ownership changes brought some slight variations to the menu and the way my birthday has been celebrated, the vibe hasn't changed a bit. There is a very relaxed and whimsical atmosphere despite the thick crowds that start to develop around 4pm. The outdoor patio has a bar, a musician, family-style picnic tables, and some lawn games to keep you occupied. Of course, there's the sunset to keep your eye on. Keep your ears open to hear your name called for seating as they will quickly move on to the next group. Be sure to stop inside to purchase some of their many SWAG items from shirts and sweatshirts to koozies and glassware; stuffed ducks and puzzles to magnets and stickers. At the holidays they also have ornaments. Once seated in this dark but cozy pub, you'll enjoy reading all of the buttons from their vast collection, vintage signs advertising old adages or bad service for rude people. The servers have things down to a science as there are two seatings and they need to keep things moving. You'll receive prompt service, prompt delivery of food all with a smile. I love to order the lobster tail, though the market price is near $50 now and I couldn't justify the price of one Florida rock lobster tail when one can receive a full lobster dinner for less nearly anywhere else in the world. So for the first time in years, I ordered the Surf & Turf. The filet was cooked perfectly to my liking and the barbecue shrimp were delicious. Highly recommend. My husband and I love to start with oysters Rockafellar which they make expertly. It is just the right amount of cheese to spinach. The Mucky Duck Surprise is a dessert option that changes daily, but I recommend the brownie sundae (with a side order of Happy Birthday sung by the entire restaurant). The brownie sundae does have walnuts cooked into the brownie. This massive brownie smothered in ice cream and whipped cream is definitely big enough to share with your entire table. I do miss the old ownership as the servers were a little more playful bringing around ketchup bottles with red string and glasses of coffee attached to a spoon where they would pretend to spill on you. The restaurant had a playful vibe that always made you leave in good spirits. I wish they'd bring some more of that back, rather than trying to get tables turned over. This is a must visit when on Captiva and while they do have parking, don't expect to find a spot after 4:30pm. Insider's Tip: They start taking names for seating at 4:30pm. I liked the separate bar service outside with a good selection of spirits and beers. Had the BBQ Bacon-wrapped shrimp-it was a good dish, but it was so hot it melted the Styrofoam plate it came on. So, serving on a different dish would help with the presentation value a bit. Main dishes we had were the Grilled Pastrami & Pesto, which was served Panini-style and was very tasty. I saw mixed reviews about this place but in general everyone had good things to say about the food. Totally agree. In fact for a place right on the beach I was kind of impressed at the quality and taste. Past experience with places like this has just been standard fair like sandwiches and lots of fried stuff but here they had pastas and steaks. We started with clam chowder which was really good. It had everything cut up small which I like. The clams were a bit chewy but there were lots of them ! We followed this with duck duck shrimp. Very tasty! Great app. For our main we share their pasta special of the day; seafood fettuccine with tomatoes in a butter sauce. Very good and a large portion. Easily shareable and we even had some leftover. We ended with their mucky duck surprise dessert; a limoncello cake that was so good! It was light and practically evaporated when you ate it. Service was awesome and Phyllis made our night enjoyable and took great care of us. We were here on a light night due to everyone being scared away by the hurricane Dorian so will have to update this for a busy trip but this night was really nice. read more

Awesome little spot just off the beach in Captiva. It's a bit of a drive if you're coming from Sanibel, but you definitely won't regret it. The staff is very welcoming, the establishment has a cool vibe (nice mix of beach shack and olde English pub), and the food was very good. Not to mention the prices are very reasonable... The Grouper Sandwich was good, but I highly recommend the duck duck shrimp as an appetizer. My cousin suggested going here. She had been here several times years ago and was eager to have their lobster tail dinner entree again. I checked out their website and it looked like a fun spot. I liked how they play off the pub vibe, and it sounded like a cool spot to have dinner. We arrived early (just before 5pm) and actually found parking in their lot with no issues. We made our way to the entry area and immediately heard a woman talking VERY loudly over the speakers about the restaurant rules and specials. There were already quite a few people seated and milling about. When we reached the desk, a worker asked us how many and if we were all there. They obviously have a lot of issues with this, but never mind, we were all there, and we were seated immediately. The waiter appeared right after we were seated and took our drink orders (I didn't want a cocktail, but as many have said, they only have beer and wine). Very nice hot bread and butter followed. The wait staff was very attentive, in spite of being very busy. Then we ordered. The house salad was great. I love pecans and cranberries! I felt pretty confident ordering the fish and chips, since we were in Florida (home of fish) and considering this place eagerly compares itself to pubs from England and features pictures from pubs in the UK (home of fish and chips). The menu even says "English Fish & Chips". Holy moly. I got four greasy, soggy fish fingers (as they say in England), fish sticks here. The "chips" tasted as if they has been sitting around since lunch and were barely edible. DO NOT ORDER THIS!! My cousin thoroughly enjoyed the lobster tails she ordered, though. Both my cousin and I regretfully ordered a dessert, the "Homemade Blueberry Sour Cream Pie". Inedible. This bizarre pie (what IS the filling?) tasted terribly burned and covered in what tasted like canned blueberry pie filling. I love desserts but ate one bite of this and almost spit it out. The result was a $140 bill for three people, salads and entrees for three and two