The Normandy Hotel is one of DC's best kept secrets. The Normandy is located between Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan, approximately a ten-minute walk to each. It is situated on a quiet street in the residential neighborhood of Kalorama, nestled amongst stately townhomes (some embassies.) If you didn't know it was there you could miss it. A small boutique hotel with a lot of charm, spacious rooms and lovely common areas. There is parking below the building ($40.) continental breakfast is offered in a quaint seating area and connected glass terrace. The first room we had was very large with coordinated bedding, wallpaper and curtains. It had a queen bed with a small foyer and separate bathroom. The second room also had a queen bed, but was a bit smaller, more like a standard hotel room. What made each stay perfect, however, was the staff. Everyone is incredibly friendly and goes out of their way to make guests comfortable. A special shout out to Brandon at the front desk, who was a lifesaver in helping me deal with family visiting for Christmas. Have been experiencing issues from check in forward. Toilet won't flush and have advised staff twice. They have no one here today who can address the problem. The door knob to the bathroom came off in my hand. Water pressure in the shower is so poor you have to stay in there forever to rinse off. I travel a lot and understand that things can go wrong but there is typically someone there to make repairs. A non-flushing toilet is quite unsanitary. read more

Love this hotel! I stayed here for four nights while visiting a friend and my boyfriend and I loved the quaintness of this place. It's a bit of an uphill and downhill from the metro station but it's manageable. Very close to Dupont circle where all the shops and restaurants are. They have Nespresso machines in the room that only make espresso. Pretty good. In the lobby/breakfast area they also have a fancy coffee maker that can make cappuccinos and coffee. Most of the time in the afternoon it was out of milk though. They had a jar of cookies out in the afternoon that were so buttery and delicious. Lemon water was also left out. I think they allow dogs because I kept seeing a couple with their chihuahua go into the room across from us. Couldn't hear any other noise besides them coming and going from their room with the door slams. read more

My favorite hotel to stay in when I visit DC! I have stayed here many times and each time is just as great. Located in Dupont, this hotel is tucked down a quiet street. If you are just staying for the weekend, you can usually find free street parking easily. The hotel has a dated look but doesn't feel old. It has charm and uniquely decorated rooms with updated bathrooms and very comfy beds. The staff is always very friendly and happy to give a ton of great recommendations for things to do nearby and usually have discount passes for different museums or shows. I usually come to DC in the winter and the hotel has really great rates - so keep your eye out! read more

My second stay in two years. I definitely dig this boutique hotel. On my most recent visit, I had the room overlooking Wyoming Ave. That said, I had to make sure my curtains were pulled because I didn't want to show off my birthday suit to all of DC. The front desk staff is very accommodating and quick to assist. The rooms are a little small but it's DC, I get it. Don't expect to break dance in your room and be prepared to walk around your door and toilet when doing things in the bathroom. I like the beds. I like that they have the pillows that are thicker. The decor is very old school DC. Very presidential like with their wallpaper and old school look. The wifi works quite well. Breakfast in the morning is mediocre at best but I was also spoiled with some really good breakfast buffets when I was in Europe a few months ago. If you need to wind down after a long day of work, there's free wine during their happy hour. If you need to park your car, it's $23/night (so my receipt showed that but I remember it being more expensive last year). Overall, a good spot and it's walking distance to a few shops and restaurants. Uber can easily find you so that's a plus. read more

