This place is cute, walkable to all the things in downtown Carmel and the beach. The rooms are old but you have everything you need. I did encounter some bed bugs after I was in the bed for a couple hours, which was the worst feeling imaginable. The staff handled it well. They sent someone up to verify that they were, indeed, bed bugs, then they got me a new, clean room. Helped bag and move my things. They comped my evening and were extremely apologetic. You can't beat the location and the price, hopefully they took care of that room's isolated little problem. I had to throw away several articles of clothing though, so it's still a net loss. read more

We prefer the cottage suites that offer more room and a complete kitchen. The staff are friendly and helpful. We have stayed here a few times, in a wide variety of rooms. This visit. our friends had a small room, while we splurged on a cottage with full kitchen, table, a fireplace, and two extra comfy chairs. The vaulted ceiling made the room bright and airy. Room 203 is highly recommended, but not cheap, located at the far end of the property. The inn sprawls over a full block, nicely landscaped, with a continental breakfast included. read more

This is our last stay. The rates are high and the service is worse every time we go. We've been coming at staying at the Normandy Inn for more than 15 years. Over the years we've seen rates skyrocket while the service has been declining. Imagine coming to stay in 2007 and having the luxury of afternoon sherry reception, excellent housekeeping and high end hotel experience throughout our stay. Fast forward to 2026 and there aren't even glasses in the room! You have to drink from flimsy plastic cups! Did they adjust the rates to reflect that? Of course not! They still charge you like it's a luxury hotel. Ok, so at least the cottages give you some flexibility, right? Not a regular dingy room in the main building . Wrong. The cottage courtyard with a table to give you a little stretch (the rooms are TINY) was taken over by their staff on a morning break. They just sat there, on their phones and occupied the guest table eating their free breakfast yogurt. They didn't even move when they saw us coming out of the cottage. So we sat on our cottage's steps eating what can be best described as hostel quality breakfast. Cold hard boiled eggs, crappy coffee and Costco cups of cereal and pastries. Certainly not $300+ a night hotel experience. Let's talk amenities! There a coffee maker and a mini fridge. That's it. Enjoy yourselves folks. Extra blankets? Nope! Extra pillows? Forget it. A cot maybe, for a child staying with you? Are you nuts? We called housekeeper 3 times and 3 times we heard "I cant come out to you". I don't remember the last time I was this disrespected. Honestly I'd rather stay at Motel 6. They are honest about their level of service and the rates reflect that. If you're looking for something better in Carmel, may I suggest the Pine Inn. That's where we're staying from now on. read more

We decided to spent this special occasion up north in Carmel-by the sea, the Normandy Inn in downtown Carmel. This is a 45 unit cottage now was built in 1924 by architect Robert Stanton and his wife, designed to concept gracious living, because of his wife being a party editor for a magazine. This historic place is in a perfect location close to shops, restauants, stores and galleries. We stayed in 109 which was one of the original college, there was a welcoming box of Belgian choclate seashells from the hotel front staff, which Jennifer and Kayla were so nice, friendly, helpful with a lot of Info. The room was comfortably and cozy, with a fireplace that was decorated very nicely. I only had two Issues with the room,1. The windows panes are so thin when you open the louvers on the inside it is very airy, plus our heater was not working properly, we had to get an portable from the front office for heat, 2. The toilet paper holder on the wall was..let's just say you had to make a full quarter turn to get the paper to finish your job. Also the general manager Cecile Willimson was very nice giving us a lot of history about the Normandy Inn. read more

The bedroom, bathroom, and location are good enough. The rest are negatives. Front desk staff were nice, but reassured me the rooms were quiet. I slept less than 6 hours per night because of the stomping upstairs until late, the snoring man next door, the early morning "powerful CEO" meeting some megalomaniac was having upstairs for over an hour, and the running back and forth for an hour at 5 am from departing guests above us, promptly followed by the stomping from the cleaning crew. Breakfast is less than mediocre, although the woman that works in the dining area was very kind and helpful. Carmel has beautiful scenery, but it is a gigantic tourist trap. If you are looking for a restful, stress free, or romantic getaway where you do not feel taken advantage of, this is NOT the hotel. Suggestion to the hotel: invest on proper sound insulation on walls and between floors. A varied healthful breakfast is also needed. read more

