The gel was already missing on two nails, and one nail that was broken when I came in was just filed down with gel applied over it instead of being properly repaired. It broke again shortly after. After only a week, I ended up going back to my regular nail salon to have the entire gel manicure redone because the quality just wasn't there. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I was really disappointed, especially after giving this salon a second chance. I was hoping to find a great local spot, but unfortunately this wasn't it. Not worth it. Unsure how they have great reviews.

Not only did they bad-mouth me to their other co-workers, but they were also speaking poorly of other customers who seemed to be their returning clients, referring to them as "cunts" or "witches." Her gel acrylic work is subpar, and the nails on my left hand were shorter than on my right, so I had to file them down at home. The lady who did my gel pedicure the second time made my left toe bleed. She also used her fists to pound my calves very strongly, which was not pleasant and felt painful. The workers here are very rude, mean, and unkind humans. Please do not waste your money and business here.

Throughout my service, Katie was not only personable but also extremely diligent and meticulous. After a horrendous experience at the last nail studio that I had visited, I was terrified of the drill and cuticle trimming process, but Katie was very gentle and paid considerable attention to every part of my nail. When it came to the shaping and filing process, she was exceptionally meticulous and made sure to perform a side-by-side comparison of each nail to ensure that that they were uniform in both length and shape. Once she got to the design portion, she was very detail-oriented and took the time to ensure that it was perfectly executed. Needless to say, I'm extremely satisfied with my nails and the level of service that I received. Katie not only perfectly achieved the design that I had wanted but also delivered exceptional service that was both personable and professional. I contacted the salon and asked to have the problem corrected by a different nail technician because I was not comfortable returning to the same person. I was told my only option was a redo with the original technician. That did not feel like a reasonable solution after the initial service failed so quickly. I gave the salon an opportunity to make things right before posting this review. I wasn't asking for anything excessive just to have the work properly corrected by someone else. Unfortunately, they were unwilling to accommodate that request.

After I reminded them that I had an appointment, they asked what kind of nails I wanted. When I said I hadn't decided yet, they told me they didn't have time for long nails. Once I sat down, I was told I couldn't use the same color for my manicure and pedicure because they didn't want to share the same bottle between technicians, so I had to choose a different color for my toes. Then I asked for my usual dip manicure and was told they only had time for gel. When I asked about dip, I was told they had already informed me of that, which they hadn't. If the type of manicure affected scheduling, someone should have asked when I booked the appointment or when I called before coming in. Instead, I felt like I was being treated as the inconvenience, despite having an appointment and being a longtime customer. I ended up skipping my manicure altogether and left feeling disappointed. After years of coming here, this experience was enough that I won't be returning.

I also had warmth and sensitivity around my thumb nail beds and red, tender cuticles on both ring fingers. The salon did take steps to rectify the situation when I reached out, which I appreciate. However, based on my experience, I would be cautious about getting hard gel removed here and would recommend going elsewhere for that service.

