We ate here a few years ago and had a good experience, but I assume either management or the chef has changed since our recent time spent at The Notch Grille was a poor experience. I am doing this review to help other travelers and hopefully the restaurant makes some improvements. Service: Expect to wait at least 5-10 minutes to get seated on the restaurant side. Expect more to get a server on the lounge side. Don't expect coffee refills or anyone to come over to ask how your meal is and if you want another drink. Food: Oh boy. Where do I even begin? The Caesar salad was served on a small plate making it hard to mix up the salad without it spilling all over the table. The croutons were hard as a rock, couldn't eat them as I was afraid I would crack a tooth. Asked for grilled shrimp cooked well. Barely cooked. Flatbread pizza...it was OK, but the bread was not cooked at all so really doughy and hard to handle. Naan bread can be toasted, doesn't need to be uncooked. French fries: both regular and truffle....both were served basically raw. Looked cooked on outside, but inside was literally raw potato. Insane. Eggs: I believe they are liquid egg and not real cracked eggs. Get friend not scrambled if you want actual fresh eggs. Home fries: they were also raw. I don't think they know how to cook potatoes? Squash special: the actual squash was raw and hard as a rock. Was it meant to be a decorative element only and the goat cheese was the only thing people are meant to eat? Why call it a special if you can't eat the squash? I ordered pancakes thinking that was safe. I am not joking when I say that I had RAW batter in my pancake. How can you serve pancakes not fully cooked? My partner's order had this weird taste to it, like his were cooked on a really dirty grill. there was this weird after taste. How can you ruin pancakes? Well, this place did. I over heard others at the restaurant complain about the duck salad and that their order was wrong. I saw people getting the wrong dishes as well. And people brought in coffee and tea from the free area into the dining area because they knew it would take at least 10 minutes to be waited on after being sat, so they came prepared with their own beverages. There's just not enough staff. You have one person setting up a conference room who is also being the hostess/host trying to sit people, but people end up sitting themselves since they stand there for 15 mins waiting to be seated. It's really a hot mess. The Notch Grille is not a spot I would suggest eating at. It has a great view, so my suggestion is to have a cocktail at the bar and that's it. It's really too bad because I will never stay at the Glen House Inn again purely because of how bad the restaurant is. They could have something great here, but the food is really bad. I hope this review helps fellow travelers out and that the Glen House Inn steps it up, as this restaurant is making the hotel lose business. read more

This place is amazing from the scenery to the food! I loved sitting out back by the fire pit with a cocktail and I enjoyed dinner on the porch here! The service is great as well! It's the perfect spot to come to after you hike Mt Washington. read more

I've only have a few things from the starter menu. I'm staying at the hotel so the first night I tried the ricotta toast with mushrooms. Sooo good and a nice sized portion. The next night I tried the brussels sprouts which were excellent and also a large size. I'm a vegetarian and didn't realize there was bacon pieces in there though. I also had a Caesar salad which was fine ... nothing outstanding. My husband had an order of fries which were good but I found them a bit salty. We never had any meals here because as I said, I'm a vegetarian and either nothing grabbed me or it was just too expensive. The menu is quite small which on the one hand I like. I feel ingredients are likely to be fresher and the kitchen is likely to do things right if they don't have 20different things on the menu but on the other hand, choices are limiting for anyone on a special diet. read more