This is such a quaint hotel with lots of character. Loved having a fireplace in the room for those cold mornings. We kept the windows open at night for a cool breeze. The location is just a 5 minute walk to the beach and near downtown shops/restaurants. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They serve a continental breakfast in the mornings. Not much to it so if you want something more there are coffee shops and bakeries nearby. Definitely not a chain hotel with all the amenities but just right for a few nights in Carmel. read more

My daughter and I stayed here and although it was conveniently located in downtown Carmel, it definitely needs some improvement. My biggest complaint is that they didn't provide a safe place for us to store our luggage! And they had a VERY strict checkout procedure which included NO late checkout under any circumstances charging 75 for every 15 minute delay in checkout. This is ridiculous. Great little inn, conveniently located to both downtown and the beach. The property is spotless clean in and out, and they spend a considerable amount of time and effort to scrub it. A couple of minor issues that I had: the courtyard parking is very tight (literally) - I drive a regular car that is just a tad wider than an average compact, and yet I had to fold the side mirrors in order to squeeze between the walls. If you drive a larger vehicle, like an SUV or a full size car, then covered parking is not for you. If you are lucky, you may snatch one of the few uncovered spots, otherwise it's street parking. Another thing was that the walls between the rooms seem to be very thin and you will hear *everything* that is going on next door, even a normal conversation if they happen to raise the voice a little bit. Did not bother me too much but for the price, I would prefer it to be a bit quieter. Aside from those small things, I had a good stay and will consider staying there if I happen to be in Carmel again. read more

Stayed here for our babymoon (one Saturday night towards end if August). One word summery... not impressed. $400 a night for a tiny room. Low ceiling, old furniture, small t.v, and paper thin walls. We tried taking a nap but the sounds of feet stomping down the corridor or stairs? made that impossible. Wonder if it was the cleaning crew because it was a lot of back and forth for over 10 minutes. Then around 6pm, I heard the people talking next to our room. I can make out their muffled words and hear what they are saying which is disturbing considering their volume seems pretty normal, maybe a notch over. Ugh. So much for a relaxing baby-moon away from our toddler for a night. The only reason people probably stay here is the location, but I would rather stay somewhere else. They don't have parking (maybe 15 spots max) so we had to park a couple blocks away and ended up walking more than we wanted to anyway in this location. Save your money and spend it somewhere else. read more

The inn could best be described as quaint and quirky. I stayed here with family for a big family celebration in June. We stayed in the cottages. I had young children with me. They had a blast but I would not recommend anyone bringing young children. The cottage was very old but had supposedly been redone. The problem with that was there were steps down or up into the remodeled area of each cottage. Both myself, my husband and my kids tripped a few times. The breakfast each morning was very good- with a little something for everyone. It's very central to everything. You can walk downtown or to the beach. The parking here is pretty terrible. If you're staying in the inn, good luck squeezing in the tiny spaces. If you're staying in the cottages, you get a parking spot but ours was by an inconveniently placed tree that threatened to damage our car each time. It would've helped if they had a no parking sign in the area behind it so that we could safely pull out each time. There are few outlets in the cottage so be prepared for that. Bedroom 3 did not get heat unless you kept the door opened between it and bedroom 2, which was not convenient. The staff is kind and helpful. Would i go back? Yes. But not with young kids. read more

We were disappointed. we checked into discover that there was a party going on above us so they put us in a different room which didn't have any air-conditioning in the windows didn't open and it was about 86° in the room and offered us a small fan. We went back to the room with the noise and we were woken up at 6 AM. People speaking loudly outside our door. The room was dated. Overall, I would not recommend. read more

