What a great discovery I stumbled upon. I had heard of this thrift store and how all proceeds go to help people living with HIV via Project Transition. So I wanted to come show my support and check the store out. The staff is so welcoming and helpful. Everything is super organized and the selections are unique. A nice blend of clothing and shoes (both men and women's), glassware, jewelry, electronics and a bunch of other items. I had so much fun browsing. I found an Anne Taylor top for example that was $12. Score. The prices are reasonable and the selection is varied. It's a very welcoming place and I can't wait to bring friends and shop again. The parking lot is small but I was able to find a spot today. There are other shops in the same shared building and Top Drawer is on the left. Come explore the store. read more

Within this 2000 square-foot space is a collection of extraordinary rare finds. One thing that got my attention was all the vintage radio and TV equipment. They have thousands of vintage photographs, old roadmaps, lots of glassware and a fine assortment of clothes. You will also find records, posters, books, and shoes. If you're interested in seeing great quality items that you won't find at your average thrift store, this place should be on your list. Top Drawer is my all time most favorite thrift store and I'm addicted to thrifting. The staff is amazing, friendly, helpful (not to mention. enabling). Their selection is always wonderful, high quality, and reasonably priced. A lot of my favorite things to wear and decorate my home with have come from Top Drawer. What's more, they host a fun happy hour once a month and occasional fund raisers (like the Mrs Roper party). Love, love, love this store, its staff and volunteers. We popped in here about ten minutes before they closed on a Friday, so we put a couple things on hold and said we'd be back the following day (Saturday). When we returned on Saturday, we were very excited and pleased to see they were having a parking lot pop up with a bunch of small businesses! Give yourself plenty of time to go around and look at all the unique treasures this store has to offer. They also are a nonprofit doing great work for the community!! A thrift/vintage shop that has a purpose. I AM SOLD. I can always shop if it means giving back to the community. Top Drawer is a special place where 100% of the proceeds benefit Project Transition, a non-profit providing assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS in Austin. This shop is so organized and I love how proud and queer this shop is. The display of queer and trans flags was so empowering. To think if I would've seen a shop like this as a child, I would've felt so included as I was discovering myself and my sexual orientation. I found a few pieces that caught my eye, but I found a true gem of a hand sewn vintage sequin top that I'll be saving for Mardi Gras next year. The staff here is so welcoming and I enjoyed learning more about their story. Top Drawer is a safe place and open to all. I can't recommend enough visiting this shop and shopping with a purpose. I am an avid traveler and when it comes to traveling I love to visit every single thrift store that is in the area. This is by far the coolest thrift store that i have ever stepped foot in. The staff is AMAZING, so friendly and so nice to answer any questions or help. I got a cute pair of earrings and probably would've stayed wayyyyy longer if more people didn't come in!!! Very fun and quirky place! Lots of cute, interesting knick knacks. Not a huge selection of clothes, and they were oddly pricy, so I wouldn't pick this place if that's what you're shooting for. I would like to think of this place as my new favorite gem. The atmosphere and everything it had to offer was amazing. I found so many new cute things and a nifty tote bag. They had a bowl filled with pride stickers that you could take and it said something on the bowl along the lines of "Take one for yourself, and one for someone else". I have fallen IN love with Top Drawer! The staff is friendly, the place is clean, the stuff is rad, and the best part is that it's 100% non profit!! They have so much cool vintage (I'm looking at you 1960's turntable!) and newer products that are all clean and there's no old funky thrift store smell. The even have a fun art room! I saw staff cleaning and dusting the products. It's obvious that clean, and fun is their m.o. and it shows! I can't wait to go back again and again! Top Drawer is now one of my favorite thrift stores in Austin! First off, the proceeds are for charity and that's a big seller for me. It means I'm basically making a donation to the community and get something in return. I believe that's how thrift stores should be. One of the biggest draws to Top Drawer is that it's well maintained and clean. It feels more like you are in a boutique store at times. The dressing room is beautiful! You'll just have to see for yourself. The selection was a good mixture of goods and clothing. I had a great time looking around and checking everything out. I'll definitely be back! read more

Found this funky little shop cruisin' down Burnet from Mount Bonnell. My babygirl & I love digging and usually I'll find something that will prompt a long drawn out memory to which she usually just gives me back canned responses such as 'Uh huh', 'Oh really?', 'That's cool.' The joys of bein' a mama, what can I say? The folks who work here are approachable and the prices are okay. The place has a lot to offer considering the somewhat small size of this business (clothes, artwork, trinkets, conversation pieces and the like) Just one word of caution if you park in the front: it can get a little tricky when trying to leave (due to oncoming traffic and the view) so be careful when doing so. :) read more

Great thrift store to find some hidden gems. We did on a road trip out to Austin.

