We went to this location about 2 years ago. It was good! Had to be in greenfield today so thought we would go back since tenderloins are one of our favorite meals! Let me preface this by stating we get that Restaurants are understaffed and having a difficult time finding workers. With that said that was not the case at this restaurant! There were plenty of workers. We ordered our food at 11:53 according to my food order receipt. We did not receive our food until 1245! We waited patiently outside for about 35 minutes at which point I went in and the cashier checked on our order. She told me they were working on it. I was still patient at this point. Finally got our food at 12:45 at which point I discovered the fries were cold. Proceeded to go back inside and told them my fries were cold she told the line workers to make new fries. I stood there and patiently waited yet again which took at least another 15 minutes before my fries were done. I'm fairly certain she understood my frustration and did indeed keep a smile on her face the whole time....however this was beyond ridiculous. I heard her make the comment to somebody else, I'm not sure this was intended for me, she said this is not a fast food restaurant. She is correct it is not a fast food restaurant but it certainly shouldn't take an hour and 15 minutes to be able to eat my food. By the time the fries were done, my tenderloin was cold! Upon leaving we go back into the restaurant to ask for refills on our drinks. She informed me there were no refills on root beer!!! This is when I truly lost it. How could she not just give us a refill after what we just went through? We will never go back again! read more

If you ever find yourself driving through Greenfield you have to stop in The Mug. It takes drive-in/root beer stand restaurants to a whole new level. Much of the protein is locally sourced from Tyner Pond farms, which is also located in Greenfield. There is also a sign hanging up that tells the customer where else their products are being sourced from. Even though it was dead winter, I was still able to eat her thanks to the closed in patio with heaters. It makes you feel like you're sitting outside but you can stay warm. I had a burger and it was delicious! The perfect amount of "good grease". The garlic fries have me dreaming. My favorite food topped with my favorite spice! First visit was a hit. Wasn't sure about the seating and wouldn't necessarily recommend eating in for a leisurely meal on a snow covered day, it is a drive-in after all. There were 2 of us. Mom had the grilled tenderloin and regular fries and it was very good. Tasted very fresh and tender but could have used a little seasoning. The fries were fine, nothing exciting but hot and crispy. I had the Cuban Sandwich and sweet potato waffle fries. Both were perfect portions, the bun was a carrier for the meat rather than a meal in itself. Everything was served at good temps but the coolness of the space (today's temp is 17!) cooled the food quickly. Being a fan of Graham Central Station mandated that I get a scoop. It did not disappoint. My next trip will be on a warmer day when we can eat at the outside tables or in the car (not a big fan of eating over a steering wheel) or carry out. read more

Nice local farm to table car hop. If you dont want to eat in your car you can order inside and set at an outdoor table. I always come for the same thing the breaded pork tenderloin and root beer. Tenderloin is big and very tasty. I occasionally add the sweet potato fries as well. About 45 minutes away from me but make the trip serval times a year for the tenderloin. read more

I would like to say I got to try one of Indiana's best tenderloins, but due to 50 minute ticket times I was not able to. Do not try this place unless you have your sleeping bags with you. The server did not tell us how long the wait would be. Ticket times for this type of place should never be this long. I would suggest the owners rethinking only having two fryers. This was my first time going to The Mug and I will never try this again unless I have a whole day to waste sitting outside waiting for a tenderloin. But the root beer float was decent. read more

I'm so sad to do this, but I've been disappointed too many times lately. Sometime (last spring I believe) the mug changed their grill. Ever since then, burgers have not been the same. Instead of being big juicy burgers they're flat, lifeless, dry patties. The first few times I chalked it up to learning the new grill (I'm not a chef so I optimistically hoped new equipment functioned different) but the disappointment has remained steady so our patronage has declined drastically. The Mug is a hidden gem East of Indy in Greenfield. If you're wandering Indiana and happen to be nearby, stop in for lunch, dinner or a night time ice cream snack. The Mug is just North of US40 (Washington St.) on Apple St. What makes Mug unique is the locally sourced food and ingredients that they purchase and add in to their menu offerings. My favorite items are anything with pork in them. Kids can get grilled cheese, a hamburger or cheeseburger, chicken fingers or a hot dog and then awesome French fries or a whole sliced Apple as a side. Mug also sells root beer that tastes similar to IBC root beer to me. Try to save room for dessert if you can, because just like the unique and local food, The Mug has local unique flavors of ice cream too. Our family's favorite is Graham Central - graham crackers and ice cream that tastes like graham crackers with bits of chocolate and caramel swirled throughout. Be aware that it can take a while for your food to be prepared - around 20-30 minutes for my family of 5. This is because of the high restaurant quality of the food; this isn't your average drive in. There are plenty of things to do while you wait, especially for kids: coloring books and crayons, games like Yahtzee, Boggle or other kids games. They now have an enclosed outdoor area with picnic tables and heaters for cool nights. Or you can sit outside at tables as well. And if you want to just stay in your car you can park and order from the speakers like a typical drive in. The service is awesome - I think a lot of this has to do with how proud the proprietors are of their menu and locally sourced food. Everyone is happy and patient in helping you understand the menu and provide recommendations. Definitely a place worth stopping by if you are in the area! read more

Undecided....we dined outside once and had carry out once. I'd say on both occasions we were 80% pleased overall. I tried the tenderloin and while it seemed like a quality piece of meat, the breading was bland and lacked seasoning. I had the 100% grass fed double burger my 2nd visit. Once again quality meat but a lack of seasoning and it was overcooked ( I would've sent it back if dining in). The pulled pork was good and the chicken sandwich was tasty. I do love the regular and sweet potato waffle fries. We love to support local businesses so I hope they modify the seasoning and learn how to cook a medium to medium well burger instead of charbroiling it. Hands down the BEST drive in. The food is several steps above typical drive in food. The meat is much higher quality and locally sourced. We totally want The Mug to succeed, farm to table-wise...but customer service needs to be a goal, too. 3 out of the 4 times we've ever been, the lack of customer service and/or even want of serving to the customer has been naught. Even when not busy...standing around two people outside kinda not busy...eye contact, enthusiasm or at least pretend enthusiasm lacked.