I was just going to let it go, but seeing that this happened with the same nail tech more than once within a few hours, I felt it was necessary to write this. I do want to make it clear that this nail tech was kind to me, and wasn't rude at any point of the interaction. Everyone working yesterday was friendly and accommodating of my last-minute call to arrange a pedicure. I just asked for the basic pedicure with clear polish. It took a total of ~30 minutes. I gave an extra star because of the friendliness, and because even the most basic pedicure comes with a hot stone leg rub, which I've never seen at a nail salon before. That part of the pedicure was very enjoyable. I also liked the massage chair, which was firm and not yet worn out, but also not so aggressive on default that I couldn't keep my feet still. I mainly wanted a pedicure to help soften the bottoms of my feet and to have my nails evenly shaped. My last pedicure was about a month ago, so we aren't talking about anything crazy here. It should have been normal operating procedure. On the majority of my toes, the nail tech cut them way too short and filed them to the point she was only filing my skin, and I moved uncomfortably multiple times but it didn't stop her. Afterwards I saw that one of my toes was slightly bleeding, while several others were cut to the quick. She must have seen this, but continued to use the nail tools without hesitation. I'd say it's a health concern, as you never know if the tools are being properly cleaned in between customers. It takes a LOT for me to confront someone and tell them to stop doing something, so while it could be argued that I should have spoken up, I also feel that someone who does this for a living should know when a nail is too short. I am getting a pedicure to relax, not to critique someone on how they're doing their job. Additionally, I know I just asked for a clear coat, but this isn't the first time I've asked for that and typically the nails look shinier than they did after this time, so I'm pretty sure that just a primer was used. I was also very turned off to how all the towels being used were white and stained with who-knows-what beyond nail polish, and although I witnessed multiple employees cleaning, I noticed that the wipes they were using were extremely dirty, meaning they were either reusing them or the place just got that dirty between cleanings. This has to be one of the worse nail salons I have ever been too. I expected something completely different than what the reviews suggested. What makes me so angry is that I don't even know if these reviews are even real or if they paid people to write them fake ones. Ill get to that later. I walked into their salons after looking them up and ignored Kelly T's review thinking she may be fluke and a one time occurrence but boy was I ever so wrong. I walked in and was greeted with a fake and disingenuous smile which makes me uncomfortable from the start. The lady that did my nails hardly even spoke any English and didn't ask me what i wanted or even look at me while she did my nails. The whole time she was doing my nails she was just chatting away with another person in the salon in another language. She didn't pay attention to what she was doing and cut me a few times. This lady was hardly gentle and instead of cutting the cuticles off my finger gently, she used a dull unwashed set of nail clippers to rip them off my fingers. Even as i type this now my fingers still ache from when she did my manicure. What makes this whole experience worse is they tried to charge me an extra 10 dollars at the end because they gave me some lotion for the bleeding on my hands and that they had to massage my hands. The final slap in the face was when they retracted the 10 extra dollars they were going to charge me only after finding out that i came to them from yelp. The manager even had the decency to come over and told me that if I write them a good review they will give me a free manicure next time. Stay away from this salon and don't ignore the bad reviews or you will regret it like i did. I promise them i would write them a review on yelp, just not the one they wanted. They can keep the free manicure, I wont be coming back. read more

