The restaurant seems to be run by untrained staff that made our experience much worse than need be. Everyone was nice but our dinner came out before we had really started our appetizers, and they brought out our dessert in the middle of us eating dinner. We asked for basics like cups for our water, ice and serving utensils and had to ask multiple times to get any of it. Nobody ever cleared our finished plates so we ended up just moving everything from all 3 courses to one end of the table. They messed up our drink order and just left the wrong ones on our table (and on our bill). The food was good but everything (no matter what you order), tastes like liquid smoke. I do not see us going back given how many better run options there are in Houston but glad we gave it a try. read more

Came to this location for the first time this past Saturday for brunch. Located inside Uptown Park, I didn't have any trouble finding a parking spot close to the restaurant. Upon entering, there were a couple of staff members at the host stand. A man who completely ignored me and a lady who was on the phone so she couldn't help me. I waited a bit until the hostess got off the phone and I told her that my friend had a reservation. Gave her the name but she was having a hard time looking for it, so I finally simply texted my friend where they were seated and found them myself. Not sure if my friends chose to sit out in the patio area or if they had chosen to sit there. But as we were eating, the sun was beating down on us hard. So this wasn't a very fun experience for me. Especially for being here the first time. The foods were not bad. And our waitress was awesome because she was quick with everything. I came for their brunch with a friend and for 2 people the family style is a great deal. There was nothing to rave about taste wise but it was decent. HOWEVER, I came recently for dinner and scoured the menu for at least 30 minutes for something to eat despite being starving. I wanted the harvest bowl which was listed for lunch and I was told could be made for dinner but apparently not. I knew better than to order a steak and the salads looked a bit sad on previous reviews. My friend ordered the smoked dip duo as an appetizer and despite the presentation the flavor was disappointing. He also got the filet with a side of fries. He ordered it med well and it came out way past well like a hockey puck. I decided to get the "spoon bread" thinking it would be moist corn bread but it is legitimately uncooked batter with a crust. I immediately asked to send it back without even trying it but the manager urged me to try it first. It tasted like boiled onions with the texture of baby food. They took it away and took it off of my check. They offered to get me something else but I had no faith in the kitchen. My drink (the grapefruit sour) was half decent though. The service is good and bathrooms are clean with plenty of parking. They have live music and when it's food it adds to the vibe but when it's bad... well it gives a layer of entertainment either way. The restaurant was nice and cozy on the inside. Staff were nice and we were seated promptly. We were offered the happy hour menu and ordered a few drinks off the menu to start off. Now nothing against our server because she was really nice. But the service was extremely slow for the restaurant being that empty on a Saturday. We ordered some appetizers which also took some time to make. The oysters were ok at best and the onion rings were actually really good! My wife ordered the salmon Caesar salad and I got the wild boar chili. I'm still not 100% sure why it took over 30 mins to get the food. On top of that, they over cooked my daughter's burger, forgot my chips that I had to ask for near the end of my meal. I booked an event at The Rustic back in June of this year for this week. Originally was going to book the downtown location but they easily switched me to the Uptown location since it would be more convenient for our guests. We had 30 guests. Communication was excellent, Shea and Kristina helped me and then Ingrid took over once I moved the reservation. Tkoi was the ops manager who assisted once we were settled. Our party arrived right at 530pm, we booked a 3 hour event. We knew parking would be a challenge, so many people carpooled. Little did we know, there is a parking garage that is free and across the street. I might have missed that detail, if not, definitely recommend that instead of trying to find parking. I did valet for 8.00 which was not bad at all. We were seated inside right in front of the stage which was nice, the area was sectioned off, with about 6 picnic tables. We had 3 servers who took great care of us from start to finish. I selected Corn Hole as a game, which was an added cost but very reasonable. My guys loved this and it was also right in front of the open area. There was a performer that night but we could not hear that well. We mostly mingled and talked with our party anyway, the band was a nice touch behind the scenes. Food service was on time and plentiful, appetizers served at 545, meal at 615. It was plenty of food. The food: excellent! I selected wild boar meatballs, chicken tamales and cracklin deviled eggs. My favorite app was the chicken tamale. Very nice flavor with a little kick of spice. The meatballs were good too and so were the eggs. They were my least favorite. They kept the apps coming and we had food setup on each table