Clean and comfy hotel! As a group of 3 girls staying here we felt pretty safe. The doors to get in the building lock at 9pm and you must use your room key to get back in. They were also doing renovations while we stayed. Lots located around the building in walking distance. There is free parking in walking distance from the hotel, don't pay the valet fee! Although hesitant at first due to other reviews when booking we were pleasantly surprised by the high level of service, care, and quality of the rooms that were like 4-5-star hotels in the area. The Normandy Hotel was near many delicious restaurants and stores in the area. Parking was easily accessible with 2-hour street parking M-Sat and easy access to valet parking under the hotel (40 dollars). The location of the hotel was very safe, and we were able to easily walk our 1-year-old French bulldog in the neighborhood. There are a lot of other dog owners in the area which made his walk even more exciting. Hotel was extremely pet friendly which was a definite plus. The hotel was well maintained and lots of updates were made to have a modern look. As described the rooms do not have their own control to heat/ AC but the temperature was maintained at a comfortable temperature. We had a double queen room which had a flat screen tv, marble bathroom, in room refrigerator and Nespresso coffee machine. The beds were very comfortable and had down comforters. The manager, Nigel, was extremely helpful and did an amazing job to ensure we were comfortable during our stay. Any questions or concerns we did have were promptly addressed. Every staff member with whom we came in contact was attentive and kind including housekeeping, maintenance, and guest services. I believe if you are looking for a combination of a great hotel at an affordable price than the Normandy Hotel is for you. We will always keep Normandy Hotel as our first choice when visiting the Washington DC area due to its proximity to many restaurants, shops, safe location, well maintained rooms, and great staff. This past November it was my first time visiting Washington DC. I was all excited to take in the sites and be wowed by its history and patriotism. After a long day flying from Dallas to Baltimore, picking up my rental car and then driving to DC, I was exhausted. But this option was my choice and doesn't reflect upon this business. Wanting to be close to historical sites, The Normady Hotel is minutes north of the Dupont Circle, located in the Kalorama section of town. GPS is definitely my friend, especially when traveling to new places. I found the street on which it was located, but not the hotel. Weird. I know I am tired. So I park my car and contact their front desk for assistance. The young lady who answered was not very helpful or professional. Turns out, their next door neighbor was in the middle of renovations and had placed a huge metal dumpster right in front of this said hotel, which covered what little signage this hotel has. Who knew it was in a residential neighborhood?? Not on a corner and not well lite. And at night it can be challenging, especially for a first time guest to see or not to see their non- illumated signage. And who would allow a dirty smelly metal trash bin in front of their business anyways? What kind of impression does that make?? Not a good one. Once at the front desk, I was told to drive my car up their valet ramp and a hotel staff member will be out to assist me. So, I walk down the street to get my car, and there is very limited spots to park. Traveler beware. There are signs everywhere, most confusing crud I have ever seen. One spot on the street allows parking, another doesn't, but only for a certain time. DC is not a car friendly city at all. Anyways, I walked to my rental car, drove to hotel ramp, and waited. A few minutes go by. No one comes out. So I politely wait a couple more minutes. Ok. I am just too tired for this hiccup. Please baby Jesus, help me out. I go inside again, this time with all my luggage with me. Apparently I misunderstood that one is suppose to bring their keys to the hotel's front desk in order for their staff to park one's car inside their underground garage. This is going from bad to a nightmare. Valet is $40 a night plus tax, with access options. What used to be part of the hotels accommodations is now extra. That's crummy. I haul my luggage up to my 2nd story room and just collapse on the bed. Traveling can be so exhausting at times. There was no bellman to assist me, and I could of used a little help. There are a series of tiny stairs going up and down between the main hallway, the elevators, and the front desk. I love to tip and don't mind a few well spent dollars. Arriving around 8pm, I had missed the Normandy's complimentary cookie, cheese, and wine hour. And I really needed a glass of wine. Now my girl at the front desk had not explained where everything is or any food or drink accommodations. And she was quite aware this was my first visit. I call down to speak to a manager, one was not available. Sensing my stress and unhappy experience, I was offered a complimentary glass of wine. And believe me, I took them up on their offer, cheap wine or not, my nerves were really frazzled. A few steps from the front desk on the main first floor is a lovely guest area with an electric fireplace, comfortable chairs and a couch, board games, and magazines. With my red wine and a couple cookies, I tried to decompress and just focus on the fun and adventure I was about to embark on. Eight days to relax and let my hair down. I take a couple pictures, talk to a few friends, and let my family know I made it safely to my hotel. The usual traveling alone protocol. It's about 10pm now and I haven't really seen much of the sights. I schedule a Lyft ride and a car comes within a few moments. Walking down several blocks at that hour just didn't seem like the thing to do. My Lyft driver was very professional and helped to point out a lot of the usual historical sites. Time and money well spent. Back at the hotel I settle in for the night. One can tell walking in, that the property needs better maintenance. Paint is chipped. Doors and walls have scratches and dings where luggage had banged into them over time. The elevators look quite dated and ran slow. Everything was very clean, but one can tell where money to keep the property up had and hadn't been spent. The thermostat in my room was broken. Luckily, it was on too hot and not too cold. The manual blind under the curtains wasn't rolling up, so no natural sunlight for my room that morning. There were 2 bottles of complimentary water, which is nice. And the nepresso machine did nothing for me. I loved the Toile covered walls, furniture was decent. Their bed & bedding were divine. I slept like a baby. My bathroom had no formal counter, just space under the sink to place my travel bag for showering and such. The water pressure and shower were delightful. The styling is modern. read more