I came in for a shellac manicure after being in the neighborhood and seeing the great reviews on Yelp. I was truly disappointed in the overall experience. First of all, the pricing on their website is wrong. A pedicure is $30, if you want callus remover, it's an extra $10. However, callus remover is only $5, but they want you to upgrade to the $40 pedicure. I don't have a problem paying that much for a pedicure, but it wasn't even that great. My pedicure was done so fast and she hardly did anything. My shellac manicure turned out great, it looks really nice and that's the only reason why I would get a 2 star review. However, she was rushing the whole time and kept complementing me and telling me that anything I wanted she would do. I get it, it's a great business approach but I didn't feel it was genuine. The lights of the LED burned my nails when I put them in and I got no lotion or massage on my hands. So my hands were left feeling super dry from the lights. Lastly, at the end she insisted that I write a yelp review to get $5 off. The funny part is that I did and then she insisted that I take pictures of my nails...I didn't end up posting but she actually grabbed my phone to take pictures of my nails and to read what I wrote. After I left the salon, it dawned on me. All the yelp reviewers are suckered into leaving a good review so that they get the $5 off. Also, all the pictures were forced just like mine were. All the pictures are similar in nature and most reviewers are new accounts. I give them credit for the business hussle but when I get my manicure/pedicure I don't want to be hustled or annoyed during the process or have to deal with this stuff. I keep telling myself to write a review about this place but I always forget, anyways, tonight I rushed home with only one thing on my mind... yelp!!! . Tonight was my 5th time here (first time was for my set and the rest have been fills). I've always been so impressed by these ladies! This is by far the most customer-centered nail salon I've ever gone to. I know everyone keeps focusing on KIM because yeah- she's amazing, but the other ladies deserve just as much praise. I'm on my feet all day from either work, volunteering at my kids school, etc... my feet can get pretty gross between fills and pedicure appointments. These ladies take such good care of me! I had a two hour (yes I said 2 hour) pedicure! The lady (gosh, she's done my pedicure three times already and I keep forgetting her name* haha face* took her time and made me feel completely pampered. Okay, back to KIM she is so amazingly skilled at her craft. Every nail is shaped to perfection. I have really bad OCD so I'm constantly double-checking the length and shape of my nails at past nail salons I've gone to, but here, I've never had to give it a second glance. You can trust that you're gonna have an outstanding manicure and pedicure here! This is THE spot to go to. Also, I saw a few complaints about wait times but seriously though, if you're gonna go to one of the best nail salons in LA JOLLA Oh and one more thing. These ladies are so sweet and good natured. It's a welcoming atmosphere. We all know some other nail salons can be quite the opposite. These ladies make it their priority to have you feeling relaxed, good about yourself, and satisfied. I wish this place was closer to my house. I came here an hour before a date because my toe nails were looking like a hot mess. Just to clarify, it was the nail polish that was looking like a hot mess, not my toes. I called 10 minutes prior and they said they could take me in. I wasn't familiar with the area They had a nice selection of colors on the wall and I waited there for about 7-10 minutes before I got seated at one of their luxurious massage chairs. These were probably the nicest nail salon chairs I've ever sat in. The lady who was doing my pedicure was really cool. I told her I had a date after this appointment. before she applied on the nail polish, she asked me if I wanted some lotion for my legs to make them nice and smooth since I was wearing a skirt that night. I said sure... (this was aside to the lotion that was already on my legs and apparently this other lotion was special). When she put the nail color on one toenail, she stopped and asked something I've never heard any one of my manicurists ever say to me, "do you like this nail color?" Me: "What? Did you just ask me if I liked this nail color?" she say.. Because it sometimes looks different on a nail than from whatever's in the bottle" Me: "yeah I love it! Thanks for asking!" I got my nails done for the first time here a few months ago and I loved it. I went again today and it was everything I expected and more. First of all, I love how clean the place is. This place is always clean and nicely decorated. Every time I come here the staff is super friendly and attentive. I did not have an appointment this time but I got my nails done right away. I got gel nails with KIM. She is AMAZING. I showed her a picture of what I wanted to get done and she went above and beyond what I expected. What I appreciated the most was her attention to detail. It took a little over an hour to get my nails done but you definitely pay for what you get at THE NAIL SHOP My nails took multiple steps and KIM made sure to do every step with care. She did not rush through anything. She also asked for my opinion throughout the entire process. I appreciated this a lot because it shows how attentive she is to what I like. Kim did a fabulous job on my nails! I would feel like cheating having anyone else do my nails, I am so glad that I found a place to not only have my nails done, but to come up and feel like I can enjoy myself and get a little mini vacation surrounded by very kind and women who just brighten my day! everyone in the store is so thoughtful and helpful, I personally don't know very much about nails so when I came in for the first time they helped me see different colors, showing me all the different options so I could pick whichever one I liked best. there is no rush, and they made me feel very welcome and at home! It was so sweet, and unlike most services I've ever experienced before! I almost feel like I'm just having a friend do my nails, not some random stranger who barely talks to me. It is always such a joy to come in and have anything done from pedicures to beautiful nails! This place is AMAZING! My nails have been done by everyone in the shop & ALL of them are very skilled & great at their jobs. KIM the owner is very knowledgeable and knows what she's doing. I primarily go to her for my acrylics. I first came to her with overly-drilled natural nails that were so thin & brittle. She recommended that because my nails were so frail - that I keep a thin layer of acrylics on top since I do a lot with my hands for work. I'm very picky about shape, and length but she just gets it! I trust her completely. They will always look as natural as possible. People always ask me if my nails are really mine! If for some reason she's not available, HANA does an equally amazing job at acrylics and fills. I am typically never picky about who does my pedicures because all of them are just that good! They are all highly skilled. I can tell that KIM didn't just pick anyone to work in the salon. I come every week to keep my nails perfect! I have always been extremely picky about my nails. My acrylics have to be done perfectly Of all the years I've been getting my nails done - I have NEVER been so satisfied with service, price, and best of all QUALITY of my nails. The lady who does the acrylics is very detail oriented and makes sure to take her time and make them nice even if it's closing time. They are always the perfect shape and length and are always right up to the cuticle preventing premature grow out. I have been to nail salon before that start the acrylic so far past your cuticle that you have to come back in a week for a fill. I went 3 1/2 weeks after Kim did my nails last and they still looked great! No lifting, no breaking and only I could tell where they had grown out. I am selfishly reluctant to give this place such a great rating because I love that I can walk in without an appointment, they know me by name, and they'll take me right in no questions asked. I came in casually because I was out with a bunch of my friends and I had a great time! I loved it! The girls are so sweet and they get in you in and out fast. The massage chairs are fantastic and their work is great as well. I had Lulu today. She was able to paint my nails really fast. She is really efficient and did a flawless job. I brought my daughter with me to get her nails done. Lulu was able to put flower and other designs on her nails and they were so cute. My daughter loved them! Lulu is wonderful. She tries to make you feel comfortable and will ask if you want water or something. I got the ultimate pedicure: sea salt scrub with oranges, mask, callus remover, paraffin wax, and hot stones. They made my legs feel so soft and so smooth. Will definitely come back to see them. I always ask for Lulu. I love this shop! I will definitely keep coming here to get my nails done. read more

