I had to make a return from a purchase I bought online and we were around the Boston area so I figured to stop by here and get my jacket exchanged. I also did a return with the jackets i have in hand. It was around the holidays so the store was pretty packed, since its also a smaller store, the area got pretty crowded pretty quick. I came to this North Face location to return a pair of hiking shoes that ended up not fitting me very well. Unbeknownst to me, the location where I initially bought the shoes was actually a third party retailer (named Cadillac's The North Face) and not an official North Face store. I came in with the shoes and the receipt which I thought would be enough for a return. A store manager was called to help me since the cashier didn't really know if they could accept my return. The store manager was incredibly rude and short with me. He insinuated that I had a fraudulent receipt, saying "I don't know where you got this receipt from but there's no record of your purchase. This is NOT a real receipt that I can accept." He stated that because my receipt didn't resemble their store's with a QR code, that there was no evidence that I bought my shoes from North Face. I told him I bought it from a location in Bar Harbor, Maine and showed him my receipt yet again (pictured below). He further doubled down by saying that he didn't believe me because he "called that location's store manager and they are not even open after 8 pm" since my receipt was from 8:22 pm. He said I could call the store where I purchased my shoes from but that he couldn't accept my receipt and doubted that I could get a legitimate receipt that he could accept. I later called the store I bought my shoes from and the store attendant was super helpful explaining that it was misleading since their store was technically an authorized retailer, I'd have to return them there and allowed me to ship my shoes back. I was extremely put off by how rude this location's manager was as he immediately assumed I had a fraudulent receipt and claimed that he already called the "North Face store manager" of the location I bought my shoes from and that their store "wasn't open after 8 pm." How could that be possible when apparently the Bar Harbor Cadillac's isn't even an official North Face store AND I clearly bought the shoes at 8:22 pm. Not only did he wrongly accuse me of faking my receipt, but he also lied about contacting a colleague when said colleague did not exist since they weren't even a North Face store. read more

" College Days @ North face" The staff are young college kids for the most part . They talk among themselves, like the cool kids club in high school , lol . Only they are getting paid . They are not interested in helping customers, unfortunately. I was looking for a black warm north face jacket for my birthday gift, from my husband. The jacket was around $450.00 and these college kids are not helpful . We looked around couldn't find my size in the style I wanted . We hunted down a college kid to help us but it was not easy and they seemed like they didn't want to be bothered . I did not like that since we were going to spend hard earned monies . The store is messy upstairs and cramped . Downstairs a bit better . Not that big of a selection or of sizes . Parking is very difficult on busy Newbury Street , as well . I bought a black north face hat . However they didn't have the jacket I wanted in my size , unfortunately. When we walked out another staff member greeted us. All in all I expected more selection and a more helpful staff for the cost of buying in this store . read more

I purchased a pair of NorthFace mens trail shoes with gore-tex over a year ago. I did not use them for a long time, but then recently used them for casual wear only. The soles are in excellent condition, however, the seams are separating on the uppers where the fabric meets the rubber. I called North Face customer service and they transferred me to the warranty department. Since the shoes are out of the one-year warranty, they said that they could not help me in any way. I commented that it seems that North Face apparently has no interest in quality. Still no offer to help. I will never recommend or purchase North Face products. Called three times to see if they had a jacket that I could head over and buy if they had my size. Problem was nobody picks up the phone. It goes to voicemail and says their hours and then hangs up on you. It's 2:30pm on a rainy Tuesday in the city and I don't see any special event going on there today. Guess I'll just chose a different brand that picks up their phone and go to their store and give them my money. Way to go customer service! read more

The Boston store is a nightmare and very dark. I buy this product for family mambers but have no high expectations. It started out as an outdoor goods company and is now owned by venture capitalists who know nothing about the outdoors and only look at profits. I want to inform your company of about a pair of your boots I purchased at the Newbury St. Boston,MA store. I paid over $145.00 for the boots,and they literally came apart at the seams. What can you do about it. I never expected a product from your company, to be not of good quality. So when I had bought them I threw away the receipt, and packaging. Compared to other North Face stores this one probably has the least products and you have to walk up flights of stairs to get it. Newbury street is a great location and the store is nicely setup but there just isn't a lot in there to look at/purchase. Would I go there again? Nah. I'd rather go to Burlington or just shop online. read more