My wife and I used to stay here when we visited Washington, D.C., but no more. After management changed, the service and the property have deteriorated significantly. One night in October, the rooms were approximately 90 degrees because they had a warm spell and didn't want to turn off the heat (the rooms have thermostats that give the illusion of control, but don't actually affect the room's temperature). There was no warning when we checked in or offer of compensation after we spent a miserable night there, even though this was an entirely foreseeable event that was affecting the entire hotel. Recently, I called to ask for an invoice for a stay a few months back (the Normandy had failed to email my wife her invoice). Apparently, only a manager can accomplish this and it would only happen if I call back when the manager is around (of course, the hotel staff has no idea when this will be). This level of customer service is particularly astonishing, because business travelers are the ones who request invoices and such customers are usually a hotel's bread and butter. read more

We came in from Utah and had the privilege to stay in this hotel during a conference for about four days. During our stay we felt very welcomed by the friendly staff. We absolutely loved the feel of this place. It felt "old world" and quaint and we loved it. It had several complementary amenities as well. For example fruit infused icewater. Also they would give cheese, crackers and wine at 5 o'clock during our stay, or fresh baked cookies if you'd prefer. They would greet us and open the door for us every time we came and even gave us an umbrella on several rainy days. It was a place where technology met our nation's deep and rich history. $109/night half a mile tops from Dupont Circle. Let that marinate in your head for a moment or two. Jurys was an INCREDIBLE deal. It's a sweet hotel on a residential block and next to what appeared to be a foreign consulate. The room was clean and cool and dry - excellent to come home to after a day in the humid/thunderstormy/sweltering air of a DC summer. The queen bed was comfortable and beautifully decorated, and the TV (which I didn't watch...go me!) had all sorts of cable and network options. All of the rooms are equipped with wifi, the bathroom has all of the amenities, they offer wakeup calls and cool washcloths to wipe your face when you first return after a day out in the heat, there's a $9 continental breakfast...and now it's time to revisit that $109/night again. It was close enough to all of the touristy things down on Capitol Hill, it was close enough to Adams Morgan and the grittiness found therein, it was close enough to the absolutely fabulous "Castro in DC" Dupont Circle. The staff was friendly and helpful. Nice thing to say here, nice thing to say there, etc etc. Best bargain I could find in DC. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. read more

Very cute boutique hotel, tucked away from the main hustle & bustle of Dupont Circle but still walkable to the main drag on Connecticut. Super friendly employees, daily wine & cheese hour from 5 - 6 PM, and well-appointed, if small, rooms. We stayed here for several nights and used their meeting space for our annual regional summit, and had a great experience. They provide a lot of amenities, including wonderful-smelling bath products (though no separate shampoo and conditioner), free bottled water, the aforementioned wine & cheese hour every evening, free coffee and tea available throughout the day, etc. I really liked the decoration in the rooms and especially the bathrooms -- very chic and modern. The hotel is obviously fairly old, and has signs of age: the windowsill was loose, the AC unit cover wasn't completely attached, the elevator is slow, and the walls are thin as paper. Like, so thin that I would probably not consider coming here with my husband, but for a work conference it was A-OK, haha. ;) They also offer a continental breakfast every morning for $12 a day ($6 for us as part of our group stay), but even at half-price it wasn't really worth it. Bagels & croissants, mini-muffins, some deli meats and cheeses, whole fruit, and a dish of hard-boiled eggs does not a great spread make. I would've loved at least a dish of cut fruit or something to help energize me in the morning. All that said, I still had a really enjoyable stay and would return to the Normandy. The staff alone was great, and I really appreciated the personal feel and lovely common area space on the ground floor. read more

