Let me start with the positives: the staff are super nice. They are fast, cool, very friendly and yet professional. The place itself is very hipster. Adorable little breakfast/brunch spot with a great menu and reasonable prices! I ordered the green thing pancakes (pancakes with banana and a pistachio sauce which definitely had a white chocolate base) and they were tasty, filling and it too sweet. I want to give The Nook a high rating but I was underwhelmed. If I could give it a 3.5 out of 4 I would. From the time we put our name down to actually getting our food was an hour. I had expected to wait a while to get seated but we only waited about 20 minutes. You give them your name and number and they keep this on a notepad. Someone will call you so be sure to answer a random number. Our server was nice. It did take a while to get our coffee and our water. The drip coffee was awful. I didn't expect it to be on the same level or worse as diner coffee but it was. My partners London fog was tasty thankfully. I ordered the Chick N Waffles and was disappointed. The chicken breast was dry and the breading kept falling off. I expected the chicken to be fried and instead it was lightly breaded and kind of gross. The waffle was the saving grace as it was flavorful and cooked properly. I got French fries with my dish and they were really good. Fried perfectly and salty. The other side options were home fries or salad. My partner got home fries with his meal and they were really good. The music they played was popping! It was most likely a 2009 throwbacks playlist featuring all the pop greats. It was loud, but I enjoyed it. The space is decorated in a really fun fashion and is a cozy spot for sure. I have high expectations for breakfast. When I heard this was owned by the same folks as Gepetto's I got excited as that's one of my favorite spots. This didn't satisfy the same breakfast craving as other places in the neighborhood. My husband and I stopped here for brunch one Saturday since we live fairly close. There was a 40 minute wait which was very understandable considering the name "the nook" it is a small location! We walked around for a while and ventured to Brooklyn Bagels for a coffee while we were waiting. This is a very small intimate setting, tables are close so if that is not your vibe this is not the place for you! We have young children so we're used to not having a ton of room! We took a walk around Lawrenceville while we waited and our table was ready when we got back! The Nook has the menu of a diner with the interior charm of weekly brunch with friends. The menu is so extensive that the place itself is conducive to photo-taking and the works. My BS (Brunch Struggle) is always deciding whether I want to get something sweet or savory, so I generally always go for something that gives me both my scrambled eggs AND my pancakes or waffles. I ended up getting the Eggsuberant which offered exactly that. The eggs, bacon, and potatoes were great-- I'm an actual hoe for homefries. The star was the pancakes. I'm usually a waffles girl because pancakes are generally a little too filling for me, but these pancakes were super fluffy, airy, and bouncy which made them super easy to finish! You can see how thick they are in the photo. I also got a lavender fog tea latte which I'd also highly recommend if you like earl grey with a twist! The lavender went so well with the tea-- it wasn't too strong or anything-- and was just the right amount of sweetness. Solid breakfast the other day here at The Nook. We had a bit of trouble as we seriously pined for Coca Cafe - which occupied this lovely space originally. But this is a respectable replacement. Kept the kitschy, eclectic interior only a little less vintage fun. Service was fast & efficient. My husband had a fantastic waffle - perfect outer crunch/inner moist/vanilla tastiness - topped with fresh strawberries & Nutella. The decadent fresh whipped cream was a bit too much for me - but my husband LOVED it. My dish was pretty boring in comparison: the breakfast sandwich. The overall flavor was good - tho the 2 tiny pieces of bacon looked so sad on top of the scrambled egg & havarti! The ciabatta they used for the sandwich was quite fresh - but too much bread for me. I removed the bottom piece. The home fries were quite good - perfectly spiced. They were more like totts that home fries, IMO - as I normally think of the latter as having onions &/or peppers. ‍ No special beverages. All in all - a good breakfast. We'll be back.