Practically everything is cute in Carmel by the Sea. We usually stay at what was once known as "Carmel Village Inn" but's been renovated and commercialized now. At any rate, I tried the Normandy Inn as it was close to the beach and had availability. The motel is about 10 mins walking distance to the white sandy beach. Walking back is more challenging as it's a steep hill. It's also really close to all the stores and many bakeries. If you're there during summer there are many people out and about (coffee shops have lines and availability gets low on motels). The room was nice and cozy. I had a room somewhat secluded where you had to go through the pool (heated to 80°) to get to it. Tv was good, bed was comfortable and bathroom was nice. I believe the place was recently renovated. There's a continental breakfast that is from 7:30 - 10:30. I will say that parking is limited for guests and they are not pet friendly. Overall I liked it! read more

We like room 109. We also enjoyed the duplex cottage across the street five years ago. The room overlooking the pool had a bit more chatter, yet a nice view in the past. Really like room 109 with the fireplace and durafkame logs. Bright, roomy, two sinks, toilet/shower door for privacy. Two comfortable chairs, chaise-lounge chair and comfortable bed. Very close to Ocean ave., Carmel.... Just a few steps out of our door. Also, we are just a few steps away from the continental breakfast in the morning. My husband took a look at the breakfast and we were here on Monday and Tuesday. It was very simple and we decided to go out for breakfast instead. Coffee and tea are available inside the room along with the refrigerator. This is our favorite room so far at the Normandy Inn! read more

We were in need of a hotel just for a Monday night and waited until we were in the area before booking, since it seemed like off-peak and there were plenty of options. I called and they had a slightly better price than hotels.com so I said why not. They do have a no pets allowed sign right in front, so keep that in mind. Many hotels in the area are pet friendly. The clerk at the front desk was friendly and we booked a standard queen room. They have complimentary coffee, tea, cider, cocoa, and sugar cookies in the lobby area, which was nice since we were tired from the drive and walking around before we arrived. The grounds are fine, but parking is limited. It does seem to be the standard around the area, and you're lucky if a hotel has a lot at all. Their parking lot entrance is off Casanova and Ocean. They did have one spot available in the carport area, but the spots are VERY NARROW. I managed to park my car in a spot, and I do recommend pulling in your side mirrors when you go to back out. There is 24 hour free street along Ocean Ave right in front though. The room was fine. We were in 300 block of rooms upstairs. The room was clean and cozy. The bathroom seemed to be upgraded recently, with a walk in shower, new tile, and lighted vanity mirror. I thought the shower had a rainfall showerhead, but was disappointed to learn it was just a standard showerhead without adjustable water pressure and a rainfall type covering on it. We had wood shutters on the windows which kept out the sunlight in the morning. A minor complaint is that they had some construction happening on premises, and we could hear the noise of the trucks pulling in and out of the driveway. They offer a decent continental breakfast in a little breakfast "nook" area a short walk through the back of the lobby. Muffins, bagels, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, apples, oranges, bananas, cereal. I'd consider staying here again next time I'm in the area. read more

The grounds are absolutely beautiful, rooms are nice, remodeled bathrooms, nice heated pool, perfect location but they should have insulated the walls instead of remodeling the bathrooms. We had a malfunction at home so we were on the phone to talk them through the issue. We got a call from the front desk at 9:02pm FRIGGIN 9:02??? They had a complaint about us being loud and quiet time is 9pm??? We could hear everything from the neighbors Talking, Snoring, Sex etc. Also no refrigerator or microwave. We had a good stay here. Room was a decent size and very clean. Everything was within walking distance. 5 minutes walk to the beach. The receptionist was friendly, courteous, and explained everything patiently. We stayed here for 3 nights and housekeeping was provided upon request. You have to let the receptionist know at least 24 hours before when exactly you need the housekeeping and this is part of the COVID safety measurements. It was clearly communicated when we checked in. The only issue that we had was that the room wall was thin and we could hear the guests in the room next door. They were pretty loud and it was annoying. My suggestion is for the management to post a note in every room to remind the guests to be considerate to other guests. Other than that, it's a very good place to stay and enjoy Carmel-by-the-sea. read more