I almost didn't write this review because I wanted to keep this to myself. This is the hotel I have been waiting to find in a major city. Well-appointed, comfy room; elegant bathroom; friendly, helpful staff; real coffee in the room (awesome espresso); evening complimentary wine/cheese gathering; great location; amazingly quiet room. Would I go back again - you bet! Would I even think of planning a trip because I could use this hotel. Yes! And in response to others who compare their travel experiences - I have lived in France and Italy and also in two resort communities in the US, crossed on the QEII, etc. - this hotel rises to the top of my list. 3.5 stars. Not quite a 3, but not a 4 in my opinion. I wasn't blown away. The hotel is boutiquey. VERY boutiquey. And not like that's a bad thing, but I guess you sometimes just get used to the chain hotels. Room was small. Not cramped, but pretty darn small. Almost no counter space in the bathroom for your makeup and/toiletries. I had to store my brush on top of the toilet. No way to adjust the temperature of your room. I guess it's controlled for the entire building so if you come between or just as the seasons are changing, if they haven't turned on the heat or AC for whole building yet, you're SOL. I slept bundled up with 2 blankets and my sweater and beanie on. I do get cold easily and not used to East coast weather so would've appreciated the option to turn on my own room heater. They did have a little mini "happy hour" with comp wine, cheese, cookies, lemonade, coffee/tea. I thought that was nice and took advantage of it daily. Everyone from the front desk staff to the maintenance staff was just so friendly and helpful. Just very warm, welcoming, conversational. Decent location with shops and restaurants within a 10 min walk. The gym was a bit of a further walk away and I wasn't able to make it with my schedule. Definitely not just across or "down" the street. I'm not opposed to staying again but I can't say it was my most comfortable hotel stay. read more

Internet, slow as molasses getting on, had to reboot several times streaming, but once on for email, Facebook, news, etc., seems fast enough. Espresso machine nice touch, works fine. Bath: Good, although I always worry a bit about showers with glass doors. Shower fine. Staff: Dealt only with the fellow at the desk, and he was helpful, personable. At first glance you may be surprised by the inconspicuous sign and small property. But be ready to be welcomed by a wonderful and accommodating staff. Patrice helped me carry my tons of baggage, parked my car, AND found me a spot for my bike. Robert at the front desk was extremely kind, efficient, and ready to receive us. All this made our initial welcome superb. Bike rentals: they have these new sweet rides you can reserve with a helmet for FREE! I was so impressed. You're able to reserve it for 4 hours at a time. Ambiance: It's an older classic feel that meets remodeled clean modern. Smallish rooms, but cozy and comfortable. The lobby is extremely cozy. Continental breakfast: was honestly 'meh,' but when is it not? SIDE NOTE: I asked a server if there was any non-dairy milk, but she politely said no. A minute later she shows up with a tetrapak of Coconut milk and another of Rice milk! Impressed. Complimentary Happy Hour: 5-6pm there is a red Cabernet Sauvignon and a white Chardonnay available to all guests. There is also a platter of cheddar, smoked gouda, and crackers for one to enjoy. Many of our hours were happy this week. Service: Consistent! Throughout the entire week, our service only improved. The staff was incredibly attentive and helpful with everything we needed. The only negative feedback is that there was one older man with glasses who wasn't very personable. In fact, we wanted to reserve some bikes for the following day and he was like Oscar the Grouch and said, "Sorry, it's first come first serve." But the young woman interjected, "Oh no worries, I'll jot your names here, and they're all yours." CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Such hospitality! But the MVP service award goes to none other than Robert. This man was always on point. Greeted with a smile every moment of every day, he was always looking to help us and make our lives easier. I recently stayed a few nights at the Normandy on a business trip to DC, and would definitely stay here again on future personal trips. This boutique hotel was quaint, charming, and inviting. Attention caffeine lovers: there was a complimentary automatic coffee machine in the lobby that made espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, etc. If not, Starbucks was down the street. The superior bedroom was renovated and included all the amenities: LG flat screen + cable TV, wi-fi, mini-fridge, NESPRESSO machine, iron board, umbrella, and the largest (though not the best quality) bath towels ever. The bed was so comfy with such soft linens that I actually chose to stay-in, instead of exploring DC nightlife. My only complaints would be the small space and the lighting - it would flicker occasionally and since I'm the type who often scare myself... well, you know what [paranormal things] I was thinking of... The Normandy was definitely a hidden gem, tucked away in a residential and embassy area, but steps away from the bustling Dupont Circle neighborhood. Some of my fave eateries within walking distance include: Bethesda Bagels, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Bistrot du Coin (French food), and DolceZZa gelato café. Service was courteous and helpful from beginning to end. It didn't matter where I was --at the entrance, hallway, elevator-- every staff member smiled and greeted me. Upon checking out, they even offered complimentary bottled water and chocolates. It's the little things that make the experience. I loved staying in this cute little hotel this week while in DC for work. Everyone on my team stayed here and we had all of our sessions in the hotel's conference room. Over the course of the five days I think we experienced everything there is to experience about The Normandy Hotel. I absolutely loved the location. I'm not too familiar with the workings of DC, but it seemed like it was just off the beaten path enough to be quaint and quiet, but close enough to walk to plenty of restaurants for a great lunch. Pros: - The rooms were charming and comfortable. They definitely had their own personality with the interesting wallpaper and sleek linens. - Free bottled water in every room! - Staff was second to none. Every need was taken care of before you even knew you needed it. I used a wash cloth to wash my makeup off one day, the next day I had disposable makeup remover wipes in the bathroom for me to use. Coincidence? I think not. - The meeting room was incredibly comfortable. Tons of natural light was let in through the large windows and I loved the patio area even though we didn't get to use it. - Elevator was fast. Weird observation, but it was! Cons: - Not enough light in the room. I absolutely love low light situations, but more often than not I found myself searching for a better source of light. - The continental breakfast was "meh", but really what do you expect when you're dealing with a continental breakfast? I just don't think it was worth the $12 that they charge. - Noise. The walls were fine, but I found most of the noise coming in through the doors. I could hear everything outside of my room. That comes with the territory, but it just seemed a bit more pronounced at this hotel than at others that I've stayed in. The room was small but exceptional design with -- huge plasma, dvd player, nespresso Le cube coffee maker (I loved it as I am a nespresso fan), the best bed and very bathroom. \ The front desk people were amazing and really make our stay perfect, from the check in , help to find some good place. I stayed here for a wedding and had a lovely time. The front desk checked us in early, which was appreciated after a long flight from the west coast. The room was very comfortable and clean. We loved the nespresso machine in the room and appreciated that the front desk staff gave us refills on our second day there. The surrounding neighborhood was very safe, clean, and walkable. When we checked out, they were kind enough to hold onto our luggage so we could explore the city more. I ended up staying in a different hotel later in my trip (I wasn't involved in booking Normandy so I didn't even think to just extend my stay there) and I kept thinking about how much nicer the Normandy Hotel was than the second hotel. If I'm ever back in DC, I wouldn't hesitate to re-book here. read more

