Really nice study cafe about 20 mins from UCI campus. The interior is actually bigger than it looks from the outside and is very cute inside. Parking is easy as well, it's crowded but you will find parking. There is a lot of seating with outlets all over, but this place gets really busy really quickly. By 12-1pm the place was filled with people. There's also a little bit of seating outside. Tried the banana latte and americano. Both were good! I like their selection of drinks and want to go back to try more. The one con is that because it's crowded their wifi is pretty slow but other than that I really like the vibe of the place overall :-) read more

New Irvine coffee shop alert! Had to stop by on my trip home as it's so close to Zion Market. I got the banana caramel latte which was a little too caramel and not enough banana for my liking - compared to the one at In-sit coffee in costa mesa, would prefer the one at in-sit just because this one was a little too sweet for me. I would recommend their foam items including the matcha foam coffee! Really creamy and luscious. Also ordered two food items, the cream scone which was light despite the cream, and the chicken sriracha croffle which was beautifully crisp and flavorful, and came with amazing wavy chips. He felt the matcha was extremely strong which the barista said is a common sentiment there. They didn't have much selection of snacks/food when we got there a bit later on a Saturday morning. They usually felt a little below standard and left me disappointed. There is a lot of seating inside and outside, but because it's always busy, finding a seat is difficult. The wifi has not worked for 60% of the time, but when it does, it's great! The parking situation is never an issue as it's in a huge plaza. Even though prices everywhere are high for coffee and pastries, I was ready to pay whatever the cost for a plain latte. What I wasn't ready for was that the coffee tasted bland and very "watered down". Don't know if it is the quality of the coffee used or if the barista got the proportions of espresso and milk wrong. I came with high expectations because I 've went out of my way to go to The Mugs location in Diamond Bar because I like the coffee and the ambiance there. Unfortunately, my recent experience at The Mugs Irvine was a disappointment. I had to wait 20min for my Iced Vanilla Latte. I went on a Friday morning about 9am and I guess it was the time for their weekly delivery. From what I could tell, there were two people working at that time and they would take everyone's order, but no-one was actually making the coffee. I saw about 10 order receipts in front of mine and the lady didn't bother to tell me that it was going to be a long wait. I think that's the least you can do. Drink: I watched the barista make my drink and it couldn't be done any more carelessly. I almost wanted to jump to the other side of the counter and make it myself. Space: There are a lot of tables and plenty of seating but not enough ACTUAL space so you're constantly moving tables and chairs to get through the store. It's a low ceiling so it will get pretty loud. If that doesn't bother you than it's a good study place. read more

I ordered a hot matcha latte with almond milk ... the cup looked like a tall size from Starbucks and cost over $8... it wasn't good matcha either. I think the lady mentioned their matcha is pre-sweetened which is usually the worst kind. Inside it looks a bit crowded but there are quite a few tables in the back. The last few times I've gone, they've been training new employees, so please be patient as the newbies learn the ropes. I got the blueberry matcha and I didn't really like it as much. I believe they use some kind of blueberry puree and a premade thick matcha liquid for this drink. The drink itself was way too sweet for me and the drink was very grainy. I'm able to drink it if it's very watered down but it was just way too grainy and sweet for me to finish. If I'm being honest, one of the more disappointing matchas in OC. Service was efficient and we got the drink pretty quick though! The area is also very clean and there's a lot of seating. read more

I've been a huge fan of The Mugs in Fullerton and never leave disappointed, so when I tried the location in Irvine I was a little disappointed. They prepare the matchas completely differently and use a matcha syrup (?) The quality of the matcha is worse than the Fullerton one and you can see and taste the difference. The croffles were exactly the same though, which I was very happy about. They do also have a very cute outdoor space. Very cute cafe but I prefer the Fullerton location a lot more. They also don't have a point system like Fullerton does. read more

Happy to see the new location! We used to go to the location in Westminster when we lived closer to there, but stopped because we moved down here. Usually get the Spanish Latte, but some of the new drinks have been great. My girlfriend especially likes the Matcha Cream Foam coffee. Can order from a tablet for convenience. Usually see people studying when I'm there so the atmosphere is decently quiet. Service is quick as well. As for food, I tried the pizza croffle and it was pretty solid. Not a big fan of syrupy-drinks, so this gets a 3 stars from me. If you're a fan of natural flavorings or syrupy flavor, they actually do a nice job of incorporating it with the coffee. It's tucked away in a corner and the ambiance seems nice for studying or meeting up with friends to chat. Definitely a hard skip during the morning rush if you are on a time crunch, as their staff has difficulty handling the volume of requests and the timing between drinks is largely inconsistent. For example, I ordered two lattes and it took about 15 mins for the barista to begin making the order. Others who ordered much after me for dine in got their drinks before me. Overall, we were in and out in 20 mins, which was not ideal as we both wfm and were not expecting to be out quite so long. We noticed other patrons politely asking for their orders as they were also on a time limit, with one regular leaving entirely after waiting patiently to order for around 10 mins. The saving grace was that the drinks were worth the wait! Super delicious and sweet. Would definitely come back at a chiller time. read more
