Came here for my boyfriend's birthday. There was a review here that echoes my sentiment exactly. Surprised how highly rated this place is for a very below average experience. Right off the bat, you can't open the door the speakeasy yourself, you need to be escorted in which takes away a ton of the fun of going. There are pictures posted (by the venue) of aerialists and people having a fun time. However, we came at on a Saturday at 7pm and the place was deserted. There was no aerialist and there were no people having a fun time. There was a man sleeping on a couch by the bathroom. The servers were friendly, but that is not going to make up for the weird vibes this place is giving off. The music was SO loud so even though it was empty, we could barely hear each other. We tried the DIY empanadas but weren't given an explanation of what it was. Basically there are fully cooked empanada shells and a bowl of meat. I'm not sure how you were supposed to stuff the shells and have it stay an empanada but for $24 I feel like this was a rip off. I got the branzino. The presentation was nice, the fish was in a circle, but that also made it extremely difficult to eat. Because the rice was in the middle of the fish, the bones of the fish kept going into the rice. Additionally, the fish was a bit bland and lacking in flavor. We also got the sliders, which were interesting with the pineapple. Overall, would definitely not recommend coming here. It is overpriced for an empty experience.

We found this place by accident trying ti find a rooftop bar. So Glad we found this underground speakeasy instead. female DJ was amazing! And the vibe was chic and sexy. Drinks were great! Will definitely be back

Celebrate ! Came here to celebrate my birthday. The process was a bit tedious to get a reservation for 8 or more . They should create a better process. Upon arrival I noticed the table we were assigned was in the far back corner of the restaurant. My guests and I couldn't see the stage or the aerial dancer. That was a big part of why I attended that night and was not pleased. When asked if I could find a better seating area, was told no there was no other table to accommodate. However, there was space to switch seating up. There is no reason why everyone shouldn't be able to see the performances. If that is the case, they should limit the people there or position things differently for all. The waiter was great and made up for the lack of good seating. Attentive and gave us an extra bottle of champagne because several dishes came late. The food was good. Tried the empanadas, all flavors and they were fine. Came deconstructed. The half chicken was great as well. Moist and the peanut butter sauce surprised me. The taquitos were really tacos and needed flavor. The slider were good as well. The drinks were the star. Nicely presented and tasty. Aside from seating. They celebrated my birthday nicely. I'd go back to actually be able to see the show.

The Newsroom is a very unique dining experience. I imagined that the entrance was from the street but you have to go into the building lobby to see the vending machine entrance area below. A hostess greeted us in the lobby and another hostess downstairs escorted us into the restaurant and seated us. I went on a Thursday night for jazz. It was really decent jazz, although the drummer just had a snare drum and not a whole drum kit for whatever reason. We had the cheese board and meat board and a bottle of wine. It was beautifully presented. The server was very gracious and attentive and it was a lovely evening. Chocolate cake was really delicious too. There's a time limit for your visit but we didn't get rushed out at the end. It might depend on how many other reservations they have that particular night. Highly recommended! I'd love to go back on a weekend for the aerial show.

Went for a Saturday date night and loved the experience. There was a aerialist and talent singer performing and the service from Alberto was stellar. Started with the Latin dips and then had a delicious salad and shared the filet mignon tips. Our drinks were wonderful as well. It was such a fun night out in LIC.

Food: Ordered the Paella + Hangar steak with Truffle fries. Fries were fried and seasoned to perfection. Paella was very tasty. Loaded with shrimp and small bits of seafood. Cocktails were delicious. Service: Good service. People come often to wipe up your table. You only get 1:30 hour to eat. So kinda seemed like they were rushing you out in time. Ambiance: Cool, dimly lit jazz bar on Thursday nights, My ONLY note is to change your tap water cause it tasted a little funky...

I have been meaning to try this speakeasy in LIC. Behind the vending machine is a very vibey cocktail lounge with tasty bites. There's always live music and sometimes aerial performances

Very cool speakeasy style restaurant/burlesque (every Thursday around 8:30PM) that you enter through the former "Z Hotel" in a secluded portion of LIC. Was a bit apprehensive of the food quality given the restaurant's focus on "Instagram vibes" but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and level of service. Similar to other reviews, we stuck to the 'safe' classics such as the empanadas and grilled octopus with bone marrow and went for a lighter side of salad to pair the richness of the marrow. We also got the paella (not pictured) which was fine, but nothing special. The empanadas come with both chicken and short rib sides that you use to complete your empanadas (4 per order). I think they could have expanded to 6 given the amount of meat they included and thought the presentation was a bit gimmicky. Service was friendly and attentive although the automatic 20% gratuity left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. This makes sense during their burlesque shows or other performances but for a regular dinner seemed a bit on the nose. Overall, if you're in LIC and looking for a unique date or dining experience I'd recommend.