I wanted to like this hotel, but after three nights, I can't bring myself to do it. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: Cozy Nicely decorated Free wireless internet (although the signal is often weak) Cons: My room was LOUD. I heard traffic all night and had to sleep with a pillow over my head The breakfast costs and is light on protein (no meat, only hard boiled eggs, only had yogurt one out of three times) No fitness center The service was a little off. The staff failed to deliver on a request for a wake up call, and the check out took an unreasonably long time No cab stand out front. I requested the hotel to order a cab for me to get to the airport, and the ordered a car, which ended up costing 50% more than the cab I took to get from the airport! I'm going to be a bit less praiseworthy than some of the other reviewers. My wife and I spent a single night here on a kids-free getaway last weekend. We chose it based on the location, the budget-friendly rate, and the decent reviews here and elsewhere. Our experience was so-so and I'm not sure that I'd recommend it to others. Keep in mind that I've done plenty of business travel. However, since we live a half-hour outside D.C., I've never had the need to stay in a hotel in the city. The good: Great location, quaint "non-hotel" feel, comfy bed! The bad: condescending front desk staff, horribly cramped underground garage, stifling hot room, strange lack of basic amenities. The Normandy offers two types of rooms: XS and what I can only presume is XXS. The "Superior" room - the smaller of the two - must be the size of a cubicle since the "Deluxe" room - the one we got - is slightly bigger. Thankfully, the room they originally gave us had a queen and, since we reserved a room with a king, they gave us a new room. This room was MUCH larger - likely due to the fact that it was handicap-accessible - but was oddly missing a dresser or anything to put clothes in. The room was also stiflingly hot (even with the heater turned off) which made our single night's stay uncomfortable. However, if you're willing to put up with snooty front desk staff, Mercury-like temperature, and micro-rooms, the room rate and walking proximity to Dupont Circle could make this hotel worthy of your consideration. read more

