Naked Moose II is the best restaurant in Loraine, ND (population: 9). As the only restaurant, this is no surprise. But Naked Moose may also be the best restaurant in the northern third of the central portion of North Dakota*, and that is an impressive feat. We came on a Tuesday, when the restaurant has but a simple pub menu (jalapeño poppers, chicken drumsticks, cheese curds, gizzard (!), and the like). I tried all the above plus a French dip steak sandwich. Solid. But Jacqueline of Regina, Saskatchewan, the new owner as of this month, is the focus of this ode. An incredibly welcoming and talented hostess, she is reason alone to come back. And the six slices of rum cake and Bailey's cake she brought us didn't hurt. I even got a glass and a mug as parting gifts. We will return for the weekend prime rib night, despite the 60 mile drive. There is something oh so peaceful about dinner with a backdrop of grain silos, and the forthcoming patio will only add to that North Dakota charm. * For the sake of argument: Renville, Bottineau, Rolette, Towner, McHenry, and Pierce counties, as well as Ward county (excluding the northwestern portion that looks like a dinosaur's head) and the western 64% of Benson county. The food is amazing, they have a beautiful deck and the gazebo is very cool. They also have very good service for only 4 people running it.

We both got the Wagyu steak, which they cooked to perfection and the rum cake for dessert which we devoured.

Nothing ultra fancy about the decor. It was very clean. Cold almost as if they started the furnace at opening. Service: friendly and attentive waitress. After ordering food did seem to take awhile to come out but not excessive. Drinks: Had one mixed drink from the bar. You don't get cheated on the goods here. Food: I had a small onion rings for appetizer. Easily enough for two!! They were delicious. They pair very well with the house fry sauce. For my entree, I had a double bacon cheeseburger. I was amazed at the size of this burger. I want to say it had two full half pound patties! Fresh ground meat not frozen patties either. The cheese was perfectly melted. I love onion and was delighted this had a full ring on onion in the burger. The bacon was a good thick cut and not the stringy stuff. Best part is they were not stingy with the bacon. There was a layer of bacon between the patties as well as on the top patty. Cooked a perfect medium well. Delicious burger. Some of the few I was with had the queen prime rib. It was a massive 16-18 oz cut. Seasoned very well and extremely tender. If a hunting trip or anything else puts you in the area. Definitely give this place a shot.

Kind of a step up from Texas roadhouse, which is kind of honky-tonk - fine in its own way, but can be really loud. Longhorn is definitely not that, it was quiet and classy. It was a nice place to have dinner. I had the 9 ounce renegade sirloin steak with steamed broccoli and Caesar salad. Pretty basic, but the steak was cooked perfectly for me. I like medium well and it was exactly that just a hint of pink. The taste was really good and the steak was tender. The broccoli was nice and crunchy. The Caesar salad was OK. It wasn't great - a little heavy on the croutons versus salad, but it was OK. The warm loaf of wheat bread was really yummy with melted butter. I liked that a lot. The only downside was I wanted to try the French onion soup: I ordered it but I never received it. I was never charged for it either so it wasn't that big a deal. And I certainly could live without it, but I did want to try it because it is my favorite soup and I tend to try it everywhere I can get it. Granted, my server did make that mistake, but otherwise she was delightful. Really pleasant, professional, checked on me without being overbearing. Kept bringing me more club soda without having to ask for it. So she checked all my boxes. The next time in my travels when I would like a steak and not pay through the schnoz, will look for this chain.

It took about 3-4 minutes for the drinks to come out, and the food followed shortly thereafter. It may have been the fastest I've ever had food come out...especially for that many people. It wasn't a fluke, as the table next to us filled up after we got our food, and that group of 14 got their food about as quickly as we did. Service was very good and the food was also solid. I got a Chicken Philly, and others at our table got hamburgers, the (last) meatball special of the day, gizzards, walleye dinner, and a variety of other sandwiches. Fries, hashbrowns, and veggies were some of the sides we got, and they were all good (the hashbrowns looked amazing). Prices are very very reasonable, and it seems to be a very popular spot for many locals.

We headed to the restaurant and got seated immediately. My husband and I ordered drinks, which for me included a dirty martini with extra olives. The drink was tasty and the extra olives were very welcome. The appetizers were very tasty. Although it was the first time I had bruschetta and the bruschetta was not on the bread when we got it or finely chopped. I must say though it has very good flavor. The poutine fries were a delight and seasoned well! The dinners were a bit of a let down for all of us. My son ordered his burger medium rare and it came well done. My habanero honey chicken sandwich was underwhelming. The chicken was dry and the honey habanero sauce had no "wow" flavor. I would say the atmosphere of the restaurant itself was nice. We might come back for an appetizer and drink but, we will not be ordering dinner. For the price compared to quality, it just was not worth it, sad to say.

They came out quickly. The margarita slushy was on special & was basically like drinking a frozen pouch sold for $1.50 in every liquor store... not a great value or drink. The beer on tap was a Minnesota brew, no complaints there. The poutine was frozen curds over frozen fries with packaged gravy. It could be worse & could be certainly be better. I ordered a western burger, which came out well done on a chilled bun - with onion rings, which were decent tho I'd venture to say frozen. Hubs ordered a 3pc chicken with fries & the leg & thigh were good, but the breast was pretty dry. For $65, I dare say we could have done much better elsewhere. Of course, there aren't a lot of other options to choose from close by. The food is your basic bar, inexpensive frozen fare that's deep fried and over-priced, but will do in a pinch. I will note that they offered some dinners with some better side options - and - again, the service was really good. You can only expect so much tho from quick-fix products.