Overall: HIGHLY recommend this place for any celebration or just a date. Great entertainment, food, and music. Food: the plates are small to medium size and are tapas style so they are meant to be shared. We ordered 3 rounds of empanadas (vegan, beef, chicken), paella, grilled octopus, duck, truffle fries, and the dessert flight. We also go a variety of drinks. The food was so fun. It was all kind of deconstructed. The duck was by far my favorite. It was so delicate and flavorful and paired so well with the rice (risotto?). The second fave was the octopus- it was tiny pieces on bone marrow. And you got handmade tortillas to use for tacos. The dessert flight included tres leches, flan, and molten lava chocolate cake - all phenomenal. Service: our waiters were amazing. Serving us, checking in, cleaning our table in between. Super professional and fun. It was my friend's birthday and the DJ came over to ask her name and music recs and then he sang happy birthday to her (and the other bday folks). Venue: chic and classic. It's dark and intimate with fun lights (but not crazy overwhelming lights). They had an acrobat dancing around a circle dangling from the ceiling to slow remixes of pop hits. Top notch place. Cannot be beat!

Santiago provided exceptional service throughout the night, ensuring a memorable dining experience. The entertainment was top-notch, enhancing the ambiance with great performances. The food was delivered promptly, hot, and delicious, presented beautifully. I highly recommend visiting also the clean bathrooms added to the overall posit experience. I have been ranting and raving about this place since Wednesday. We came here for Valentine's Day & I was so impressed by their pre-fix menu. $89 a pop with a complimentary bottle of red or white wine but the food was wonderful! We had the mango shrimp guacamole & surf n turf taquitos as apps. My bf had the chicken for his entree and I had the duck over pork fried rice. Just blown away by how good it all was and the portions were perfect. Plating was beautiful. The dessert was also yummy and a great way to end the hearty meal. Small portions are the way to go for a decadent chocolate cake and the heart-shaped passion fruit tres leches cake was refreshing. The music in the restaurant was just the right volume and a collection of familiar songs remixed in a chill rendition. Absolutely loved it - as well as the hot girl in lingerie twirling about from the ceiling. The decor and art was also an awesome vibe. They even took complimentary pictures in the lounge area in front of the cool Coca Cola entrance. Overall, I would come back here in a heartbeat! So excited to try other things on the menu as well as their cocktails. I was beyond satisfied with the service, vibe, music and food. :)

The biggest question then became, where to go? We needed a place that was relatively easy to get to that would hold close to 100 people. Jungly was a contender for several reasons - it's location, size, vibe, and menu all seemed to check off. It also helped that I had done business with the owner previously at one of his other spots. It seemed like the natural choice, so I went ahead with the booking. Jungly is located in LIC - it's a pretty convenient spot as its close to the LIRR and the subway. Parking can be a challenge, but luckily I found a spot only a block away. The space itself is nicely set up - walking in you're immediately greeted by the bar area with dining areas both to the left and the right. Due to our size, they closed the place to the public and we were able to freely roam the bar area and one of the dining rooms. In addition to standard tables, they have some lounge space and high tops by the bar. The vibe is somewhat modern - a black/grey color scheme paired with neon and golds. It looks like the space could easily be converted to a club-like atmosphere. Since we were here for a private event, the food was set up buffet style - we chose three apps, four mains, and two sides. Ultimately, for apps we chose pita bread with dips, steak tacos, and shrimp tacos. For mains we chose fried chicken sliders, smashed beef sliders, cacio e pepe, and roasted chicken. For sides, we got fries and Brussels sprouts. In general, all of the food was tasty; the strongest dishes were the tacos, fries, and the chicken tacos. The tacos were generously filled, the fries were the crispy skin style, and the chicken sliders were nice and crispy. The weakest for me was the cacio e pepe - not much flavor and just not really a standout IMO. My communication with management to set up the event were a little staccato, though in the end everything worked out. For the most part, my communication with them was consistent in the days leading up to the event. Service the night of the event was overall good - they were very accessible but I found that they could have replenished the food a little faster in response to the rate it was being taken from the buffet. The bar, on the other hand, was great - both in service and variety of liquor available. Overall, we had a great event at Jungly. They were professional, fair, and delivered on the goods. I would definitely consider hosting another event there, or dine here on my own.

The bartender, the one person who should be welcoming and engaging, came across as rude and lacked any charisma. On a Friday night, good energy behind the bar makes a huge difference, and that was completely missing. I ordered a margarita, which is one of the simplest and most common cocktails to make. I asked for it really sweet with plenty of salt on the rim. Instead, it came out barely sweet and with almost no salt. For a $17 margarita, I expected much better. I've had to return the drink because I've had better margaritas for $12 at other places. While waiting for my friend, I had to wait with a glass of water because I didn't trust the way they made the drink. The bartender told me I either needed to order another drink or move, which felt unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming. To be fair, the food was good and the space itself is nice.
