After having been spoiled by stylists from La Jolla, to Manhattan Beach to Pasadena, CA, after relocating to the PNW, I started my search in Portland. After a few failed attempts in coordinating appointments at top salons in Portland (they rescheduled and then I had to reschedule, then they rescheduled), I asked a colleague where she had just gone (her coloring looked fantastic). She referred me to Nico Bella. I called and immediately got an appointment with Wendee. Located in downtown Camas, I have always been able to find a parking spot within a block. Its a cute little shop that offers other treatments (I have used the manicurist, too). Once having my hair done by Wendee, I have never wandered. It's refreshing to have a stylist give you an honest opinion when experimenting with a new hairdo or look. Plus, I look forward to escaping the hectic work day to her quiet salon and leaving revitalized. As if that wasn't enough, during Covid, she has developed the best salon safety protocols hands down. I have sent multiple family members to visit her salon, feeling assured that she follows so many safety protocols. Plus, family members have left feeling the way I do. Within a few days of the pedicure, my pinky toenail started lifting and peeling, then came off. It left a painful stub of nail behind that kept snagging and tearing. It was painful enough that I couldn't work out or run, and I even had to take a break from shoes for a couple of days. I've never had anything like this happen before, and the timing lines up directly with the service. The rest of the appointment also felt low-effort. The no-polish manicure included no buffing at all, so my nails looked just as ridged as when I walked in. The shaping was lazy -- they clipped my nails straight across, quickly filed, and moved on. Cuticle work was harsh; it felt like they were just chopping cuticles off rather than doing careful prep. Finally, the hygiene practices made me uneasy. After using the foot tools, the tech dunked them in the same wash basin I had my feet in and then put them back in the tray. I read the other reviews before coming to this place and figured I would give it a shot anyway, but I wish I hadn't.

They have several different options to choose from at different price points but they are all very reasonable, especially for the service you get! I used to think the jelly pedicure sounded silly but I suddenly felt drawn to it and I'm glad I gave it a try because it is soooo good! The powder dissolves in water and as you stir your feet around it turns into this thick, warm gel that is really satisfying. I was so disappointed when it was time to drain. Again, I don't do anything fancy on my nails, but the paint job is always consistent. The massages are generous, the chairs are comfortable, they offer complementary beverages (including alcohol, if that's your thing), and the staff are very sweet. It's a modern and upscale looking salon that is clean, aesthetically pleasing, and in a convenient location. I will keep going back! They were clearly poorly done, showing how she put no care or real effort into my nails. On top of that, she caused me some of the worst pain I've ever had from a nail appointment. About a week and a half later, my pinky nail started lifting, which was extremely painful and a clear sign the acrylic was applied incorrectly. She was passive-aggressive throughout, calling me old and saying my head looked too big for my body in a backhanded way. When she started on my nail design, she became openly insulting, condescending, and belittling. I have auditory processing issues, and I'm on the spectrum, so explaining things concisely is one of my biggest struggles. Even with a reference photo for her, I struggled to answer her questions in a way that satisfied her. She told me I was giving her a headache and kept repeating the same few words, louder and more irritated, over and over again, when I would try to ask for clarification. I felt really uncomfortable and just wanted to leave. In the end, my sisters' and my nails cost $300--$150 for what are honestly the worst acrylics I've ever gotten. She rushed to finish so quickly that I didn't even get to properly check them until I got home, when it was obvious how bad, painful, and poorly done they were.