Prime example of the "captive audience" effect. But kind of interesting, actually, not only is it high prices for bad food, it actually seems like they're putting a fair amount of effort to make this food bad. They have this flatbread that not only has pears, but also is doused in maple syrup. Ostensibly this is some attempt at the sweet+savory craze (who actually likes hot honey?) but what it tastes like is the stuff you throw out at the end of breakfast. They also have kids meals that are portioned like it's a tapas place. Like, come on, it's butter and pasta and kids aren't going to critique the plating. The view was the best thing this place had going for it, but you can't even dine on the patio to enjoy it. Service was bad but you can't blame Laura as we quickly noticed she was the only server taking care of several tables. Others in my group had the burger and chicken sandwich that looked fine, but my avocado toast was terrible. Brown avocados, poached eggs were basically hard boiled, no runny yolk. Really a 1.5 because, the food was mid and the service was very bad because we got there and ordered and it took 1 hour for us to get our food when there was us and one other person. I really liked the food (and service and views) here, as did my partner. We got the cheese curds for an appetizer, and they were fresh and squeaky! Food quality has suffered terribly. I stay at the Glen house with my grand kids a couple times per year. 2021, food was very very good. 2023? Awful!! They changed their menu but the quality of the food, seasoning, and overall taste is bad while they charge premium prices. I wouldn't recommend eating here aside from breakfast. One of the best crab cake I ever have. The food is well prepared. Due to heavy lunch, we decided to have light dinner. We also ordered short-rib taco and pretzel, both are good. Short rib meal is petty good too. We like the environment which is decorated about this historic glen house. We really appreciate this place which is like the cross road of history and now. Staying at the Glen House we tried the Notch for dinner and breakfast. Dinner was good we had the baked Halibut which was very tasty. The burger was overcooked but edible. We also had the. Vegetarian tacos which were very tasty. A few choices for the vegetarian crowd which is great. Breakfast was just ok not super impressed with the omelet, oat meal or pancakes. Stayed at the Glen House Hotel and decided to eat at their restaurant and enjoy the view. We ate in the bar area and ordered Lobster Mac N Cheese and Fish and Chips. The Lobster Mac was amazing! Very creamy and a lot of lobster. Fish and chips were great, good batter and not greasy. The fish was fresh and plentiful. Loved it here when we stayed for a long weekend at the Glen House. We made reservations and ate there for 3 dinners. Kids menu is great too!

Beyond the view this place is just great. Staff are attentive and friendly. We had fabulous soft pretzel sticks with the best dipping cheese I've ever had. Small but varied beer selection and very good cocktails. Highly recommend. read more

The hotel is absolutely lovely, but the restaurant falls significantly short. The crabcake tastes and smells like something between canned tuna and canned crab. I ordered fried chicken and was ridiculously disappointed when I found out it was a limp, dried out, boneless chicken breast. That's not fried chicken. If you're going to use a split, boneless chicken breast, call it a chicken tender. I've had better fried chicken in a drive-through. Have you got the short ribs, and it was three tiny little nuggets and meat in a lot of brown gravy. The one saving grace to the entire meal was the short rib taco. It had a good flavor, the meat was moist and it was tasty. I get that they're out here all alone and they really don't have any competition, but it doesn't make it okay to serve sub-mediocre food and charge for something that should be much better. Super sad and disappointed. We won't be eating here again. read more

We stayed at the Glen House hotel for two nights and enjoyed a number of meals at the Notch Grille. There was never a wait to be seated, but the food usually took a little while to come out. We didn't mind because we enjoyed good conversation and the gorgeous view as we waited for our food. Everything we ordered was delicious! We can't wait to come back in the fall. read more

Came in late on Saturday night, checked in to hotel and the kitchen was open for another 20 minutes. Per the bartenders recommendations, put in our order and enjoyed our late dinner. The bacon on the scallops could have been crisper, but we were the last order for the night, so appreciated that the kitchen put out decent meals! The next morning, our breakfast was delicious and the coffee was great! After a 5 hour hike, came back for lunch and my husband's burger was amazing. My caprese chicken sandwich was tasty, though the chicken breast was a little dry. Great service and amazing views! read more

I wish I could give 5 stars... Great hotel & restaurant with a phenomenal view. Service and food was great as well... unfortunately we felt disrespected from Janay at the front desk who neglected to acknowledge a reservation made even with an email confirmation in hand. She also tried to tell us we called and canceled which we absolutely did not. Considering it was an 8:45pm reservation we were upset with limited options to dine elsewhere. Ultimately, we were allowed to dine, but it was too bad we were disrespected with zero sympathy even with acknowledging covid circumstances. read more