desserts and two beers and a soda. If the food was decent, I wouldn't mind. This place definitely knows it's coasting on its location. Nothing written here or elsewhere will ever dent its demand, and they know this and don't care, so this review doesn't really matter. Looking for a great place to watch the sunset and grab a good dinner, this is it. With the help of Yelp and searching for sunsets, this was an excellent choice. During our vacation on the island we ate here twice and both times there was excellent service and wonderful food. Their beer on tap is very cold and they have an outside bar while you are waiting for your table. You can grab an appetizer from the bar while you wait. Here's a revised version: --- Earlier this week, my family spent $240 on a meal that was completely average. Today, we decided to spend some time at the beach outside the Mucky Duck and then have lunch there. We parked at Captiva Cruises since we arrived early. After spending an hour at the beach, my wife and daughter stayed near the restaurant while I went to get our car to load up our beach equipment. I parked in the Mucky Duck's lot and started loading our things. That's when Sal approached us, and he was incredibly rude right from the start, asking what we were doing. We explained that we were packing up our beach items and planned to have lunch at the restaurant. He told us, very rudely, that backing into spaces wasn't allowed. I assured him I would move the car after I finished loading it. Sal walked away but then came back and rudely questioned us again. We explained ourselves once more, but he just wouldn't let it go. My wife, who rarely gets angry, finally raised her voice and said we were leaving. Sal's response? He threatened to call the cops on us. Great move, Sal! You've just lost three customers today and in the future. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. this traumatic event happened to me and my family on easter. 2 completely wasted local bros harassed me and my family to the point where the police showed up and had to remove them- a bystander called the police and multiple families left immediately because of the unsafe environment that these men created .the restaurant staff did NOTHING to help us, they did nothing to speak to us directly or accommodate us. in fact, the waiter, rusty, directly enabled this situation, Rusty sided with the men who were harassing me and my family telling me "they've been here all day" implying that because they had been at the restaurant before us, they could treat the other customers any way they wanted. despite these men harassing and screaming at me, my mom who is a senior, and my boyfriend, Rusty made us move tables and said that because these men spent more money than us and had been there at the beach longer, we were not able to keep our table because they wanted it. it was truly horrifying and sickening. Through this, Rusty had also basically admitted to me, he had over served these customers to the point of being belligerently intoxicated, creating a unsafe environment for everyone. when I asked for a refund because I was literally crying and sick to my stomach and had completely lost my appetite, they said "I wish I could help you, but I can't". this situation started because I was at a table with my family, and these men came and surrounded us and started mocking my boyfriend out of nowhere, calling him my ex boyfriend and just messing with us, next they put their dirty shoes on the seat next to me and their open beer bottles right in front of me like they owned the place and I kindly asked them to leave because we were about to eat dinner. They had a temper tantrum and told me "I couldn't do that" and then accused me of "throwing" their shoes when I just put them down on the ground gently and told them we did not want them near us. then they yelled sexist slurs, there were small children right next to us. then they physically threatened my boyfriend and were berating my mother as well. they literally bullied and harassed us nonstop until being forcibly removed by a police officer, and we just had to sit there and do nothing. and NO ONE helped us. it was a fucking nightmare and really scary. imagine trying to have a nice relaxing day with the people you love the most in the world. and ending up humiliated, degraded, sick to your stomach, and feeling completely betrayed by an establishment i assumed would be apologetic and kind under these circumstances. shame on you mucky duck, everyone who watched the way you all handled this was uncomfortable and horrified. literally shameful. read more

I was put on hold by 2 different staff members who couldn't answer the simple question "can I place a to go order". When a rude lad finally took me off hold he said "what's your order!?" I asked if I can call back when I have everyone's order?" He literally responded (and I quote) "i can take your order now but if you call back in 30 minutes the answer will be no!" We decided to buy beers and sit in the chairs near the palm trees and entrance to the beach. It wasn't too expensive for two craft beers, and we were able to carry them outside to sit and enjoy the view. It seemed like a popular spot for lunch, since there were a lot of people there, and it was easy access for beach goers. The hostess could be better in communicating the difference between indoor and outdoor seating to not tell me to wait in line for over 30 mins when I could face placed my name on a list to sit inside - very frustrating. However, our server made up for it by being so great with recommendations and her service. Our table ordered had beer bartered shrimp, Duck Duck shrimp, and the Grouper entree. All were delicious. Another classic nautically themed restaurant by the water. Ordered: oysters Rockefeller: a cheesy bite great for first-time oyster eaters, had to try them but probably wouldn't order them again due to the high price point (but this is the case everywhere) crab cake sandwich: great portion of crab in the cake, big enough cake to fill me up, tasted fresh, and had good flavor grouper sandwich: super solid sandwich, well fried, was worried that MP would be on the high end whereas other restaurants around the area have a set price for their grouper fries and coleslaw were standard Hoping they bounce back (when I went their menu had even explained how they had newly renovated after the last hurricane struck the area).