In the last year, I've started finding less here than I used to but they still get a great score for the t-shirt barrels. They have three HUGE barrels (maybe 4 feet tall) filled to the brim with t-shirts. And they're all buy one for $1, get one free! I almost don't want to share because we've found such great shirts and I don't want them to get picked over :) Just last Friday my brother and I found t-shirts for NSync, Rogue beer, UT, the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and a ton of others that I can't quite remember right now. I think he, his girlfriend, and I left there with a total of 30 t-shirts. read more

Top Drawer is on my Top 3 List of best vintage/thrift shops in Austin(Room Service and Blue Velvet are the other 2). If there is one thing I love most about this place is the pricing! You can find everything from old to newish items for about a fifth of the price compared to what you would pay at any other vintage thrift shop. What's even better is that at the end of the month they run crazy specials on their color tagged items. The staff here is always helpful and the layout of the store is really nice. One side is clothing, the other is home interior and various home items(even furniture)and they have an art gallery section that's always changing. Since their prices are so low their inventory is always changing so I highly recommend you dropping by often to see what's new. I love this shop. I never walk about empty handed! read more

A fantastic place staffed by fantastic people. I've seen a few reviews where people were moaning about the prices, but I have found some very nice things priced more than reasonable....so just look around and find a hidden gem. For example, I saw a stained glass lamp for $38 (where can you find THAT price today), some blank mounted art canvas 16' X 20' for $3.50 each, good brand name clothes $3 - $5, and several other good buys. Remember the profits go to a good cause as well. There's also a fantastic HEAVY antique cabinet, 6' tall, with nice wrought iron hinges on the doors.....free....provided you figure out how to load the monster. Is that priced reasonable enough? Make it a point to go here at least once. You won't be disappointed. read more

Every little thing I find in this treasure of a store, ends up being something very special. I found a triangular cantaloupe colored prism pillow, that fit perfectly in my car. My son borrowed it. My son lost it. I'm shattered. This is an example of the one-of-a-kind items you'll find at top drawer. Guard them with your life. Example, my girlfriend was telling me a story about her ancestors from Poland. I went to top drawer, and discovered an incredible handmade plate from Poland. Now it is a treasure for her. When I have bags of junk to donate, those go to other thrift stores. When I have something that is incredibly unique to donate, I bring it to top drawer. This is a store where you are treated with kindness, respect, and every time I go there, there are the incredible volunteers, either polishing silver or folding clothes. I always include top drawer in my excursions when I want to do fun outings with people around this area. read more

While the staff is great and I love the cause, the second I walk in I am reminded of all the amazing things they have I am not allowed to buy. It really bummed me out as a vintage collector. They have amazing blow molds, planters used for their business cards that a true collector would die for. SO much Kitschy goodness it's crazy! But..... all kept for themselves. This is my favorite thrift store in town, and that is saying a lot for a garage sale/thrift junkie like me. First of all, they have a really cool streetlight outside their store that is made to look like a vintage lamp. It makes me happy every time I see it, which is virtually every day since it is right near my house. But it's not just the outside of the store that is great. The last time I was there, I scored a Max Studio top and an Ann Taylor blazer and spent a grand total of $7.50. Plus, I felt good that my $7.50 was going to a good cause. As if that weren't enough, they were throwing a party that evening, and they had free food AND free beer AND free live music! If that's not stellar thrift shopping, I don't know what is. They don't throw parties every day, of course. But every single time I go, I come away with some little treasure (or two, or three, or four). This place is fab-u-lous. So if you're in need of a little retail therapy and are tight on cash, come to Top Drawer. You'll be glad you did. read more