Horrible Pedicure! If you were looking for a pedicure that lasts longer than a week steer clear of this place! This is what my pedicure looked like after one week! And the worst part was it was supposed to be a deluxe pedicure with a 15 minute massage and it ended up to be barely a rub for three minutes! This place is a complete rip off and they're only there to try to get your money and add on services that they don't deliver. By the time my friend and I got out of there she had already had a manicure and pedicure the day before so she only got a 15 minute massage on her feet and I got a pedicure and gel nails which are advertised for $25- they charged us $145! I almost had a heart attack! My gel nails are also falling apart after a little more than a week. Buyer beware! If you don't want to get ripped off and get good nail services this is definitely NOT the place to go!! read more

I'm a big fan of all the ladies. I don't do my nails that often but when I have a big occasion I usually like to get them done. I can always trust them to make my nails look flawless. Their service is impeccable. They offer iced water and green tea which is super nice. They seem to really care about the customers and how they are feeling. I love my manicures and pedicures! If something happens to my nails within one or two days, they are always willing to fix it free of charge which is so nice. I've been coming here for a while and I'm absolutely in love. The location is great. After hanging out at the beach with friends, my friends and I can always come here to get our mani and pedis. The ladies are really sweet and try to make conversation which might seem awkward if you have a language barrier but they try their best and it usually makes the experience so much better. read more