I don't want to give them a bad review but it's messed up that The Normandy Hotel was false advertising with the app booking.. I went to order room never did booking say I had to be 21 nor did it say I had to check in for 3 days to at least stay.. I thought that was messed up that the women at the front desk told me I couldn't get my money back because they don't have anything to do with booking and it would be up to management to get it back. I don't know. This place has promise but the execution is missing. The rooms are absolutely tiny and the hallways very narrow. This is not a complaint. I actually found it rather charming. But. When I arrived, there was some kind of crusty stuff and a stain on the folded blanket at the foot of the bed, so I requested a replacement. The second blanket was there when I returned to room, but just kind of tossed haphazardly onto the bed. I always check the bed for evidence of bedbugs, and I found none here. What I did find, though, was a splotchy pink stain on the mattress. It was on the foot of the bed, not the head, but still. Basically within a couple of minutes of being in the room I found 2 separate things that made me drop what I was doing to wash my hands. Not a great start. The wine and cheese thing later that day? Meh. First of all, I went downstairs a little after 5, and there was nothing out but tea and cookies. Ironically, another prospective guest stopped by, and front desk staff showed him around, including the room where wine and cheese are served, stating (as I'd been told as well) that this would be available from 5-6 each night. Nothing was out when this happened, around 5:15. Another guest finally asked at the front desk, and an employee brought out the wine and cheese around 5:20. So the wine and cheese? Great idea, lacking execution. I went back up to my room, which was noticeably colder than the hallway. I'd turned on the heat earlier, but it hadn't come on. I tried turning up the temperature to get it to turn on. Long story short, two hours and a couple of phone calls and a visit from a staff member later, they moved me to a different room. I appreciated the effort, and the staff were really nice about it, but it was a little annoying to have to move as I'd already taken out and hung up some of my clothing (business attire) to start getting the wrinkles out from being in my suitcase. There's some sense of run-down-ness here. Chipping paint, stained carpet. The elevator was extremely slow, the first room stayed cold no matter how high I turned the heat, there's almost no cell signal in the hotel and the wireless goes in and out. All in all these issues started to get a little annoying. It probably would have mattered far less had I been on a fun little getaway- and I think for that type of trip this hotel would be fine, except for the cold room- but unfortunately I was working. So the slow elevator was annoying when I had meetings to get to, and the spotty wireless was extremely frustrating given that with no cell signal either, I couldn't even use data to send emails or work. Helpful hints: it's hard to park here but you can grab a two-hour spot on the street that's good for the night after 8:30 (but you do have to move car first thing next morning). Or just do valet through the hotel. It's expensive but is parking ever not ridiculous in a city? I do think this place would work for a weekend getaway if you got a good deal- which we did. For a work-related trip, I'd go elsewhere. read more

The Normandy Hotel was fine. I went as a part of a group that all had similar reservation levels. The rooms couldn't have been more different. Some had nice, updated showers, others had old fashioned plastic ones. Some rooms looked modern with nice painting, others had wallpaper (including the window shades?) that made the rooms feel claustrophobic. Water pressure varied hugely. 4 rooms in our group had non-functioning TVs. I did not try mine, but my room phone only worked on speaker - most of the buttons did nothing. The wifi is honestly the worst I've had, and the cell reception was really bad in certain parts of the hotel so using phone data wasn't always a remedy. I had to walk to a different hotel to do work using their wifi. As far as I can tell the only uniform experience we had was poorly controlled room temperature. As far as I could tell, the in-room thermostats were meaningless. I thought my room was uncomfortably warm until I visited my friends who must have been in the mid to upper 80s. On the other hand, I found the staff generally helpful and the common areas nicely decorated and comfortable. I know people enjoyed the free wine as well. Not a hard skip, just expect issues. read more

Got a room here through a Living Social deal. It was amazing. $170 for 2 nights in Dupont Circle. The amenities were great: espresso machine in the room; double headed shower; beautiful room; huge tv; comfy bed. The continental breakfast was excellent as well. Perhaps the best part: a free wine and cheese hour each night in the lobby. Stay here if you're visiting DC. read more