I love The North Face, but I'd avoid coming here unless you absolutely need to (for returns, trying to figure out your size, etc). The store's layout really sucks and I found myself having to say "excuse me" every other second. It's not because people are rudely standing in the middle of the aisle or anything, there's just way too much merchandise put out. Cramped, tight spaces wear me out quite quickly. From my experience, the sizing at The North Face is really consistent. If you find you're an S in one of their slim jackets, chances are you are an S for every slim jacket, which makes it super easy to just shop online once you've tried on a few items and get a feel for your size. What was really creepy was the fact that when I looked up, there were two employees casually leaning against the railings and staring down at everyone on the bottom floor. Either they like looking down girl's shirts (bottom floor is all women's clothing), they're not doing their job, they think the customers might steal something, or all of the above. Either way, it was really weird. There was basically one guy at the bottom floor helping 5+ girls back to back and then these two perverts upstairs just chilling. *shrugs* read more

I've been a frequent flyer here for over a decade. My recent visit was fast and streamlined. Avery was very kind and attentive over the phone, and I was fortuitous enough to secure women's Yukonia boots for Christmas. The boots, like everything at the The North Face, are of unparalleled quality. I like to white color, it's a feminine finish and a great look for winter. I was gonna put buying off a winter jacket but... DAMN HURRICANE IRENE IS ABOUT TO PAVE WAY TO DESTRUCTION!!!. ok not really. Im not really tripping about it but i figured this would be a good time to buy a good jacket that has a waterproof shell on the outside. This is the second time I walked into the store and pulled the trigger on a jacket that I was trying on the other week. It was one of those tri-climate jackets that has 2 layers. Ended up being around $233 even though the price tag was $230. What kind of tax is that? In cali its almost 10% haha. w/e, i was going to complain. Favorite store on newbury. When I need any outdoor wear or casual clothing, this is my first stop!

Obviously these wizards of clothier technology put out a solid product. Every single person has or wants a North Face jacket. Every. Single. Person. So on a Back Bay stroll with Jocelyn C, we stopped in the Newbury store to snoop around the mid-winter inventory and see what based all the buzz. And the answer is... They were sold out. Of what you ask? The Plasma Thermal winter jacket. The associate's answer to the question: "What is the one product I should buy that will sell me on the North Face brand and cause me to go all Apple-gaga brand loyal?" He answered, spoke of its minimal bulk, maximum waterproof warmth, then proceeded to announce they had none. Quite the c-tease, buddy. I then proceeded to consult the webz of inter and found out this wunderjakkit cost $300, obviously because it warms the wearer with orphan tears, virgin centaur blood and a trillion dwarf stars that went nova and were subsequently space-vacuumed to North Face's production facilities in beautiful San Leandro, C-A. Hey, at least the Sigg bottles with their logo on it will run ya an extra $10. I feel icky. The store is split-level with mens and camping up, ladies and shoes down. Didn't know that and spent half my mirror time deciding between a mauve quarter zip pullover fleece or its teal cousin. Same thing, softer palate. Sales staff were proficient at stocking and the music was just vanilla enough. Someday when I win a frivolous lawsuit against Shaw's for slipping in a puddle near the produce section, I'll gladly invest in a Plasma Thermal winter jacket. Until then, I may just wait until a lucky bum keels over and snag his. Or hers. Free + $20 dry cleaning = juuuuust right. read more

Although it seems we just got finished with an LA summer, I found myself getting Princess ready for a Boston winter. The North Face has some staff that are more knowledgeable than others. You just have to find the right one. Don't have to tell you about the reputation and quality of The North Face products. A bit pricier than competitors (Columbia, etc.), but more reasonable and appropriate than designers (Burberry, Coach). Princess liked the Burberry snow boots, but a visit to The North Face made her forget about those in a hurry. Everything you need for a trip to Everest or just surviving your first East Coast winter. read more