Pros: location. You're right on the end of downtown so you can leave your room, go up one side of downtown, back the other side, and you're back at your room. The ocean is a5 minute walk the other direction. I'm not sure there's a better location. Cons: The wifi is weak and constantly disconnects. The walls are super thin, so get ready to hear every step above you and every word around you and on the street. This is a weird one but the toilet paper in our room is located behind where you sit so unless you're a contortionist you can't grab it with 2 hands. Luckily it's the cheap 1 ply so you can sometimes quickly tear it with one hand. Not having a fridge and microwave in a city with amazing restaurants is a shame as well. read more

I really wanted to love this place, but there were just too many misses. I will base this review on the fact of the price point vs. the quality of this Inn. I fully understand that this Inn is in a prime location, however, if you are paying close to $200 a night for a room the size of a match box, there better be zero spiders nor should I be able to hear the guy next door breathing. So I will start out with saying that the amount I paid was not the amount that I booked the room at. I assume that the extra $130 came from fees, I let it go. Second, the room we got was small and very dated. However the bathroom was completely renovated and was pretty nice. The bed was cheap and extremely uncomfortable. It was also not a Queen, as they advertise. It was a full/double size. There is no fridge nor microwave. BUT they do have door dash, so that is a plus for night time eats when everything is closed. Third, the walls are so thin. I mean, might as well take the wall down and have one big bedroom. I heard every conversation from the group of friends upstairs clear as day. Then, we could hear the person's snoring like a freight train. Like, $200 a night to listen to that? Fourth, we were here 2 days. Within those 2 days, we found 6 spiders. 6!! $200 a night can afford you an exterminator. Fifth, the water pressure in the shower is on drizzle mode. Things I liked: - they have great internet and it's included - the idea of the Inn is adorable. They have better rooms with more amenities. - location is great. It's close to the beach as well as Downtown Carmel - they provided a breakfast (7:30am-10:30am) - the room has wonderful windows that provide great light in the day time. - pillows are wonderful! - front office is open 24/7 Honestly, not completely sure that I would stay here again. I feel like they should the same effort in all their rooms for the price point. You can't just charge $200 a night because location is good but the room sucks and is uncomfortable. Rooms like this in any other beach town are much cheaper because the company knows the rooms aren't up to par. I wouldn't recommend. read more

This place is fantastic, luxurious while being true to the area. Tucked away at the end of the main shopping and eatery filled road in Carmel, it offers a view of the road, and a peek of the ocean. The staff is incredibly helpful, and the accommodations are perfect. This is our second stay, again for our anniversary, and we again elected one of the cottages, 203 being our go to. It's a cottage that Phyllis A Whitney described in detail in the 80's. This will be our forever destination while visiting the area. Pricing is fair, and the kitchen and fireplace make it your home for the time you're there. Highly recommend this, especially the cottages, and especially room 203. read more

My wife & I booked a room at The Normandy Inn for a long awaited vacation in Carmel by the Sea. The room was on the ground floor. First impressions, the room was very small. It had a queen size bed which took up most of the space in the room. Only two windows opened, one small one in the bedroom & a smaller one in the bathroom. No ceiling fan or AC (most of the hotels here do not have AC due to proximity to the ocean). No refrigerator or coffee maker. The first thing we noticed was that we could hear the guests in the two adjacent rooms talking pretty clearly. When we went to bed, I closed the one small window in the bedroom for safety, because we were on the street level. As we went to bed, the room felt very warm & we could hear talking from one adjacent room & snoring from the other adjacent room. Being on street level, we also heard talking from pedestrians & a lot of traffic noise. The bed was very uncomfortable, so this added to our difficulty falling asleep. After falling asleep my wife was awoken by the guests above us walking in their room. I woke up in the middle of the night in a sweat due to no fan or open windows. I then couldn't fall back to sleep due the man in the adjacent room's snoring. The one positive thing about the room was that it had a nice shower, and a positive about the property is that it's relatively close to the ocean. We had booked a 4 night stay, but after our horrible night's sleep we checked out. We both agreed that this was the single worst hotel experience either of us has ever had. read more

It had a really comfortable bed, fridge, and a wood fireplace (came with free logs and matches). The pool was nicely heated even after dark.