along with drink service. My second favorite thing was the Texas fondue. It was nice and spicy too, the chips did not seem to be tortilla chips but they were good and crispy. The chicken and brisket tacos were very good. Chicken tinga was my favorite and everyone devoured them and the mushrooms were a surprise hit. Some of my party ordered off the menu as they stayed behind after our time was over. It was not crowded although it was a Thursday night. Our drink package included premium liquor, beer and wine and soft drinks. The house margarita was included, the package accommodated the group well. The giant beers were refreshing and they had a wide variety on tap. Only complaint: the restrooms did not have towels, they had dryers that shut off really quickly. Overall, I was very pleased with the communication throughout, the venue itself and the food and drinks. I would love to come back when I can actually listen to some music. read more

I have visited this rustic location several times with no issues. On Wednesday this week I recommended it for a business dinner. We all had steaks and I had my normal NY Strip steak. I was in shock at the steak served tonight. First I ordered it medium and it was med-well throughout. I would have sent it back but we had already had to wait a minute overall to get our steaks. Additionally, I have never had such a bland tasting steak in my life. The steak literally had zero flavor. It was bad enough I had to ask for salt and pepper to get some flavor. What's even worse is everyone one at the table had the same comment on the ribeyes and fillets. I was shocked as I never had this experience previously. The only reason I am giving 3 stars is due to our waitress. She deserves 5. She was great and best apologetic for the wait and experience. Unfortunately I forgot her name. We got the deviled eggs to start and they were some of the best I've ever had for sure. We also got the mushroom side and hands down the best mushroom I've ever had. I can't explain it- it was thin sliced and marinated in something perfect. Then my mom and I both got the cedar plank salmon and the portion was HUGE- I loved it. Usually restaurants skimp on the protein, especially fish, so I really appreciate that they didn't do that! We had been here once before and thought it was mid but decided to give it one more try. The music was incredibly loud. The dip was good. The French dip had so much horse radish it was overpowering. The salmon looked good and the edges were great but it was definitely raw, the waitress said they cook it medium rare but it was straight up rare. On the twice baked potato I asked if they put extra sour cream on top to please leave off, she assured me they don't, it def came out with a large dollop of sour cream on top. The steak was good. First of all, I'm not really sure if this place is dog friendly or not. Yelp said it was so my fiancé and I brought our two goldendoodles here on a Saturday night. We had reservations for outdoor seating and I even noted on the reservation that we we had two dogs with us. When we went to check in with the host she told us they don't allow dogs at this establishment. She then went to go speak to her manager and her manager told us it was fine for us to dine here. So yeah. Not sure if their outdoor patio is truly dog friendly or not. Food was good but service was a little on the slower side. We had the smoked dip duo, the prime rib and the spicy Caesar salad with chicken. The dip was probably my favorite thing out of the three. The rest were good but nothing to write home about. My fiance asked for his prime rib to be cooked medium rare but it was more medium. I did enjoy the live music. Came on a Sunday morning to try their Sunday Brunch. It was $20 a person for 9 items. Everything was so good. Even my 6&8 year old boys enjoyed the food. The Hot Chicken was a little to spicy for them but it didn't kick in until they were half way in. They still enjoyed the bacon, avocado toast, and biscuits and gray. "Miss Agnes Sweets" was perfect for dessert with some fruit. I really enjoyed the cucumber and jicama salad. It was so refreshing and a great balance against the hardy platter. The open space and natural sunlight coming through really set the beautiful Sunday morning brunch as a family. Live music was setting up by the time we left so we missed out on it. We had a team in town for a meeting and The Rustic had great ambiance and service. The patio area was set up with long picnic tables for big parties. It was nice because we were able to occupy the whole patio. The waitresses were very attentive and accommodating since our guests were from Brazil and not used to the cold so they put heaters up for us. I ordered the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. I didn't get a chance to take pictures of the shareable sides, but they were good portions. I did not have a chance to drink so I can't comment on that. I went for brunch and the food was very lackluster. I sent back the French toast because something about the taste was off to me initially I thought it was the rosemary syrup and they brought me another version, which was the kids version. I think the vanilla custard it was soaked in threw off the taste for me. the potatoes were my favorite part. That egg dish with Verde was okay. The pepper bacon was extremely peppery. i'm sure lunch would be better but for brunch it was a miss for me. The price was not expensive though.