This place Rocks. Why? They always have deals and discounts. Every day I go its some new thing discounted. I'm not sure I have ever bought anything full price. Finally a thrift store at a thrift price! Unlike those semi schmancy stores down on ...umm..South Congress....this place understands that second hand should be sold at a second hand price. From glam belts for a buck fifty , to the best little jean skirt I've found anywhere in Austin, Top Drawer has some of the coolest treasures in Austin. As an added perk, Top Drawer uses all of its profits to support Project Transitions, an organization helping those diagnosed and living with HIV/AIDS. They also have been known to hold some snazzy fashion shows to create more awareness and raise more money to help the cause. Sorry to kill everyone's buzz here, but Top Drawer wasn't the experience I was expecting after all these 5 star reviews. The best thing about the place? The music..... I walked in expecting a wonderful consignment experience, I left wondering why I drove all the way to Burnet Road to go to Salvation Army. This is not consignment.... this is a thrift store. Am I missing something? This place had really nasty, old, and trashy items with no personality for sale. I was expecting to find some treasures, but what I found was a garage sale on the bad side of town in a store. I REALLY tried to find something..... but in the end, there wasn't even anything I picked up. Maybe next time? I don't know...... To me a great thrift/consignment store is someone who filters out what they do and don't sell. Top Drawer seemed to be selling anything they got..... This may be your thing, and that's awesome, but I won't be visiting this store again. Unless you are a bigger thrift store fan than me (I thought I was a big fan)I think you can skip this place....... I can't give it lower than three stars beause its a non-profit that funds AIDS/HIV work.... and thats awesome, but I think I'd rather just give them the money. read more

This place has some really interesting stuff! The clothes section isn't huge, but they have just about everything you need for your house. They even had a halloween section, complete with costumes, in the back. Pay attention to the tags also. There is a color coding list on the wall. I got a skirt for $2! Easy to find on Burnet Road with its giant signature sign, Top Drawer is a must in this section of North Austin that is quickly becoming an antiques/thrift/consignment oasis. Owned and operated by Project Transitions (an HIV/AIDS support NPO), this medium-sized economy store has been consistently voted best thrift store in Austin. With a vast array of merchandise, there's bound to be something you could use inside these doors. Which is what's incredibly dangerous about the place. On a recent visit, I picked up a gently-used leather computer bag for $6. I would've been happy with this deal-of-the-day, but in addition to my score, all proceeds go back into Project Transitions. PLUS, the longer an items sits on their shelves, the cheaper it gets. How cool is that?! 25% off after a month, 50% off after two, and 75% off the original price after three months. There are so many great thrift stores on Burnet road. For those who find another's junk and unwanted items as treasures, this is the place for you to waste some time. Is everything here always great? Nope. I'd say its pretty hit or miss. Many things are $1. Can't really argue with that. Cute vases and vintage wine glasses for $1, holy crap. But I stopped myself because I don't need anymore random glassware. Cheap cheap random book selection, with new publications for a fraction of the price. Nat geo mags galore, hooray! Purses, knicknacks, cds, records, old appliances, VHS TAPES haha that cracks me up. Small selection of clothes to check out, but I normally don't fit into just anything that says "small." But the clothes they have are really cheap. Most expensive thing I saw was $5. So good deal for someone who's trying to bring back old trends, which is definitely a lot of their selection. Definitely worth checking out. And if you don't find anything the first time, try again earlier in the day when things aren't so picked over. read more

One of the chief bummers about moving away from the Burnet Rd. area is my lack of proximity to this, the finest thrift store in Austin. Reasonably priced (check it out, Savers), friendly staff, and loads of cool/useful merch attracted me many a day whether I needed a garlic press and steak knives or a new (to me) shirt for work, or just wanted to browse the racks. I actually already dug the place without knowing the good cause the proceeds help, but that is certainly a bonus. Top Drawer also has a certain funky charm to its ambiance, as opposed to the more antiseptic feel of most Goodwills. My only (minor, for sure) beef is that the place is a bit on the smallish side. Were I to have my way, we'd have much more of this good thing. read more

Every time I look though the racks of this place I end up leaving with twice to three times as much as what I came in for. Why? Because if you saw one more hot shirt for $6, it'd be pretty hard to pass up, wouldn't it? Top Drawer is great for shop binging. I can leave with a huge armful of clothes, a big smile on my face, support a local Austin business, and pay less than $30. That might be enough for plenty of Austinites, but it gets even more incredible. All of their merchandise is donated by people in Austin, and all of their proceeds go towards programs "providing hospice, housing and support to people living with HIV/AIDS."
