Seafood platter (steamed shrimp, bbq shrimp, clam strips, fried shrimp, fried fish, French fries, and coleslaw)

We stopped here for a late lunch when visiting Captiva Island. Mucky Duck was the local recommendation, but it does have a tourist trap feel to it. Parking was tight but we were able to find a spot. Service was a little slow and a bit curt, but despite us coming at an off-hour (~3pm), the restaurant was pretty full and lively, so I'll give service a pass. We started with the calamari as an appetizer. The calamari was excellent! It was served hot and each piece was tender - no notes. I also sampled the shrimp bisque but it was quite chunky/thick and not creamy. It felt like the texture came from puréeing the shrimp which I found to be off-putting. It's served with oyster crackers. My friend and I ordered the seafood platter, which is big enough to share. It came with clam strips, fried shrimp, peel and eat steamed shrimp, a piece of fried fish, a single bbq shrimp, French fries (similar to McDonald's shoestring fries), coleslaw, and all the necessary condiments - tartar sauce, cocktail sauces, and an aioli. It was quite filling. My favorites from the platter were the fried shrimp and steamed shrimp - they were cooked nicely and had good texture. While we were eating, the table next to us ordered the shrimp platter and crunchy shrimp - both looked really good. I was least impressed by the lone bbq shrimp - it was a grilled shrimp and topped with bbq sauce, which didn't add anything. You'd think because there was only one piece of shrimp, that it would be something special... it was anything but. Our table also ordered the Chicken Marco Rosa (chicken breast with goat cheese, sundried tomatoes, basil, and a lemon butter sauce, served with potatoes and green beans) and shrimp tacos. The lemon butter sauce was very tasty. The shrimp tacos come with two tacos and are also served with chips and salsa. The tortilla chips are comically and obviously store-bought. Overall, I would say the food is good, but nothing exceptional or worth going out of your way for. The grouper sandwich is market price, which was $40+ (which I find absurd). The Mucky Duck is "THE place to be" at sunset, but when you come at a time other than sunset, it's pretty average.

I was excited to learn that this restaurant had finally reopened here after suffering damage from the last hurricane. Most everyone else seemed happy to support them, too, as they were quite busy at lunch. They have outside seating -- particularly good for the beach people in their covered bathing suits and sandy feet. Inside, it's air conditioned and the tables are spaced close together. I decided to do shrimp and shrimp. I started with a cup of their shrimp bisque. It was just okay. Warm on top but hotter as you dug down. After that, I had the steamed shrimp appetizer. This was much better! Peel n eat shrimp -- a nice portion -- along with cocktail sauce. I should have gotten some old bay on the side to jazz it up, but I still liked it. My husband had a Caesar salad with added grilled shrimp. It was a bit light on the dressing so he got some more to add in. The salad was fine once he got the extra dressing. I thought they should have removed the tail shells from his shrimp, however. I'm glad we came to try them, again. Now we know. They will do well here.

After a ten year hiatus and a devastating hurricane, we decided to give one of our favorites a new try. They were open and busy both inside and outside. My Caesar salad with added shrimp was good. My draft beer was cold. I was happy.

We decide to come to this place as we came here long time ago , but now is definitely something different, the plates are super high priced and what you get is just a slap in the face , we ordered some bbq shrimp with bacon , well .... This people couldn't find the smallest shrimp , we were so surprised. Then after how terrible food was and over highly priced, we thought we can at least go to the beach for a few minutes after we finished eating and then suddenly the restaurant parking attendant started telling us we need to go and can only park to eat there but not for beach , it was not even full , had lots of parking and in the past you were able to do it , that's why it was so great .... Definitely a not come back place At least server was friendly but other than her everything was unbelievable a no go

We absolutely loved our visit to the Mucky Duck. Being on the water was amazing. The sunsets were next level! Tiffany was our server and she was amazing. The food was delicious. I had the crunchy grouper sandwich. It was a ton of food and so delicious. Prices were also reasonable. Clean environment and great views.

