Waited 1 hour to get food, waitress was totally clueless- didn't check on us or give us food updates. Acted like everything was fine- had the Rasta pasta and could only eat one bite. It tasted like someone made it at home and had no flavor, very fatty and such a let down after waiting that long. Went over the weekend and definitely will come back. I had the chocolate chip single jumbo pancake and a side of eggs and my husband had the eggs benedict. We both equally enjoyed our food and our waitress was really nice. I'm definitely excited to go back and try more of their stuff. There was a lot of options that looked really good. I know some people have mentioned the lack of salt in items, and I agree that my eggs definitely needed some salt, but I didn't mind honestly. The nook is a very nice Oakley owned restaurant that has been in existence for many many years. There a slight twist and take on classic dishes set them apart. However, during rush hours on the weekend, the food tends to either be under or over, prepared and not quite as tasty . Very solid breakfast food!! I was visiting downtown Charlottesville for the first time and decided to try out The Nook. My party of 2 got seated right away during a busy hour! The beef brisket eggs benefit was delicious!! They not only gave me a generous amount of tender, juicy brisket, but also had nicely cooked runny eggs. Great diner with super friendly service. They have a good sized menu with breakfast and lunch items. They also have a full bar. The BLT sandwich was excellent. They are always a good choice for coffee and breakfast. You have to try their French toast!! The staff was attentive and checked on us frequently. The prices are reasonable, and I would definitely eat here again. The only downside is that they are only open from 8am-3pm every day and not open for longer hours. read more

A cute and fast stop for breakfast right in the heart of the downtown mall. We arrived right as they opened and the staff could not be happier to see us (I always get nervous going somewhere right when they open) We started with the cinnamon roll, and wow it was good, cooked perfectly and you could taste every calorie in such a great way. It was amazing. I ordered the veggie breakfast wrap and it was also great. It was light and not greasy, a perfect way to start the day (after starting with a cinnamon roll the size of your face). The name drew me in...for who doesn't love a little nook to enjoy brunch! The Charlottesville mall was quite like a ghost town... I half expected to see tumbleweeds rolling down the promenade. Just a handful of locals, shoppers and homeless people shadowed the thresholds of the businesses along the brick walkway. Many shops succumbed to the economic blows of Covid. However, we found The Nook open for business. We were egg-cited to say the least. Protocols in place, we chose a booth in the back. There was only one other table occupied. There was also some seating outside but it was too hot for us... the A/C was a welcome relief. Our server was gracious and attentive. While my bff ordered a Cobb salad, I went for the more traditional brunch, The All the Way breakfast. It came with protein of your choice, I had the bacon, eggs, fried potatoes and choice of bread, I chose a biscuit. I've been ordering the same way forever... "eggs medium to medium-well, not too hard or not too runny with crispy bacon". I was egg-static when they came out absolutely perfect, just like I make them at home! I sent my compliments to the cook! The potatoes were another story, many of the pieces were burnt to a crisp and I only tasted a few of the tender bits. The biscuit was sadly hard as a hockey puck. When I expressed both the highs and lows of my meal, our server promptly offered to substitute the potatoes and I chose the grits. Good call, they were creamy and had a nice, buttery flavor and good consistency! Like I always say, the squeaky wheel gets the oil, or in this case, the best buttery grits around! We were offered take out refills of refreshing tea, delish! The restroom was clean, as was the whole restaurant. The prices were egg-cellent and I appreciated the way our food issues were resolved. Because this place had few patrons, I was compelled to leave an extra percentage tip for the server. They get brownie points for staying open through this pandemic! Nice setting, waitress was pleasant. That's about all I can say. 35min to get our order - I suspect our ticket got misplaced as the waitress came out twice to say it would be up soon. The kid's grilled cheese wasn't melted, the chicken on the chicken and waffle was both over-cooked and cold (which was odd as my son got the chicken strips and his were fine) and the waffle was completely cold and had almost no hot honey drizzle. And the wife's sandwich came out 7min after everybody else's food. Kid 3 enjoyed his burger. Only follow-up was the getting the check. Honestly, Fantastic! I was surprised when I realized that I had never given The Nook a try before. For a popular location on the Downtown Mall that specializes in breakfast, it sounds like a match made in heaven for my particular tastebuds. From the outside, it absolutely looks like the diner it was when it opened in the 1950s. Upon closer inspection, this old fossil turned out to be a real gem. The service is really what keeps coming to mind. The servers were personable, efficient, and attentive. They didn't just serve us food; they sold us a great experience. The food itself was wonderful. My coworker's chorizo bowl was pleasing to just look at! Every dish's presentation was a work of art. I don't think I realized how much beautifully presented breakfast food brighten's your day. My coworker said that his bowl was fantastic. As for me? I ordered my favorite dish: Egg's Benedict. In one word, the dish was SUBLIME. If you want to try Egg's Benedict for the first time, this is one of the best places to try it. My other coworker ordered an omelet (I don't remember what kind). Not only was it a massive omelet, but it was also a massive hit! So, yeah! If you're downtown for breakfast, I really can't think of a better place for you to go to than The Nook. This place should have 5 stars. We've been customers of The Nook since early 2010s and I gotta say, this place has seen a huge upgrade since we started revisiting back in the summer. Let's just get this out of the way and let you all know that The Nook has the DEFINITIVE best breakfast in Charlottesville. They've been doing big pancakes and good breakfast platters for years, but something's changed recently and some of their dishes are way more upscale than the pricetag would indicate. Our most recent visit, we had the Avocado Bacon Benedict and Shrimp and Grits. Their Hollandaise sauce tastes fresh, and they really know how to nail the Shrimp and Andouille sausage combination in Shrimp and Grits. They also have this really great Pear Bourbon drink that was better than any of the $12+ cocktails these more upscale restaurants in town will charge you. Drink was under 10 bucks. We also had their apple mimosa with a cinamon sugar rim. Incredible. Check this place out. read more

I came here a few weeks back on a weekend because it had good Yelp reviews and stars. I came to check it out and OMG it's heaven. I started off with a butterfinger milk shake which I was craving. The menu had so many good options but the crab cake eggs Benny is what caught my eye. The manager or owner wasn't sure who he was told me the crab cake recipe was from a restaurant he used to work at up in Baltimore. THANK YOU for stealing that recipient bc that sir was an amazing crab cake. It was fresh, you can taste the crab. Established in 1951 with a rich history, you are instantly greeted and seated either outdoors or indoors with a choice of booth, table or old fashioned breakfast counter. The place has black and white photos on the walls from a time past with oldies music playing but it's clean and such great food and service! You'd think a spot like this would not be as clean but it is special where you feel like you've gone back in time.