My relationship with North face started where Tommy Bahama ended. A simple purchase as cargo shorts can become an instant dilemma. Either they are $29 and built for a season or a wash(whichever comes first) or you have to fork over a ton of dough in the Prudential mall. I'm admittedly addicted to North Face, and as such, having a North Face Store is, for me, right up there with having frozen yogurt and chocolate chip pancakes delivered at any hour. Unbelievable, but tread with caution, because it's an expensive (or fattening in the yogurt/pancakes case) habit. The merchandise is what you'd expect from a North Face Store. Jackets, fitness clothing, shoes, skiwear; anything to outfit the most active person to the person who just likes to wear stuff that says North Face on it. So why the five stars? The service is faaaantastic. I have ridiculously small hands (but large thumbs) and normally, gloves do not fit me at all. I tried on the small and extra small adult sized gloves and was about to cave and buy the extra small adult ones when the salesperson refused to ring me up. She noticed that they still didn't fit right, and with a $35 price tag, she didn't want me to regret my purchase. She showed me where the child sized ones were located, but the womens gloves only came in ridiculous colors like pastel pink and pastel blue. I expressed my distaste and she found me a pair of plain black child sized gloves! And they fit! Only later did I realize that she went and got me boys' gloves.... but I'm glad she did. Had she told me, I may have not wanted to get them. But they fit, and they fit perfectly, and I was happy. I then proceeded to lose them in the cab on the way home. I returned the next day and she remembered me. I told her I had lost the gloves already and gave her full permission to laugh at me. She handed me another boys' pair and off I went. No questions asked. I returned many times since to get outfitted in a winter jacket and some activewear and each time I was treated with impeccable service and everyone was extremely knowledgeable; not just seeking a quick sale. I just wish I had more disposable income. I would probably live there. read more

North Face is known for its warms and quality. Boston is known for horrible streets/roads and wet wet wet dirty roads. So, Anya needed some waterproof boots. I did my research online and when I was going to the store, I already had a boot in mind. The sales person was very polite and helpful, and even said that I made the right choice, however they didn't have the boot in my size, and even a .5 size up. I ended up buying the boots anyway, and I wear them with thick socks which helps in this weather, but they are a whole size bigger and my feet look big. Considering its Boston, middle of the winter and all I am taking a star off for poor business/store stacking middle management desision. The boots are warm thought. read more

Being the trendy, poser urban kid I am, I loved North Face when I came to New England. They had warm clothes (good luck finding that in California), and they made you look awesome. Four years later, I have a bit more perspective on the whole outdoors/really cold thing, and North Face lost a little luster but it's still a solid store. 1) Great quality stuff. Even people who hate North Face will grudgingly admit that their stuff is well made and probably over engineered. 2) Decent service. The people in this store are always eager to help even if they're not quite as friendly as the Patagonia people down the street on average. 3) Overpriced. Don't ever bother buying their stuff at full retail because you can always find great deals on-line or during their semi-annual sales. Unless you have to be super fashionable in a snowstorm tomorrow. read more

I became a North Face addict once I got out of college and started to build up some disposible income. I must say I'm not into a lot of clothing brands where the name is plastered on the front of every product sold, but this is one of my exceptions. The main reasons are quality and the warranty that comes with anything you buy there. They're really good about fixing or replacing items that were legitimately damaged when they should've held up. We're also lucky to have a store in Boston ... but I gave North Face 4 stars because the staff at the store is not very helpful. They're welcoming and friendly, but they really don't give much insight into which jackets to choose. There's so many you wonder why a $325 "Summit Series" jacket is $100 more than a "Windstopper" that looks/feels the same. The store also closes pretty early on weeknights (7pm). In the end I'd pay a little more for North Face than EMS, REI and others. It's definitely the quality that matters! read more

So I too am a TNF A (The north face addict)...I own their winter coat, socks, backpack and always on the lookout for a new north face addition to my closet. This store is a decent size and fully stocked but there seems to be almost no sales ever. And even with sales- its just 20-30% off max. Well, I suppose a 200 dollar jacket down to 170 is a semi saving. Heck though, I'm thinking like an insane sale 200 down to 100! (ok so one can dream.) I, like many others who have posted before me, am a huge North Face fan. Oddly, however, I had never been in the Boston location, and so I went in the other day looking for a light rain jacket. Not only did I end up coming out with a gorgeous (yet still functional) rain jacket, but I was also pleasantly surprised by the excellent customer service. The woman who helped me find the jacket was very helpful and told me that if I needed anything, just call her and she'd come right over (which she did). The lady at the check out counter was equally nice and complimented me on my choice of jacket (which, I suppose, is part of her job...But hey! It's always nice to be complimented!) This may seem like it's not a big deal, but since it's, well, "The North Face," and since it is situated on Newbury Street, you probably wouldn't expect good customer service to result from this combination. But, like I said, I was pleasantly surprised and will be returning to this location for all my future North Face needs! read more

