The Nook is a cute little breakfast spot right in the heart of Lawrenceville. They are best known for their variations on a classic eggs benedict - my favorites are the florentine & the mexican. On nice days, the outdoor back patio is the best place to sit (the inside can feel a little crowded). The Nook also has a good drink menu, featuring creative mimosas & a full coffee counter. The only downside is that there is often a long wait if you arrive later in the morning (even at 10:00 there was a 30 minute wait for a table!), so either get there early or prepare for a wait. Visited Pittsburgh from California and this place kept popping up in my searches for breakfast/brunch locations. Dropped in by myself on a Tuesday afternoon around 1pm. No trouble finding street parking and was sat at a table immediately in the back half of the restaurant. Felt very cozy and homey with the decor. Most tables sat 2-4 people, but could easily be put together for larger groups. I think there was a party of 8 and 5 while I was there. The lavender tea fog latte was wonderfully surprising, as this is something you don't typically see on a breakfast/diner/cafe menu. As an indecisive person who is always torn between sweet and savory breakfast items, I loved that they had a Waffle Eggs Benedict. Personally, I would have preferred it without the cheese, but it didn't really take up too much of the show. The waffle did end up being pretty soggy under the heat and steam of the Benedict toppings (as expected), but the flavors were on point. If there was a way to keep it crispy, maybe extra time in a toaster or flash fry might do the trick. Overall, a wonderful experience and yummy food! We stopped here for a Sunday brunch. There was a long wait, but we decided to stay. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating was in the shade, but we opted for indoor because it was very hot. Our waiter was awesome. What a delightful spot for brunch! Not only were the service and food excellent, we were treated to a couple getting engaged while we were there for lunch on a Sunday. We had to wait 45 minutes for a table, but it was worth it. The falafel salad (sans feta) was really good--I would order that again in a heartbeat. My friends and I enjoyed our visit to The Nook! We had about a 25-30 minute wait, but there was also 5 of us so we had to wait for the bigger tables to open. There were so many different food options and it was hard to pick if I wanted sweet or savory for our brunch. I ended going with sweet - raspberry French toast! The bread was covered in corn flakes, which was delicious, but the main star was the raspberry cream cheese! It was listed on the menu as a The Nook Favorite, but our waiter also said it was his favorite too, so it seemed like a popular one. I wasn't prepared for how tight it was on the inside, tables are very close together and we were impressed how the staff moved through the space, especially when holding so many plates! This is a nice brunch spot. They have decent food and service is good. I've had their burger which is a pretty decent burger. I loved the pickle fries! The building is pretty quaint. It has decent decorations and seems like a nice small, older building in Lawrenceville. The decorations are cool. They were a bit slow on replacing a messed up order. I cannot eat dairy and my burger came with cheese. It took a bit longer than I hoped for a replacement. My wife was waiting for me to eat (I told her not too!) but by the time mine came, hers was cold. But they did give me a free cocktail as an apology. Both our girls went to the University of Pittsburgh, so we've been coming to the city for seven (plus) years now...and we FINALLY found our favorite breakfast / brunch spot!!! On a recent weekend, a group of six of us met up at this cute little space, where we were immediately seated in a corner booth for just for us! The staff here is incredibly gregarious and friendly, clearly enjoying each other and the work they were doing. Everybody ordered their favorite coffee, tea and cocktail choices and we got heads down into the menu. Soooo many choices, so little time. I think all of us ordered unique dishes, so we had lots to sample from. Favorites included the eggs benedicts (the Florentine and Mexican versions were the best, IMO), challah French toast and Nutella pancakes. Also, cannot forget to shout out those breakfast potatoes...so crispy outside and pillowy inside with a great seasoning and crunch to them. No one left the table hungry...only thig better would have been a pillow and blankey to lay down and nap from the food come we were all in. This is a really good little breakfast/brunch spot. It's in a convenient part of Lawrenceville where I have often found parking nearby, which is no small feat. The inside is larger than you would think, with a second room of seating behind the first room where you enter, but also not quite as large as they need during peak times -- for example, today, I saw a larger party come in and turn around to leave when there wasn't enough room to immediately accommodate them. Service is super friendly and food comes up quick for how crowded it can get here. It is adorably and eclectically decorated with little paper hot air balloons, butterflies and vinyl records along the front of the barista bar. Very Instagrammable, including the interactive hot air balloon mural on the side of the building. As for the food, there are so many delicious options here. They are known for their many varieties of eggs Benedict. I like to get the Eggs-uberance, which comes with two eggs any way, breakfast potatoes, your choice of breakfast meat and two deliciously fluffy pancakes. The pancakes come with a little dollops of fresh whipped cream that make them like dessert, and this dish overall perfectly satisfies any issue you might have with choosing between sweet and savory options. You're also going to take at least half of it home because it's an incredible amount of food, no matter how hungry you think you are. I really appreciate that they have veggie chorizo on the menu as a vegetarian/vegan protein option. They have a nice selection of cocktails, coffees and, on a wintery day like today in particular, I can't pass up the decadent hot chocolate with Nutella. Lots of sweet options on the menu, too, like fancy pancakes and waffles, though I am more of a savory breakfast person. There is something for everyone in your party here and the cost is reasonable, with a typical breakfast running between $12 and $15. read more

It's pretty popular so there's usually a long wait on popular brunch days so just be prepared for that. But there are tons of shops and streets to walk around while you wait! The coffee was nothing crazy, but was perfect to warm up from the snowy cold. I ordered the breakkie waffle and after the first bite I was sure I didn't regret my decision. The waffle had the perfect crisp on the outside and the ham and cheese combo sandwiched in the middle went well with the two over easy eggs on top. I opted for the side salad over the home fries and the vinaigrette and tomatoes were fresh and bright in flavor. I saw several plates go by with pancakes and french toast topped with fruit and nutella and made a mental note to try that next time. They have one unisex bathroom located right in the dining area. After a speedy 24 hours in Pittsburgh, I stopped at The Nook for breakfast before my flight. It was a quick walk from my hotel in a cute, hip neighborhood. The inside is tiny but homey and had plenty of people grabbing breakfast on Sunday morning. I got a table right away and the service was fast. I ordered the breakfast platter with turkey sausage, scrambled eggs, home fries, and gluten free toast. I also got the lavender latte and a mimosa. The gluten free toast was surprisingly very good! The server was nice enough to also make sure I was OK with the fact that the home fries were not technically gluten free since they shared a fryer with other food. I really appreciated that extra precaution for my celiac fam out there (I feel for ya'll). I cleaned my plate pretty quickly and sipped on my delish mimosa. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for breakfast in Pittsburgh! Went to The Nook for my birthday and had such a good breakfast! We had a 30 minute wait for 2 on a Saturday morning (which is no big deal, bop around Butler street if you gotta!) and got a text when our table was ready, and when we were sat down the service was quick and really friendly. We got the classic benedict, pancake trio, and the waffles with pistachio paste. The crispy potatoes were really good, I thought the classic eggs Benedict were perfectly standard. Not my go to - but good if that's your jam. I'd be interested to try one of the other eggs Benedict dishes on the menu. We added bacon which was the only disappointment as it was floppy and not worth the upcharge. The pancakes were my fave! They're perfectly fluffy and huge. I ditched the salted caramel and went with the maple syrup and was happy as a clam. The waffle was also fluffy and delicious. This was my first time trying pistachio paste and it was really really sweet, definitely didn't need to add any syrup or anything. The bananas went really well with it. Was able to eat only a few things here but the staff was very aware of what I could and could not have. The only safe option for celiacs that is not a cross-contact risk is the omelets and eggs.