So happy to see this iconic establishment re-open after hurricane Ivan in 2022. It's been 40 years since I've been here to catch a sunset while staying on Sanibel Island. The vibe in this rebuilt / relaunched place was uplifting. We ordered a grouper sandwich, crab cakes and some of freshest oysters I've had ever. I also tried the shrimp bisque that was so delicious. Unfortunately, the newly erected sand dune/burm blocks the view to take in a sunset. Don't let that stop you from coming here for a satisfying experience on Captiva Island.

Food was great. Restaurant was cute. Waiter was dry & a lil off putting. Oysters Rockefeller was AMAZING!! So was fish & chips & fries. Our friends had the seafood sampler and really like the bbq shrimp. I would recommend this restaurant and would go back.

Assigned I need in my own home/or my coffee shop lol

Fresh seafood I've tasted, I had the calamari and it was super tender very fresh. The service is different, you stand in line place your order then they calll (if you're sitting outside), and also have inside seating with a waitress or waiter. Just like it was before. And I'm so excited to see you guys are up and running after the hurricane, better than ever just minus the beautiful trees outside.. the beach is alone are totally worth a drive but go early before the traffic sets in. You will never see a better sunset in your life anywhere in Florida. I kinda wish I wouldn't have said that because it's giving away a treasure.

Food was good and efficient service the ambiance was the usual restaurant, get there usually before 5 pm for parking and seating. It fills up quickly even during the summer.

Island eats are meant to be enjoyed on island time - without a rush, in good company, and in the sun. I've been coming to RC Otters since I was a little kid and rented the house down Andy Rosse lane by Mucky Duck. It used to be one of our treats to eat there for breakfast instead of at our house during our summer vacations. This past visit - we missed the breakfast cut off and had lunch there. I opted for the grouper sandwich. Something about a fish sandwich on an island is just luxury to me. They offer it grilled, blackened, bronzed, or fried. Bronzed sounded intriguing to me which is a mix of savory with a hint of sweet. Wow. It was awesome. I also ordered a bloody mary which was delicious. My sister in law got the ribs and loved them. Everyone else got the fish sandwich. Service is so friendly, and they usually have live music going on. A great, affordable place to enjoy a meal. With its multi-colorful exterior it makes you feel in vacation mode just looking at it. They have an equal amount of indoor an outdoor seating, and we opted for outdoor when we came for breakfast. RC Otters is open the earliest of the few restaurants on Captiva, aside from Starbucks if you count that. All of the standard breakfast offerings were on the menu, plus a special of theirs is a breakfast sandwich that's an omelette wedged between two pieces of french toast. Kind of fun. The food was good, nothing stellar but it was decent. It was altogether an enjoyable morning with the colorful setting. They are open all day for other meals so can't speak to how the lunch or dinner food is, but we enjoyed the breakfast.

We noticed people coming in specifically for that day's specialty, and after trying it ourselves, we completely understand why. The shop itself is pretty simple, but the star of the show is the homemade ice cream. They offer an incredible selection of flavors, and there's truly something for everyone. I ordered the Brownie Batter and Gator Tracks, and while both were delicious, the Brownie Batter was my favorite. If you're a chocolate lover like I am, it's rich, decadent, and full of chocolate flavor. We also tried one of the sorbets, which was good, but it didn't stand out quite as much as the ice cream. The only suggestion I'd have is to include descriptions next to each flavor on the menu board. With so many unique options, almost every customer ahead of us had questions about what was in each flavor. The employees were incredibly knowledgeable and patiently answered every question, which was impressive considering how many flavors they offer. Having descriptions posted would help keep the line moving while making it a little easier to choose. One of my favorite touches was something completely unexpected. They have three-ring binders for each of the 50 states where visitors can sign their names and leave a note. Our group represented three different states, and the kids had so much fun finding our states and adding our names. It's such a simple idea, but it made the experience feel personal and memorable.