Ellyn was amazing, and she deserves 5 stars. My boyfriend and I were new to the city and needed some winter gear. She informed us about everything there is to know about the cold winter in Boston. She didn't rush us in making our decisions and was very knowledgable about all of the gear in the store. Even though we were at the store for about an hour, she was patient and provided excellent service. She even gave us tips on how to survive during the winter. I highly recommend her to anyone who has any questions related to the cold winter here in Boston. The items here sell out quickly so we will be back to pick up some more gear. Plus, this weekend was tax free weekend, and they have a 10% off student discount. My boyfriend and I were glad to have Ellyn help us today. :)) We are prepared for the winter!! The employees were having a conversation when we walked in and didn't really stop to greet us but eventually as we walked around and asked questions, they were helpful. They had a great selection of North Face products but I wish they had a sale section of some sort since it's a bit expensive. My overall experience was great and that is why I give this store a 4-star rating and I hope the customer service is a little better when I walk in next time. read more

Bad customer service, staff does not take care of customers. I went to exchange a jacket for a larger size. I came in, and I asked for assistance, a girl told me check on the back. They never asked what I was looking for or why I wanted to exchange. They are not friendly with customers, and spent time chatting. I decided to return it better, and got to other store. Terrible customer service. Employee was dismissive when I asked if a particular jacket was in stock or if I should purchase it online. Didn't assist or offer to show me an alternative style. When I asked for an alternative style that would be available in stores, I was met with a blank stare. Employee then walked away. Signed up for Yelp just to write this review. This afternoon I went to make a simple exchange - was told the item I was returning was worth $44 less than I thought. I only had a gift receipt so I gave up without much argument. After a conversation with the gift giver, I realized I was right. We both made the long trek back to the store to prove that we had been shorted $44. After a review, the assistant store manager finally agreed with us. He offered to give me 10% off my purchase "for our trouble," acting like it was an especially generous offer. This is ridiculous. How many people have lost money because The North Face can't process a simple return? And then when you're caught, you offer me 10%??? You just tried to short me over 40 dollars, and you have the face to act like you're doing a favor by giving me a 10% coupon I could get for filling out your online survey??? They wasted 2 hours of my time, and I never even got a real apology. Do yourself a favor - go to the Patagonia store next door to get real customer service. I wasn't going to write a review. I mean, it's North Face. Stuff is expensive. But when I encounter great customer service, I gotta say something about it! An employee informed me that they offer a 10% discount for students who show their college I.D. "Aw, shucks," I said. "I'm a grad student at Lesley, but I was never issued an I.D. (Why? Beats me.). But I can show you my student email account on my phone!" "No worries! I'll just give it to ya," she responded. So I got ten bucks off my purchase. She could've easily just shrugged her shoulders and apologized that she couldn't do anything for me. It's the little things, you know? Afterthought - did I really just say "aw, shucks?" Best customer relations Ive encountered in a long time. I recently received a $100 gift card from my girlfriends parents for Christmas and i generally don't shop at TNF but I figured I would go visit the Newbury St store. When I was ready to check out my total came to $105 and I went to swipe the gift card and it was declined, apparently whoever had rang up the card (in Illinois) forgot to validate the card and now I was stuck until I could prove that the card was valid. Well thanks to the great/terrific staff there, they took the card and then took all the info and gave me the product and said that this isn't my problem it is the other stores. Needless to say I feel that they handled this in such a professional manor and will definitely continue to shop here solely on the the customer service I received and their ability to reach above and beyond on customer satisfaction. read more

At this point North Face jackets have become more of a winter uniform than fashionable apparel. I got a jacket there but opted to return it for a different style of coat. The staff was really friendly and made the whole process easy. I decided to return it mostly because I was afraid that I would have the same jacket as half of Boston. I would be hesitant to buy directly from North Face when you can find the same product at your favorite online or department store. I recently bought an XXL Morpho Jacket for my husbands Valentines day present. It was too large so I sent it back with the bag and label North Face supplied. There was not an option to exchange on the return form so I got online and ordered an XL trusting North Face would refund the other jacket. After several email exchanges North Face is refusing to refund the returned jacket claiming they never got it even though they acknowledge I bought another coat in a smaller size. I shop alot online and have never encountered such a "dont care, too bad" attitude. Its a shame, such good products, such lousy directors. read more