We booked a discounted rate through The Normandy's website. We arrived around noon and were pleased to find out that our room was already available. Check in was a breeze with the help of a very nice gentleman named Neil. The room was small, which is to be expected in a hotel of this nature, but extremely clean. The bathroom and shower are WONDERFUL (only downside is no counter space). The walls are a bit thin so we heard neighbors for a short time in the evening, but the noon check out made up for it. It was a perfect location for our plans. We wanted to spend a day at the zoo, but also wanted to be close to DuPont Circle. We rode in on Metro so it was important to be near a station as well. We'll be back! read more

Pros: Located in a cute neighborhood with lots of restaurants walking distance. The bathroom was my only favorite part of the room. Close to museums and White House. We got a better price directly through their website vs. Expedia Cons: The walls are paper thin and we could hear our neighbor's conversations. Seems a bit outdated and the carpet had several stains which makes the entire room seem dirty. It needs better lighting also. The elevator is extremely small and smelled. It's not awful but I definitely wouldn't stay here again. Also, the valet issued us a different car the morning we were heading to the airport which was extremely frustrating...we got our car 25 min later. No apology and he still had the nerve to stand by the door waiting for a tip. read more

The Normandy is a great little boutique hotel right in the middle of D.C. The hotel is well taken care off and all the rooms are very nicely done. One little quibble, they weren't quite sure what to make of/do with my bicycle. In the end I just took my bike in my room with me. read more

Old world hotel with a great modern feel. At checkin everyone was very nice and welcoming. The process was quick and painless. We got to our room, a superior double on the 4th floor. The room was warm and welcoming. Very comfortable beds, nice hot steam shower, espresso machine, mini fridge, plasma TV. It was a quiet neighborhood so no street noise at night. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. Ok so a few points. One, parking is expensive at the hotel at $40 a day. Check parking panda. We parked right down the hill at a secure lot for $43 for the entire 3 night stay. Two, the metro is about 8 blocks downhill but it is a HIKE back uphill. Three, room has no dresser, it would have been nice to have had drawers for the clothes. Four, there was a gap between the window and the curtain so the street light poured through. If you can't sleep with light be aware of this. read more

If I could give this place 6 stars I would. The customer service is here phenomenal. The staff exhibits class, professionalism and they are engaging. I flew a red eye and had to be at a conference by 11am. I was able to check-in at 8am. Adrian & Robert realized I needed sleep and kindly accommodated. This request would have never have happened at a corporate hotel. When visiting DC, stay here if you wanted to be treated with the most respect. Booked it for three nights left after one. Rooms just way too small. Booked myself at the hotel palomar got full service hotel with a gym a great location and a massive room for twenty bucks more. Side note: the morning I decided to check out early (of the normandy) a british woman chatted me up near the coffee and turned out she works for the hotel. I told her I was leaving after one night and she was very nice offered to do something 'nice for me" gave her my card and she never followed up. :(((. That might have salvaged my stay .... The hotel is fine in terms of location and customer service but it did make me claustrophobic and depressed. So I left!:) read more

The ONLY complaint I have about The Normandy was that the room was really too small for two double beds. It was a chore to get my suitcase past the first bed (had to lift it over). Other than that, it was really great. The front desk staff was very helpful and even got us set up in the room before our reservation made it through to their system, which we appreciated. The valet was quick and courteous, and it was just an all around great time. read more

The photo of the room is accurate. There's not much of a view, but you're in DC near Dupont Circle. The rooms are small, but nicely renovated. Nicest bathroom that I've seen. The HDTV is an entertainment center, with plug-ins mounted on the adjacent wall. Staff is great. Lounge area is inviting, comfortably unpretentious. Parking is a problem. You might want to park elsewhere and take the Metro in to the Dupont Circle station. read more

Good: 1. Great customer service. They were so accommodating and helpful when I got there. They continue to be helpful all three days of my stay. 2. Clean/nice rooms 3. Reasonable prices 4. Nice décor Bad: 1. I put the sign "do not clean" but they still cleaned my room. I had not put any of my things away so I didn't like that someone was in the room. 2. There hair dryers do not work. I asked for an extra one but it didn't work either. This is so crucial in 30 degree weather. read more

This hotel is nice but terribly in need of insect extermination.  Early this morning around 1am several insects come out; they were roaches, I called the  front desk and informed Roberto, he came to the room with insect spray and bagged one roach , I had not killed and said it was not a roach, (it sure looked like one ).  I asked for compensation and a new room, I was told there were no  other rooms available.  Roberto asured us he would talk to manager and we would be accommodated.  It is going to be a long  unresting day. read more