Made an appointment for a friend and I to get birthday manicures the afternoon of April 10th . She got regular polish on her nails and I got a gel polish on mine. We arrived a few minutes early and were helped right away. Their gel mani price is very reasonable, just 25$. And the best part? It's been more than two weeks and there isn't a SINGLE CHIP on any of my nails! They're still shiny, too! With the exception of normal nail growth, you'd think I just got them done today. Gel polish generally does not last this long on me without a chip or a smudge or full-on peeling off, so this is certainly a blessing. My friend's polish lasted a week with no chips or smudges, unheard of for her as well. Everyone who works there is very nice. Thank you Kim, Lulu, Quan anh Nhi. I booked an appointment with LU LU about a week before hand because I knew just how popular she was.she was so gentle with my nails and got done with my gel pedicure in 40 mins!!!! I've gone there more than my share of times and everyone is really great. They have very good quality pedicure stations and nail stations.... Also, all of the employees here are great when it comes to having a conversation. They love to see how you are and to make sure everything is just right for their client. I thought to myself, " Why would I ever feel the need to request someone." Well, you go for a while, then you start to see a certain person, you like how he/she does your nails or pedicure and its a plus if they can keep good conversation... so in the end you've had a good experience...money and time well spent and you leave with great looking nails or toes whichever you prefer....... This place was absolutely amazing! I had a wax with Kim, a gel pedicure with Mai, and a 15-minute neck and shoulder massage with Michelle, and every single service exceeded my expectations. All three women were incredibly kind, professional, and detail-oriented. The salon itself is clean, tidy, and peaceful, which immediately put me at ease. Kim was meticulous and made sure my wax was perfect she didn't miss a thing. Mai gave me one of the most detailed gel pedicures I've ever had; my feet looked brand new. And Michelle's massage completely melted away my stress. I especially loved that the 15-minute neck and shoulder massage was done during my pedicure, it felt like a double dose of relaxation. I can't say enough, I LOVE THIS PLACE... My initial appointment was about a month ago and it was AMAZING. Even hearing other customers come in and out, everyone is happy, smiling and likable. It is a SUPER great vibe in a nail salon. My second time was recently, and it was better than the first. I was greeted with smiles, hugs and it was SOOO personal. Kim and her staff are great! They are professional, personable, and all around, LOVELY! More so, they CARE! The shop is SPOTLESS and each girl goes above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable. Found this gem of a gem of a GEM on Yelp aaaaaand a part of me wants to keep in on the down low so that the whole world doesn't come in with their demands but that would be wholly unfair to the artistry going on there. Kim is my go to girl and she knows what is going on, internally (she is a badass!) and externally (we make in depth, funny in the way of being painful about the world) so it feels like being there with a friend. She is always looking for things to spice up your look or things to help you look polished and ready for the universe. Whatever empowers you, she is ready to help you achieve it!! First time i have come here but I'm giving this place five stars because it was exactly what I was looking for: a well-done gel mani and regular pedi at a very good price with no appointment and almost no waiting--in spite of the fact that I arrived smack in the middle of their busiest time of the week, the Saturday lunch rush. By 2:10 it had calmed down significantly, but at the height of the rush I could see that the owner was making sure she didn't lose a single customer! Visiting my mom for the holiday and decided to treat both my mom and myself to manicures. Based on earlier reviews, we stopped in to The Nail Shop and couldn't have been happier. The second we walked in, we were greeted with open arms. There was no wait at all; we both were immediately seated for gel manicures. The work on our nails was impeccable. The service was excellent. I called in to make a reservation in advance but you can also just shoot a text over. Nga/Nancy runs the place, and she is the absolute best. She is so incredibly sweet and good at what she does; she's efficient and detail-oriented. She'll give you her two cents and do her best to accommodate your tastes. I went for a simple gel paint to match my dress, and I LOVED how elegant it looked. Even the removal process was quite seamless. She made sure to put on a clear coat at the end to strengthen my nails while they recover from the chemicals. Cannot recommend this place enough! I don't get my nails done a lot because I'm undergoing chemotherapy and am very particular about who I choose to go to. I have a special event coming up and wanted a nice place to do my nails. After seeing all the five star reviews here, I came out of my way to get a manicure and called them to make sure they could accommodate me at 4pm, which they confirmed they could. It looked clean and the place wasn't too busy so it didn't smell of fumes, which is great for me, since fumes smells make me nauseous. When I came in for my scheduled 4pm appointment, I noticed that there were only two technicians working on two manicures and it took me a few minutes to check in with one of them. I saw another lady waiting and figured we were both going to be taken care of the two technicians after they were done with their manicures. I'm ok with waiting a bit (happens all the time with nail salons) and I usually give 15-20 minutes leeway and dug into a magazine. One lady left and the nail technician asked the lady next to me to come get her scheduled pedicure. No problem, she was first. Then the lady getting a manicure by the other technician was asked to go sit in her Pedicure chair. Wait, what? By this point, it was almost 4:30 and the only two technicians were about to start on two Pedicures, which from experience, take a long time. I'm cool with waiting a bit, but this was extreme. One of the technicians, who I presume was the owner, saw me look over and said something about the other technician coming to work on me after, which was pretty frustrating. I politely declined and asked why they couldn't have just told me they wouldn't be able to take a 4pm manicure, and she did not have a response. I found another salon near the Vons in the Village (Nail Lounge) and they were able to get me in right away and did a fantastic job. I wish this place could have been my new spot to go when I needed my nails done because it's smaller and doesn't have the intense smell of fumes other places have, but I refuse to wait over an hour just to get started, especially when I have made an appointment. I highly recommend you pick another place to do your nails if you are on a schedule.
